  • Recommended Clang command line options

    - by frou
The Manual for Clang seems to be work in progress, so could you help me formulate the definitive command line options for compiling ANSI-C (AKA C89, C90) with maximum strictness and relevant/helpful warnings? Clang is a compiler front end for the C, C++, and Objective-C programming languages. It uses the Low Level Virtual Machine (LLVM) as its back end. It is still under development. Its goal is to offer a replacement to the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC)

  • Offloading Cable Modem operations to Router

    - by Matt
I may be crazy here, but I seem to recall a conversation in the past stating that it was possible to offload some of the operations taken by one's cable modem to one's router. The logic was that since the cable modem is often equipped with a cheaper processor as it is supplied by your provider, that it often chokes even crashes when you start a torrent or something else with a lot of connections. I seem to recall that some routers offered the ability to take some of the modem's operations. Is this possible or have I imagined the whole thing? I ask because my modem seems to have many issues when I start torrents.

  • Getting started with F#

    - by Ian Quigley
What's a good way to get into F# programming? What's a good "Hello world" example and what simple examples can show me why I want to use it over C#. Also what tools do I need? I have WindowsXP, Visual Studio 2008 etc.

  • Python Mindstorms RCX

    - by Kyle Schmidt
I've got 30 unopened Lego Mindstorms kits that I'd love to use in my intro programming class to do some simple robotics stuff at the end of the year. We're using Python in the class, so I'd prefer there to be a way for the kids to write the programs in Python. Unfortunately, these are old kits with RCX bricks - not the newer NXT ones, so most of the projects like NXT_Python can't help me. Is there any way to make that happen?

  • WPF Coordinates of intersection from two Line objects

    - by Becky Franklin
I have two Line objects in C# WPF, and I'm trying to construct a method to work out the coordinates at which the lines intersect (if at all). After giving myself a headache reminding myself of high school maths to do this, I can't work out how to map it into programming format - anyone know how to do this? Thanks very much, Becky

    - by contactmatt
Hi programming some C# in a form with a bunch of group boxes. I have a two Calendar controls that when called upon, are partially invisible due to surrounding group boxes. this.grp_TransactionDetails.Controls.Add(this.cal_Ctrl); this.grp_TransactionDetails.Controls.Add(this.cal_Batch); Any ideas? (I wish there was a z-index property)

  • What is a 'thunk'?

    - by fbrereto
I've seen it used in programming (specifically in the C++ domain) and have no idea what it is. Presumably it is a design pattern, but I could be wrong. Can anyone give a good example of a thunk?

  • Adding Parsekit To An Xcode Project

    - by Garry
I am trying to add the Parsekit framework to my OSX Xcode project. I've never added a 3rd party framework before and I can't get it to work right. I dragged the included Xcode project into my 'Groups & Files' pane and chose to Add it to my project. I then dragged Parsekit.framework underneath the Link Binary With Libraries heading. Then I double-clicked my target app and added Parsekit as a Direct Dependency. I also added libicucore.dylib as a Linked Library (as it says to do this on their site). Finally, in the Build settings tab of my target info I set the Header Search Paths to /Users/path/to/include/directory and the Other Linker Flags to -ObjC -all_load. Running this as a debug build work fine with no errors. However, when I build my app to release and then try to run the executable created, the app fails to load with the following error message: MyApp cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure myApp works with this version of Mac OS X. Here is the dump from the crash reporter: Process: MyApp [11658] Path: /Users/Garry/Programming/Xcode/Mac/MyApp/build/Release/MyApp.app/Contents/MacOS/MyApp Identifier: com.yourcompany.MyApp Version: ??? • Learning XNA for Game Development. Is it worth It?

    - by Nipuna Silva
It seems that most of the popular games in the world are developed using C++. But Microsoft's game platform, XNA Studio is based on programming in C# and I didn't find any popular game which was developed using XNA. Also there are fewer Ebooks you find on XNA and even the google search for a problem won't give you much help. Does people doesn't use XNA as a gaming platform? Is it worth learning XNA for game development or should I consider some other platform?

  • Tips for learning faster

    - by Helper Method
When I start to learn something new, a new tool, programming language, etc. it often takes me sooo much time to learn it. In the end, I have a deep understanding (well, most of the time ;-)), but lacking the time for other things also important. Do you know any tips to learn faster without sacrificing too much depth?

  • which collaborative tools do you use to communicate between team members [closed]

    - by john
I work for a small company and would like to set up some sort of a collaborative tool so that team members can share thoughts, upload documents...something like sharepoint maybe, but not that suffisticated. Only good option I've seen so far is joomla CMS. Just want to get an opinion of the community on which tools they have used for these purposes. I know this is not programming related but I thought stackoverflow community would be good to get an opinion on this.

  • Why is the volatile qualifier used through out std::atomic?

    - by Caspin
From what I've read from Herb Sutter and others you would think that volatile and concurrent programming were completely orthogonal concepts, at least as far as C/C++ are concerned. However, in GCC c++0x extension all of std::atomic's member functions have the volatile qualifier. The same is true in Anthony Williams's implementation of std::atomic. So what's deal, do my atomic<> variables need be volatile or not?

  • Mac : Run Foundation Tool app as cronjob?

    - by Holli
This may not be completely programming related ... In Xcode I wrote a little Foundation Tool application for maintenance. Copy files from A to B , delete logs and so on. Now I want to run the application in background once a day or once an hour. How do I set this up? Can it be done with a Foundation Tool application or is there another Xcode project type for tasks like this?
