• Commenting on Commits

  The source code experience on CodePlex just got more social. Now, you can comment directly on a commit when viewing a project’s source code history. This feature acts as a nice compliment to the existing ability to comment on a pull request's commits. To get started with this feature, navigate to the commit you are interested in from the source tab. As you hover over the line you would like to comment on, an icon to add a comment will appear to the left. Click on the icon, and comment away!     Once you comment on a line, the person who committed the change and anyone involved in the conversation will be notified of the comment by email.   Here are the notes for this week’s release: Pull Requests We’ve added the ability to see the snippets of code where a user commented inline in the discussion of pull requests. You can also add another line comment directly from the discussion area, rather than navigating to the code diff viewer. Note that there’s currently a known issue where the line associated with the comment isn’t being properly differentiated for existing pull requests (the line in the middle of each diff preview should be bolded). • Repercussions of enabling useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy?

  For my current project, we're using some CLR 2 based mixed mode assemblies. In order to use these from within a .NET 4 targetted assembly, I know you have to add useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy=true to the <startup> element within app.config. I understand that this changes the activation policy, causing these mixed-mode assemblies to be loaded using the highest supported version of the CLR. However, are there any side effects to doing this? What potential issues should I watch for when enabling the non-default activation policy?

I have done this before when I have access to the server by creating a network share and using Google desktop. I currently do not have access to this subversion server box. Any Ideas? • How to include asp.net assets when using Team Build 2008

  I am able to configure our Build Server (Team Build 2008) to build our asp.net application. I've done so via <ConfigurationToBuild Include="Debug|Mixed Platforms"> <FlavorToBuild>Debug</FlavorToBuild> <PlatformToBuild>Mixed Platforms</PlatformToBuild> </ConfigurationToBuild> Problem though, the asp.net assets(eg. script folders, imgs, etc.) are not copied to the deployment folder. Folder(_PublishedWebsites) only contains the binaries references of the app plus the pre-compiled web services. Is there a way to include said folders/files to the deployment folder? Thanks

• Which OAuth library do you find works best for Objective-C/iPhone?

  I have been looking to switch to OAuth for my Twitter integration code and now that there is a deadline in less than 7 weeks (see countdown link) it is even more important to make the jump to OAuth. I have been doing Basic Authentication which is extremely easy. Unfortunately OAuth does not appear to be something that I would whip together in a couple of hours. http://www.countdowntooauth.com/ So I am looking to use a library. I have put together the following list. MPOAuth MGTwitterEngine OAuthConsumer I see that MPOAuth has some great features with a good deal of testing code in place but there is one big problem. It does not work. The sample iPhone project that is supposed to authenticate with Twitter causes an error which others have identified and logged as a bug. http://code.google.com/p/mpoauthconnection/issues/detail?id=29 The last code change was March 11 and this bug was filed on March 30. It has been over a month and this critical bug has not been fixed yet. So I have moved on to MGTwitterEngine. I pulled down the source code and loaded it up in Xcode. Immediately I find that there are a few dependencies and the README file does not have a clear list of steps to fetch those dependencies and integrate them with the project so that it builds successfully. I see this as a sign that the project is not mature enough for prime time. I see also that the project references 2 libraries for JSON when one should be enough. One is TouchJSON which has worked well for me so I am again discouraged from relying on this project for my applications. I did find that MGTwitterEngine makes use of OAuthConsumer which is one of many OAuth projects hosted by an OAuth project on Google Code. http://code.google.com/p/oauth/ http://code.google.com/p/oauthconsumer/wiki/UsingOAuthConsumer It looks like OAuthConsumer is a good choice at first glance. It is hosted with other OAuth libraries and has some nice documentation with it. I pulled down the code and it builds without errors but it does have many warnings. And when I run the new Build and Analyze feature in Xcode 3.2 I see 50 analyzer results. Many are marked as potential memory leaks which would likely lead to instability in any app which uses this library. It seems there is no clear winner and I have to go with something before the big Twitter OAuth deadline. Any suggestions?

