• Android SDK fails to install

  When I try to install the android SDK it fails to install. My OS is Windows XP I just downloaded and installed Java JDK 1.6 Java -version from the command line returns: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/ask java version "1.6.0_17" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing) My environment vars have: JAVA_HOME=c:\progra~1\java\jdk1.6.0_11 I downloaded android-sdk-r04-windows.zip I unziped it in V:\AndroidInstall\ When I go to the V:\androindinstall\android-sdk-windows and type "SDK Install.exe" nothing happens... If I go this from graph When I do this from a graphical file viewer I get a quick flash that looks like a command line window and nothing.... When I try to run android list targets from the tool directory I get: Error: Error parsing the sdk. Error: V:\androindinstall\android-sdk-windows\platforms is missing. Error: Unable to parse SDK content. So the basic install setup is not happening. Additional clues: I have a G1 and Android 1.0 was running on this machine. (Almost a year ago) I've updated my G1 to 1.6 so I thought I'd update my SDK before starting new development. When I tried to upgrade it tried and then died as the "directory was in use" So I cleaned out all the android directories, rebooted and redownloaded everythign from scratch. Now it won't run at all. I've clearly got something in an unhappy state, but I've cleaned up all the directories and no remanants seem to be running I've rebooted.... I've missed somethign I just can't figure out what. Paul

• Yet another Subversion "Commit failed" MERGE of 'blabla': 200 OK

  Hi! I get the infamous "MERGE of 'whatever': 200 OK" whenever I try to commit using a post-commit hook on Windows (running the repository and Trac locally), and I'm going crazy. I've been looking all over for a day now, without finding any solutions. So here's how it's set up and what I've tried so far: Settings: Windows 7 (64-bit) VisualSVN Server TortoiseSVN Trac 0.11.6 I'm using the three standard scripts for post-commit on Windows. Everything works when I run post-commit.cmd from the command prompt with repo and changesetnumber as parameters. After extensive trouble-shooting, I found that if I remove the last line in trac-post-commit.cmd, Python "%~dp0\trac-post-commit-hook.py" -p "%TRAC_ENV%" -r "%REV%" -u "%AUTHOR%" -m "%LOG%", the Commit failed error goes away. Adding 1/0 (generating a division by zero error) in the python script doesn't show anything different. From the command prompt I get an error, though. Removing all code in the python script also makes the commit failed go away, so I guess the culprit is in trac-post-commit-hook.py. • [WPF] How to register to/listen to richtextbox commando's?

  I'm creating a simple editor within our application using the WPF RichTextBox. Above it I've added the reguslar buttons like Bold, Italic, etc. These buttons use the RichTextBox's commands to set these properties, but next to these buttons, the commands also get send with CTRL+B, CTRL+I, etc. I want these buttons to represent the current state of the RichTextBox at the cursor. I already found out how to get this state and it works when I update this state on the SelectionChanged event. This event ofcourse isn't fired when Bold is toggled so there is no direct feedback. I would like to know if there is a way to listen to the commands being called, without affecting its original behaviour or some other ideas to solve my problems. I tried listening to the command the following way: CommandBinding boldBinding = new CommandBinding(EditingCommands.ToggleBold, CommandExecuted); _richTextBox.CommandBindings.Add(boldBinding); and private void CommandExecuted(object sender, ExecutedRoutedEventArgs e) { UpdateProperties(); e.Handled = false; } This did update the properties, but the RichTextBox didn't seem to receive the command anymore. I also tried to make my own commands on the control containing the RichTextBox, but when CTRL+B is pressed when the RichTextBox has focus, the original RichTextBox commands are called instead of the new one. • Can I override task :environment in test_helper.rb to test rake tasks?

  I have a series of rake tasks in a Rakefile which I'd like to test as part of my specs etc. Each task is defined in the form: task :do_somthing => :environment do # Do something with the database here end Where the :environment task sets up an ActiveRecord/DataMapper database connection and classes. I'm not using this as part of Rails but I have a series of tests which I like to run as part of BDD. This snippet illustrates how I'm trying to test the rake tasks. def setup @rake = Rake::Application.new Rake.application = @rake load File.dirname(__FILE__) + '/../../tasks/do_something.rake' end should "import data" do @rake["do_something"].invoke assert something_in_the_database end So my request for help - is it possible to over-ride the :environment task in my test_helper.rb file so I my rake testing interacts with the my test database, rather than production? I've tried redefining the task in the helper file, but this doesn't work. Any help for a solution would be great, as I've been stuck on this for the past week.

