  • How to implement "drag n drop" user interface on website?

    Hello, I was wondering what would be the best way to implement some kind of "drag n drop" user interface? What i mean is that there would be one main page and every link click (eg. other sections like about, gallery, contact form) would open a new drag n drop element on top of that main page. Something like windows desktop where you can move your application windows around the screen. Would it be best to call different functions with AJAX when a link is clicked? Like "gallery" link would call gallery-function and retrieve dynamically generated contents of that "window" with AJAX call and then just load that stuff on some div? Or would some other type of approach suit better for this? I hope I was able to explain this clearly enough. I'm looking for a proper "design pattern" to implement this. All suggestions are wellcome! :)

  • How to access a website's url programmatically from within the page

    For work, I am working on a site that has a feature that lets users make custom instances of the site depending on who they want to show it to. So if they want to show their potential employer a little bit about themselves, they can send them a custom url, that has a uid on the end of it that tells the database what to show and what not to when the site is loaded up. Now, I need to be able to take the value that is on the end of the url, this unique uid that corresponds with their preferences in the db, accessable on run time. Meaning that when someone types in this custom url, I need to be able to show the name of the person whose portfolio is being viewed BEFORE password authentication takes place... If I could get the URL, I suppose I could parse through it to find the necessary UID...but how do I get the url? Maybe I am just missing something here, but if anyone has any thoughts or ideas, it would be appreciated!! Thanks

    Hi, I want to generate a pdf report, where a column(or cell/field) is left blank(empty) on purpose. This column actually does have a value but, I'm choosing not to display it. The column title still needs to be displayed. Example of where this could be useful: Blank(empty) column: A comments or notes column down one side of a report.     Hey, The question is pretty simple, but i'm not the big AJAX/JS coder, so I have no clue if it's possible. Is there any way that I can check whether or not an alert() was executed on a remote site? Like if I inputted an alert("Welcome to this site"); through a get variable, is there any way to check if it that alert() was actually executed in the browser? And not necessarily through AJAX/JS.

    When creating a new Rails application, it is automatically supplied with several quite large js files. In the application layout, by default, all of them are loaded into the page: <%= javascript_include_tag :defaults %> I was wondering, isn't loading all those javascripts can make the site possibly mush slower? And if so, where can I change the definition of :defaults? Or should I just include the ones I need and remove the code line mentioned above? Thank you

    Hello, I'm using (trying to use) jQuery to add a class to the first paragraph of every div with class of ".djBio" My problem is that it's only adding the class to the first div.djBio, not all divs with that class. Here's the code.     I have an embed window media player which is always on top of other DIV tags. I used wmode = opaque; WindowlessVideo = -1 but it does not help.     Simple as that: I have some inputs that are rendered inside another form element, but I want to submit then individually. I tried "serializing" the div that contains them, but it didn't work. Is there an easy way to do this? Originally I was just having it put the variable into a text box and then I was posting that text box. However I dont want to have 5 text boxes.     I have a notifications app that generates notifications for users. The notification class has to be really general, because notifications are generated by all sorts of different things. My question is this: How do I insert links into the text of the notifications? What I tried was this: note = Notification(..., notification="""%s %s has accepted the task: <a href="/tasks/%d/">%s</a>.""" % (request.user.first_name, request.user.last_name, task.id, task.name), ...)     I have a website that will have millions of pages in a directory. I'd like to store those files on-disk in a bunch of subdirectories based on the first characters of the page name.     Hey! I have a Lightbox clone (colorbox), which works fine and has no real issues. What I would like is an extra arguement that would say: [pseudocode] if (linksRel == "lightbox1") { add stylesheet1 to this lightbox } else { add stylesheet2 to this lightbox } [/pseudocode] Currently, I have a page with a "colorbox.css" file attached and the" jquery.colorbox.js" file as well - But I want the JS file to import the required CSS dependant on what link was clicked... Urgh, does that make sense? Does anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped!
