  • NSURLConnection not "firing" until UITableView scrolls..

    - by Simon
Hi, I've got a UITableView that loads an image asynchronously and places it in the UITableViewCell once it's loaded (I'm using almost the exact same code as in the "LazyTableImages" tutorial). This works fine for all images when I scroll the table, but it's not loading the images that are first in the view. The code is definitely working fine as the class that actually sends the NSURLConnection request is being called correctly (I added an NSLog and it reached the console). The NSURLConnection is just not calling the delegate methods (didReceiveData, connectionDidFinishLoading, etc). Here's my code: HomeController.m - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; NSArray *feed = [feeds objectAtIndex: indexPath.row]; /** * Name of person */ [...] /** * Feed entry */ [...] /** * Misc work */ [...] } FeedRecord *feedRecord = [self.entries objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; if( !feedRecord.image ) { if (self.table.dragging == NO && self.table.decelerating == NO) { [self startIconDownload:feedRecord forIndexPath:indexPath]; } cell.imageView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"Placeholder.png"]; } return cell; } - (void)startIconDownload:(FeedRecord *)feedRecord forIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { IconDownloader *iconDownloader = [imageDownloadsInProgress objectForKey:indexPath]; if (iconDownloader == nil) { iconDownloader = [[IconDownloader alloc] init]; iconDownloader.feedRecord = feedRecord; iconDownloader.indexPathInTableView = indexPath; iconDownloader.delegate = self; [imageDownloadsInProgress setObject:iconDownloader forKey:indexPath]; [iconDownloader startDownload]; [iconDownloader release]; } } IconDownload.m #import "IconDownloader.h" #import "FeedRecord.h" #define kAppIconHeight 48 @implementation IconDownloader @synthesize feedRecord; @synthesize indexPathInTableView; @synthesize delegate; @synthesize activeDownload; @synthesize imageConnection; #pragma mark - (void)dealloc { [feedRecord release]; [indexPathInTableView release]; [activeDownload release]; [imageConnection cancel]; [imageConnection release]; [super dealloc]; } - (void)startDownload { NSLog(@"%@ %@",@"Started downloading", feedRecord.profilePicture); // this shows in log self.activeDownload = [NSMutableData data]; // alloc+init and start an NSURLConnection; release on completion/failure NSURLConnection *conn = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest: [NSURLRequest requestWithURL: [NSURL URLWithString:feedRecord.profilePicture]] delegate:self]; self.imageConnection = conn; NSLog(@"%@",conn); // this shows in log [conn release]; } - (void)cancelDownload { [self.imageConnection cancel]; self.imageConnection = nil; self.activeDownload = nil; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Download support (NSURLConnectionDelegate) - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data { NSLog(@"%@ %@",@"Got data for", feedRecord.profilePicture); [self.activeDownload appendData:data]; } - (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)error { NSLog(@"%@",@"Fail!"); // Clear the activeDownload property to allow later attempts self.activeDownload = nil; // Release the connection now that it's finished self.imageConnection = nil; } - (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { NSLog(@"%@ %@",@"Done", feedRecord.profilePicture); // Set appIcon and clear temporary data/image UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:self.activeDownload]; self.feedRecord.image = image; self.activeDownload = nil; [image release]; // Release the connection now that it's finished self.imageConnection = nil; NSLog(@"%@ %@",@"Our delegate is",delegate); // call our delegate and tell it that our icon is ready for display [delegate feedImageDidLoad:self.indexPathInTableView]; } @end Has anyone else experienced anything like this or can identify an issue with my code? Thanks!

  • Using malloc/free in Objective-C object

    - by Itamar Katz
I have a class AudioManager with a member of type AudioBufferList *. (This is a struct declared in the CoreAudio framework). Since AudioBufferList is not a NSObject, I cannot retain it, so I have to alloc/free it (correct me if I'm wrong). My question is, where is the 'right' place to free it? Currently I am doing it in the dealloc method of AudioManager. If I understand correctly, this method is invoked automatically once the release message is sent to the instance of AudioManager --- is that true? Is there any other recommended practice regarding using alloc/free on non-objects members of Objective-C objects? Edit: From Apples documentation: Subclasses must implement their own versions of dealloc to allow the release of any additional memory consumed by the object—such as dynamically allocated storage for data or object instance variables owned by the deallocated object. After performing the class-specific deallocation, the subclass method should incorporate superclass versions of dealloc through a message to super: Which makes things a little bit clearer - but more insights are appreciated.

