• Dell PERC 5 - RAID-10 keeps rebuilding drive 2 every day

  I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with this card: RAID bus controller [0104]: Dell PowerEdge Expandable RAID controller 5 [1028:0015] and six disks in a RAID-10. • Windows 8.1 in a VMWare Workstation 10 guest's mouse is missing, but only sometimes

  I have VMWare Workstation 10 running on a Windows 7 machine, hosting a k guest OS. Before upgrading to WS 10 I was using version 9, and the Win8 guest OS ran without difficulty or error conditions. Since upgrading and installing the most current VMWare Tools inside the guest after upgrading to version 10, there are circumstances where the mouse pointer is not visible; the mouse position appears stuck at a screen location which is not the center of the virtualized display; and mouse click and scrolling events still get processed. Once this begins happening I have to reboot the host machine to get it to stop. (VMWare Tools 9.6.1 build-1378637 is what the WS 10 software installed) The problem seems to correlate with whether the mouse is captured during Win 8.1's bootup process, before control is passed to the login screen. If I explicitly click the mouse into the guest OS and move it slowly around while the system is booting, then I see the mouse after clicking to lift the first screen and expose the password prompt, and there is never a problem within the guest. If I don't do this during bootup, there is no mouse pointer, with the symptoms listed above. I have tried removing and reinstalling VMWare tools, and the other steps published for "mouse problems" from VMWare's chaotic troubleshooting database. The problem persists. Is there a setting in the virtual machine's configuration which could prevent this behavior?

• 4.4.1 Timeout in 10 minute intervals SMTP on batch email jobs

  I am running a job that uses SMTP and it can run in excess of an hour, emailing the entire time. It's not my code but a workflow based app so I just get a form to configure the mail server, subj, msg, etc and can't see it's implementation. I know it is .NET and SmtpClient. I have been seeing 4.4.1 timeouts every 10 minutes being reported by the application as the response from the server. The # of emails in those 10 minute sessions are variable, between 100 and below 150 which leads me to ask about the 10 minute timeout time specifically. I have found there are several exchange properties (though I don't know what version they are running) that set timeout limits. (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232205%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx) Would those values for ConnectionInactivityTimeOut and ConnectionTimeout be the controlling the timeouts? and finally I would like to ask if exchange considers the consistent connection(s) it kept receiving from the same source as one continuous connection and cause the timeout each 10 minutes and cause the timeout? I am using a static ip of the mail server. Thanks if anyone can shed any light on my problem. EDIT - It is my belief that the library is just keeping the connections around and isn't wrapped in any cleanup code or using statement. That said, I still haven't made any progress on this issue in the last year and just requeue the failed ones as I see them.

• linux: per-process monitor, every 10 minutes, with history access

  I really didn't know a better way to ask my question, hence you get a horribly named question. I will explain what i want to do, maybe that will help you help me. I would like to have my linux machine continuously monitor (every 10 minutes) all the processes on my machine. The information from each process that I require is the name, CPU usage, allocated (virtual) memory, and resident (ram) memory. If these periodic reports were to be looked at, they would look something like this: PROCESS CPU RAM VIRTUAL name1 % MB MB name2 % MB MB ...etc..etc These reports should be stored in such a way that I can access them at a later date by giving a date/time scope (range). For instance, if I want to see the history of my processes from 12:00:00 1.12.12 till 12:00:00 2.12.12 I can - and it should give me the history of the processes for every 10 minutes between those date/time borders. The format of the return is not important, that will be handled by a script anyway and can be modified into anything I need. I have looked into a few things so far, but have not found something that clearly meets my needs. Among the things i searched: sar, free(1), top(1).. and a few other things. It should be a simple issue, i can already see all this information by simply looking at my htop, but i need only a tool that will gather the desired fields for me for each processes every 10 minutes, and then also let me extract slices of that data based on date/time scopes (ranges). note: I have limited experience with linux, so please give detailed information. note2: The desired output will be something like this (after receiving the desired range) CPU USAGE BY PROCESS: proc_nameA 1,2,2,2,2,2...... numbers represent % usage every 10 minutes... proc_nameB 4,3,3,6,1,2...... The same idea with the other information.

  I'd like to control iTunes through Objective-C ( I just can't get Python appscript installed correctly on my OS/X 10.6.3 system ... that would have been my first choice ). From what I gather, the IPC on Cocoa is based on Apple Events : is there either: Online documentation on iTunes / Apple Events API ? Instrospection mechanism to get to iTunes API? I know about Applescript Editor / Open Dictionary functionality but I can't figure out how to translate the information I see into IPC calls. Note: I have already tried working out a solution through PyObjC but the main function I am after is track searching which I can't figure out. Disclaimer: OS/X super-newbie here.

