• Writing a filter for incoming connections

  I'm using C++/boost::asio under Win7. I'm trying to "sniff" trafic over a given TCP/IP port. Hence, I'd like to listen on that port, receive messages, analyze them, but also immidately allow them to flow further, as if I never intercepted them. I want them to sink into the program that normally listens and connects on that port. Imagine a transparent proxy, but not for HTTP. I'd rather find a code-based solution, but barring that, maybe you would suggest a tool?

• Updating a Database from DataBound Controls

  Hi. I'm currently creating a WinForm in VB.NET bound to an access database. Basically what i have are two forms: one is a search form used to search the database, and the other is a details form. You run a search on the searchForm and it returns a list of Primary Keys and a few other identifying values. You then double click on the entry you want to view, and it loads the details form. The Details form has a collection of databound controls to display the data: mostly text boxes and checkboxs. The way i've set it up is i used the UI to build the form and then set the DataBindings Property of each control to "TblPropertiesBindingSource - " where value name is one of the values in the table (such as PropertyID or HasWoodFloor). Then, when you double click an entry in the searchform, I handle the event by parsing the Primary Key (PropertyID) out of the selected row and then storing this to the details form: Note: Detail is the details form that is opened to display the info Private Sub propView_CellDoubleClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles propView.CellDoubleClick Dim detail As frmPropertiesDetail = New frmPropertiesDetail detail.id = propView.Rows(e.RowIndex).Cells(0).Value detail.Show() End Sub Then, upon loading the details form, it set's the filter on the BindSource as such: TblPropertiesBindingSource.Filter() = "PropertyID=" & id This works great so far. All the controls on the details form will display the correct info. The problem is updating changes. Scenario: If i have the user load the details for say, property 10001, it will show a description in a textBox named descriptionBox which is identical to the value of the description value of for that entry in the database. I want the user to then be able to change the text of the text box (which they can currently do) and click the save button (saveBut) and have the form update all the values in the controls to the database. Theorectically, it should do this as the controls are DataBound, thus i can avoid writing code that tells each entry in the database row to take the value of the aligned control. I've tried calleding PropertiesTableAdapter.Update(PropertiesBindingSource.DataSource), but that doesnt seem to do it.

• Accessing the calling object into ajax response... (not the ajax call)

  I have an object of type Application (defined by me). Whenever an object of this type is created, it automatically loads a php file say "start.php" using jquery ajax and assign the response to a div say "Respo". Now what i want is to access the Application object from that Respo div. Unfortunately, i have no clue how to do this... in my ajax call: function Application(options) { ....... var appObj=this; $.ajax({ url:appObj.location, //Already defined success:function(data) { $("#respo").html(data); } }); } Now in my Respo division i want to access that Application object... I tried: alert(this) but it resulted in an object of DOMWindow... i tried editing success function as: function Application(options) { ....... var appObj=this; $.ajax({ url:appObj.location, //Already defined success:function(data) { $("#respo").html("<script type='text/javascript'>var Self="+appObj+"</script>"); $("#respo").html(data); } }); } But i ended nowhere. :( Although if i assign "var Self='nishchay';" then alerting Self from start.php gives nishchay but i am not able to assign the calling object of Application type to the Self variable. It is the only way I cud think of. :\ Please help me... actually my object has some editing functions to control itself - its look and feel and some other options.   i'm running one application in android browser which contain the following code.. XPathResult undefined... this time control come to else statement and even here it's showing that selectNodes is undefind and. so the result come as null whereas in Firefox it's giving list of nodes.. realy need it to be done ... help needed.. thanks...

