• How to store date into Mysql database with play framework in scala?

• Entering and retrieving data from SQLite for an android List View

  Hi all, I started learning android development a few weeks ago and have gone through the developer.android.com tutorials etc. But now I have a problem. I'm trying to create an app which tracks the usage of each installed app. Therefore I'm pulling the names of all installed apps using the PackageManager and then trying to put them into an SQLite database table. I am using the Notepad Tutorial SQLite implementation but I'm running into some problems that I have tried for days to solve. I have 2 classes, the DBHelper class and the actual ListActivity class. I am taking the appName and putting it into the KEY_NAME field of the row and putting 0 into the KEY_USAGE field of the row (because initially, my app will default the usage of each app to 0 (not used yet)). If my addApp() function doesn't take the usage and just puts KEY_NAME into the ContentValues and into the database, it seems to work fine, but I want a column for usage. • All embedded databases fail to open connections

  Hi, I'm working on a winforms desktop application that needs to store data. I made the really bad decision to try and embed a database. I've tried: SQLite VistaDB SQL Server Compact In each case, I was able to generate a Entity Framework Model over the basic schema I've created. I have an event that adds data that I've been using to test these databases. Well, I kept adding a new record using EF and finding it didn't actually insert a record. In debugging, I checked the context object to see what was happening. It turns out that it is saying "the underlying provider failed to open," or something to that effect. It was not throwing an exception, just not inserting a record. The same thing has happened for all 3 embedded databases--prompting me to get it through my dense head that there has to be something wrong with my configuration. Well, I tried to write some basic sql using a sqlconnection and sqlcommand. This time it throws an exception. In the SQL Server Compact case, it now says: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) I thought perhaps a problem was the path in app.Config. So I changed the connection string to: Note that I simplified the path away from anything that might have spaces and avoided using the Data Directory nonsense that causes problem when the debugging directory does not match the preconfigured value for the data directory. I'm running Windows 7; I thought perhaps it might be an access issue--so I tried running VS 2010 in Administrator mode. No luck. I also installed Sql Server Compact SP2, thinking this might be a bug. No luck. Anyway, I'm ready to pull my hair out. I'm on a tight deadline for this thing and didn't expect to spend the day trying to figure out what is going on.

• Problem inserting JavaScript into a CKEditor Instance running inside a jQuery-UI Dialog Box

  Hello Overflowers! Here's what's going on: I'm building an app (using PHP, jQuery, etc), part of which lets users edit various bits of a web page (Header, Footer, Main Content, Sidebar) using CKEditor. It's set up so that each editable bit has an "Edit Content" button in the upper right that, on click, launches an instance of CKEditor inside a jQuery-UI Dialog box. After the user is done editing, they can click an 'Update Changes' button that passes the edited content back off to the main page and closes the Dialog/CKeditor. It's all working magnificently, save for one thing. If someone inserts any JavaScript code, wrapped in 'script' tags, using either the Insert HTML Plugin for CKEditor or by going to 'Source' in CKEditor and placing the code in the source, everything seems okay until they click the 'Update Changes' button. The JavaScript appears to be inserting properly, but when 'Update Changes' is clicked, instead of the Dialog closing and passing the script back into the div where it belongs, what I get instead is an all-white screen with just the output of the JavaScript. For example, a simple 'Hello World' script results in a white screen with the string 'Hello World' in the upper left corner; for more intricate scripts, like an API call to, say Aweber, that generates a newsletter signup form, I get an all-white screen with the resulting form from the Aweber API call perfectly rendered in the middle of the screen. One of the most confusing parts is that, on these pages, if I click 'View Source', I get absolutely nothing. Blank emptiness. • Dynamic Form Help for PHP and MySQL

  The code below works as far as inserting records from a file into MySQL, but it only does so properly if the columns in the file are already ordered the same way as in the database. I would like for the user to be able to select the drop down the corresponds to each column in their file to match it up with the columns in the database (the database has email address, first name, last name). I am not sure how to accomplish this. I want to do one thing if the tr is clicked and other when this specific td in the tr is clicked. • Is there any "modern" text editor with command-line/minibuffer?

