  • What is the best way to auto-generate INSERT statements for a SQL Server table?

    We are writing a new application, and while testing, we will need a bunch of dummy data. I've added that data by using MS Access to dump excel files into the relevant tables. Every so often, we want to "refresh" the relevant tables, which means dropping them all, re-creating them, and running a saved MS Access append query. The first part (dropping & re-creating) is an easy sql script, but the last part makes me cringe. I want a single setup script that has a bunch of INSERTs to regenerate the dummy data. I have the data in the tables now. What is the best way to automatically generate a big list of INSERT statements from that dataset? I'm thinking of something like in TOAD (for Oracle) where you can right-click on a grid and click Save As-Insert Statements, and it will just dump a big sql script wherever you want. The only way I can think of doing it is to save the table to an excel sheet and then write an excel formula to create an INSERT for every row, which is surely not the best way. I'm using the 2008 Management Studio to connect to a SQL Server 2005 database.

  • Create jQuery Slider Range With One Handle Not Using Min/Max

    Hey all, Is there any possible way to create a slider that will create a range similar to what is done with one handle using min/max, only instead of min/max, starting the range from say 50 (on a scale from 1-100)? I realize this will most likely require modification of the slider or creating a plugin, just wondering if anyone has done this already or knows how to go about it. I.e. something like this: http://jqueryui.com/demos/slider/rangemin.html Only, instead of the range going from the min, going off of where the handle is, and allowing the user to slide either left or right of that fixed starting point to create the range. Any help is appreciated, and I'd be glad to clarify what I need if that doesn't make sense! :)

I have also tried using the web platform installer to install the express version instead but the SQL Server Installation fails with that also. The management studio installs fine but not the server. I did have the express edition installed on the machine previously but uninstalled it to upgrade to the full version, I wish I hadn't now.   • How can I access mainframe data with .Net applications and SQL Queries?

    We have a large amount of data stored on an IBM mainframe using VSAM files. A lot of this data is dropped on the network every night in the form of text files to be processed and dumped into FoxPro and SQL Server databases. There are also many text files produced nightly by custom applications that get uploaded to the mainframe to keep everything in sync. Keeping the everything in sync is very tricky, to say the least. We are not getting rid of the mainframe any time soon and we would like to replace all the nightly batch processing with real time access to the mainframe data. We would like to be able to: Read data directly from the mainframe and produce reports based on it. Possibly using SQL queries. Read and Write data from custom .Net applications. We are not looking for a new platform to interface with the mainframe like Information Builders offers. We don't want to build application modules or reports with new "Business Intelligence" tools. We already know how to generate reports and write custom applications using SQL,.Net, Visual Studio, etc. All we are looking for is some sort of adapter to connect to our mainframe data. Any ideas are appreciated.

    Is there an open source Flash uploader that can handle files larger than 2 GB? ASP.net implementations like SlickUpload are not an option, and SWFUpload (and others that I've seen) do not handle files larger than 2 GB. Nor is requiring the user to have Java installed to run applets. This would be for both IE and Firefox. I've seen a couple "large file transfer" sites that have a Flash uploader and claim to go past the 2GB limit (which is the limit for http uploads for most browsers) so I know it is technically possible.

  • Can "\Device\NamedPipe\\Win32Pipes" handles cause "Too many open files" error?

    Continuing from this question: When I am trying to do fopen on Windows, I get a "Too many open files" error. I tried to analyze, how many open files I have, and seems like not too much. But when I executed Process Explorer, I noticed that I have many open handles with similar names: "\Device\NamedPipe\Win32Pipes.00000590.000000e2", "\Device\NamedPipe\Win32Pipes.00000590.000000e3", etc. I see that the number of these handles is exactly equal to the number of the iterations that my program executed, before it returned "Too many open files" and stopped. I am looking for an answer, what are these handles, and could they actually cause the "Too many open files" error? In my program I am loading files from remote drive, and I am creating TCP/IP connections. Could one of these operations create these handles?

  • How can I tell if a given hWnd is still valid?

    Please forgive my ignorance, I'm completely new when it comes to winforms programming. I'm using a third-party class that spawns an instance of Internet Explorer. This class has a property, hWnd, that returns the hWnd of the process. Later on down the line, I may want to reuse the instance of the application if it still exists, so I need to tell my helper class to attach to it. Prior to doing that, I'd like to know if the given hWnd is still valid, otherwise I'll spawn another instance. How can I do this in C# & .NET 3.5?   • How to handle concurrency control in dynamic data?