  I am setting up a client and exchange project and both are connecting to a remote server. Exchange will connect to the server by EMS connection. While client will connect by FIX. For the aim of building of black box testing, both client and exchange engine will be given some predefined testcases to send and receive to the server. I design the client engine with multithread processing to manipulate many testcases. Actually it is able to run succesfully. For exchange engine, I wonder that multi thread is applicable in the context that the exchange engine just need to publish a message when it received msg from subscribed topic on server. • Omit Properties from WebControl Serialization

  I have to serialize several objects inheriting from WebControl for database storage. These include several unecessary (to me) properties that I would prefer to omit from serialization. For example BackColor, BorderColor, etc. Here is an example of an XML serialization of one of my controls inheriting from WebControl. <Control xsi:type="SerializePanel"> <ID>grCont</ID> <Controls /> <BackColor /> <BorderColor /> <BorderWidth /> <CssClass>grActVid bwText</CssClass> <ForeColor /> <Height /> <Width /> ... </Control> I have been trying to create a common base class for my controls that inherits from WebControl and uses the "xxxSpecified" trick to selectively choose not to serialize certain properties. For example to ignore an empty BorderColor property, I'd expect [XmlIgnore] public bool BorderColorSpecified() { return !base.BorderColor.IsEmpty; } to work, but it's never called during serialization. I've also tried it in the class to be serialized as well as the base class. Since the classes themselves might change, I'd prefer not to have to create a custom serializer. Any ideas?

• Embedded scripting engine in .Net app

  I am looking to replace an old control being used for scripting an application. The control used to be called SAX Basic, but is now called WinWrap. It provides us with two primary functions. 1) It's a scripting engine (VB) 2) It has a GUI for developing and debugging scripts that get run in the hosting application. The first feature it provides is actually pretty easy to replace. There are so many great methods of running just about any kind of code at runtime that it's almost a non-issue. Just about any language targeting the .Net runtime will work for us. We've looked at running C#, PowerShell, VB.Net, IronPython, etc. I've also taken a brief look at Lua and F#, but honestly the language isn't the biggest barrier here. Now, for the hard part that seems to keep getting me stuck. We want a code editor, and debugger. Something simple, not unlike PowerShell's ISE would be fine. Just as long as a file could be created, saved, debugged and executed. I'm currently looking into Visual Studio 2010 Shell (Isolated) and I'm also looking at the feasibility of embedding PowerShell ISE in my application. Are there any other editor's I could embed/use in my application? Purchasing a product is not out of the question. It comes down to a combination of ease of use, how well it meets our needs, and how simple deployment and licensing is for developers. Thanks for the pointers

• Silverlight Not Rendering On Navigation

  I'm trying to create a site that requires login. Its entirely designed in silverlight. So my first page, home.xaml loads in mysite.aspx and it basically has a login page. AFter login, the user is redirected to another page user.aspx. in that page, i've embedded another silverlight control called nav.xaml. so now when user.aspx loads it is supposed to load a silverlight control. i've programmed app.xaml.vb such that it loads nav.xaml in the rootlayout when the page requesting is user.aspx. but for some reason its not working. my app.xaml.vb code: Private Sub Application_Startup(ByVal o As Object, ByVal e As StartupEventArgs) Handles Me.Startup If e.InitParams.ContainsKey("ReqPage") Then If e.InitParams("ReqPage") = "userpage" Then Me.RootVisual = New Nav() End If Else Me.RootVisual = New Home() End If End Sub in IE, half of the nav.xaml is rendered. but in firefox nothing is rendered. so wats going on exactly? pls help!

  Hi I'm quite new to SSIS - using 2008 version. I have a job that uses a few data flow tasks. On the third one I'm getting a primary key violation on the last row that it needs to insert, but only sometimes! I'd like to ignore this problem for now and let the job continue. I have set the MaximumErrorCount property to 10 for the DataFlowTaks, the SequenceContainer and for the Package but still taks fails and this causes the package to stop. Could anyone please advise how I can get the package to ignore the error? Thanks Rob.

• How can I run an appear effect and a fade effect in scriptaculous? I need them to run in tandam so t

  Hi, Ive been fiddling with this for hours and hours and just cant get it right. First off my sites are already using Prototytpe and Scriptaculous, and to change would take a long time. Basically I am after achieving a slideshow effect similar to jQuery Cycle plugin. I have written most of it but cant get over this hurdle: I need the user to be able to press a control button which will skip the slide to which ever one they have picked. My problem is that if a fade / appear effect is running, then it causes an overlap. I am using queues and they are in their own scope. The problem as I see it is that the fade effect on one slide and the appear effect on the next slide are separate functions. Which means that if the user clicks the control button to move to another slide whilst the animation is inbetween fade & appear, then the next cycle will slot itself in the queue between those 2 effects. The default is to append to the end of the existing queue, which should be fine. But if the appear hasnt been added when a new fade is instantiated, then the queue messes up. I can make it so nothing happens if animation is in effect but thats not the effect I am after. I want to be able to click a slide and whatever is happening to effectively stop and the next slide appear. • Firefox not honoring must-revalidate cache headers returned by jQuery.ajax() request