  A command line in a text editor is a wonderful feature. It allows the user to explore the editor's functionality and learn it's shortcuts in a textual way. It's much faster than using the mouse, and it is much easier to memorise "shortcuts" this way. Emacs and VI provide this, though, emacs and vi are not "modern". By "modern", I mean one that is original built to cope with the modern de-facto standards of selecting, copying, pasting, cutting, undoing, redoing and auto-completing. Cream/vi or Emacs/CUA are not valid options, since there are loads of things built over them that conflict with the mentioned stuff. It would be nice if there was an editor that would cope with the modern de-facto standards out-off-the-box, but still provide a command-line/minibuffer to perform/explore the commands and learn its shortcuts. Is there such a thing? I do not intend to use the "modern" term as derrogatory. I love both Emacs and VI, but I hate their keyboard-shortcut historical baggage. When I reffer to de-facto standards, I am not talking about Windows vs Whatever. Kate, gedit, Eclipse, Intelij or Textmate also follow the norm I am talking about and are not Windows editors. Please do not advertise Vim and Emacs, that's not answering the question. I am asking for alternatives. Why don't I like emacs and vi: Emacs: Despite CUA mode, emacs has loads of modes that conflict with this (e.g. slime, ruby-mode, etc...) It would be nice to have something that would work out-off-the-box. VI: I do not like that it is Visual/Insert-based. I do not know how to browse the text-editor's commands. I do not like that it is so much tought for the terminal. I believe that it has the same problem that I mentioned for emacs. This question is starting to look like requirement analysis.. As de-facto standards I mean: Ctrol-XCV for cut-copy-paste Ctrol-A for select-all Contrl-Z for Undo Ctrol-Y for Redo Control-F for Searching Contrl-Space for auto-complete Shift-arrow for selection Control-arrow for word-navigation Alt-Arrow for moving

  I have been trying to execute a MS SQL Server stored procedure via JDBC today and have been unsuccessful thus far. The stored procedure has 1 input and 1 output parameter. With every combination I use when setting up the stored procedure call in code I get an error stating that the stored procedure couldn't be found.   Hi I'm making a website using JSP and servlets and I have to now break up a list of radio buttons to insert a textarea and a button. I have got the button and textarea to hide and show when you click on the radio button it shows the text area and button. But this only appears at the top and when there are hundreds on the page this will become awkward so i need a way for it to appear underneath. • Importing a large delimited file to a MySQL table

  I have this large (and oddly formatted txt file) from the USDA's website. It is the NUT_DATA.txt file. But the problem is that it is almost 27mb! I was successful in importing the a few other smaller files, but my method was using file_get_contents which it makes sense why an error would be thrown if I try to snag 27+ mb of RAM. So how can I import this massive file to my MySQL DB without running into a timeout and RAM issue? I've tried just getting one line at a time from the file, but this ran into timeout issue. Using PHP 5.2.0. Here is the old script (the fields in the DB are just numbers because I could not figure out what number represented what nutrient, I found this data very poorly document. • Wondering about a way to conserve memory in C# using List<> with structs

