• How can I make a character move forward in a certain direction?

  I have an entity class which is updated every game tick. Let's just assume said entity moves forward constantly. What i want to know is, how can i make it so that i can give an angle to a function and it will make my entity move in that direction. let's say for example moveForward(90); Would make my character move to the right, or for example declaring my rotation as a global Integer: moveForward(rotation); rotation++; Would make my entity move around in a small circle, I assume this includes some kind of vector math, which I haven't done any studying on so a brief explanation of that if it's necessary would be nice. I would appreciate a small code snippet and an explanation I can analyze, thanks in advanced :)

• How to disguise a serverside mob as another?

  I've been working a Minecraft sever mod and i want to be able to add a new entity to the server, but then make the server send the packets to the client, imitating another mob, for example.. Lets say say i have EntityPlayerNPC.class, what i want to do is have all of the packets that get sent to the client look like they are from that of another player which is on the player, therefore allowing me to add custom NPC's... Thinking about the theory i'm sure this can be done. I've tried looking around for where the packets are being sent from and whatnot, can anyone think up a solution? edit: i tried adding a new constructor to the Packet20NamedEntitySpawn class like so: public Packet20NamedEntitySpawn(String username, EntityLiving e){ this.entityId = 0; this.name = username; this.xPosition = MathHelper.floor_double(e.posX * 32.0D); this.yPosition = MathHelper.floor_double(e.posY * 32.0D); this.zPosition = MathHelper.floor_double(e.posZ * 32.0D); this.rotation = (byte)((int)(e.rotationYaw * 256.0F / 360.0F)); this.pitch = (byte)((int)(e.rotationPitch * 256.0F / 360.0F)); this.metadata = e.getDataWatcher(); } unfortunatley, that didn't work :(

• Android Webview : Display numberpad?

  Hi all, I implemented a WebView in my android app displaying a web form. One of the fields ask for the user to manually enter his phone number (in case the phone does not allow extracting of phone number). Right now, the qwerty soft keyboard pops up when user selects the field. Is there a way I can have the numberpad display instead? (Remember I'm using HTML and not native controls) Thanks! Shaun

• IE6 Hacks: Getting jQuery tools expose to work properly on my site

  Hi, I am trying to get the jQuery tools 'expose' function to work properly in IE6. The page is http://204.51.246.10:12123/ You will need IE6 to reproduce the bug (obviously :)). If you click 'Sign In' on the top-right corner (below the 'Join Today!' button), you will notice that the sign in panel (fieldset#login-controls) is getting covered by the background of its parent element (.signinPanel), which is very weird. It is not on the top of z-index, and I can't figure out why. Please note that in order to get fieldset#login-controls positioned correctly, I have applied the following hack for IE6: $("#header, #header div, #header table, #header td, #header tr").css("position", "static"); $("fieldset#login-controls *").css("position", "static"); This might be the reason for the above.   Hi, I have an ASP.Net site, in which I am using a ListView with a Datapager. Apparently there is a bug with the Datapager, where it crashes if there is an empty ampersand (&) in the querystring. • Why does apache httpd tell me that my name-based virtualhosts only works with SNI enabled browers (RFC 4366)

  Why does apache give me this error message in my logs? Is it a false positive? [warn] Init: Name-based SSL virtual hosts only work for clients with TLS server name indication support (RFC 4366) I have recently upgraded from Centos 5.7 to 6.3, and by that to a newer httpd version. I have always made my ssl virtualhost configurations like below. Where all domains that share the same certificate (mostly/always wildcard certs) share the same ip. But never got this error message before (or have I, maybe I haven't looked to enough in my logs?) From what I have learned this should work without SNI (Server Name Indication) Here is relevant parts of my httpd.conf file. Without this VirtualHost I don't get the error message. • How should I deal with persisting an Android WebView if my activity gets destroyed while showing ano

