• What's the right Java generic for a collection of elements with unique addressable indices?

  I'm on my way to programming a database application and in our course we are told to implement a library of elements using one of the Java Collections. Each of the elements has a unique ID with which it's supposed to be addressed. Now I am wondering how this can be done. I though about using a ListArray but this won't work because the only way of addressing List elements is through the index which you can't control. Do you have some advice for me?

If they are non-technical and have no understanding of programming, how would you go about showing what the system will do and how it will do it? I guess some sort of visual representation of the system but this seems very patronising to me.

• How to insert a WebView into a cocoa app?

  I'm rather new with the whole OSX programming, I wanted to stick a WebView into an empty app. Apparently it isn't as simple as sticking a WebView on a window in interface builder and creating an outlet. IBOutlet WebView *webView; It gives me a expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'WebView' and when I don't use an outlet, it terminates due to uncaught exception. I'm not too sure what these error messages mean. Seems it isn't that simple!

• Where can I find Python tutorials aimed at people who are already programmers?

• What should students be taught first when first learning sorting algorithms?

  If you were a programming teacher and you had to choose one sorting algorithm to teach your students which one would it be? I am asking for only one because I just want to introduce the concept of sorting. Should it be the bubble sort or the selection sort? I have noticed that these two are taught most often. Is there another type of sort that will explain sorting in an easier to understand way?

  I am in the process of making my own namespace in JavaScript... (function(window){ (function(){ var myNamespace = { somePublicMethod: function(){ }, anotherPublicMethod: function(){ } } return (window.myNamespace = window.my = myNamespace) }()); })(window); I'm new to these kinds of advanced JavaScript techniques and i'm trying to figure out the best way to call public methods from within my namespace. It appears that within my public methods this is being set to myNamespace. Should I call public methods like... AnotherPublicMethod: function(){ this.somePublicMethod() } or... AnotherPublicMethod: function(){ my.somePublicMethod(); } is there any difference?

  im using mvc framework and i have learned some techniques that help me with different parts of RAD. models: doctrine/visual paradigm controllers/libraries: various design patterns now i only need to know what technique/solution i should use for the views so that i can create views more rapidly. cause i don't think it's efficient to code css/html manually, even though i understand it. its the same principle when using visual paradigm to create both my mysql database tables and doctrine model classes. i believe in using right tools will boost up development speed. so what could i use for the views to save time and energy and don't reinvent the wheel all the time? dreamweaver? any css generation tools? 960/blueprint for layout? suggestions? thanks

• Secure xml messages being read from database into app.

  I have an app that reads xml from a database using NHibernate Dal. The dal calls stored procedures to read and encapsulate the data from the schema into an xml message, wrap it up to a message and enqueue it on an internal queue for processing. I would to secure the channel from the database reads to the dequeue action. What would be the best way to do it. I was thinking of signing the xml using System.Security.Cryptography.Xml namespace, but is their any other techniques or approaches I need to know about? Any help would be appreciated. Bob.

I'm using glib that has the 'gchar* g_get_current_dir(void)' function and it returns the current directory, but what I really need is the executable's dir.   Hi everyone, I'm reading O'reilly's Learning iPhone Programming and on page 79 it says I have to create a new file (UIViewController subclass) and thick the checkbox to ask Xcode to generate an associated NIB file. The problem is: I do not have this option in my XCode 3.1 (this options is from XCode 3.2). So, I have to do it manually, and I don't know how. Could someone please help me? Thanks in advance!

• Could someone explain __declspec(naked) please?

  I'm looking into porting a script engine written for Windows to Linux; it's for Winamp's visualization platform AVS. I'm not sure if it's even possible at the moment. From what I can tell the code is taking the addresses of the C functions nseel_asm_atan and nseel_asm_atan_end and storing them inside a table that it can reference during code execution. I've looked at MS's documentation, but I'm unsure what __declspec(naked) really does. What is prolog and epilog code mentioned in the documentation? Is that related to Windows calling conventions? Is this portable? What would happen if I put it in my address bar, which I assume would be a very unwise idea? I am confused.