    I've been quite impressed with dynamic data and how easy and quick it is to get a simple site up and running. I'm planning on using it for a simple internal HR admin site for registering people's skills/degrees/etc. I've been watching the intro videos at www.asp.net/dynamicdata and one thing they never mention is how to handle concurrency control. It seems that DD does not handle it right out of the box (unless there is some setting I haven't seen) as I manually generated a change conflict exception and the app failed without any user friendly message. Anybody know if DD handles it out of the box? Or do you have to somehow build it into the site?

    I am developing a win32 windows application with Delphi and MS SQL Server. it works fine in LAN but I am trying to add the support for SQL Server remote connections (= working with a DB that can be accessed with an external IP, as described in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;914277). Basically I have a Table in DB where I keep the DocumentID, the document description and the Document path (like \FILESERVER\MyApplicationDocuments\45.zip). Of course \FILESERVER is a local (LAN) path for the server but not for the client (as I am now trying to add the support for remote connections). So I need a way to access \FILESERVER even if of course I cannot see it in LAN. I found the following T-SQL code snippet that is perfect for the "download trick": SELECT BulkColumn as MyFile FROM OPENROWSET(BULK '\FILESERVER\MyApplicationDocuments\45.zip' , SINGLE_BLOB) AS X With the code above I can download a file on the client. But how to upload it? I need an "Uppload trick" to be able to insert new files, but also to delete or replace existing files. Can anyone suggest? If a trick is not available could you suggest an alternative? Like an extended stored procedure or calling some .net assembly from the server.

But the doc of ShellExecute itself is mute on the subject. Can you confirm we indeed do not need to close this handle ? But then, how can a handle be valid and in no need of being closed ??? Which of the following statements is/are true: the handle is invalid and we can't do anything with it; the handle is never freed and there is a (Microsoft-sponsored) memory leak (until the caller program ends); the handle is automatically freed by the system at some time and never reused afterwards (- another kind of resource leak).     I do not get to understand how the Perl read($buf) function is able to modify the content of the $buf variable. $buf is not a reference, so the parameter is given by copy (from my c/c++ knowledge). So how come the $buf variable is modified in the caller ? Is it a tie variable or something ?   • Javascript Grid that can handle sections in a table

    I am making an ASP.NET MVC application that lets a user design a questionnaire that other users can fill out. Now, questionnaires, rather than just having a list of questions, often have sections or subsections that could have headings and not the other columns that an ordinary row (a question) would have. I want a JS Grid that can handle sections and subsections elegantly. I tried using JQGrid, but there the options I have are limited to a "Grid as Subgrid" structure. The appearance becomes quite complex and unlike a questionnaire. Is there a Javascript Grid or a JQuery plugin that can handle this? I can write my own HTML table as long as the JS app will format the table and will add some user-friendliness to the table.

    Hi, I'm trying to connect to a SQL server from VB. The SQL server is across the network uses my windows login for authentication. However, I've been trying to use the SqlClient.SqlConnection in VB, and it fails to connect.   • Can I force the auto-generated Linq-to-SQL classes to use an OUTER JOIN?

    Let's say I have an Order table which has a FirstSalesPersonId field and a SecondSalesPersonId field. Both of these are foreign keys that reference the SalesPerson table. For any given order, either one or two salespersons may be credited with the order. In other words, FirstSalesPersonId can never be NULL, but SecondSalesPersonId can be NULL. When I drop my Order and SalesPerson tables onto the "Linq to SQL Classes" design surface, the class builder spots the two FK relationships from the Order table to the SalesPerson table, and so the generated Order class has a SalesPerson field and a SalesPerson1 field (which I can rename to SalesPerson1 and SalesPerson2 to avoid confusion). Because I always want to have the salesperson data available whenever I process an order, I am using DataLoadOptions.LoadWith to specify that the two salesperson fields are populated when the order instance is populated, as follows: dataLoadOptions.LoadWith<Order>(o => o.SalesPerson1); dataLoadOptions.LoadWith<Order>(o => o.SalesPerson2); The problem I'm having is that Linq to SQL is using something like the following SQL to load an order: SELECT ... FROM Order O INNER JOIN SalesPerson SP1 ON SP1.salesPersonId = O.firstSalesPersonId INNER JOIN SalesPerson SP2 ON SP2.salesPersonId = O.secondSalesPersonId This would make sense if there were always two salesperson records, but because there is sometimes no second salesperson (secondSalesPersonId is NULL), the INNER JOIN causes the query to return no records in that case. What I effectively want here is to change the second INNER JOIN into a LEFT OUTER JOIN. Is there a way to do that through the UI for the class generator? If not, how else can I achieve this? (Note that because I'm using the generated classes almost exclusively, I'd rather not have something tacked on the side for this one case if I can avoid it).