  Hi, I'm building an Android application that's based around an enhanced WebView (based on PhoneGap). I've enhanced the WebView so that from JavaScript running inside you can invoke the native contact picker to choose a phone number (which may be supplied by Facebook for example). The problem I have is that the native contact picker runs in an activity in another process and the Android docs say that while another activity is open my activity may get destroyed due to memory constraints. I haven't actually seen this happen in my application but if it did then I'm guessing my WebView's state would be destroyed and the code that was waiting for the picked contact would be terminated. It seems a bit crazy that the activity requesting a contact could be destroyed while the contact picker is open. Does anyone know if that does indeed happen? Is there a way to persist the state of the WebView if it does? Thanks, -Shaun

  I just found that David Aiken, a windows azure developer and evangelist, wrote a cool article about how to use Memcached in Windows Azure through the new feature Azure Plugin. http://www.davidaiken.com/2011/01/11/windows-azure-memcached-plugin/ I think the best solution for distributed cache in Azure would be the Windows Azure AppFabric Caching but since it’s only in CTP and avaiable in the US data center David’s solution would be the best. Only one thing I’m concerning about, is the stability of windows verion Memcached.

• Misaligned Display on Resume

  I have an odd issue with my laptop display when resuming from suspend. When I have an additional monitor connected there is no issue. However without an additional monitor connected, after resuming only the left 10% of the laptop screen (just enough to show the Unity Launcher and a bit more) is visibly working, although strangely in a screenshot this same 10% is shown on the right hand side of the screenshot: I ran xrandr --verbose before and after resume, and the only difference (using diff) was: 2c2 < LVDS connected 1366x768+0+0 (0x98) normal (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm --- > LVDS connected 1366x768+1280+0 (0x98) normal (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm This seems to suggest the screen position has been shifted by 1280 horizontally, the width of the second monitor I use. Indeed, running the command xrandr --output LVDS --pos 0x0 does bring the screen back to normal. However, I don't want to have to run this command every time, I'd prefer to cure the source of the problem than just correct the symptoms. Any ideas on how to get Ubuntu to keep the display configuration settings from before suspend when it resumes? or why it changes at all? • Live CD has black screen HP DV6

  Attempting to install/try ubuntu (11.10, 12.04) on my new laptop, using a liveCD (and tried USB). I get the purple screen (with the man/keyboard at the bottom) and after that the screen flashes bright white before going black. Ubuntu continues to load in the background, with login sound etc but the screen is off. I have tried as many different solutions as I could find including: using nomodestep, xforcevesa, i915.modeset=0, and also now i915.modeset=1 in boot options (seperately): varying consequences, but either I end up at a blinking cursor with no prompt, a command line (startx fails: no screen found), or the original blank screen again Tried booting from VirtualBox - it crashes at the same place the screen would go blank when using a CD/USB tried 11.04: I don't have this problem BUT when trying to install, I get a ubi-partman error 141 (possibly down to the three partitions that came on my laptop... not sure why HP needed there own separate partition for HP Tools...) Model: HP Pavillion DV6 6B08SA Processor: AMD Quad-Core A6-3410MX APU with Radeon HD 6545G2 Dual Graphics (1.6 GHZ 4 MB L2 cache ) Chipset: AMD RS880M Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just want to be able to partition the drive and install Ubuntu. I'm assuming the issue is graphics card related, although I have no confirmation of that. Update: Tried the ?orkarounds on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/BlankScreen - set gfxpayload=text changed nothing, removing splash did nothing and setting vesafb.nonsense=1 did nothing either. • How to resolve concurrent ramp collisions in 2d platformer?

