  I've switched from using constants for Strings: public static final String OPTION_1 = "OPTION_1"; ... to enums: public enum Options { OPTION_1; } With constants, you'd just refer to the constant: String s = TheClass.OPTION_1 But with Enums, you have to specify toString(): String s = Options.OPTION_1.toString(); I don't like that you have to use the toString() statement, and also, in some cases you can forget to include it which can lead to unintended results.. ie: Object o = map.get(Options.OPTION_1); //This won't work as intended if the Map key is a String Is there a better way to use enums for String constants?

• converting between struct and byte array

  his question is about converting between a struct and a byte array. Many solutions are based around GCHandle.Alloc() and Marshal.StructureToPtr(). The problem is these calls generate garbage. For example, under Windows CE 6 R3 about 400 bytes of garbarge is made with a small structure. If the code below could be made to work the solution could be considered cleaner.   Does anyone know if there is a way of specifying the Format of a calendar extender with a dynamic value from the aspx? I tried this but it doesnt seem to set the format at all. How does the concept of includes or merges work within the nanoc system? I have read the docs but I can't seem to find what I want. For example: how can I take two partial content items and merge them together into a new content item.   Is there an easy way (maybe built in solution) to convert TimeSpan to localized string? For example new TimeSpan(3, 5, 0); would be converted to 3 hours, 5minutes (just in polish language). • AS3 Embed Image Instead of drawing graphics

  I've got a custom AS3 scrollbar that I need to modify. The scroll thumb (the draggable part of a scrollbar) is currently just done by drawing a rectangle. But I need it to look more like a real scrollbar. Not sure how to modify the below code to import/use a scroll thumb image: scrollThumb = new Sprite(); scrollThumb.graphics.lineStyle(); scrollThumb.graphics.beginFill(0x0066ff); scrollThumb.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 1, 1); addChild(scrollThumb); I know that I would embed an image by doing something like this: [Embed(source="images/image1.png")] private static var Image1Class:Class; But then how do I set the scrollThumb = to the image?   Here's what I mean. In developing my ASP.NET MVC based site, I've managed to offload a great deal of the static file hosting and even some of the "work". Like so: jQuery for my javascript framework. Instead of hosting it on my site, I use the Google CDN Google maps, obviously "offloaded" - no real work being performed on my server - Google hosted jQueryUI framework - Google CDN jQueryUI CSS framework - Google CDN jQueryUI CSS framework themes - Google CDN So what I'm asking is this, other than what I've got listed... What aspects of your sites have you been able to offload, or embed, from outside services? Couple others that come to mind...   Hi, While reading the code of the NUnit project's assert class, I came across this particular construct - public static void AreEqual(double expected, double? actual, double delta) { AssertDoublesAreEqual(expected, (double)actual, delta ,null, null); } In this function the second input parameter is entered as "double?". The interesting thing is that this code compiles without issue in VS2010 (c# 4.0). Anyone know why this is NOT throwing an error ? Why is "double?" considered a valid keyword and is there any special significance to the "?".

Is there a setting I need to enable, or do I have a syntax error?

• Excel Interop: Range.FormatConditions.Add throws MissingMethodException

  I am writing an application which uses the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel assembly to export/import data from Excel spreadsheets. Everything was going fine (except for 1 based indexing and all those optional parameters!), until I tried to use conditional formatting. When I call Range.FormatConditions.Add I get a MissingMethodException telling me that no such method exists. This happens in both Vista and XP. • StreamReader.ReadToEnd() returning an empty string

  I have a method private static String DecompressAndDecode(byte[] data) { GZipStream decompressor = new GZipStream(new MemoryStream(data), CompressionMode.Decompress); StreamReader decompressed = new StreamReader(decompressor, Encoding.UTF8); String result = decompressed.ReadToEnd(); return result; } I have some GZipped text as input and the result is supposed to be a String representation of this text. The problem is that the method returns an empty string. What is puzzling me is that when I step trough the method in debug mode and reach the return statement the result variable is an empty string but if I create a watch for the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression it returns me the text. What I would expect at this point is the result variable to contain the text and the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression evaluating to an empty string. (Reevaluating the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression returns an empty string as expected). There must be something obvious I'm missing here.

  Today I tried including the apache.commons.codec package in my Android application and couldn't get it running. • lwjgl 101: How can I write the basics?

  This ought to be really simple, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to compile anything with lwjgl and have it work. I can write something like package gwison; import org.lwjgl.Sys; public class G { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(Sys.getTime()); } } and I can easily compile a program with several classes in different packages, as long as I wrote all the classes myself. But I have no clue how to make G work. I think it has something to do with classpathes? Maybe? Help?

  I want to give a static javascript block of code to a html template designer, which can be: either inline or external or both used once or more in the html template and each block can determine its position in the template relative to the other javascript code blocks. An example could be image banners served using javascript. I give code to template designer who places it in two places, once for a horizontal banner in the header and once for a vertical banner. The same code runs in both blocks but knowing their positions can determine if to serve a horizontal or a vertical image banner. Make sense?

  I'm pretty sure of the answer, but just wanted to check with you all. Is it possible to play an embedded AAC file in Flash/Flex somehow? I know you can playback embedded MP3 files, but I hear that you can't do that with AAC. Anyone know any sneaky ways to get around this? By way of illustration, here's come code. • Problem loading XMLDocument with non standard tags

  Hi, I have a code needed to load an XML document from a reader, something like this: private static XmlDocument GetDocumentStream(string xmlAddress) { var settings = new XmlReaderSettings(); settings.DtdProcessing = DtdProcessing.Ignore; settings.ValidationFlags = XmlSchemaValidationFlags.None; var reader = XmlReader.Create(xmlAddress, settings); document.Load(reader); return document; } But in my XML document, I have nodes like this one: <link rel="edit-media" title="Package" href="Packages(Id='51Degrees.mobi',Version='0.1.11.9')/$value" /> Is to my understanding that the node should be like <link rel="edit-media" title="Package"></link> But, I don't create the Xml document and I certainly don't want to change it, but when I try to load the XML document, the document.Load line throws an exception. To be more specific, the XML file is the RSS source for the nuPack project. Any ideas would be very appreaciated on how to be able to read this document properly.
