  • Ralink-based USB Wi-Fi adapter drops connection after some time

    I have an Intellinet Wireless 150N USB adapter (based on a Ralink rt3070 chip) in an Ubuntu 10.10 installation. The problem is, that it's dropping the connection after being connected to a wireless network for 10 - 20 minutes. I have to unplug it and plug it in again every time this happens. I read somewhere, that I need to blacklist some chipset modules, but I don't how? And which ralink modules I have to blacklist? Thanks for your answers! :D

    Ringhals nuclear power plant, which is part of the Vattenfall Group, is located about 60 km south-west of the beautiful coastal city of Gothenburg in Sweden.   • MacBook Air Keeps dropping Wi-Fi

    So my MacBook Air keeps dropping Wi-Fi for some reason. It happens ONLY on my home network, and ONLY to my computer. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G router. I'm the only Mac on the network. Every other Wi-Fi network is perfectly fine, and every other computer on this network is fine. Many things can happen. It could say it's connected, but not be able to access the internet (whether it tells me that there's no internet access or not). It may just drop Wi-Fi altogether, and refuse to connect. Generally, if I unplug the router and plug it back in, it's all good. It also works if I restart my computer. This happens multiple times a day. Yesterday I did everything I know to get it to connect (restart router many times, restart my MacBook), and nothing worked. Eventually it just magically worked. How can I stop this from happening? We got a notice from Comcast a while ago saying that a bot called DNS Changer was detected on one or more machines on the network. I'm assuming that this can't be me, right?

  • Wi-Fi connections gets Idle

    I am having this terrible problem. I have read a lot of people getting disconnected from the Network, it is not my case, I don't get disconnected, the connection just gets "idle" most of the time. It only works for short periods of time (seconds, a couple of minutes at most), then gets dead, then works again, and so on. It is annoying. I am using Ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell M5030 laptop. I have Windows 7 installed too, and of course with it, the wifi works perfectly. Any idea? advice?

Just using wifi only and doing triangulation to get the current position of the user inside the building. I got minimum 3 access point to implement it. But how to start code in android and integrate triangulation inside android coding? I got the algorithm to do it.. but is there any chance that I can get it done?   • how to know which standard does my Wi-Fi Connection using currently

    My laptop has capabilities of 802.11n connection. with my previous router i could connect with more than 54Mb connection. now i have D-Link router and for some reason the maximum connection speed is 54Mb, which implying that the connection has established with 802.11g. how can i check which standard (g or n) has been established? is there any command that get that information? (nm-applet does not give any information about that at the connection information window).

  • Wi-Fi performance in Windows 8 RP on a MacBook Air (mid 2011)

    I was able to install the Boot Camp Windows software using the executable that it provided, and there are no unrecognized or unknown devices in Device Manager. Wi-Fi works but it seems to be limited to an extremely slow 1.5Mbits. Network Center reports an 802.11n connection (at 65Mbps usually) but transfers never reach above about 200kB/s. Being limited to 1/20th of the connection speed of my internet service is quite frustrating. Does anybody experience the same issue? I have been trying to identify the Broadcom Wi-Fi chipset and a driver that I could try to upgrade to but I have made very little progress on Google on this front.

Then I realised I already have hardware that can potentially do this - I have an iPod Touch, and a Wi-Fi network in the house. So, is there some iPod Touch App that will let the iPod act as a Wi-Fi music receiver? And presumably, a corresponding piece of broadcast software for my (Windows Vista) Laptop?

I have two ISPs, one can be accessed via Wi-Fi, one can be accessed via LAN. In Mac OS X I can define the priority, which network to choose first. But what I wish to do is to load-balance with both networks. I don't want to buy extra hardware. I have some unused Wi-Fi routers if this would help. Compiling and configuring programms in Linux is no problem for me.

    I live in an apartment and some new guys have apparently moved into one of the apartments. They have been shamelessly hacking into my WiFi. Mine was initially a WEP encrypted network and out of laziness I just limited and reserved the IPS on my router for the people in my house. Yesterday I had to free up an IP for a guest in my house but before he could join the network these guys connected in. I have changed my encryption to WPA2 and hope they dont have the hardware/patience required to hack into it, but there are many wi-fi networks in my apartment most of which are secured using WEP. I don't really want to call the police on them. Is there any way to deter them from misusing other people's wi-fi ? I have gone through I think someone else has access to my wireless network. What next? but I have already taken the steps mentioned there.

Never update anything? 2. What happens if Windows or some other program is set to update automatically and attempts to do so while you are using a public Wi-Fi?
