• Best way to get back to using the power of lxml after having to use a regex to find something in an

  I am trying to rip some text out of a large number of html documents (numbers in the hundreds of thousands). The documents are really forms but they are prepared by a very large group of different organizations so there is significant variation in how they create the document. For example, the documents are divided into chapters. I might want to extract the contents of Chapter 5 from every document so I can analyze the content of the chapter. Initially I thought this would be easy but it turns out that the authors might use a set of non-nested tables throughout the document to hold the content so that Chapter n could be displayed using td tags inside a table. Or they might use other elements such as p tags H tags, div tags or any other block level element. After trying repeatedly to use lxml to help me identify the beginning and end of each chapter I have determined that it is a lot cleaner to use a regular expression because in every case, no matter what the enclosing html element is the chapter label is always in the form of >Chapter # It is a little more complicated in that there might be some white space or non-breaking space represented in different ways (  or   or just spaces). Nonetheless it was trivial to write a regular expression to identify the beginning of each section. (The beginning of one section is the end of the previous section.) But now I want to use lxml to get the text out. My thought is that I have really no choice but to walk along my string to find the close tag for the element that encloses the text I am using to find the relevant section. That is here is one example where the element holding the Chapter name is a div <div style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN-LEFT: 0pt; TEXT-INDENT: 0pt; MARGIN-RIGHT: 0pt" align="left"><font style="DISPLAY: inline; FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Times New Roman">Chapter 1.&#160;&#160;&#160;Our Beginnings.</font></div> So I am imagining that I would begin at the location where I found the match for chapter 1 and set up a regular expressions to find the next </div|</td|</p|</h1 . . . So at this point I have identified the type of element holding my chapter heading I can use the same logic to find all of the text that is within that element that is set up a regular expression to help me mark from >Chapter 1.&#160;&#160;&#160;Our Beginnings.< So I have identified where my Chapter 1 begins I can do the same for chapter 2 (which is where Chapter 1 ends) Now I am imagining that I am going to snip the document beginning at the opening of the element that I identified as the element the indicates where chapter 1 begins and ending just before the opening of the element that I identified as the element that indicates where Chapter 2 begins. The string that I have identified will then be fed to lxml to use its power to get the content. I am going to all of this trouble because I have read over and over - never use a regular expression to extract content from html documents and I have not hit on a way to be as accurate with lxml to identify the starting and ending locations for the text I want to extract. For example, I can never be certain that the subtitle of Chapter 1 is Our Beginnings it could be Our Red Canary. Let me say that I spent two solid days trying with lxml to be confident that I had the beginning and ending elements and I could only be accurate <60% of the time but a very short regular expression has given me better than 95% success. I have a tendency to make things more complicated than necessary so I am wondering if anyone has seen or solved a similar problems and if they had an approach (not the details mind you) that they would like to offer.

• Youtube API upload - Incomplete Multipart body error

  Hello, I'm trying to upload videos in Youtube through HttpWebRequest. Everything seems to be fine when uploading following the example given in API documentation. I see that request is being formed correctly, with content and token sent but I receive "Incomplete multipart body" as response.   I want my datagrid columns to share a cell/celledit template. I have the solution do that (thanks to WPF DataGridTemplateColumn shared template?). Now what I would love to is improving the readability by avoiding all the node nesting. • Two-way databinding of a custom templated control. Eval works, but not Bind.

  I hate long code snippets and I'm sorry about this one, but it turns out that this asp.net stuff can't get much shorter and it's so specific that I haven't been able to generalize it without a full code listing. I just want simple two-way, declarative databinding to a single instance of an object. Not a list of objects of a type with a bunch of NotImplementedExceptions for Add, Delete, and Select, but just a single view-state persisted object. This is certainly something that can be done but I've struggled with an implementation for years. This newest, closest implementation was inspired by this article from 4-Guys-From-Rolla, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa478964.aspx. Unfortunately, after implementing, I'm getting the following error and I don't know what I'm missing: System.InvalidOperationException: Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control. If I don't use Bind(), and only use Eval() functionality, it works. In that way, the error is especially confusing. • Unable to browse some pdfs and docs.

