  • Fill a table from a RAND based formula in Excel 2010

    I am trying to do a Monte Carlo simulation using Excel, but a lot of the tutorials I have found are either for older versions of the product, or are not quite what I am after. A simple example of the kind of think I am after is: Cell A1 contains the formula to simulate (for example int(6*rand())+1 to simulate rolling a dice). I have 10 rows of "Trials". What I want is to somehow point each row at a different calculation of the formula in A1. So I would end up with something like Trial Value 1 2 2 5 3 6 4 2 5 1 6 3 7 2 8 4 9 2 10 1 I have tried playing with some of the "What-if Analysis" tools, but I am a bit lost.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Finding Hidden files that are causing drive to fill up

    What is the best way to find out what files are sucking up so much space? My Windows directory lists its size as 15 GB but when I run a powershell script against it, it shows 40 GB. It seems 40 GB is about right because if I use that 40 GB and add it to the rest of my folders on C I get the 45 GB that is in use. I checked volume shadow copy and that is disabled and there are no volume shadow files listed. My page file is limited to 3 GB. How can I find out what files are taking 25 GB of space? Final Results: We ended up disabling UAC and then the Properties showed the true file size of the Windows folder, as shown in powershell script. This allowed us to drill down to the folder that had the issues... In our case it was in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\VMware\VDM there were several large dump files, these were the mysterious unknown files in WinDirStat. It turns out our nessus scan is crashing a view service for a couple seconds so it creates a large dump file. So we will try this.. https://discussions.nessus.org/thread/5212

  • ATI Radeon 4350 lower resolutions do not fill screen in Windows 7

    I have a new Windows 7 64-bit machine with an ATI HD4350 card. The card is connected via VGA (DSUB) to a SyncMaster 205 BW LCD monitor. If I set the resolution to 1680x1050 the LCD screen is completely filled and everything looks fine. But, if I try to set the resolution to 1280x768 (my preferred resolution) only about 2/3 of the monitor screen is used. There are large black bars above and below the image (but not on the sides). I have successfully used this monitor at the 1280x768 resolution for many years without this problem (albeit in Windows XP and a different video card). Can anyone suggest how I can get adjust things so that the entire screen is used at the 1280x768 resolution?

  • Fill rows down quickly (column or matrix of zeros)

    I have an extremely basic question, but I have never found the answer by searching the internet. I simply want to create a large column of zeros with Excel. Sometimes I want to create a huge matrix of zeros (maybe 600 rows by 500 columns) and then replace a few zeros with 1's to create a model design matrix. I have always started by creating a column of, for example, 10 zeros, copying and pasting those zeroes, then copying and pasting the resulting column of 20 zeros, etc., until I had the desired number of rows. Then I would copy and paste that column of zeros one at a time over and over until I had the desired number of columns. This procedure is tedious and time-consuming and I know there must be an easier way. Do you know of any other methods?

  • Why is OracleDataAdapter.Fill() Very Slow?

    I am using a pretty complex query to retrieve some data out of one of our billing databases. I'm running in to an issue where the query seems to complete fairly quickly when executed with SQL Developer, but does not seem to ever finish when using the OracleDataAdapter.Fill() method. I'm only trying to read about 1000 rows, and the query completes in SQL Developer in about 20 seconds. What could be causing such drastic differences in performance? I have tons of other queries that run quickly using the same function.     Hi, the pixman image library can draw radial color gradients between two circles. I'd like the radial gradient to fill a rectangular area defined by "width" and "height" completely. Now my question, how should I choose the radius of the outer circle? My current parameters are the following: A) inner circle (start of gradient) center pointer of inner circle: (width*0.5|height*0.5) radius of inner circle: 1 color: black B) outer circle (end of gradient) center pointer of outer circle: (width*0.5|height*0.5) radius of outer circle: ??? color: white How should I choose the radius of the outer circle to make sure that the outer circle will entirely fill my bounding rectangle defined by width*height. There shall be no empty areas in the corners, the area shall be completely covered by the circle. In other words, the bounding rectangle width,height must fit entirely into the outer circle. Choosing outer_radius = max(width, height) * 0.5 as the radius for the outer circle is obviously not enough. It must be bigger, but how much bigger? Thanks!

    I have a well formed XML file I would like to fill a datagrid with. I would prefer using the AutoGenerate feature of WFPToolKit datagrid, but could hard code the columns in. The trouble I am having is getting the xml file contents into a datagrid. I had it partially working in a listview, but think a datagrid would be more suited for my needs.   • Highcharts Area graph, use 2 fill colors above / below X axis

    In Highcharts, I'd like to fill an Area graph with 2 colors, positive values get one color, negative values get another color. I've been able to do this with a linearGradient, but this must be adjusted based upon the size of the container. Is there a more general way of doing this, e.g. setting values 0 color 1, values < 0 color 2? See my JSFiddle for more information and an example: http://jsfiddle.net/GNvur/2/
