  • Is there a simple PHP development server?

    When writing web apps in Python, it brain dead easy to run a development server. Django and Google App Engine both ship with simple servers. The main feature I'm looking for is no configuration. I want something like the GAE dev server where you just pass the directory of the app as a parameter when the server is started. Is there a reason that this is more difficult with PHP?

  • "Share this on..." URLs

    I have to create a bunch of these "Share this on" Technorati, Digg, Facebook, Reddit, del.icio.us, StumbleUpon, MySpace and so on. It is very easy to find online icons for this task, but it is a little more difficult to find what URLs I should link. Is there any updated list of all these services? Of course I could copy them from other sites having this, but I am not sure they are updated, and moreover maybe there is some GET parameter I want to set differently.

  • find: What's up with basename and dirname?

    I'm using find for a task and I noticed that when I do something like this: find `pwd` -name "file.ext" -exec echo $(dirname {}) \; it will give you dots only for each match. When you s/dirname/basename in that command you get the full pathnames. Am I screwing something up here or is this expected behavior? I'm used to basename giving you the name of the file (in this case "file.ext") and dirname giving you the rest of the path.

  • GROUP BY and SUM distinct date across 2 tables

    I'm not sure if this is possible in one mysql query so I might just combine the results via php. I have 2 tables: 'users' and 'billing' I'm trying to group summed activity for every date that is available in these two tables. 'users' is not historical data but 'billing' contains a record for each transaction. In this example I am showing a user's status which I'd like to sum for created date and deposit amounts that I would also like to sum by created date. I realize there is a bit of a disconnect between the data but I'd like to some all of it together and display it as seen below. This will show me an overview of all of the users by when they were created and what the current statuses are next to total transactions. I've tried UNION as well as LEFT JOIN but I can't seem to get either to work. Union example is pretty close but doesn't combine the dates into one row.   • How do I set up PHP profiling on Eclipse?

    I have set up Eclipse PDT on Galileo. I'm able to run and debug PHP sites that are set up on XAMPP. The thing is, I want to profile one of the sites, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to set this up. There is a profiling menu when I right-click the PHP project, but no indication of how to proceed from there. BTW I'm using Xdebug as the debug engine.

    When user opens a form to modify a record, but instead of changing information, he just clicks the Update button. Which causes the update() function to return 0. However, I consider this case a valid update task. How would I test it, so I can assign a success message? Is update() returns -1 when SQL query failed or also 0? Method: Zend_Db_Table_Abstract::update() Any ideas? Thanks

    Consider it that '_'s in a number doesn't change that number's value so 1000==1_000==10_00. The Problem: given numbers like 1_244_23 1412_2 1_1111 etc..., how could I decide whether certain number appears in that collection? For example: 1244_23 yes, 11_111 yes, 1412_1 no. How could using regex to solve this? I mean, if I could tell the regex engine just ignore these '_''s when matching then this problem becomes trivial? How could I do so?

    I'd like to run git filter-branch on all children of a given commit. This doesn't seem to be an easy task, since there doesn't appear to be a way to tell git rev-list to only return children of a particular commit. Using the .. syntax won't work because it will also include the parent commits of any merge within that range. Am I missing something here?

  • Finding existing tickets before opening new ones on trac

    We're using Trac as the task management tool at the project we work in. However, Trac search is maybe not the most intuitive search out there, and we end up having multiple duplicates as the reporters can't effectively find if there already is a reported ticket of the question he or she found. Stack Overflow's "Related Questions" concept is great and works magnificently! I was wondering if someone has heard of some similar plugin to Trac, or if you have solved this problem some other way.
