  • Map caps-lock key to middle mouse click

    Since I rarely use caps-lock, I'd like to map the key to a middle mouse click instead. I would also like to map Alt+Caps Lock to the original function of the caps lock key, should I ever need it. I can map any keyboard shortcut to xdotool click 2, but the Gnome Keyboard Shortcuts dialog won't let me assign a command to the caps-lock key, even with modifiers. I know this is a bit of a strange undertaking; How would I go about doing it?

  • Rending 2D Tile World (With Player In The Middle)

    What I have at the moment is a series of data structures I'm using, and I would like to render the world onto the screen (just the visible parts). I've actually already done this several times (lots of rewrites), but it's a bit buggy (rounding seems to make the screen jump ever so slightly every x tiles the player walks past). Basically I've been confusing myself heavily on what I feel should be a pretty simple problem... so here I am asking for some help! OK! So I have a 50x50 array holding the tiles of the world. I have the player position as 2 floats, x ([0, 49]) and y ([0, 49]) in that array. I have the application size exactly in pixels (x and y). I have an arbitrary TILE_SIZE static int (based on screen pixels). What I think is heavily confusing me is using a 2d orthogonal projection in opengl which maps (0,0) to the top left of the screen and (SCREEN_SIZE_X, SCREEN_SIZE_Y) to the bottom right of the screen. gl.glMatrixMode(GL.GL_PROJECTION); gl.glLoadIdentity(); glu.gluOrtho2D(0, getActualWidth(), getActualHeight(), 0); gl.glMatrixMode(GL.GL_MODELVIEW); gl.glLoadIdentity(); The map tiles are set so that the (0,0) in the array is the bottom left. And the player has to be in the middle on the screen (SCREEN_SIZE_X/2, SCREEN_SIZE_Y/2). What I've been doing so far is trying to render 1-2 tiles more all around what would be displayed on the screen so that I don't have to worry about figuring out rendering half a tile from the top left, depending where the player is. It seems like such an easy problem but after spending about 40+hours on it rewriting it many times I think I'm at a point where I just can't think clearly anymore... Any help would be appreciated. It would be great if someone can provide some very basic pseudo code on keeping the player in the middle when your projection is mapped to screen coordinates and only rendering basically the tiles that you would be any be see.   • Motivation Problems, Middle School Programmer [closed]

    I'm in middle school at the moment and have been programming for about a year and a half. I mostly work with Python and Ruby, and am currently learning Rails. I know, you can never learn enough, it takes a looong time to master a subject, but I feel like I don't have much left to learn :(. I've learned many concepts in Python, learned basically the whole std lib and have written a ton of programs, same with Ruby. In Ruby I've also done a lot of metaprogramming. After I've learned all the concepts, and written a lot of programs, there is nothing really left for me to do! What can I do, now that I've learned all the concepts, and written some programs? I can't get a job working with real developers, and the programming camp I went to last year was far too easy.

  • middle-click on Thunderbird icon in Unity Launcher gives window without titlebar or menubar

    I expect that this is a (low-priority) bug, but apport-bug strongly encouraged me to come here first, so here I am... What I did: I started Thunderbird and then minimized the window. I then middle-clicked on the Thunderbird icon in the Unity (3D) Launcher. I do not have any of the appmenu packages installed (not indicator-appmenu, nor any of the *-globalmenu or appmenu-* packages). What I expected: I would get the Thunderbird main window back at its original location, or possibly I'd get a Compose Mail window somewhere on the desktop. (This was something of an experiment, so I wasn't really sure what to expect.) What happens: The Thunderbird main window appears in the upper left corner of the display, displacing the Launcher. This was not its previous location. The window has no titlebar or menubar. The top panel says "Thunderbird Mail", but moving the mouse over that text does nothing (doesn't show the close/minimize/maximize controls). I can still bring up the Launcher and start applications. If I start Firefox and give it input focus, clicking on the Thunderbird window leaves the focus with Firefox. I can use the Switcher to give Thunderbird the input focus. (Both the Unity Switcher and the Static Application Switcher work. If I use the Static Application Switcher, I see Thunderbird's menubar in the top panel until I release Alt-tab.) I can kill Thunderbird from the Launcher. I can also use the Unity Switcher to minimize everything. If I then left-click on the Thunderbird icon in the Launcher, the Thunderbird main window reappears in the upper left. But this time it does not displace the Launcher, and it has the proper titlebar and menubar. This does not happen with Unity 2D. And I haven't seen it with any other app. I realize that because I've disabled the appmenu stuff, I'm not getting the full Unity experience, and there might be some rough edges. But this is a bug, yes?