  A bit about the physics engine: Bodies are all rectangles. Bodies are sorted at the beginning of every update loop based on the body-in-motion's horizontal and vertical velocity (to avoid sticky walls/floors). Solid bodies are resolved by testing the body-in-motion's new X with the old Y and adjusting if necessary before testing the new X with the new Y, again adjusting if necessary. Works great. Ramps (rectangles with a flag set indicating bottom-left, bottom-right, etc) are resolved by calculating the ratio of penetration along the x-axis and setting a new Y accordingly (with some checks to make sure the body-in-motion isn't attacking from the tall or flat side, in which case the ramp is treated as a normal rectangle). This also works great. Side-by-side ramps, eg. \/ and /\, work fine but things get jittery and unpredictable when a top-down ramp is directly above a bottom-up ramp, eg. < or > or when a bottom-up ramp runs right up to the ceiling/top-down ramp runs right down to the floor. I've been able to lock it down somewhat by detecting whether the body-in-motion hadFloor when also colliding with a top-down ramp or hadCeiling when also colliding with a bottom-up ramp then resolving by calculating the ratio of penetration along the y-axis and setting the new X accordingly (the opposite of the normal behavior). But as soon as the body-in-motion jumps the hasFloor flag becomes false, the first ramp resolution pushes the body into collision with the second ramp and collision resolution becomes jittery again for a few frames. I'm sure I'm making this more complicated than it needs to be. Can anyone recommend a good resource that outlines the best way to address this problem? (Please don't recommend I use something like Box2d or Chipmunk. Also, "redesign your levels" isn't an answer; the body-in-motion may at times be riding another body-in-motion, eg. a platform, that pushes it into a ramp so I'd like to be able to resolve this properly.) • XNA texture stretching at extreme coordinates

  I was toying around with infinitely scrolling 2D textures using the XNA framework and came across a rather strange observation. Using the basic draw code: spriteBatch.Begin(SpriteSortMode.Deferred, null, SamplerState.PointWrap, null, null); spriteBatch.Draw(texture, Vector2.Zero, sourceRect, Color.White, 0.0f, Vector2.Zero, 2.0f, SpriteEffects.None, 1.0f); spriteBatch.End(); with a small 32x32 texture and a sourceRect defined as: sourceRect = new Rectangle(0, 0, Window.ClientBounds.Width, Window.ClientBounds.Height); I was able to scroll the texture across the window infinitely by changing the X and Y coordinates of the sourceRect. Playing with different coordinate locations, I noticed that if I made either of the coordinates too large, the texture no longer drew and was instead replaced by either a flat color or alternating bands of color. Tracing the coordinates back down, I found the following at around (0, -16,777,000): As you can see, the texture in the top half of the image is stretched vertically. My question is why is this occurring? Certainly I can do things like bind the x/y position to some low multiple of 32 to give the same effect without this occurring, so fixing it isn't an issue, but I'm curious about why this happens. My initial thought was perhaps it was overflowing the coordinate value or some such thing, but looking at a data type size chart, the next closest below is an unsigned short with a range of about 32,000, and above is an unsigned int with a range of around 2,000,000,000 so that isn't likely the cause.

• How to list down hosts with nmap 5.51

  I was using nmap 5.21 with the -PN, -F and --reason flags in version 5.21. I was outputting the results to an XML file. It would list ALL hosts (say I gave it a /24 subnet to scan. I then updated to 5.51 and ran the exact same command, but it no longer lists down hosts, just ones that are up. Is there a new flag to list down hosts? OR did this get removed in 5.51? My full options are: -sS -n -PN -SV -F --reason I've also used and removed --open but it will not list down hosts in my XML output.

• Determining whether a visitor reached two different pages in one visit

  I have a funnel that I would like to track. Tracking this funnel won't work with the default "goal funnel" tracking in Google due to the fact that I am mixing events and pageviews. As such, I've created a series of reports: Visits to demo pages - An inclusion filter on "Page". Triggers an Event on these pages - An inclusion filter on "Page" and "Event Category". Does not bounce - An inclusion filter on "Page" and an exclusion filter on "Exit Page" for these same pages. Reach our storefront - ?? Purchase something - An inclusion filter on "Page" and a report that shows "Transactions". At a basic level, I need to track users who reached demo pages, then reached any page on our store. Intuitively, I created a segment, used two inclusive "Page" filters (one for the demo pages and one for any page in our store), and combined them with an "AND" operator. I thought this was working until I tried to do the same thing in a dashboard widget and on a custom report. When I tried the same thing in those areas, I got zero results. I figured this might be because widgets and custom report filters function differently from segment filters (the options are different for all of them), so I tried applying my "demo page && store page" segment to a report that gave me a general page list. All I saw was a list of the specific pages. I tried simplifying things by creating a custom report that showed all visits to store pages, then applied a segment that filtered for users who visited demo pages. This got me the same numbers as my "demo page && store page" segment, but showed a list of demo pages. This has led me to believe that the "demo page && store page segment" approach and the "demo segment && store report" functionally behave the same. However, this experience has left me questioning whether they're giving me what I want. Are these methods showing me all users who reached both sets of pages? Is there a better/easier/more standard way of doing this aside from looking at visitor flow reports? I'm trying to avoid a combination of custom variables/events and using the horizontal funnel approach since it would consume a large number of our limited goals and seems more complicated than is necessary for tracking this funnel.