  • Subview position issue after UIOrientation (rotation) change

    - by asadqamber
I have a viewController and have added a subview in it programatically. secondView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth; [self.view addSubview:secondView]; I guess when the device rotates, my mainViewController knows that orientation changed, but the subview (secondView) inside the mainViewController does not know this, so I change its frame to landscape size in willRotateToInterfaceOrientation. secondView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 480 , 260); This does not set in the correct position, it's 11 px below the NavigationBar. Why does it start from 11 px below the navigation bar? The navigation bar shrinks when we move from portrait to landscape mode and its because of this that my subview is 11px below.

  • Adding UIView animation mysteriously changes starting frame

    - by clozach
I'm working on an app that shows a thumbnail of a photo taken by the user. In order to show a seemless transition from the full-screen image shown in the UIImagePickerController to the thumbnail, I set the frame on my copy of the image to [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds] and then change the frame to match the frame of an invisible button. (The button allows users to re-take their photo by tapping the thumbnail image.) The trouble is that the starting x-origin of my UIImageView (imageView) is mysteriously starting nearly offscreen to the left: As you can see from the alert, the imageView purports to be located at (0,0), yet it's displaying at something like (-255,0). Here's the code: CGRect frame = [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]; imageView.frame = frame; [[[[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Yo!" message:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"starting frame:%@",NSStringFromCGRect(imageView.frame)] delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"K." otherButtonTitles:nil] autorelease] show]; // Slide the enlarged image seamlessly "onto" the photo button [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1000]; [UIView setAnimationDelay:.5]; imageView.frame = pictureButton.frame; [UIView commitAnimations]; As if to taunt me, the image actually does go full screen if I comment out the animation code: CGRect frame = [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]; imageView.frame = frame; [[[[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Yo!" message:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"starting frame:%@",NSStringFromCGRect(imageView.frame)] delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"K." otherButtonTitles:nil] autorelease] show]; // Slide the enlarged image seamlessly "onto" the photo button // [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; // [UIView setAnimationDuration:1000]; // [UIView setAnimationDelay:.5]; // // imageView.frame = pictureButton.frame; // // [UIView commitAnimations]; (Note: animationDuration will of course be set to something more like .5 in production, not 1000 seconds.) Update — Other weirdness worth mentioning in case it's relevant: It turns out the offset changes depending on the orientation of the camera when the photo was taken. If I take the picture with the phone upside-down, for instance, then the image gets offset vertically as well as horizontally. The picker seems to be filling the image's imageOrientation incorrectly: I have to hold the phone sideways, Home button on the left, to get an image with UIImageOrientationUp. At one point I experimented with setting imageView.clipsToBounds = YES;, which revealed that my image view's frame is in fact correct. Rather, it's the UIImage's placement within the UIImageView that gets offset. Fwiw, the image view's contentMode is the default, UIViewContentModeScaleToFill.

  • How do I set an Array in one class with another array in another class in Objective-C

    - by Stef
Hi Guys, I've populated and array with data like this in one class... PowerClass .h NSMutableArray pickerArray; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray pickerArray; - PowerClass .m @synthesize pickerArray; @implementation NSMutableArray *array = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:@"stef", @"steve", @"baddamans", @"jonny", nil]; pickerArray = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:array]; And I'm trying to set the Array in another class WeekClass .h PowerClass *powerClass; NSMutableArray *pickerData; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray pickerData; @property (nonatomic, retain) PowerClass *powerClass; WeekClass .m @implementation pickerData = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:powerClass.pickerArray]; I have no errors or warnings. It just crashes. The NSLog says that the powerClass.PickerArray is Null... I don't know why this is... Please help point me in the right direction... Thanx guys Stef :-)

