• Is there a way to create a custom installer package to do batch installs of a bunch of programs at o

  Basically I want to create a file which will automatically install a bunch of files without having to manually install each of them (i.e. Flash, Adobe Reader, MS Office, etc.). I'm guessing the easiest way to do this would be to create a batch file but I don't have much experience with the scripting side of things. I remember seeing a website at one point that would do this sort of thing for you but I'm not sure if that could be used offline or not. Thanks in advance...just looking to make things a bit more streamlined on new builds without the costs associated with imaging software. Thanks!

• Application stopped unexpectedly at launch

  I've run this on a device and on the emulator. The app stops unexpectedly on both. I have not a clue what is wrong currently. It uses Google API Maps I compiled with Google Api 7. • How do you unit test new code that uses a bunch of classes that cannot be instantiated in a test har

  I'm writing a messaging layer that should handle communication with a third party API. The API has a bunch of classes that cannot be easily (if at all) instantiated in a test harness. I decided to wrap each class that I need in my unit tests with an adapter/wrapper and expose the members I need through this adapter class. Often I need to expose the wrapped type as well which I do by exposing it as an object. I have also provided an interface for for each or the adapter classes to be able to use them with a mocking framework. This way I can substitute the classes in test for whatever I need. The downside is that I have a bunch of adapter classes that so far server no other reason but testing. For me this is a good reason by itself but others may find this not enough. Possibly, when I write an implementation for another third party vendor's API, I may be able to reuse much of my code and only provide the adapters specific to the vendor's API. However, this is a bit of a long shot and I'm not actually sure it will work. What do you think? Is this approach viable or am I writing unnecessary code that serves no real purpose? Let me say that I do want to write unit tests for my messaging layer and I do now know how to do it otherwise.

• What's an easy way to install a bunch of OSS apps in my home dir on my company's aging Redhat VNC servers?

  My company's IT group doesn't want to install lots of common stuff on our VNC servers, which run RHEL 4. The list of stuff i want/need includes graphviz, midnight commander, various python libs, sqlite, netbeans, antlr, jdk1.6, etc. They've hobbled rpm somehow, so i can't do rpm --relocate. And i don't want the RHEL4 compatible revs of this stuff anyway. I've probably got the room to build all this stuff in my home dir, but i don't want to take forever tracking down dependencies. Looking for an easy way to get the apps/tools i need, and nothing (or very little) else. Any suggestions?

  I'm pretty new to setting up apache locally with xampp. I'm trying to develop locally with xampp (Ubuntu 11.04) linux 1.7.4 for a Drupal Site. I've actually git pulled an exact copy of this drupal site from another testing server hosted at MediaTemple. Issue I'll visit my local development environment virtualhost (http://bbk.loc) and the front page renders correctly with no errors from drupal or apache. The issue is the subsequent pages don't return an "Object not found" Error from apache. What is more bizarre is when I add various query strings and the pages are found (like http://bbk.loc?p=user).   (I asked the following question at the DNN forum, and also at snowcovered. Nobody knew of such an obvious time-saver being for sale. I'm posting here in case anybody knows of a freeware module that might do this.) By "groups of dnn pages", I mean pages that form a hierarchy (not necessary a hierarchy that is headed with a page at the same level as the Home page.) I know that I can copy web pages, one by one, using the admin login via the web-based dnn interface. But, I'd prefer a script or wizard, of some sort (that runs scripts behind the scenes) that can allow me to 1) specify a web page that I want to copy (along with the hierarchy of pages under it) 2) specify the names and titles of the new top-level pages 3) specify whether the contained modules of the top-level page that I want to copy is to be : ( ) New ( ) Copy ( ) Reference (as in the web-based interface) 4) repeat 3) for each of the source pages in the hierarchy that I want to copy You might say that I am looking to do something similar to creating a portal web site based on a template, except that it's not an entirely new website - instead it's a section of the current web site. Are they loaded simpily by recognize the 0x0000 separator or these is a string offset table elsewhere in the binary pointing to separate NSString objects? Thanks.   I have read the other posts, e.g., http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1830886/vim-executing-a-list-of-editor-commands and others. The answer isn't clear to me for my case. I have some editor commands that I generated from an SQL query. It uses :s/foo/bar to change country codes (from FIPS to a non-standard code set). Here's a sample of the file: :s/CB/CAMBO :s/CQ/NMARI :s/KV/KOSOV :s/PP/PAPUA ... I have saved that in a file called fipsToNonStd.vim (unsure about the correct extension). I want to run those commands one after another. What's the easiest way to do so? Thanks a bunch! SO Rocks!

