• SFTP over double server hop

  I'm trying to work out a method to allow me to access files on an SFTP server than I cannot access from my local machine. Currently, I have to SSH to a remote server (it is in a certain IP block that the final SFTP server will accept from), then from there SFTP to the destination server. From there, I get the files I am interested in, thereby dropping them onto the middleman server, from which I can get the files either over a Samba share or with a direct scp. I also work in the reverse, where I drop the files onto the middleman, SSH to it then SFTP to the destination and put them into the appropriate folders. My goal is to shorten this. The unfortunate restrictions are that my machine is Windows (I use KiTTy and/or Cygwin) and I cannot modify the middleman server (or destination server) in any way. I am willing to use command line or GUI programs so long as it works and is free. Any ideas?

  Is there a way to have VIM do incremental search on text files? Vim already does incremental search within the currently open file. Examples of programs that demonstrate the type of search I'm trying to accomplish are Notational Velocity for MacOS, Resop for windows or SimpleNote for the web. These apps do an instant or incremental search in the files of a specific directory and make it easy/fast to narrow down the file you are looking for or create a new file. I use both but would rather live in one editor.(that being VIM) Is there some plug in that would do this?

  My Qt application uses Q_ASSERT_X, which calls qFatal(), which (by default) aborts the application. That's great for the application, but I'd like to suppress that behavior when unit testing the application. (I'm using the Google Test Framework.) I have by unit tests in a separate project, statically linking to the class I'm testing. The documentation for qFatal() reads: Calls the message handler with the fatal message msg. If no message handler has been installed, the message is printed to stderr. Under Windows, the message is sent to the debugger. If you are using the default message handler this function will abort on Unix systems to create a core dump. On Windows, for debug builds, this function will report a _CRT_ERROR enabling you to connect a debugger to the application. ... To supress the output at runtime, install your own message handler with qInstallMsgHandler(). • WCF service not working after program update

  I have recently added a WCF service reference to my program. When I perform a clean install of this program, everything seems to work as expected. But, when I install the program on a client which already has a previous version (without the new service reference) installed, I get a exception telling me the default endpoint for this particular service could not be found. It seems that the appname.exe.config is not being updated with the new endpoint settings. Is there any reason for this and how can I force the installer to overwrite the config file? I'm using the default Visual Studio 2008 installer project with RemovePreviousVersions set to True.   I am looking for a good windows 7 software to free up RAM memory on my PC... i tried some ones I found on google but they were bad stuff... with viruses, spamware etc... i want a free clean professional software, if you don't know a good one thats free, please recommend a payed version. Also other tips/software to speed up my pc(on win7- 64bit) and such utilities. Also software to measure temperature would be great... If you can make a "must have" list of such software... • Programmatically change the icon of the executable

  I am developing an application called WeatherBar. Its main functionality is based on its interaction with the Windows 7 taskbar — it changes the icon depending on the weather conditions in a specific location. The icons I am using in the application are all stored in a compiled native resource file (.res) — I am using it instead of the embedded resource manifest for icons only. By default, I modify the Icon property of the main form to change the icons accordingly and it works fine, as long as the icon is not pinned to the taskbar. When it gets pinned, the icon in the taskbar automatically switches to the default one for the executable (with index 0 in the resource file). After doing a little bit of research, I figured that a way to change the icon would be changing the shortcut icon (as all pinned applications are actually shortcuts stored in the user folder). But it didn't work. I assume that I need to change the icon for the executable, and therefore use UpdateResource, but I am not entirely sure about this. My executable is not digitally signed, so it shouldn't be an issue modifying it. What would be the way to solve this issue?

• Populate table fields on query execution

  I'm trying to build an ASP site that populates a Table based on the results of a selection in a ListBox. In order to do this, I've created a GridView table inside a div element. Currently the default behavior is to show all the items in the specified table in sortable order. However, I'd like to refine this further to allow for display of matches based on the results from the ListBox selection, but am not sure how to execute this. • qTip pop ups come in from top left of screen (on first load)

  Hi, not sure if i'm set things up incorrectly - I don't seem to see anyone else with this problem, but my qTip popups (all ajax loaded content) are loading quite erratically, in that they are often animating in from off screen before appearing in the correct position.   I'm using MooTools 1.4.5 and I want to change cursor before calling function that takes some time and after finished same function set cursor to default. I was not successful. After that I made simple example to change background color via plain JavaScript (no jQuery or MooTools plugin) and again I was not successful. Only last changing style is affected. I need something like that to change pointer before calling function that takes 10 seconds and setting cursor to default value after function is done.

• Where does truecrypt store the backup volume header?

  When using WDE, where does (if anywhere) truecrypt store a backup volume header? As i know there is always a backup header for regular truecrypt volumes, however i am not sure if this applies when system encryption is used. Because if i damage the volume header in track 0, my password won't boot my system anymore. So there is no backup header on the drive? I read somewhere on a forum that truecrypt might have a backup header relative to some position from the END of the HDD, however this doesn't make sense as it could easily be wiped over by programs running in Windows. And how would truecrypt know where this backup is anyway?

