  • Problem upgrading 11.04

    I've been trying to upgrade my ubuntu 11.04 desktop computer, but when I click on the ugrade button: I get this error: I've tryied to change my repositories, but it changes nothing in the error((on the "setting new software channel"). Can someone point me in the right direction?   • How to play from mic to speakers in Ubuntu Karmic?

    Ok, I have a silly problem. I have few bluetooth headsets lying around and I want to make DYI baby monitor out of them. All I need is for some application to listen to the mic and send it to the speakers. Loopback (even though it doesn't work) is not good enough, it'll send sound from the mic to the speakers in the same device but I need it to go across devices. So does anyone know some application that can do that? I'm looking for something small and easy to use, not jackd or similar.

  • Ubuntu karmic 9.10 Live image on USB - not working.

    This is my configuration 4GB pendrive, HP ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386 image file for live USB install pendrivelinux (u910p) and ubetbootin (unetbootin.sourceforge.net) machine T61 Earlier I have installed ubuntu live image using above two mentioned utilities, numerous times. But, on a 2gb kingston flash-drive. Today, i am trying to install the live-image on 4gb HP flash-drive. Both the utilities install, i can see the files in the drive, even the wubi-installer is working, it say press "reboot" to boot in live-ubuntu. But, when i press "reboot" it does not reboot my win7. Now, when i reboot, select boot-usb in bios, it say "no boot record". I am making my usb bootable, using the utility, even then nothing is working out. Did this a few times. Is 4GB usb a prob, does anyone knows how to partition my usb in 2-2gb and install it on one partition, and then use the live image. Is it possible.

However, when ever I move a window, the redraw of that window takes 3-8 seconds. Even moving the window takes the same amount of time Is this being done in software rather than the nVidea hardware? The windows themselves do not respond. I have seen a few old threads but no relevant fixes - If anyone could suggest a fix I would very much appreciate it. I have tried: sudo nvidea-xconfig sudo nvidia-settings Then configure TwinView go to save the config... and the error unable to parse xorg.conf file and the error in the console VALIDATION ERROR: Data incomplete in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.     I see a lot of stuff online related to fixing buttons that can't be pressed, and fixing network issues with proxies. This seems like a different problem to me, related to jem.util.0.0.0 in the case of maven2 or needed libs for other plugins. The setup: Eclipse 3.5.1 (Galileo) installed with apt-get. Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) (This is running as a VM, not that is should matter.) General problem description: Maven2 eclipse plugin installation fails. Specifically, I can not install maven2 plugin from the eclipse installation flow using this target site: http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/sites/m2e/ The maven site is found, installation begins, and then returns this error: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.   • apt-mirror does not mirror the i18n directory

    I need to setup a local Ubuntu mirror so the whole network doesn't need to hit remote servers in order to update and install new packages. Following a brief tutorial found here, I managed to get a server up and running that correctly mirrors packages from the main and restricted categories. However, when I call apt-get update on a client, I get a couple of errors such as : Ign http://192.168.1.18 karmic/main Translation-fr Ign http://192.168.1.18 karmic/restricted Translation-fr Checking back on the server, I see that apt-mirror only took the binary-amd64 directory of the mirror, and didn't take i18n that would provide Translation-fr. The manpage for apt-mirror doesn't say anything about i18n, and Google is of no help either. How do I properly mirror i18n?   • Wordpress Automatic Updating/Installing Plugins Permissions

    I am using the latest Wordpress and I have always had issues with the automatic updater. For the files in the wordpress directory, i set them to permission 770, and add the webserver user 'www-data' as the group owner. I use lighttpd. However, the automatic updating plugins or installing plugins does not work. It works if I chmod 777 the files or if I set the actual owner to the web server as well. What are the best permission settings for security while still allowing the updating feature to work properly in wordress? Also, by 'not work' i mean, it will go to the screen that asks me for FTP credentials when I try to update.

    I am installed apache2-mpm-worker and left all config files default (I've never touched them much). Is it normal that when I restart apache there is at least 20 apache processes starting? Shouldn't it be just 2 like it says in the configuration? Also, my memory seems to grow very quickly until my machine crashes. I don't have any mods installed.

    I got this error after installing Meld on a new Karmic installation: ~$ meld No module named pygtk Meld requires pygtk 2.8.0 or higher. I installed the latest version of python-gtk with aptitude but I'm not sure what version is actually installed. My python version is 2.6. This is weird because I have another machine that runs Karmic and Meld without a problem. Any ideas?

    I have an installation in my machine (my version is 9.10 Karmic) and I got a warning to Upgrade to a version 10.04, to me it is okay, and I would like to upgrade to the 10.04, but here is my question. If I do, what will happen to my system of files? All my files? My programs, my apache configuration? All my servers.. Does everything reset to default? Will I lost all my data? Because if YES, will lost everything, why such a warning appears to me? Then the best solution is, format everything and install a brand new ubuntu version 11. Otherwise I still using 9.10 Karmic version,and just update normally as I'm required.. What is the best to do on this situation? Appreciate any help!

  • PPP connection between PalmOS and Ubuntu (over ttyUSB0?) without crashy "visor" kernel module

    I have a Palm Treo 680 which I'd like to use as a media remote, using Palm MPC. Almost the exact instructions on that page used to work perfectly for establishing a PPP connection over the USB cable; I think I last tried it in Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty). In Karmic, I find that /dev/ttyUSB{0,1} are not present by default, and when I modprobe visor to get them, the Palm immediately crashes and reboots, as seen in Ubuntu bug 522753 (it reboots again as long as the module is still loaded and USB is still connected). The usbserial module has the same result. From reading that bug and elsewhere, it appears that the visor module is abandoned, and jpilot and friends use some other approach to talk to PalmOS over USB these days, which might not even involve a ttyUSB device. My question is, therefore: How do I create a PPP connection between PalmOS and Karmic without crashing the Palm?

    When I press Ctrl-C in any pseudoterminal (xterm, gnome-terminal, rxvt, text console and SSH) in Karmic Koala, the string ^C gets echoed to the terminal in Ubuntu Karmic Koala. This hasn't happened in Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope. I'd like to get rid of the extra ^C. Example: $ cat foo foo ^C $ _ I got the above by typing C, A, T, Enter, F, O, O, Enter, Ctrl-C. I want to get rid of the ^C, and get this for the same keypresses: $ cat foo foo $ _ I tried setting stty -echoctl, which created a single-character HT (or a box with Unicode 0003 in it) instead of the ^C. I want to see absolutely nothing when I press Ctrl-C. I'm using Linux linux 2.6.31-20-generic-pae #57-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 8 10:23:59 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

  • windows partition not booting

    Using clonezilla, I cloned a win7 installation from the first partition on one drive to the first partition on a second larger drive and then installed ubuntu into the second partition (same configuration as the original drive, just maverick instead of karmic). ubuntu detected the win7 partition properly and added it to the grub menu. However, when I choose the win7 option in grub, I just get a black screen and blinking cursor :( Suggestions please?!?