• Best way to move a bunch of SQL Server 2005 tables to another Server?

  I've been looking for a way to move a bunch of tables, more than 40, to another server with all the data in them. I've looked around for scripts to generate inserts but so far I'd have to run them once for every table, then copy all the scripts over and then run them on the server. Seems like there is a better way. --Update-- My strategy for doing this may have been for naught. The end script, using MS SQL Server Publishing Wizard and Red Gates SQL Data Compare (excellent tool, btw) results in a file over 1GB. This makes my system plead for mercy and I'm not willing to risk crashing a clients server just opening the file to run it. I may have to rethink this whole thing and break down to just individual per table scripts. I'm not looking forward to that.

  On my 100TB cluster, I need to find dirs and files that have a "deny" ACE within their ACL, then remove that ACE on each instance. What I need to do next is extract $ACENUMBER and $PATHTOFILE so that I can execute this command: chmod -a# $ACENUMBER $PATHTOFILE Additional issue is that the find command (above) gives a relative path, whereas I need the full path. I guess that would need to be edited somehow. Any guidance on how to accomplish this?

• What's the best way to get a bunch of rows from MySQL if you have an array of integer primary keys?

  I have a MySQL table with an auto-incremented integer primary key. I want to get a bunch of rows from the table based on an array of integers I have in memory in my program. The array ranges from a handful to about 1000 items. What's the most efficient query syntax to get the rows? I can think of a few: "SELECT * FROM thetable WHERE id IN (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)" (this is what I do now) "SELECT * FROM thetable where id = 1 OR id = 2 OR id = 3" Multiple queries of the form "SELECT * FROM thetable WHERE id = 1". Probably the most friendly to the query cache, but expensive due to having lots of query parsing. A union, like "SELECT * FROM thetable WHERE id = 1 UNION SELECT * FROM thetable WHERE id = 2 ..." I'm not sure if MySQL caches the results of each query; it's also the most verbose format. I think using the NoSQL interface in MySQL 5.6+ would be the most efficient way to do this, but I'm not yet up to MySQL 5.6.

• Elegant ways to print out a bunch of instance attributes in python 2.6?

  First some background. I'm parsing a simple file format, and wish to re-use the results in python code later, so I made a very simple class hierarchy and wrote the parser to construct objects from the original records in the text files I'm working from. At the same time I'd like to load the data into a legacy database, the loader files for which take a simple tab-separated format. The most straightforward way would be to just do something like: print "%s\t%s\t....".format(record.id, record.attr1, len(record.attr1), ...) Because there are so many columns to print out though, I thought I'd use the Template class to make it a bit easier to see what's what, i.e.: templ = Template("$id\t$attr1\t$attr1_len\t...") And I figured I could just use the record in place of the map used by a substitute call, with some additional keywords for derived values: print templ.substitute(record, attr1_len=len(record.attr1), ...) Unfortunately this fails, complaining that the record instance does not have an attribute __getitem__. So my question is twofold: do I need to implement __getitem__ and if so how? is there a more elegant way for something like this where you just need to output a bunch of attributes you already know the name for?

• The biggest ADF conference "down under"

  While Oracle Open World is the place to be for ADF presentations, for Aussies living in Perth, San Francisco is a tad far away (believe me from experience, the 23hrs flight from PER-SYD-SFO is tedious).  That's why I'm very excited to see that the Australian Oracle User Group at this year's Perth conference is running its largest set of ADF presentation to date: 5! Okay, it doesn't compare to the 60 ADF sessions at OOW, but it's a small conference of around 300 people that runs for 2 days with 54 sessions total, not 40000 people that runs for 5 days with 1900+ sessions, so I think that's a good effort for a conference that's at the end of the earth! • Android RatingBar weirdness: Whenever I add a RatingBar to my layout, a bunch of the generated tags,

  Whenever I use a RatingBar view in my layout, I suddenly get all kinds of compile errors. I'm using Android 2.0, but I've also tried 2.0.1, and 2.1, without joy. I also get a message: Shader 'android.graphics.BitmapShader' is not supported in Layout Editor, and an odd warning which may or maynot be related: warning: Ignoring InnerClasses attribute for an anonymous inner class that doesn't come with an associated EnclosingMethod attribute. I've tried using the RatingBar both within a tablelayout and outside it, but it behaves the same way. This is very puzzling and frustrating. Please help if you can.