  • Clipped UITextField with UITextFieldAlignmentRight

    - by Typeoneerror
    Got a small problem with UITextField. I have a simple UITextField and when I set the textAlignment property to "right", it gets clipped by 1-2 pixels. It looks shite so I'm hoping someone has an idea of how to remedy this. I've tried setting the frame to integers to prevent them from being on .5 pixels. - (UITextField *)textControlForSetting:(NSDictionary *)settings { CGRect frame = CGRectIntegral(CGRectMake(100.0f, 0.0f, 170.0f, 44.0f)); UITextField *textField = [[[UITextField alloc] initWithFrame:frame] autorelease]; NSString *defaultValue = [settings objectForKey:kDefaultValueKey]; NSString *currentValue = [prefs objectForKey:[settings objectForKey:kSettingKey]]; textField.tag = settingsCounter; textField.delegate = self; textField.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentRight; textField.font = [UIFont fontWithName:@"HelveticaNeue" size:14.0f]; textField.contentVerticalAlignment = UIControlContentVerticalAlignmentCenter; textField.placeholder = (currentValue != nil) ? currentValue : defaultValue; settingsCounter++; return textField; }

  • UITableView and SearchBar problem

    - by dododedodonl
Hi all, I'm trying to add a Search bar to my UITableView. I followed this tutorial: http://clingingtoideas.blogspot.com/2010/02/uitableview-how-to-part-2-search.html. I'm getting this error if I type a letter in the search box: Rooster(10787,0xa05ed4e0) malloc: *** error for object 0x3b5f160: double free *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug. This error occurs here: - (BOOL)searchDisplayController:(UISearchDisplayController *)controller shouldReloadTableForSearchString:(NSString *)searchString { [self handleSearchForTerm:searchString]; return YES; } (on the second line) - (void)handleSearchForTerm:(NSString *)searchTerm { [self setSavedSearchTerm:searchTerm]; if ([self searchResults] == nil) { NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [self setSearchResults:array]; [array release]; } //Empty the searchResults array [[self searchResults] removeAllObjects]; //Check if the searchTerm doesn't equal zero... if ([[self savedSearchTerm] length] != 0) { //Search the whole tableList (datasource) for (NSString *currentString in tableList) { NSString *klasString = [[NSString alloc] init]; NSInteger i = [[leerlingNaarKlasList objectAtIndex:[tableList indexOfObject:currentString]] integerValue]; if(i != -1) { klasString = [klassenList objectAtIndex:(i - 1)]; } //Check if the string matched or the klas (group of school) if ([currentString rangeOfString:searchTerm options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch].location != NSNotFound || [klasString rangeOfString:searchTerm options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch].location != NSNotFound) { //Add to results [[self searchResults] addObject:currentString]; //Save the klas (group of school). It has the same index as the result (lastname) NSString *strI = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%i", i]; [[self searchResultsLeerlingNaarKlas] addObject:strI]; [strI release]; } [klasString release]; } } } Can someone help me out? • [self autorelease] not doing dealloc

    - by jonydep
i have this in the superview: mySubView = [[MySubView alloc] init]; [self addSubview:mySubView]; [mySubView release]; then at some point later, in the sub view, this: [self removeFromSuperview]; when i debug it, i notice that the dealloc for the subview is never called, even though i'm fairly sure the reference count should be 0. any ideas why this might be? thanks.

  • UITableview titleForHeaderInSection not displaying correctly

    - by mjdth
I have some VERY simple code to return the title for a section header: - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { if (section==0) { return @""; } else if (section==1) { return @"Actions"; } else if (section==2) { return @"Attached To"; } return @""; } For some reason when the headers are actually displayed on the simulator, half of the time they're simply the first letter and then ellipses. Scrolling up and down (to refresh the header view most likely) will result in the title showing correctly roughly half the time and showing incorrectly the other half of the time. Do anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I think this is more of a recent development, but it seems to happen in almost all UITableViews in my application. I don't want to say this is a 3.2 issue, but it might have started happening around then, but either way it must be related to the code somehow. Thank you.