• How to Compile Mod_Python 3.3.1 for Python 2.6 and Apache 2.2 on Windows?

  I have no experience compiling code other than using Visual Studio's Build command. I am hoping we can create a step by step guide for compiling mod_python on windows. Please be as descriptive as possible. This is what I've done so far: Download and install python 2.6.2 Download and install apache 2.2.11 Download the most recent source code for mod_python from svn From here I'm lost to what the next step is. I've downloaded Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition. As mentioned by Hao I've already tried the tutorial mentioned in that link. Here is the error messages I'm receiving with that tutorial. • ItemsControl.ItemsSource MVVM perormance

  I have an (non-virtualized) ItemsControl that binds its ItemsSource to a ObeservableCollection of ViewModel instances. Now once the large amount Model instances is loaded all the ViewModel complemnents needs to be added to that ObservableCollection. How can I add a large amount of ViewModels without making the UI Thread hang? I suppose the UI Thread hangs because each time a new item is added the ItemsControl needs to update itself and does layout etc. over and over again. Should I suspend the binding add all items and then resume? If so, how? Should I override the ObservableCollection to implement an AddRange so only 1 CollectionChanged Event is fired for adding multiple items? Or alternatively just replace the whole collection? Or is it better to add each items separately and call Dispatcher.Invoke for each item separately? So I would unblock frequently. How do you handle large dynamic lists that can not be virtualized?

• LINQ-to-SQL: ExecuteQuery(Type, String) populates one field, but not the other

  I've written an app that I use as an agent to query data from a database and automatically load it into my distributed web cache. I do this by specifying an sql query and a type in a configuration. The code that actually does the querying looks like this: List<Object> result = null; try { result = dc.ExecuteQuery(elementType, entry.Command).OfType<Object>().ToList(); } catch (Exception ex) { HandleException(ex, WebCacheAgentLogEvent.DatabaseExecutionError); continue; } elementType is a System.Type created from the type specified in the configuration (using Type.GetType()), and entry.Command is the SQL query. The specific entity type I'm having an issue with looks like this: public class FooCount { [Column(Name = "foo_id")] public Int32 FooId { get; set; } [Column(Name = "count")] public Int32 Count { get; set; } } The SQL query looks like this: select foo_id as foo_id, sum(count) as [count] from foo_aggregates group by foo_id order by foo_id For some reason, when the query is executed, the "Count" property ends up populated, but not the "FooId" property. I tried running the query myself, and the correct column names are returned, and the column names match up with what I've specified in my mapping attributes. Help!

  I need a WeifenLuo replacement that'll run on both .NET and Mono, on Windows, Linux and Mac, preferrably licensed under the MIT license. I'd appreciate if the API was similar to WeifenLuo's, but I understand that such may not be available. Also, since I couldn't find anything on Google, I believe this might not exist. In this case, I'd like some hints regarding how to implement this. I have some(not much) Windows.Forms experience, and I must not use any P/Invoke. I already know out how to detect window motion and how to create a borderless translucent window on a given position and with a given size. So here are some problems I am facing: WeifenLuo supports multiple left/right/top/bottom panes, allowing them to be resized and contain more than one panel. It also supports splittable tabs. Is there anything else I should be aware of before starting? Are there similar open-source projects available?

  I created an assembly containing WCF service code and dropped into another web project. When I try to invoke a service method, I get the following inner exception: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. Why this is happening? My newly created assembly lives inside the ASP.NET /bin folder along with other assemblies. At this level, should the database not know or care whether it is being called from a web service or from a normal call? How would it know that my assembly is foreign? How do I resolve this issue?

• Invoking .Net COM assembly from Powerbuilder application (without registration)

  We have a Powerbuilder 10 application that is using .Net COM assemblies. We are trying to embed the manifest in the PB application (to invoke COM assemblies without registration). The merged manifest file has added sections for dependecies on the .Net COM assemblies. We have tries various tools to inject the new manifest with different results - using GenMan32 to inject truncates the application from 6MB to 45KB. - using ResourceTuner, the file size looks okay, but trying to launch application gives "Fatal Disk Error". Any suggestions on invoked .Net ComEnabled assembly from PB without registration?

