• What's the best replacement for timeGetTime to avoid wrap-around?

  timeGetTime seems to be quite good to query for system time. However, its return value is 32-bit only, so it wraps around every 49 days approx. It's not too hard to detect the rollover in calling code, but it adds some complexity, and (worse) requires keeping a state. Is there some replacement for timeGetTime that would not have this wrap-around problem (probably by returning a 64-bit value), and have roughly the same precision and cost?

• SNMP counter issues with cisco RV082

  Does anyone else poll this router with SNMP? We are using firmware version: 2.0.0.19-tz We are having problems with the traffic counters, some of them appear to be implemented as 16 bit counter instead of 32 bit counters. The reason this is causing problems is that they roll over (at 65,000) to 0 in less than our minute polling cycle, really skewing our metrics. The counter for the Lan (interface 2) seems to be functioning properly, however interfaces 3 and 4 (WAN and DMZ / WAN2) rollover at 65000. I thought that in the various metropolitan areas, an "http://google.com" request goes to the ISP's DNS server, which somehow returns an IP address for one of several geographically-nearby http servers, and then something internally rolls over to the next available local Google server. But then, I could not explain where the table of available local Google servers is actually cached, or the details of the IP address rollover. Or how they could manually take some server out of the rotation, from anywhere. So, what should I be reading now so I can ace this question next time? Also, what daemons run on these machines 24/7 to keep all those mirrored database disks synchronized?

Convert my blog to Jekyll hosted on github – I am tired of wordpress, tired of spam, and would like to try something new.  I have already started on this.  Just need to finish it up. Launch my GWT / Google App Engine application – I am currently developing a GWT application to be deployed to Google App Engine. Do another presentation at the user group – At least a few lightning talks.  I have a few ideas. • Unclickable NSWindow?

  I have an NSWindow in a Cocoa application with a fullscreen OpenGL context running above it. The NSWindow (is loaded from the default nib). It contains some buttons, but when I try to click them they do not press down as a normal aqua button does. I think this could have something to do with the first responder, but i'm not 100% sure. I can move the NSWindow around by it's title bar, but nothing inside it is clickable, nor are there any changes on rollover of the close and minimise buttons. How do I make my NSWindow (and the objects inside it) 'clickable'?

I have movieclips that I scale up slightly on rollover, but if you hover over the edge of the movieclip it just sits there and flickers, continuously receiving mouseOver and mouseOut events. How do you deal with this?   problem hello, I have Button (with no name), which has a MovieClip child. this movie_clip called ax_kr has XX frames, each containing one image. Now, upon loading flash or frame containg this button (actually, 43 of them), I would like to tell to each button, that in your ax_kr MovieClip, load frame YY - first one would load frame 2, second frame 3, third frame 4 etc. etc. Or is there anyway to use one generic MovieClip/Button with that ax_kr MovieClip as child with frame xy as active and two more actions? (on RollOver, another MC on stage goes to frame xy (same as ax_kr has) and on Click, another MC on stage goes to frame xy (still the same number)) I did previously in as3 and find it quite okay, but now I have to enhance old as2 application and I feel like I should just kill myself.

  I'm in xcode debugging my iphone application. when i get to a break point and I roll over my object and properties of that object say "out of scope" instead of their respective values. Here's what I do: I have inited a view with nib name (initwithnibname). Then set the property of that view to the object that I want. I have placed the breakpoint in the viewwillappear method. I rollover my reference to the variable that was is my property. All properties in the object say "out of scope" Does anyone know why this is happening?

• How do I make a simple image-based button with visual states in Silverlight 3?

  At my previous company, we created our RIAs using Flex with graphical assets created in Flash. In Flash, you could simply lay out your graphics for different states, i.e. rollover, disabled. Now, I'm working on a Silverlight 3 project. I've been given a bunch of images that need to serve as the graphics for buttons that have a rollover, pressed, and normal state. I cannot figure out how to simply create buttons with different images for different visual states in Visual Studio 2008 or Expression Blend 3. Here's where I am currently. • Javascript image change causes embeded UserControls to flicker

  I have a n html page being displayed in IE. It has some buttons made up of images with mouseover/mouseout events on them in JavaScript, and a bunch of embedded .Net UserControls. When the mouseover/mouseout events fire, I change the images src to something else (simple rollover effect). The problem is that the UserControls often (but not always) flicker when this happens. To be clear, the images don't flicker, and the rest of the page doesn't flicker, just the embedded controls. This page is local, not coming from a server or anything. So, any ideas? More information : I've noticed that highlighting text does it too...

• MovieClip property - what is the url it goes when I click on it.

  I have bought a flash template in an online store. There are different buttons on it and some of them link to existing local html files from the pack - index-1.html, index-2.html etc. There are also some buttons that don't go anywhere right now but they are intended to be linked to some urls too. They react with animation on mouse rollover and I suppose they should go to some url if I set it somewhere on click. But there is no documentation about that in the pack. I searched through the Flash source file and all html pages files for something like "index", "geturl", also looked through them manually to realize how it could be made but with no luck. So, my question - is that possible that way or another to make that MovieClip button link to some my page, for example, "contacts.html". Thanks.

• Creating a bouncing button in flex

  I am trying to make an effect on a button that when I mouse over it, it keeps jumping up and down smoothly and when mouse out it stops. • Using Zend_Navigation, how do I create image-based navigation?

  (I'm assuming my navigation should be in a layout script.) I have a navigation bar composed of rollover images. The image corresponding to the page that is active should be a different color, though. I do this by changing the image. My question is, where and how should I implement this using Zend_Navigation? • Overlapping elements stop overlapping in IE7 on class change

  On this page http://zenchan.com/program/ When I rollover the right box 2nd from the top suddenly the overlapping (negative margin disappears). What's happening is that a 'hover' class is being added to shift the background sprite. The two yellow boxes are debugging: if the hover class is put their in advance there is no problem. So fundamentally the CSS is not a problem for IE7 but adding the class is. Any ideas what's causing this. I've tried adding haslayout to various elements but to little effect.

• What program should I write to use up the 3,472 minutes on my iPhone 3GS?

  Something slightly off-topic but bear with me. I've got an iPhone 3GS that I use only for development and over the months I've accumulated 3,472 rollover minutes (my primary phone is an Android G-1). It seems a shame to let these minutes go to "waste." What cool iPhone app would you like to see that uses these minutes up in a productive, interesting, and possibly cool way. I'll code whichever suggestion has the highest vote, providing it's not illegal and doesn't violate Apple's SDK, and release it for free on the AppStore.

• Making buttons - <button> or <div> ?

  Hi, I'm wondering what html element to use for buttons on a web page - I'd like to style my 'buttons' like twitter does. For example: http://twitter.com/twitter the "more" button at the bottom of the tweet listing - is that a <button> element, or a <div> element? I'd like to know which to use. I think for either <button> or <div> we can supply rollover states and all that stuff to make it look pleasant? Thanks