    My server works well about half a year. But a strange thing happened (several hours before). This server has two IP-address 58.17.85.19 & 117.21.178.19 When I navigate to http://58.17.85.19, nothing different as before. But http://117.21.178.19 will return a "302 Object moved" and become a "redirect loop" I do some test: ($cmd = "wget http://117.21.178.19/?xx=$RANDOM --max-redirect 0 -S --no-cache -O -") Step by step: run $cmd on my PC and my firend's one (we live in two side of China, far away). - got 302 run $cmd on this server - got 200 OK (content is correct result of index.php) run $cmd on another server in same computer room - got 200 OK telnet from my PC and build an HTTP request (type by hand) - got 200 OK shutdown php-fpm, run $cmd on my PC - got 302 run $cmd on server - 502 Bad Gateway shutdown nginx, run $cmd on both the server and my PC - Connection refused. create iptables rule, refuse any connection to 58.17.85.19:80. run nc -l 80 -k -vvv on server and run $cmd on my PC NC show me that.... Server accept connection (Connection from [my ip]) My connection closed ! (Remove fd xx from list) wget dump out response - got 302 I know that, normaly, NC will accept connection, then dump HTTP request from client, and client will wait for response. this connection will open forever(infact client will close connection becouse timeout), becouse NC can't give any response. So... where my request gone? who send an response to the client? some virus on my server system? If so, why 58.17.85.19 didn't has this error? or... I was attacked by a middleman?

I would like to be able to display my output using the standard google map 'map' style (gray background, yellow streets, etc) in google earth. Is there a style guide or method that I should be using? At the moment, I've achieved to create multiple placemarks and drag&drop them but I'm not able to delete it because I cannot identify them individually. I'm using the google earth api examples1 but I cannot find this functionality. I want to get the name of the different placemarks, any idea?

There are three DLLs involved, Alpha.DLL, Bravo.DLL and Charlie.DLL. You call M on an instance of Charlie and it says “Charlie / Alpha”. Now the vendor who supplies Bravo.DLL ships a new version which has this code: public class Bravo: Alpha {   public override void M()   {     Console.WriteLine("Bravo");     base.M();   } } The question is: what happens if you call Charlie.M without recompiling Charlie.DLL, but you are loading the new version of Bravo.DLL? The customer was quite surprised that the output is still “Charlie / Alpha”, not “Charlie / Bravo / Alpha”.   • Finding an alert in the middle of your javascript

    I was debugging a script injection issue the other day using some sample code with an alert in it. The alert was popping out meaning the code got executed leaving open the possibility for a hacker to put there some nasty malicious code. I knew my alert was being executed but didn’t know how. So I tried something that worked perfectly for this problem, replaced the native alert function with my own one. All I had to do in Chrome was open the javascript console and type: alert = function(msg){ console.log(msg); console.trace(); }; The next time the malicious code was executed, instead of the regular alert I got something similar to this:   alert("testing") testing console.trace() alert:2 (anonymous function):2 InjectedScript._evaluateOn:312 InjectedScript._evaluateAndWrap:294 InjectedScript.evaluate:288 undefined In my case I was able to see what was going on and find the offending function. This was tested on Firebug in Firefox and it works as.

But none of them seem to work for Leopard. Does anyone have a solution to generate a true middle click without an external mouse, under Leopard?

    I'm sick of the inconsistent behavior of clicking on links in Firefox. I want control of where they open up. If I'm done with a page and want to replace it with the link I am clicking, I left-click. If there are things I want to look at in the future, but I'm not done with this page yet, I'll middle-click. This normally works, but there are exceptions. If the website designer uses target="_blank", my left-click is overridden and the link opens in a new tab/window. If the links are javascript, a middle-click rarely works. I get an (Untitled) tab with some javascript as the URL. etc. How do I fix these things and get consistent clicking on links?

  • Certain running applications cause middle-click in firefox to function differently under windows 7

    If I have photoshop, vlc player, or even just the windows task list open, when I middle click in firefox to get it to open in new tab (by depressing both buttons on my Lenovo g550 with alps touchpad), the mouse icon changes to some variety of scroll type feature, middle click doesn't work, and if I persist then the other programs take focus, and some crash. I assume the scroll like feature must be intended as added functionality in either windows 7 or the alps touchpad driver, but no settings adjustments seem to be able to remove this, and I could see nothing regarding this in firefox. I would really like to fix this! Thanks.

    Hi, I'm wondering if the company I work for can see what I'm doing when I'm using a HTTPS connection - gmail for example. My case: I'm using gmail from work but I need to enter a password for a proxy when accesing the first web page - the password is asked inside the browser. I receive from the proxy a certificate which I must accept in order to make the Internet connection work. So the question is: Can https data exchange, between gmail and browser, be tracked?     Hi, I am no expert in network security, so pardon if this question is not very smart :). I am automating logins to some machines using ssh. I am currently avoiding host-key warnings using StrictHostKeyChecking no. I naively understand that someone can impersonate as the server and I risk losing my password to him if that were the case. However, if I am using only public/private Key based authentication ( using PasswordAuthentication no ), can the intruder still cause harm? So basically, with ssh -o "StrictHostKeyChecking no" -o "PasswordAuthentication no" : 1) Can the intruder decipher my private key? 2) Are there any other security threats? regards, JP