  I have a web site that uses Microsoft Indexing Service to index and query a directory that holds various documents of type pdf, rtf, mht, and doc. The indexing and querying works well (for the most part); however, some files will load while others will not. This is a Windows Server 2003 box running the site using IIS 6. The indexed directory is a sub directory off of the site's root directory (i.e. http://my.domain.com/files/). The file paths are accurate in the URL; however, I can only access some of the files of each file type. The files that I cannot access give a 404 File Not Found. I am able to open all files via windows explorer;however, attempting to open them via a browser over http is hit and miss. Has anyone experienced this issue and know how to resolve it? Anyone have any idea why I could access some files but not others? Does anyone have any recommendations on what to look into to try this (i.e. does owner matter or something like that?)?   I want to populate span tags for all text nodes between the self closing tags s1 and s2 having the same id. Eg. For the input: <a> <b>Some <s1 id="1" />text here</b> <c>Some <s2 id="1"/>more text <s1 id="2"/> here<c/> <d>More data</d> <e>Some <s2 id="2" />more data</e> </a> In the above input i want to enclose every text node between <s1 id="1"/> and <s2 id="1" /> with span tags. Also all the text node between <s1 id="2" /> and <s2 id="2" /> Expected Output: <a> <b>Some <span class="spanClass" id="1a">text here</span></b> <c><span class="spanClass" id="1b">Some </span>more text <span class="spanClass" id="2a"> here</span></c> <d><span class="spanClass" id="2b">More data</span></d> <e><span class="spanClass" id="2c">Some </span>more data</e> </a> I am not concened about the pattern of the id tag populated for the span as along it is unique. How can this be achieved using XSL? EDIT: The input can have any structure and not exactly the same as seen in the sample input. • Change ListView background - strage behaviour

  Hi again, I have a problem with changing the background of a view in a ListView. What I need: Change the background image of a row onClick() What actually happens: The background gets changed (selected) after pressing e.g. the first entry. But after scrolling down the 8th entry is selected too. Scroll back to the top the first isn't selected anymore. The second entry is selected now. Continue scrolling and it continues jumping... What i'm dong in the Code: I have channels, and onClick() I toggle an attribute of channel boolean selected and then I change the background. I'm doing this only onClick() thats why I don't get why it's actuelly happening on other entries too. One thing I notices is: It seems to be only the "drawing"-part because the item which get selected "by it self" has still the selected value on false I think it seems to have something to do with the reuse of the views in the custom ListAdapters getView(...) • Using jQuery to call a web service

  I have created a web service which takes a username and password as parameters and returns a list of children in JSON (the user is a Social Worker). The web service is hosted locally with IIS7. • AsyncPostBackTrigger Just flashing/flicking the UpdatePanel but not updating it

  I am trying UpdatePanel & AsyncPostBackTrigger on master pages through find control method but problem is when I click on button (UpdateButton) It just flash/flick (No Postback) the UpdatePanle but still it don't update or refresh the gridview (images) inside the updatePanel. I have placed script Manger on the master page & an AJAX Update panel in a ContentPlaceHolder in the child page. Also, in another ContentPlaceholder there is an asp button (outside of the UpdatePanel). I want to refresh/reload the AJAX UpdatePanel with this asp button. Thanks for suggestions. • Module Adminhtml blocks not loading

  I was working on a Magento module and it was working fine. At some point, I was trying to enable WYSIWYG in an edit form 'content' field and suddenly, my adminhtml grid and edit blocks stopped being generated. On my system are TinyMCE and Fontis FCKEditor WYSIWYG editors extensions. I'm not sure what I did wrong but my adminhtml blocks will no longer generate. • MediaElement not showing in custom 3D class

  I'm trying to display a videostream in a Viewport3d. When I add the MediaElement via xaml, the video plays without a problem; even when I add the video as ModelVisual3D in the code-behind, the video works. When I abstract the video into a class, however, the video stops appearing. This happens with both web and local video files. I tried compiling with both x86 and 64 bit. Any way to fix this behaviour? Why is this happening? • jQuery $.ajax response empty, but only in Chrome

  I've exhausted every avenue of research to solve this one so hopefully someone else will think of something I just didn't. Relatively straight forward setup, I have a html page with some javascript that makes an ajax request to a URL (in the same domain) the java web app in the background does its stuff and returns a partial html page (no html, head or body tags, just the content) which should be inserted at a particular point in the page. All sounds pretty easy and the code I have works in IE, Firefox and Safari, but not in Chrome. In Chrome the target element just ends up empty and if I look at the resource request in Chromes developer tools the response content is also empty. All very confusing, I've tried a myriad of things to solve it and I'm just out of ideas. • Using resize to getScript if above x pixels (jQuery)

