• Can I make query strings produce separate pages?

  I have a profile page with a URL like so: localhost/profile.php/?username=Bob I was wondering, if I had a separate <title> which changed according to the username, would they produce separate pages in the google search results? How do I tell Google to only use the username string or does it search within the title? On a similar note, how would I create a separate page with the username like so: localhost/bob instead of a query string like facebook does. Do that make a new file for each user?

• Parse text file on click and display

  I am thinking of a methodology for rapid retrieval of code snippets. I imagine an HTML table with a setup like this: one two ... ten one oneTwo() oneTen() two twoOne() twoTen() ... ten tenOne() tenTwo() When a user clicks a function in this HTML table, a snippet of code is shown in another div tag or perhaps a popup window (I'm open to different solutions). I want to maintain only one PHP file named utitlities.php that contains a class called 'util'. This file & class will hold all the functions referenced in the above table (it is also used on various projects and is functional code). A key idea is that I do not want to update the HTML documentation everytime I write/update a new function in utilities.php. I should be able to click a function in the table and have PHP open the utilities file, parse out the apropriate function and display it in an HTML window. Questions: 1) I will be coding this in PHP and JavaScript but am wondering if similar scripts are available (for all or part) so I don't reinvent the wheel. 2) Quick & easy Ajax suggestions appreciated too (probably will use jquery, but am rusty). 3) Methodology for parsing out the functions from the utilities.php file (I'm not to good with regex).

• 80,000 hits on irrelevant topic in 1-2 days [closed]

  On 3rd of Nov 2012 somebody started this thread : http://forums.hostgator.com/advice-needed-new-account-t214566.html?t=214566 subject "Advice needed on new account". I visited it on 5th and when I saw the total views I was stunned to see figure of 80,000( while other threads were having views from 50-300). I even made a post using name of rag_gupta. Then I simply typed in Google in IE (I work on Firefox) : Advice needed on new account ---- and yes this same page was in no#1 position. Subsequently I tried to create similar wording article in Hubpages to see how it'd fare. Unfortunately it was not allowed to be published. Then I published in blogger.com. But hardly any hits. Considering only the first two posts in the thread what could have driven google to rank it highly?

  I want to get all lines in a text into one line. I'm a beginner at coding trying to learn by doing. I've spent four hours trying to solve this problem. I know there's a simple solution to this problem. • How to disable mouseover popup icons on launcher?

  If an application is open and its icon is contained in the launcher panel, moving the mouse over the launcher icon will cause a very annoying popup icon to appear, showing a small image of the open application. It is annoying because it lingers too long and covers other information. For example, it covers the menus that appear when I right-click on a launcher panel icon. How do I disable these mouseover popups? I don't necessarily want to disable the "text" mouseover popup, I only want to disable the image popups. Thanks. Ubuntu 12.04, new install.

• UDK : UTWeap_RocketLauncher gift CreateInventory: Any idea why this does not work properly?

  I am giving the player an instanced class of UTWeap_RocketLauncher in an instance of UTGame. PlayerPawn.CreateInventory(class'FobikRocketLauncher',false); // Does not work PlayerPawn.CreateInventory(class'FobikLinkGun',false); // Works Even if I give the original class (eg. UTWeap_RocketLauncher) it does not actually show up. However if I do a "GiveWeapons" cheat, I get it just fine. It also works if I had code it into the map. - But UTWeap_LinkGun works fine either way. Any ideas? It shows the default ammo amount, and the icon on the HUD.

• chmod 700 and htaccess deny from all enough?

  I would like to protect a public directory from public view. None of the files will ever be viewed online. I chmoded the directory to 700 and created an htaccess file that has "deny from all" inside it. Is this enough security or can a hacker still gain access to the files? I know some people will say that hackers can get into anything, but I just want to make sure that there isn't anything else I can do to make it harder to hack. Reply: I am asking if chmod 700 and deny from all is enough security alone to prevent hackers from getting my files. Thanks.

• Sudo Non-Password access to /sys/power/state

  On my computer, pm-hibernate appears to be broken, however using the command echo disk > /sys/power/state appears to work perfectly. Now I just need regular user access to it, using sudo. How do I do this? The command sudo echo disk > /sys/power/state simply returns bash: /sys/power/state: Permission denied. Also, I need this in a regularly used script, how can I make it so that I don't have to type in my password for it to work???