DataAnnotations in sample code does not work when the database fields are set to not allow nulls. ERROR occurs with the code from the book and with the sample code downloaded from codeplex. Help! I'm really frustrated by this!! I can't believe something so simple just doesn't work??? Steps to reproduce ERROR: Set Database fields to not allow NULLs (See Picture) Set NerdDinnerEntityModel Dinner class fields' Nullable property to false (See Picture) Add DataAnnotations for Dinner_Validation class (CODE A) Create Dinner repository class (CODE B) Add CREATE action to DinnerController (CODE C) This is blank form before posting (See Picture) This null ERROR occurs when posting a blank form which should be intercepted by the Dinner_Validation class DataAnnotations. Note ERROR message says that "This property cannot be set to a null value. WTH??? (See Picture) The next ERROR occurs during the edit process. Here is the Edit controller action (CODE D) This is the "Edit" form with intentionally wrong input to test Dinner Validation DataAnnotations (See Picture) The ERROR occurs again when posting the edit form with blank form fields. The post request should be intercepted by the Dinner_Validation class DataAnnotations. Same null entry error. WTH???   Theoretically does hashing a unique value yield a unique value? Let's say I have a DB table with 2 columns: id and code. id is an auto-incrementing int and code is a varchar. If I do ... $code = sha1($id); ... and then store $code into the same row as $id. Will my code column be unique as well? What about if I append the current time? eg: $code = sha1($id . time()); Thanks.

  My MSBuild command line is as follows: msbuild e:\code\myProject.csproj /p:Configuration=Debug /p:OutputPath=bin/Debug /p:Platform=x86 /p:PlatformTarget=x86 The project builds fine on my development machine in VS2010 but not with the command above. I am running Win 7 64 - Bit. I'm getting an error that says I don't have the Silverlight 4 SDK installed but I do. I"ve read some posts that you have to set the Platform=x86 but to no avail. • Java2D OpenGL Hardware Acceleration Doesn't Work

  It doesn't work with OpenGL with even the simplest of programs. Here is what I am doing.. java -Dsun.java2d.opengl=True -jar Java2Demo.jar (Java2Demo.jar is usually included with the JDK..) The text output is: OpenGL pipeline enabled for default config on screen 0 When I don't pass in the above VM argument things work fine (but slowly). When I do pass in the above argument nothing shows up... If I move the window around it captures whatever image it was on top of and jumbles it into nonsense. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 (Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]) (under Parallels on OS X 10.5.8) I used "Geeks3D GPU Caps Viewer" to tell me I have Open GL version: 2.0 NVIDIA-1.5.48 I have tried this with two version of the JVM. • CPU and profiling not supported for remote jvisualvm session

  When monitoring a remote app (using jstatd) I can neither profile nor monitor cpu consumption. Heap monitoring (provided I do not use G1) works. jvisualvm provides the message "Not supported for this JVM." in the CPU graph window. Is there anything missing in my setup? The google showed up next to no results. I have notice that the syntax is very heavy, every time I modify the source code, I also need to change the comment and I really have the impression to pass too much time modifying the comment for every change I make in the source code. Do you have some tips to document my source code efficiently ? Does some editor (or plugin for existing editor) for doxygen to do the following exist? automatically track unsynchronized code/comment and warn the programmer about it. automatically add doxygen comment format (template with parameter name in it for example) in the source code (template) for every new item PS: I am working on a C/C++ project.

  Above is the LINQ to SQL designer view for my data context. Is there a way to generate accessor methods for the subclasses as shown in the inheritance mapping above (Project, Task, etc...) without doing it manually? I added them manually but then a change in the designer overwrites any manual changes. Am i doing this wrong? should I not be making accessors for the sub classes? filtering from ActivityBase seems worse to me. Thanks for any help on this.

• Including non-standard C headers in C++

  I needed to include a few c headers ( non standard header files ) in my C++ code to be compiled by gcc. The C header (foo.h) has support for : #ifdef __cplusplus extern "C" { #endif and similarly at the end for }. The c++ code has the include "foo.h" I believe I should be able to just include the header (foo.h) and create instances of structs defined in the .h file. I am not able to compile the source code. It seems like the compiler looks at the c code as if it were c++ code. I see error such as error: expected constructor, destructor or type conversion before "(" Did I do something wrong ? I took advise from : http://www.parashift.com/c++-faq-lite/mixing-c-and-cpp.html What else do i need to do, to tell the c++ compiler "expect and compile as c code" ?

I successfully compiled it without changing the code. But when I executed, it is giving me a value 0.25, what I am expecting is 3.14. Code description says it is in K&R C and it doesn't work correctly in ANSI C without some change. I think I have to do those modification to execute it properly. I don't have any previous experience with K&R C. So can someone help me to change above code to ANSI C or point to the problems if any. I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 to execute this.

• .NET : Targeting the runtime

  I'm starting to read in-depth on the .NET framework, and its Common Language Runtime. I'm reading a .NET overview by Microsoft and I'm not sure what is meant by this statement. Code that targets the runtime is known as managed code, while code that does not target the runtime is known as unmanaged code. How do you target the Common Language Runtime? I know its defaulted when developing in Visual Studio, but how would you specifically target the CLR? What code when developing a .NET application wouldn't target the CLR, and thereby be called unmanaged code?
