  Recently, on most Microsoft sites, I started to see a bar at the top of every page with a hyper-link indicating "Internet Explorer 8 - faster, safer, easier". I can understand that Microsoft shows this in browsers other than IE8. But: this also appears in IE8 itself. Why? --jeroen

• How do you use 4GB of RAM?

  I have a Quad Core Intel PC with 4GB of RAM - I've been using it over a year to run web server stress tests (ab.exe -n 5000 -c 500), encode HD video, play games, open hundreds of tabs in multiple browsers (simultaneously), worked on multi-layered +8000px art in photoshop and just about every other thing you can think of. As of yet I've never passed 2.3GB of RAM usage. How in the world do you use all 4GB? Is there any use for it?

• Microsoft Word files have weird icons suddenly?

  All of a sudden, my Microsoft Office files have the generic file icon, and it happens with Powerpoint and Word, but not Excel. I can open the files just fine, and I tried restarting my computer, creating new files, clicking F5 on the desktop, turning off my Windows XP theme patcher, and none of them worked, any ideas? EDIT: I've also noticed that it happened to the following programs: Windows Live Messenger, iTunes, and Skype, so not just MS Office. Yet, some are still fine like IE, Paint, GIMP, Paint.NET, a few web browsers, etc.

• Privoxy-like proxy that handles multiple parallel connections?

  Hello I use Privoxy on my XP host to filter/rewrite web pages, but it's slower because all connections go through Privoxy's single port. According to this post on StackOverflow, by default, browsers support more than one simultaneous connection, which would explain why going through Privoxy is slower. Does someone know of a similar application that could handle more than one connection? Thank you.

• Google Groups layout problem

  I have this strange problem when browsing Google Groups. The sidebar, the one displaying the various menu options, like Home, Discussions, Pages, is rendered on the left side of the page on top of the group discussions space. Below is a snapshot taken from FireFox (version 3.5.2). I have experienced the same problems with other browsers several times as well, but FireFox is my main browser and it is really broken there.

  In web browsers you can drag the tabs to change the order. But I can't do that in Foxit Reader (version 3.1.4.1125, using Windows Vista Home, Chinese Traditional) Example: I open 3 files: Page2.pdf Page3.pdf Page1.pdf which opens Foxit Reader with a tab for each file, in the order Page2.pdf Page3.pdf Page1.pdf Is there a way to change the order of the tabs to Page1.pdf Page2.pdf Page3.pdf ? • Can't remember the website for downloading common tools after reinstall

  I remember a while back finding a website for downloading lots of common tools in one go after a system reinstall. It had a dark background and checkboxes for selecting the tools (browsers, editors, readers, im clients, etc.). After selecting the tools it downloaded a file which went away, downloaded everything you'd selected and then performed an install on each of the different apps. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

Unfortunately, my host (Host Gator) does not support Mod_Gzip or Mod_Deflate. I was able to enable php compression through the ini file.   I have got a following problem: Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) function in Excel 2010 does not work (or acts weirdly) is I have Google Chrome opened at the same time. This issue is Excel-specific meaning that in Word or Powerpoint copy/paste works fine. It is also Chrome- and CoolNovo-specific as the copy/paste in Excel does not interfere with other internet browsers. Any suggestions? Cheers, Dan

It looks like Google Bookmarks has some wonderful features, but it doesn't let people import their existing bookmarks from their browsers be it Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer.