• How to solve "catastrophic failure" with 32-bit COM component in SysWOW64\cscript or wscript

  I'm trying to run a VBScript script that uses a 7-year-old 3rd-party 32-bit COM component on Windows Server 2008 R2, with the command-line 32-bit script host, SysWOW64\cscript.exe. When I call CreateObject on the class, it appears to be successful, but the very first time I try to use a property or method (I've tried several different ones) on the object, it gives me the "catastrophic failure". I have identical results with SysWOW64\wscript.exe, except, of course, that my error message comes in a msgbox instead of the command-line window. I think this has to do specifically with the 64-bit scripting hosts because of the following: The equivalent Classic ASP script, calling the same component and using 95% of the same code, works correctly on the same server, with IIS configured to support 32-bit COM. The same VBScript works correctly on a 32-bit Windows XP machine and a 32-bit Windows Server 2003 machine. The component fails in exactly the same way on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine. My Google searches for solutions to this problem have mostly turned up a lot of different problems that were solved by putting the COM component into a toolbar in Visual Studio. Obviously, that solution doesn't apply here. My questions are: Is there a core problem that is always behind a "catastrophic failure" from a Windows scripting host calling a COM component? Is there a place in a configuration snap-in, or in the registry, where I need to make a change similar to the change I had to make to the IIS Application pool to "Enable 32-bit Applications"? Is there a general place in the Server 2008 R2 Event Viewer that I should be looking, to see if there are any more details on the failure, in case it turns out to be specific to this component? • Vim script to compile TeX source and launch PDF only if no errors

  Hi, I am switching to using Vim for for my LaTeX editing environment. I would like to be able to tex the source file from within Vim, and launch an external viewing if the compile was successful. I know about the Vim-Latex suite, but, if possible, would prefer to avoid using it: it is pretty heavy-weight, hijacks a lot of my keys, and clutters up my vimruntime with a lot of files.   Is there a way to navigate between tabs in VS similar to the emacs iswtichb-mode or Firefox ubiquity switch tab mode (https://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Ubiquity/Ubiquity_0.1_Author_Tutorial#Switching_Tabs) ? In these apps, you just type a substring of the title of the tab (or buffer for emacs) to switch to this tab. For instance, to switch to a tab named "App_Code/Data/MyProgram.cs", you just invoke the tab switching command and then type "Progr" for instance to list all the tab whose name matches this string, including "MyProgram.cs". It's much easier to switch between tabs this way when you have a lot of documents open and when you now where to go (which is the case in most situation) Thank you !

  The Pragmatic Programmer recommends that you should use one text editor for everything. My chosen weapon editor is Vim. So I want to collect all the ways in which Vim (and the Vim keybindings) can be used and setting up your computer to make Vim work well. This includes how to embed Vim in your IDE, web browser, email client, command shell ... But I don't want Vim tips - there are other questions for them. I want tips to get into Vim, or Vim mode. Though tips about Vim mode not in an editor would be allowed (e.g. tips for vi mode when using Bash). Update: Going quite well so far, with ways to edit in Vim/gVim, or to get vi mode in Firefox, Safari, Thunderbird, many IDEs and command line applications, MS Outlook and Word. But I'm wondering if there are more. Particular applications I wonder about include OpenOffice.org KOffice Kmail Evolution Internet Explorer GIMP and Photoshop ... (only joking ;)

  Hi, I have a C# Winforms application which is calling a simple powershell script using the following method: Process process = new Process(); process.StartInfo.FileName = @"powershell.exe"; process.StartInfo.Arguments = String.Format("-noexit \"C:\Develop\{1}\"", scriptName); process.Start(); The powershell script simply reads a registry key and outputs the subkeys. $items = get-childitem -literalPath hklm:\software foreach($item in $items) { Write-Host $item } The problem I have is that when I run the script from the C# application I get one set of results, but when I run the script standalone (from the powershell command line) I get a different set of results entirely. • Unity IOC, AOP & Interface Interception