• Ubuntu 13.10 vs 12.04 LTS

  I am migrating my workflow to ubuntu from windows. I have a macbook pro at home and I really enjoy being able to use the workspaces feature on ubuntu to increase my productivity. As myself being someone that isn't very familiar with doing command line things and hasn't worked with linux a whole lot other than doing basic commands like cd, ls, rm, screen, and sudo. I was wondering what you think would be the best choice for a ubuntu version. I am looking for ease of use as well as stability. I spend most of my time working with eclipse, as well as writing documents. On a side note, right now I have a pretty high end workstation, but I am using a crappy notebook 2.5 inch 1TB hard drive for my system. Would it be worth it to switch to a top of the line SSD, or would the difference not really be noticeable? How difficult would it be for a newcommer to setup the system with the os and important folders running on a SSD and then other folders for storage running on a HD.

• We've had our content copied under a different URL - why and what do we do?

  We have a problem. We've noticed a large amount of traffic showing up on our Google Analytics. Upon further investigation we have found that we've had our content copied under a different URL. Our site: http://www.targetis.co.uk The coppied site: http://www.target-is.com (isn't showing up with Chrome for us) We don't own this domain. Their content is hosted with them (not via proxy). The large part of the traffic is coming from video hosting site. What do we do?

• Find the occurrence of word/character in SQL column with wildcard character - PATINDEX

  CharIndex and PatIndex both can be used to determine the presence of character or string within sql column data. Both returns the starting position of the first occurrence of the character/word within expression. However, one major difference between CharIndex and PatIndex is that later allows the use of wild card characters while searching for character or word within column data. Also, Patindex is useful for searching within Text datatype. Allowed wild card characters are % and _ . " % "  - use it for any number of characters " _ "  - use it for a single character. Syntax PATINDEX('%pattern%', string_expression) Note - it's mandatory to include pattern within %% characters. returns starting position of occurrence of pattern, if found. returns 0, if not found returns NULL , if either pattern or string_expression is null. Example SELECT fldname FROM tblUsers WHERE PatIndex('%v_pin%', fldname) > 0

  Dear All, I am creating a simple game, where I would like more than one player to be able to connect and play. With regards to a single player game, I am more than comfortable with the coding. I cannot seem to figure out how to connect up more than one player and update their screens when the each player moves. So far I have the players connecting, but I still need to be able update the SharedObject when a player moves, then push it out to the other players. I have searched high and low for a good tutorial / source code to review. Code So Far A tutorial i found so far listened for a click as it was a mouse based movement, then this told the SHaredObject to tell the client (and the others) to update that clients movement. However all of my movement is listend and acted on in the playership class.

• FTS: Searching across multiple fields 'intelligently'

  Hi, I have a SP using FTS (Full Text Search). I want searches across multiple fields, 'intelligently' ranking results based on the weights I assign. Consider a search on a view fetching data from tables: Book, Author and Genre. Now, I want the searcher to be able to do: "Ludlum Fiction", "Robert Ludlum Bourne", "Bourne Ludlum", etc. Unfortunately, the only way I have been able to do that at present is this: http://pastebin.com/fdce11ff This is pretty bad, because I am manually breaking up the search string. I know I am doing this completely the wrong way, but can't figure out the right way to search across multiple fields in FTS. Can somebody help please?