  UPDATE 1: Judging by this thread I am not the only one having this problem in FF 12 and only in 12. UPDATE 2: The problem does not seem to be limited to Ajax requests. From the looks of it everything that makes it into Firefox 12's cache will be fetched from there. No matter what. The server can specify cache control headers all day long. Bummer! What I'm trying to achieve is the following behavior: Browser may cache the response without revalidating for up to 5 minutes I don't care if the browser revalidates on every request (Both Chrome and IE9 do for example) When the expiration is up the browser MUST revalidate (which in my case will result in fresh data) Chrome and IE9 exhibit the desired behavior when issuing a jquery.ajax() request with ifModified: true and cache: true while Firefox 12 never revalidates, which poses a serious problem. • Instantaneous frequency not plotting correctly in Matlab

  I'm trying to convert square wave data to instantaneous frequency and plot against time. It works correctly for one data set, but three others are plotting as shown in the image: http://i.imgur.com/iuL648o.png Time is linear, so it shouldn't be plotting like that. Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? • How to handle 30k files in a project which requires them?

  Visual Studio 2010 RC - Silverlight Application We have a library of images that we need to have access to. They are given to us from a vendor (through an installer) and they are not in a database, they are files in a folder (a very large monster of a folder). We do not control when the images change, so the vendor needs to be able to override them individually. We get updates frequently enough from this vendor to state that these images change "randomly" and without our (programmer) knowledge. The problem: I don't want 30K images in SVN. Heck, I don't even want to imagine them in my Solution. However, our application requires them in order to run properly. So, our build/staging servers need access to these images (we have two build servers). The Question: How would you handle it when your application will not work as specified without access to each of 30k images and you don't control when those images change? I'm do not want to have a crazy large SVN repository. Because I don't know when any of these images change, I really don't want them in my solution (definitely do not want a large solution, either). I also don't want a bunch of manual steps to do every time these images change. Our mantra, up to this point, has always been, any developer could download from SVN, compile and run our app. These images are going to kill that mantra. I'm tempted to make a WCF service that will return images if they exist and a dummy image if they don't. This way all dev boxes will return a dummy image and our build/staging/production boxes will return real images (ones that actually have the vendor's image installer installed on). This has to be a solved problem. What have other people done to handle these types of problems? I'm open to suggestions.

• [IE6] Cannot upload non-existent file

So, I'd like to ask you guys this question again. I have type=input in my form, and a submit button. If I type garbage input into the textbox (like the text "abc") in the file control's textbox, and click the submit button, the form is not submitted to the server. AND, no feedback is given to the user. Instead of this "Is-the-submit-button-broken?" behavior, is there a way I could notify the user that the file does not exist? (I am aware this is not possible, except with ActiveX, but I don't want to go into that) My client wants to hide the textbox of the file control, but I'm not sure if this is a good design. What do you guys suggest? (If it makes any difference, I am also using this jquery plugin: http://www.fyneworks.com/jquery/multiple-file-upload/)

• Textblock doesnt get updated when rendered in memory?

• How to get TextWidth of string (without Canvas)?

  Hi, I would like to get text width of a string before an application starts. Everything works fine untill Application.MainForm canvas present. The problem is, when I try dynamicaly create TOrdinarium in the OnCreate event of the app. main form, "Canvas does not allow drawing" error occures. (Application.MainForm is nil....). I tried several ways to create Canvas dynamicaly (one of them is written below), but it can not measure text sizes without being attached to parented control. Is there way how to make it work somehow? • IE textarea wrap bug?