    I have a set of sql - queries: List<String> queries = ... queries[0] = "select id from person where ..."; ... queries[8756] = "select id from person where ..."; Each query selects rows from the same table 'person'. The only difference is the where-clause. Table 'person' looks like this: id | name | ... many other columns How can i determine which queries will contain a certain person in their subset? For example: List<Integer> matchingQueries = magicMethod(queries, [23,45]); The list obtained by 'magicMethod' filters all sql queries present in the list 'queries' (defined above) and returns only those that contain either the person with id 23 OR a person with id 45. Why i need it: I am dealing with an application that contains products and categories where the categories are sql queries that define which products belong to them (queries stored in a table also). Now i have a requirement where an admin has to see all categories an item belongs to immediately after the item was created. I tried to move the file pointer to the end of the file, but no result (no writing to the file at all).   • How should I name my SQL query files? Should I use some methodology?

    We have an Oracle 10g database (a huge one) in our company, and I provide employees with data upon their requests. My problem is, I save almost every SQL query I wrote, and now my list has grown too much. I want to organize and rename these .sql files so that I can find the one I want easily. At the moment, I'm using some folders named as Sales Dept, Field Team, Planning Dept, Special etc. and under those folders there are .sql files like Delivery_sales_1, Delivery_sales_2, ... Sent_sold_lostsales_endpoints, ... Sales_provinces_period, Returnrates_regions_bymonths, ... Jack_1, Steve_1, Steve_2, ... I try to name the files regarding their content but this makes file names longer and does not completely meet my needs. Sometimes someone comes and demands a special report, and I give the file his name, but this is also not so good. I know duplicates or very similar files are growing in time but I don't have control over them. Can you show me the right direction to rename all these files and folders and organize my queries for easy and better control? TIA.

I'm using gcc/g++, so adding the -MP option when generating dependencies works great for me, until I get to the link stage with my .a file... What about updating archives/libraries when input sources go away?     I have a fairly well multi-threaded winforms app that employs the EventWaitHandle in a number of places to synchronize access. So I have code similar to this: List<int> _revTypes; EventWaitHandle _ewh = new EventWaitHandle(false, EventResetMode.ManualReset); void StartBackgroundTask() { _ewh.Reset(); Thread t = new Thread(new ThreadStart(LoadStuff)); t.Start(); } void LoadStuff() { _revTypes = WebServiceCall.GetRevTypes() // ...bunch of other calls fetching data from all over the place // using the same pattern _ewh.Set(); } List<int> RevTypes { get { _ewh.WaitOne(); return _revTypes; } } Then I just call .RevTypes somewehre from the UI and it will return data to me when LoadStuff has finished executing. All this works perfectly correctly, however RevTypes is just one property - there are actually several dozens of these. And one or several of these properties are holding up the UI from loading in a fast manner. Short of placing benchmark code into each property, is there a way to see which property is holding the UI from loading? Is there a way to see whether the EventWaitHandle is forced to actually wait?

    I would like to create a SlidingDrawer, which has a handle like this: Until now i tought my solution was ok, which was: 1.) I created a 9 patch: As you can see, the center part is not strechable, only the two sides (and the height, if needed). On most of the phones i got the desired result, shown above. 2.) Put it in this layout (just pseudo-code): <SlidingDrawer (fullscreen)> <Button as handle (full width, backround the 9patch)/> <LinearLayout as content /> </SlidingDrawer> However, i tested the app on my friend's new Galaxy S3, and the result was something like this: The part, which should be centered, was completely off one side. And i have no idea, why and it bugs me since then. My Question: Is this the prefered way (9 patch with full width) to acomplish the look i want? If not, could someone suggest me a better solution?