  I'm not even sure how I should phrase this question. I'm passing some CustomStruct objects as parameters to a class method, and storing them in a List. What I'm wondering is if it's possible and more efficient to add multiple references to a particular instance of a CustomStruct if a equivalent instance it found. This is a dummy/example struct: public struct CustomStruct { readonly int _x; readonly int _y; readonly int _w; readonly int _h; readonly Enum _e; } Using the below method, you can pass one, two, or three CustomStruct objects as parameters. In the final method (that takes three parameters), it may be the case that the 3rd and possibly the 2nd will have the same value as the first. List<CustomStruct> _list; public void AddBackground(CustomStruct normal) { AddBackground(normal, normal, normal); } public void AddBackground(CustomStruct normal, CustomStruct hover) { AddBackground(normal, hover, hover); } public void AddBackground(CustomStruct normal, CustomStruct hover, CustomStruct active) { _list = new List<CustomStruct>(3); _list.Add(normal); _list.Add(hover); _list.Add(active); } As the method stands now, I believe it will create new instances of CustomStruct objects, and then adds a reference of each to the List. It is my understanding that if I instead check for equality between normal and hover and (if equal) insert normal again in place of hover, when the method completes, hover will lose all references and eventually be garbage collected, whereas normal will have two references in the List. The same could be done for active. That would be better, right? The CustomStruct is a ValueType, and therefore one instance would remain on the Stack, and the three List references would just point to it. The overall List size is determined not by the object Type is contains, but by its Capacity. By eliminating the "duplicate" CustomStuct objects, you allow them to be cleaned up. When the CustomStruct objects are passed to these methods, new instances are created each time. When the structs are added to the List, is another copy made? For example, if i pass just one CustomStruct, AddBackground(normal) creates a copy of the original variable, and then passes it three times to Addbackground(normal, hover, active). In this method, three copies are made of the original copy. When the three local variables are added to the List using Add(), are additional copies created inside Add(), and does that defeat the purpose of any equality checks as previously mentioned? Am I missing anything here?

• rsync over ssh is not working anymore, while ssh itself is working fine (Write failed: broken pipe)

  This issue started happening after i changed router. This is the scenario: Windows7 Host Ubuntu 10.04 Guest (VirtualBox) Ubuntu 10.04 remote server What i used to do is run a very basic rsync command: rsync -avz --delete /local/path/ username@host:/path/to/remote/directory This worked perfect until i did change adsl provider, and i changed router aswell: now, this happens: rsync on Ubuntu Guest is not working anymore (to any random server), if using this new router rsync on Ubuntu Guest is WORKING, if i switch back to old router i tried a new virtual box ubuntu install, and the command is WORKING with both the routers So, the not-working-combo is oldUbuntu + newRouter. To get things worst, i can state that (on the not-working ubuntu) i ping the remote host plain ssh connection to the remote host is working fine (i can auth, connect, and do stuff on the remote host) • Normalization of database for timesheet tool and ensure data integrity

  I'm creating a timesheet application. I have the following entities (amongst others): Company Employee = an employee associated with a company Client = a client associated with a company So far I have the following (abbreviated) database setup: Company - id - name Employee - id - companyId (FK to Company.id) - name Client - id - companyId (FK to Company.id) - name Now, I want an employee to be associated with a client, but only if that client is associated with the company the employee works for. How would you guarantee this data integrity on a database level? Or should I just depend on the application to guarantee this data integrity? I thought about creating a many to many table like this: EmployeeClient - employeeId (FK to Employee.id) - companyId \ (combined FK to Client.companyId, Client.id) - clientId / Thus, when I insert a client for an employee along with the employee's company id, the database should prevent this when the client is not associated with the employee's company id. Does this make sense? Because this still doesn't guarantee the employee is associated with the company. How do you deal with these things? UPDATE The scenario is as followed: A company has multiple employees. Employees will only be linked to one company. A company has multiple clients also. Clients will only be linked to one company. (Company is a sandbox, so to speak). An employee of a company can be linked to a client of it's company, but only if the client is part of the company's clientele. In other words: The application will allow a company to create/add employees and create/add clients (hence the companyId FK in the Employee and Client tables). Next, the company will be allowed to assign certain clients to certain of it's employees (EmployeeClient table). Imagine an employee working on projects for a few clients for which s/he can write billable hours, but the employee must not be allowed to write billable hours for clients they are not assigned to by their employer (the company). So, employees will not automatically have access to all their company's clients, but only to those that the company has selected for them. Hopefully this has shed some more light on the matter.

I have a spreadsheet of surveys, in which I need to see how particular users have varied over time. As such, I need to disregard all rows with unique values in a particular column.
