• What is your experience with Nitrogen on Erlang?

  I've been checking out the Nitrogen Project which is supposed to be the most mature web development framework for Erlang. Erlang, as a language, is extremely impressive. However, with regards to Nitrogen, what I am not too keen about is using Erlang's rather uncommon syntax (unless you're native in PROLOG) to build UIs. What is your experience with it as opposed to other mainstream web frameworks such as Django or Rails?

  Hi, I am working on the Facebook Connect feature for a Ruby on Rails website. I noticed that FB doesn't provide the user's email unless you demand extended permissions. • Are there reasons why the java/spring/hibernate stack aren't popular in the web 2.0 space?

  I am really impressed with the java/spring/hibernate stack, and really want to dive in. Just curious, why are so many people using rails when java/spring/hibernate are tried and true? I guesss its because of the convention over configuration and time to launch? (spring has really gone the annotation route so less xml though). • Overwrite HTTP method with JAX-RS

  Today's browsers (or HTML < 5) only support HTTP GET and POST, but to communicate RESTful one need PUT and DELETE too. If the workaround should not be to use Ajax, something like a hidden form field is required to overwrite the actual HTTP method. Rails uses the following trick: <input name="_method" type="hidden" value="put" /> Is there a possibility to do something similar with JAX-RS?

• How do I remove sensitive files from git's history

  I would like to put a git project ( Rails app ) on github, but it contains certian files with sensitive data ( usernames and passwords, like /config/deploy.rb for capistrano ). I know I can add these filenames to .gitignore, but this would not remove the their history within git. I also don't want to start over again by deleting the /.git directory. Is there a way to remove all traces of a particular file in your git history?

  I was messing around with sendmail in Rails a year ago and have had this message popping up in the terminal after every command ever since: You have new mail in /var/mail/Lance How do I properly get rid of that so the message goes away? I ever use any of that functionality and don't have mail on my computer. There's one file in /var/mail called lance, and it's huge. Can I just remove it?

  I am getting following error while running local script/server of my rails project /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rmagick-2.13.1/lib/RMagick2.so: This installation of RMagick was configured with ImageMagick 6.6.1 but ImageMagick 6.4.5 is in use. (RuntimeError) and RMagick2.so is blank. and identify --version command shows following result Version: ImageMagick 6.6.1-10 2010-05-21 Q8 http://www.imagemagick.org So, my question is how and where should i make changes to work it fine; I had already reinstall ImageMagick but didnt work for me, so any suggestions Thanks in advance