  So I have an issue with this script. It basically is loading the script on any resize event. I have it working if lets say... - User has window size above 768 (getScipt() and content by .load() in that script) - Script will load (and content) - User for some reason window size goes below 768 (css hides #div) - User re-sizes again above 768, And does not load the script again! (css displays the div) Great. Works right. Now.. (for some cray reason) - User has window size below 768 (Does NOT getScript() or nothing) - User re-sizes above 768 and stops at any px (getScript and content) - User re-sizes again anything above 768 (It getScript AGAIN) I need it to only get script once. Ive used some code from here jQuery: How to detect window width on the fly? (edit - i found this, which he has the same issue of loading a script once.) Problem with function within $(window).resize - using jQuery And others i lost the links to :/ When i first found this problem I was using something like this, then i added the allcheckWidth() to solve problem. Edit - To give an example, in desktop.js i have a gif that loads before "abc" content, that gets inserted by .load(). On resize this gif will show up and the .load() in desktop.js will fire again. So if getScript was only being called once, it should not be doing anything again in desktop.js. Confusing?

• REST WCF service locks thread when called using AJAX in an ASP.Net site

  I have a WCF REST service consumed in an ASP.Net site, from a page, using AJAX. I want to be able to call methods from my service async, which means I will have callback handlers in my javascript code and when the methods finish, the output will be updated. The methods should run in different threads, because each method will take different time to complete their task I have the code semi-working, but something strange is happening because the first time I execute the code after compiling, it works, running each call in a different threads but subsequent calls blocs the service, in such a way that each method call has to wait until the last call ends in order to execute the next one. And they are running on the same thread. What I want is to add a unique class name like this...... Look for a div with a class of .equal which has a child div with a class of .block and which further has a child div with an ID of sidebar-a.   I am an amateur coder and I have a small problem. My goal is to have one text input with two buttons. The first button uses a bit of Javascript called SundayMorning to translate the text (to Chinese) The second button submits the text to a URL. The URl requires that Chinese text be encoded it in GBK2312 character set. I have duct taped together various found code to the result I have now. Due to the finicky behavior of the SundayMorning Javascript, my solution is to have two input boxes, the second of which I will hide. Right now, this doesn't work: I am unable to encode the Chinese in GBK2312, no matter what I try. BONUS CONUNDRUM: The second box copies my input letter by letter as I type, but does not copy the Chinese translation that the Javascript returns. Sorry for my janky amateur code. • How do I get public feed from facebook without user authentication on a native/Desktop app?

  I'm looking to get publicly available facebook feeds (i.e. Google's facebook page/posts). However instead of forcing the user to sign into their own facebook app, I want to be able to access these posts. I've looked into using "App Access Tokens" however since my application is a native/Desktop app (iOS, Android, WP8/Win 8) I'm not able to do this. Is there a way to get publicly accessible feeds from facebook without user authentication? I'm using the Facebook C# SDK to access facebook. • Do SEO-friendly URLs really affect a page's ranking?

  SEO-friendly URLs are all the rage these days. But do they actually have a meaningful impact on a page's ranking in Google and other search engines? If so, why? If not, why not? (Note that I would absolutely agree that SEO-friendly URLs are nicer to use for human beings. My question is whether they actually make a difference to the ranking algorithms.) Update: As it turns out, the Google post that endorphine points to here has caused tremendous confusion in the SEO community. For a sampling of the discussion, see here, here, and here. Part of the problem is that the Google post is addressing the worst case where URL rewriting is done poorly and so you'd be better off sticking with a dynamic URL rather than a mangled static "SEO-friendly" URL. There's no question dynamic URLs can be crawled by Google and can achieve high rankings. When I run the application the static and dynamically added controls show up perfectly, but the dynamic controls do not appear within the visual studio designer. Only the controls placed declaratively in the XAML appear. I'm currently adding the dynamic control in the CreateUIElementCollection override, but I've also tried this in the constructor without success. • Making flexible C# code in MVC2 for Stored Procedures

  Thanks to Darin Dimitrov's suggestion I got a big step further in understanding good MVC code, but I'm having some problems making it flexible. I implemented Darin's suggested solution, and it works perfectly for single controllers. However I'm having some trouble implementing it with some flexibility. What I'm looking for is this; To be able to make dynamic column names in json Instead of using "Column1: 'value', ..." and "Column2: 'value', ..." inside the json, I'd like to use for example "id: 'value', ..." and "place: 'value' ..." for one stored procedure, and "animal" and "type" in another (inside the json format). To be able to make dynamic amounts of columns dependent on which stored procedure is called Some stored procedures I'll want to read more than 2 rows from, is there a smart way of accomplishing that? To be able to make numeric (floats and integers) rows from the database be presented inside the json without quotes Like this (name and age); { Column1: "John", Column2: 53 }, I would be very grateful for any feedback and suggestions / code examples I can get here. Even imperfect ones.