  It seems that IE starting from IE7 to IE10 wraps text in the textarea control incorrectly when using \n (or \r\n - doesn't matter - results are the same). Is this a bug in IE or they treat the html standard differently than other browsers - who is right? I have defined: <textarea id="TextArea1" runat="server" style="width: 190px; height: 390px; white-space: normal; word-wrap: normal; overflow: scroll" ></textarea> When I try to add long string like "VeryLongStringEndingWithNewLine\n" by using JavaScript code (obj.value += text;) the text is shown in one line with scroll (this is ok) but added with an additional empty line (\r\n) - why? When I try to add short string like "Short\n" multiple times, again via JavaScript code the text is on the same line (should be on the separate lines because normal wrapping should be applied). Moreover when I do postback then all \r\n's are replaced with spaces (why?) and then text parsed correctly (assuming if I used spaces instead of crlf normal wraping with space only wraps when does not fit in the area). When using FF or Chrome same control behaves correctly - long lines are shown without an additional empty next line, short lines are on the different lines, no replacement with spaces when doing postback. I know I could probably use other options or white space characters, but I feel that above is not correct about IE. Any comments? Mindaugas

  Hi everybody) I'm using Unity App Block for my project (version 1.2.0.0). I have a problem with Unity Container BuildUp method which I'm using for my ascx controls. Resolve method works fine for IStock with the same container and configuration. I've tried buildup with simple test class with only one property IStock and got the same result. So what can be wrong with buildup?

Standard project types will be added to the platform by default. The project type defines the way in which the different software will be executed and their input and output files. The user can customize the available standard project type and that will be added to the platform as new project type which defines new custom execution flow. Also it should support easy extension and customization of the features. I read that plug-in based architecture supports both. What are the advantages and disadvantages of plug-in based architecture? • Connection: Keep-Alive and PHP sessions not working

  We have a VB application that needs to run an specific flow on a PHP page. This application was correctly catching the PHPSESSID cookie and using it for all subsequent requests. However, PHP wasn't able to restore any changes made on $_SESSION variable. The variable was changed, saved, and on the next request it was restored as an empty array. We found out that changing the Connection header from "Keep-Alive" to "Close" fixed the issue. I couldn't find anything on the web saying that PHP sessions shouldn't be restored under Keep-Alive connections. Does anyone know why this was happening? PS: We didn't find anything weird or different on Apache, ModSecurity or PHP configuration settings.

• I want to prevent ASP.NET GridView from reacting to the enter button

  I have an ASP.NET page with a gridview control on it with a CommandButton column with delete and select commands active. Pressing the enter key causes the first command button in the gridview to fire, which deletes a row. I don't want this to happen. Can I change the gridview control in a way that it does not react anymore to pressing the enter key? There is a textbox and button on the screen as well. They don't need to be responsive to hitting enter, but you must be able to fill in the textbox. Currently we popup a confirmation dialog to prevent accidental deletes, but we need something better than this. • How can you setup multiple WSGI apps on one server?

  I'm working on a python based server product where a user can install WSGI-based python apps on their server. I can enforce any restriction on the application structure or format to make this easy. The user workflow would be: browse an app market, showing a list of WSGIpython apps select an app and choose "install" the app would be downloaded from a remote server to the user's server the http server would then have to be configured to start serving that application from the app's id, ex. a blog app with an id of "blog" at "/blog/", so all requests below /blog/ would be seen as root by the blog application. Any suggestions on how to set something like this up? Holler if my flow of consciousness lost you ;)

  Okay i have a custom server control that has some autocomplete settings, i have this as follows and it works fine. /// <summary> /// Auto complete settings /// </summary> [System.ComponentModel.DesignerSerializationVisibility (System.ComponentModel.DesignerSerializationVisibility.Content), PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty), Category("Data"), Description("Auto complete settings"), NotifyParentProperty(true)] public AutoCompleteLookupSettings AutoComplete { private set; get; } I also have a ParameterCollection that is really related to the auto complete settings, currently this collection resides off the control itself like so : /// <summary> /// Parameters for any data lookups /// </summary> [System.ComponentModel.DesignerSerializationVisibility(System.ComponentModel.DesignerSerializationVisibility.Content), PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] public ParameterCollection Parameters { get; set; } What i would like to do is move the parameter collection inside of the AutoCompleteSettings as it really relates to my autocomplete, i have tried this but to no avail..