  I am currently interested in switching from vim to emacs. One of the more compelling reasons for this is the smooth integration with a unix environment. The most experienced emacs users I have seen have a bash prompt at the bottom of their window, with stdout going to a buffer right above it. They then interact with the output of programs such as grep in interesting ways. I am on Ubuntu 10.04 and the default emacs environment does not seem to do much for me in the way of integration. For example, in the M-x shell mode, output from basic commands like ls produce lots of strange characters and hitting the up arrow does not go to previous commands. Any recommendations on a good direction to go in?

  Hi, hoping to get some help with this query, I've worked at it for a while now and can't get it any faster: SELECT date, count(id) as 'visits' FROM dates LEFT OUTER JOIN visits ON (dates.date = DATE(visits.start) and account_id = 40 ) WHERE date >= '2010-12-13' AND date <= '2011-1-13' GROUP BY date ORDER BY date ASC That query takes about 8 seconds to run. I've added indexes on dates.date, visits.start, visits.account_id and visits.start+visits.account_id and can't get it to run any faster. Table structure (only showing relevant columns in visit table): create table visits ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `account_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `start` DATETIME NOT NULL, `end` DATETIME NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8; CREATE TABLE `dates` ( `date` date NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`date`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; dates table contains all days from 2010-1-1 to 2020-1-1 (~3k rows). visits table contains about 400k rows dating from 2010-6-1 to yesterday. • I can't open a Word file because it's too large

  I was creating a file with MS Word 2007 where I included a number of images. I didn't compress them as I was putting them into the file. I managed to save the file, but have not been able to reopen it ever since, as it says that I have exceeded the 32 MB limit. I am working on an old Macbook (OS X 10.4.11). I have tried to open the file in both OpenOffice and LibreOffice, but it just causes those programs to crash. Is there any way of reducing the file size without opening the document?

• Failing RAM, or something else? [closed]

  I have a IBM Thinkpad T43, currently running Windows XP. Programs were crashing, XP was blue-screen-of-deathing, (more than usual) - it was basically unusable, but I couldn't get any informative error out of XP. I booted Ubuntu off a thumbdrive, which made it to the desktop, but as soon as I started to try to do anything, X segfaulted, along with several other services, followed quickly by kernel warnings and a kernel panic. I'm currently running Memtest86+ on this machine, which is spitting out numerous errors. (16k over 3 passes, and counting) The failing areas are numerous, and look something like this: 0001055da4 - XX.X MB, etc. The addresses that fail seem to cluster around 0-20 MB, 250MB, and, more rarely, 750MB, 1000MB, and 1200MB. However, a lot (but not all) of the failing addresses that I've seen end in XXXXXXX?da4 where the ? is a 1 or a 5. The machine has two sticks of RAM, one 512MB, one 1024 MB, the 512MB mapped to the lower addresses, the 1024 MB stick following. Is this indeed RAM failure, or should I consider other things before purchasing more RAM?

• Can't copy paste on the first try

  When I try to copy and paste something from firefox to say notepad or word, it doesn't work on the first try. That is I go to firefox, select text, right click, select copy, then switch to notepad, right click, select paste, but it pastes not the thing which I copied just now, but whatever was in the clipboard before I copied. If after this I go back to firefox and copy that text again, and then go back to notepad, then it will paste correctly. So in order to copy paste something it takes me 2 tries. This doesn't always happen this way, but only sometimes. So sometimes I can paste on first try, but sometimes it takes me two tries. I am using firefox 7.0.1 and windows 7. Also it is not only with firefox, sometimes the same thing happens when I copy paste from other programs. What could be the reason, and how can I fix this?

• Converting string to a simple type

  .Net framework contains a great class named Convert that allows conversion between simple types, DateTime type and String type. Also the class support conversion of the types implementing IConvertible interface. The class has been implemented in the very first version of .Net framework. There were a few things in the first .Net framework that were not done quite right. For example .Parse methods on simple types would throw an exception if the string couldn't be parsed and there would be no way to check if exception is going to be thrown in advance. A future version of .Net Framework removed this deficiency by introducing the TryParse method that resolved this problem. The Convert class dates back to time of the old Parse method, so the ChangeType method on this class in implemented old style - if conversion can't be performed an exception is thrown. Take a look at the following code: public static T ConvertString<T>(string s, T @default) { try { return (T)Convert.ChangeType(s, typeof(T), CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); } catch (Exception) { return @default; } } This code basically does what I want. However I would pretty much like to avoid the ugly try/catch here. I'm sure, that similar to TryParse, there is a modern method of rewriting this code without the catch-all. Could you suggest one?

  On Linux the ssh command has a -t option whose man page reads: Force pseudo-tty allocation. This can be used to execute arbitrary screen-based programs on a remote machine, which can be very useful, e.g. when implementing menu services. Multiple -t options force tty allocate, even if ssh has no local tty. I would like to use this same option with PuTTY on Windows. In particular, I can see that PuTTY has a bunch of options under: Category - Connection - SSH - TTY and suspect it might be possible to achieve the same behavior via some of the (NUMEROUS!) settings found on this screen. • Problems with Window Functions Wndproc and about

  I really having problems with this problem ,it would be nice if someone help me on this. Every time I try to build my source file the same errors occur every time for the two window functions CALLBACK Wndproc and CALLBACK About. error: "local function definitions are illegal" Can you tell me what mistake I made?