  I've been playing around with Unity to do some AOP stuff, setting up via IOC like: ioc.RegisterType<ICustomerService, CustomerService>() .Configure<Interception>().SetInterceptorFor<ICustomerService>(new InterfaceInterceptor()); ... and then having an ICallHandler on the ICustomerService interface's methods. For teh time being i want to just get the method called, the class it's in, and the namespace for that class. So... inside the... public IMethodReturn Invoke(IMethodInvocation input, GetNextHandlerDelegate getNext) ...method of the ICallHandler, i can access the method name via input.MethodBase.Name... if i use input.MethodBase.DeclaringType.Name i get the interface ICustomerService... BUT... how would i go about getting the implementing class "CustomerService" rather than the interface? I've been told to use input.Target.. but that just returns "DynamicModule.ns.Wrapped_ICustomerService_4f2242e5e00640ab84e4bc9e05ba0a13" Any help on this folks?

  I am looking for sample code to create a dynamic Tree control in Flex using a Collection of objects obtained from the backend(Perl cgi). So, initially the Tree will display the root nodes. Clicking root node, will invoke the data for populating the child nodes (basically adding child nodes on demand). Clicking child nodes will pull another collection add child nodes of child node. So, lets assume Initially the Tree will display - Root1 Root2 Root3 Clicking Root1 will display something like this - Root1 Child 1 Child 2 Root2 Root3 And Clicking Child1 will display - Root1 Child 1 Child1 of Child 1 Child2 of Child 1 Child 2 Root2 Root3 Is it possible? • NSURLConnection and Basic HTTP Authentication

  I need to invoke an initial GET HTTP request with Basic Authentication. This would be the first time the request is sent to the server and I already have the username & password so there's no need for a challenge from the server for authorization. First question: 1) Does NSUrlConnection have to be set as synchronous to do Basic Auth? According to the answer on this post, it seems that you can't do Basic Auth if you opt for the async route. 2) Anyone know of any some sample code that illustrates Basic Auth on a GET request without the need for a challenge response? Apple's documentation shows an example but only after the server has issued the challenge request to the client. I'm kind of new the networking portion of the SDK and I'm not sure which of the other classes I should use to get this working. (I see the NSURLCredential class but it seems that it is used only with NSURLAuthenticationChallenge after the client has requested for an authorized resource from the server).

• Microsoft Surface - Flip & Scatter View Items

  Hi Guys, I'm currently trying to get flip to work with scatterview items, and I'm having some trouble conceptually with it, using a plugin called Thriple (http://thriple.codeplex.com/). Essentially, a 2 sided thriple control looks like this: <thriple:ContentControl3D xmlns:thriple="http://thriple.codeplex.com/" Background="LightBlue" BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="2" MaxWidth="200" MaxHeight="200" > <thriple:ContentControl3D.Content> <Button Content="Front Side" Command="thriple:ContentControl3D.RotateCommand" Width="100" Height="100" /> </thriple:ContentControl3D.Content> <thriple:ContentControl3D.BackContent> <Button Content="Back Side" Command="thriple:ContentControl3D.RotateCommand" Width="100" Height="100" /> </thriple:ContentControl3D.BackContent> </thriple:ContentControl3D> What I'm struggling to grasp is if I should be making 2 separate ScatterView templates to bind to the data I want, and then each one would be the "front" and "back" of a scatterview item OR should i make 2 separate ScatterView items which are bound to the data I want, which is then bound to the "back" and "front" of a main ScatterView item? If there is a better way of using doing flip animations with ScatterViewItem's, that'd be cool too! Thanks!

Trying to learn Scala... this evening I'm working on an internal DSL for a dynamically scoped language that might resemble PHP syntax. My REPL is: Welcome to Scala version 2.7.6.final (Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM, Java 1.6.0). I have some made-up example code: class $(any: Any) { def update(sym: Symbol, any: Any) { println("line 2 executed");} def -(sym: Symbol) : $ = { println("line 1 executed"); return this } def update(any: Any) { println("line 3 executed");} } The following works as expected: scala var a = new $(0) a: $ = $@19238ad scala a('x) = "blah" line 2 executed On the other hand, why does the following not invoke the 1-parameter update method? scala a = 1 :6: error: type mismatch; found : Int(1) required: $ a = 1 ^ Ultimately, I would like this to work: a-'x = "blah" Thanks
