• Should accessible members of an internal class be internal too?

  I'm designing a set of APIs for some applications I'm working on. I want to keep the code style consistent in all the classes I write but I've found that there are a few inconsistencies that I'm introducing and I don't know what the best way to resolve them is. My example here is specific to C# but this would apply to any language with similar mechanisms. There are a few classes that I need for implementation purposes that I don't necessarily want to expose in the API so I make them internal whereever needed. Generally what I would do is design the class as I normally would (e.g., make members public/protected/private where necessary) and change the visibility level of the class itself to internal. So I might have a few classes that look like this: internal interface IMyItem { ItemSet AddTo(ItemSet set); } internal class _SmallItem : IMyItem { private readonly /* parameters */; public _SmallItem(/* small item parameters */) { /* ... */ } public ItemSet AddTo(ItemSet set) { /* ... */ } } internal abstract class _CompositeItem: IMyItem { private readonly /* parameters */; public _CompositeItem(/* composite item parameters */) { /* ... */ } public abstract object UsefulInformation { get; } protected void HelperMethod(/* parameters */) { /* ... */ } } internal class _BigItem : _CompositeItem { private readonly /* parameters */; public _BigItem(/* big item parameters */) { /* ... */ } public override object UsefulInformation { get { /* ... */ } } public ItemSet AddTo(ItemSet set) { /* ... */ } } In another generated class (part of a parser/scanner), there is a structure that contains fields for all possible values it can represent. I just don't like the idea that the way I write my classes has to change drastically (i.e., change all uses of public to internal) just because the class is internal. Any thoughts on what I should do here? It makes sense to me that I might want to make some members of a class declared public, internal. But it's less clear to me when the class is declared internal.

• I have this broken php upload script

  I have this script for uploading a image and content from a form, it works in one project but not the other. I have spent a good few hours trying to debug it, I am hoping someone could point out the issue I might be having. Where there are comments is where I have tried to debug. The first error I got was the "echo invalid file" at the beginning of the last comment. With these specific areas commented out the upload name and type that I am supposed to be grabbing from the form is not being echoed, I am thinking this is where the error is occurring, but can't quite seem to find it. So in summary, my question is: How earth can I go about making a template/extension to porting this functionality? I have tried before with templates but always gave up after a day :/ If you could take the time to port the above I would greatly appreciate it.

• Elegant way for a recursive C++ template to do something different with the leaf class?

  I have a C++ class template that makes an Array of pointers. This also gets typedefed to make Arrays of Arrays and so on: typedef Array<Elem> ElemArray; typedef Array<ElemArray> ElemArrayArray; typedef Array<ElemArrayArray> ElemArrayArrayArray; I would like to be able to set one leaf node from another by copying the pointer so they both refer to the same Elem. But I also want to be able to set one Array (or Array of Arrays etc) from another. In this case I don't want to copy the pointers, I want to keep the arrays seperate and descend into each one until I get to the leaf node, at where I finally copy the pointers. I have code that does this (below). When you set something in an Array it calls a CopyIn method to do the copying. But because this is templated it also has to call the CopyIn method on the leaf class, which means I have to add a dummy method to every leaf class that just returns false. I have also tried adding a flag to the template to tell it whether it contains Arrays or not, and so whether to call the CopyIn method. This works fine - the CopyIn method of the leaf nodes never gets called, but it still has to be there for the compile to work!   This is really confusing and I have never had this occur. For my computer, it is fine. But for anyone else's computer I have tried, it screws up. So on my site, designatease.com , the second bar down, it places the fifth item down below the first four. I am not sure why it is doing this. • z index background issue in IE

  I have a jQuery tools scroller set up with controls managing two separate divs of info - one images, the other related text that needs to sit over the top of the images with a transparent bg image. I am using z-indexing to achieve this and am aware of IE's issues with this but am unable to sort it (tested in IE6-8). We have a binary data file which has following data structure: (It is a 12 byte structure): I need to find out Epoch time value(total time value is packed in 42 bits as described below): Field-1 : Byte 1, Byte 2, + 6 Bits from Byte 3 Time-1 : 2 Bits from Byte 3 + Byte 4 Time-2 : Byte 5, Byte 6, Byte 7, Byte 8 Field-2 : Byte 9, Byte 10, Byte 11, Byte 12 For Field-1 and Field-2 I do not have issue as they can be taken out easily. I need time value in Epoch Time (long) as it has been packed in Bytes 5,6,7,8 and 3 and 4 as follows: (the bit structure for the time value is as follows): Bytes 5 to 8 (32 bit word) Packs time value bits from 0 thru 31 (byte 5 has 0 to 7 bits, byte 6 has 8 to 15, byte 7 has 16 to 23, byte 8 has 24 to 31). the remaining 10 bits of time value are packed in Bytes 3 and byte 4 as follows: byte 3 has 2 bits:32 and 33, and Byte 4 has remaining bits : 34 to 41. So total bits for time value is 42 bits, packed as above. I need to compute epoch value coming out of these 42 bits. How do I do it?   How to get the current time in milliseconds? I'm working on a hacking simulation game and when ever someone connects to another computer/NPC, a login screen popups with a button on the side called BruteForce. When BruteForce is clicked, what i want the program to do is, calculate how many seconds cracking the password is going to take based on the player's CPU speed but that's the easy part. The hard part is i want to enter a character in the password's box every X milliseconds based on a TimeToCrack divided by PasswordLength formula. But since i don't know how to find how many milliseconds have elapsed since the second has passed, the program waits until the CurrentTime is higher than the TimeBeforeTheLoopStarted + HowLongItTakesToTypeaCharacter which is always going to be a second. How would you handle my problems?   I've looked everywhere (Google, here, a bunch of other sites), and while I have found people with similar problems, I couldn't find a single one with a solution to this. Last night our xenserver 5.6 box corrupted the /var/xapi/state.db, and I couldn't fix the xml, no matter what I did. After a good hour fiddling with the file, I figured it would be faster to just reinstall. The server had one 2tb hard drive running Xen and its VMs, and since Xen's install said it would erase the hard drive it was installed on, I plugged a new harddrive and installed Xen on it, without selecting any hard drives for storage. I Figured I could make it happen after install, using the partition on the old harddrive with all my VMs on it. Any domain account that logs on to my 2008 machine gets a +- 20 second waiting time on "user profile service" I am using roaming profiles, they are around 8mb in size, and most folders are already redirected to a network share. event log registers no errors, there is more than 1 network card installed, but I have the correct card listed as "primary" Is there any way to increase verbosity of logging on specifically the "user profile service" ? Then suddenly the tmp directory grew up to 6.1G. The space was taken by jar files inside vfs-nested.tmp. I found https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBAS-7126 but adding that config but it made no difference.

  Is there any way to change the default mouse cursor on OSX Mavericks? More precisely, I'd like to make it look like in windows, and even more precisely I want to move the 'point' where the mouse cursor actually 'clicks' - on windows it's on the very end of the arrow, even outside of it, and on mac it's a little inside the arrow. I've done some research, and all the websites either tell me to get Mighty Mouse, which doesn't work on my system, and other's tell me how to change the size of my cursor.