• point to rectangle distance

  I have a 2D rectangle with x, y position and it's height and width and a randomly positioned point nearby it. Is there a way to check if this point might collide with the rectangle if closer than a certain distance? like imagine an invisible radius outside of that point colliding with said rectangle.   My website has an atypical structure and I'm not sure if this could create problems in the long run, specially for SEO positioning purposes. My question is, do the crawling robots (e.g. Googlebot) recognize these links? Do they index the resulting HTML outputted by index.php with the specified parameters as if it was a actual HTML file? Also, would this become a problem when creating a Sitemap?

• What grammatical tense should I write my specifications in?

  We are currently writing functional and technical specifications in a two column format; summary sentence and technical detail. The details often refer to an appendix with diagrams, layout designs ect. However I am struggling with what tense to write it in: With past tense as if the work is done I struggle to show highlight extensions of exiting work. Future tense as in it needs to do X starts to sound like a to do list or Tense neutral very hard as it has either going to be done or is done. To add further confusion this specification may be read by people who do not have English as a first language.

• Modules already committed, client doesn't pay, what should I do?

  So the story is simple, early stage EU portal hired me to do some extra modules. I got all the source code for local testing, did my job, committed new code. Now I am out of this project but client still haven't paid me yet and he is not even thinking about that. It has been couple of months and no contract was signed so I can't take any legal actions. What should I do with all the source code? Sell it? Run exact copy of that portal? Make all portal publicly available?

• DVC101 Video Capture Device on USB hub - Ubuntu Server 12.04

  I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop I use as a media server/video capture system. It only has 2 USB ports and I have a total of 3 devices I need to connect. The DVC101 works perfectly while plugged directly into the USB port in back of the laptop. Unfortunately it does not get recognized when plugged into a passive or powered USB hub. Questions: Is there something I am missing on the Ubuntu side? Something I need to do that will allow the device to be recognized through the hub? If not, will the extra USB ports on a dell laptop dock (port replicator) act the same as the aftermarket hubs? I know this one is off topic of Ubuntu but any input appreciated.

• Ubuntu 12.10 not properply working on Asus u46E after Update

  I recently installed the latest Ubuntu update on my laptop and since then, the alignment on the browser is messed up, the mouse is not working, and I can't connect to the internet. Before it was working perfectly. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks for any feedback FYI: I am right now using windows since I have both linux and windows on my laptop. Also, when booting I do have the option to boot previous ubuntu versions, when I boot the previous unbuntu version on my laptop, everything works accept except the internet. • Should webmasters "index" dashboard and edit account page

  New here, I did my research and found nothing, but sorry if it has already been asked. As webmasters should be let google and other search engine INDEX our member's dashboard and edit account page. For example my member John has access to a page name "Edit your account" where he can fill some fields and updates his info. Or another pages where John can manage his posts (edit, delete) Such pages have no interest to the other people so should be let google and others INDEX it or should we NOINDEX it ? • Should I extract specific functionality into a function and why?

  I have a large method which does 3 tasks, each of them can be extracted into a separate function. If I'll make an additional functions for each of that tasks, will it make my code better or worse and why? Edit: Obviously, it'll make less lines of code in the main function, but there'll be additional function declarations, so my class will have additional methods, which I believe isn't good, because it'll make the class more complex. Edit2: Should I do that before I wrote all the code or should I leave it until everything is done and then extract functions?

• Avoiding "double" subscriptions

  I am working on a website that requires a bit of marketing; let me explain. This website is offering a single, say, iTunes 50$ voucher to a lucky winner. To be entered in the draw, you need to invite (and has to join) at least one friend to the website. Pretty straightforward. Now, of course it would be easy for anyone to just create a fake account and invite that account so, I was thinking of some other way to somehow find out of possible cheating. I was thinking of an IP check on the newly subscribed (invited) user, and if there is the same IP logged in the last 24 hours, and if that's the case, investigate more about it. But I was thinking that maybe there is a more clever way around this issue. Has anyone ever though about this? What other solutions did you try? Thanks in advance.