  • CFNetwork / NSURLConnection leak

    - by JK
Running instruments on the device, I intermittently incur a memory leak of exactly 3.5 KB in CFNetwork, the responsible frame being "HostLookup_Master::HostLookup...." I have read a number of questions re this issue and have separately tried the following to fix the leak: Included the following in applicationDidFinishLaunching: NSURLCache *sharedCache = [[NSURLCache alloc] initWithMemoryCapacity:0 diskCapacity:0 diskPath:nil]; [NSURLCache setSharedURLCache:sharedCache]; [sharedCache release]; Specified in the urlrequest not to load from the local cache. None of the above worked. My class that instantiates the connections does not leak as its instances are released when data has been downloaded. I have verified this by confirming the the living objects of the class is 0 using Instruments. Any advice on addressing this leak would be greatly appreciated.

  • Using mergedModelFromBundles: and versioning (CoreData)

    - by charlax
Hi everybody, I'm trying to use the migration feature in CoreData. I've followed the Apple Documentation. I have a problem in the following method: /** Returns the managed object model for the application. If the model doesn't already exist, it is created by merging all of the models found in the application bundle. */ - (NSManagedObjectModel *)managedObjectModel { if (managedObjectModel != nil) { return managedObjectModel; } /* * NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: attempt to insert nil' * 2010-02-17 16:27:15.338 Patrimoine[3037:207] */ managedObjectModel = [[NSManagedObjectModel mergedModelFromBundles:nil] retain]; return managedObjectModel; } It appears that there is the same problem on http://iphonedevelopment.blogspot.com/2009/09/core-data-migration-problems.html Yet I did choose the method Apple suggests, by using the menu option "Add Model Version". Do you have any idea?

  • presentModalViewController does not want to work when called from a protocol method

    - by johnbdh
I have a subview that when double tapped a protocol method on the subview's parent view controller is called like this... - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *theTouch = [touches anyObject]; if (theTouch.tapCount == 1) { } else if (theTouch.tapCount == 2) { if ([self.delegate respondsToSelector:@selector(editEvent:)]) { [self.delegate editEvent:dictionary]; } } } Here is the protocol method with the dictionary consuming code removed... - (void)editEvent:(NSDictionary){ EventEditViewController *eventEditViewController = [[EventEditViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"EventEditViewController" bundle:nil]; eventEditViewController.delegate = self; navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:eventEditViewController]; [self presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:YES]; [eventEditViewController release]; } The protocol method is called and runs without any errors but the modal view does not present itself. I temporarily copied the protocol method's code to an IBAction method for one of the parent's view button's to isolate it from the subview. When I tap this button the modal view works fine. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Why does it work when executed from a button on the parent view, and not from a protocol method called from a subview. Here is what I have tried so far to work around the problem... Restarted xCode and the simulator Ran on the device (iTouch) Presenting eventEditViewController instead of navigationController Using Push instead of presentModal. delaying the call to the protocol with performSelector directly to the protocol, to another method in the subview which calls the protocol method, from the protocol method to another method with the presentModal calls. Using a timer. I have it currently setup so that the protocol method calls a known working method that presents a different view. Before calling presentModalViewController it pops a UIAlertView which works every time, but the modal view refuses to display when called via the protocol method. I'm stumped. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I am calling the protocol method from a UIView class instead of a UIViewController class. Maybe I need to create a UIViewController for the subView?? Thanks, John

  • Record AVAudioPlayer output using AVAudioRecorder

    - by Kieran
In my app the user plays a sound by pressing a button. There are several buttons which can be played simultaneously. The sounds are played using AVAudioPlayer instances. I want to record the output of these instances using AVAudioRecorder. I have set it all up and a file is created and records but when I play it back it does not play any sound. It is just a silent file the length of the recording. Does anyone know if there is a setting I am missing with AVAudioPlayer or AVAudioRecorder? Thanks

I've tried several different paths so I'm fairly certain that is not the problem. Thanks for any advice!

  • Outline view from UITableView

    - by Raj
Hi guys, I need to implement a 1 level outline view out of UITableView. The cells which have children in them will have a '+' symbol and if user taps on it, the cells below it should slide down and the children cells of current selected row should appear. The sliding of cells should be visible and if the user taps '-' button of the already expanded row, the children cells should slide back into the parent. I have tried googling but did not find any pointers. How should I start, should I subclass UITableView? Or should I implement my own view sub-class and handle all the stuff there? I somehow feel it would be easier to sub-class UITableView because it will handle all the row selection for us, but I cannot figure out how to do it. Thanks and Regards, Raj