• Stuck removing ffmpeg from system due to package problems

  I'd be very grateful to get a bit of support on the following situation: Using Ubuntu 12.04, and I used the PPA of Jon Severinson for ffmpeg. I had a problem playing movies with mplayer, so I decided to remove the PPA and try to use libav only after I read this article about libav vs ffmpeg. I first removed the PPA from the list, then apt-get update, etc. But I couldn't remove ffmpeg due to dependency-errors and got stuck in what seemed some kind of loop. Then I found a suggestion here. I followed the steps, and ended up force-removing libavcodec-extra-53. Because, apparently that was "what got stuff moving again". At the moment I can't. Now Ubuntu is reporting a broken package (BrokenCount 0).   I have a linux box with two NIC cards: eth0 and eth1. In one card i have 3 public IP: eth0 = 10.10.10.1, eth0:1= 10.10.10.2 and eth0:2= 10.10.10.3 In the other card i have one local IP eth1 = 192.9.200.1 I want to redirect all the wan traffic for 10.10.10.2 to the LAN 192.9.200.2 and the same for 10.10.10.3 to 192.9.200.3 I have tried with this rule but doesn't work iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -d 10.10.10.2 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.9.200.2 iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -d 10.10.10.3 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.9.200.3 IP forward is enabled in /etc/sysctl.conf Can you help me, please.

• ssh port forwarding freezes after 10 simultaneous connections

  Hello. I am using port forwarding to utilize proxy server which is on remote machine. Remote machine hostname is remotemachine. Proxy is listening on 8118 port. I am translating this port to local port 5223. ssh -vvv -N remotemachine -L 5223:localhost:8118 Everything is fine if I don't use more than 10 simultaneous connections, when ssh just freezes. It no longer send data trough port forwarding. I.e. ab -c 10 -t 5 -X 'localhost:5223' 'http://www.google.ru/' works, but ab -c 20 -t 5 -X 'localhost:5223' 'http://www.google.ru/' causes ssh to freeze MaxSessions 30 parameter in /etc/ssh/sshd_config didn't helped at all. What can I do to remove this 10 connection limit? Nothing interesting in -vvv output =(

  Hello there! I don't want to force anybody to make it on behalf of me but trust me: i've looked hundreds of sites and i can't find a good starting point for this. I have 4x500Gb HDD's which i want to set up in RAID 10. The most promising description is here, but it's a little old and unclear for me, above all i prefer Debian over Ubuntu (i know there are slight or no differences). Is it possible to build RAID 10 with Debian's installer or i need to build RAID 1 first in the installer then use mdadm later? • Solaris 10 opencsw git package issue with bitbucket git hosting

  Has anyone tried using `git' from opencsw package in order to work with bitbucket source hosting service (under solaris10)? I tried to use git as the bitbucket documentation explains, and - under Debian GNU/Linux, it worked flawlessly as described, but - under Solaris 10, I got Authentication Failed message. I even tried to run truss to see anything is suspicious but could not find any smoking gun under solaris why it failed. ldd git-binary didnd't show anything suspicious either (except for the libcrypt library which could be a suspicious to think about export restrictions. Have they shipped incompatible version? BUT since the password is typed into https: connection, I suspect it is only a matter of web-level cryptography and should be universal these days.) I am now tempted to compile git suite under solaris 10, but I did find people who seem to be using git with bitbucket under solaris 10 and am wondering what could be wrong.

  We need to run standard Solaris 10 on a few development servers (Dell 530s) because we can't get a commercial application running on OpenSolaris (we're still trying). However, we are finding that sometimes when Solaris 10 goes to do the install, after setup screens, it can't find the SATA drive. We tried the BIOS setting described here: BigAdmin On some Dells 530s, Solaris GA installs fine, but on others it doesn't. OpenSolaris always installs. Is there some way we can determine (eg. installing OpenSolaris and examining the SATA driver used) what OpenSolaris detected and use some option or driver from it to get Solaris 10 installed on our development Dell servers?

• Installing Solaris 10 on sunT5220 - ZFS/UFS raid 10?

  I am in a bit of a time crunch, and need to get two T5220's built. We were very happy to see two boxes in our aged inventory which had 8 HDD's each, but didn't think to check if they were running hardware RAID or not. Turns out that they aren't. When we install, we are given the option to use UFS or ZFS, but when we select a place to install we're only given the option of installing on one single disk. Is it possible to create a software raid 10 across all of the disks and install the OS on that? Sorry if any lingo is wrong, I'm not really a Sun guy and our guru is out of town right now. Any help would be really appreciated! Note: Most of the guides I've found on google entail installing the OS on a single disk, and then creating a separate RAID 10 on other disks. We would actually like the OS to reside on the RAID 10. Hope that clarifies things.

So what I want is to have the couple a and b, c and d in RAID 0. Then on top of that, a RAID 1. The option in the mdadm command to configure the layout is -p, --layout with option : near, far, offset see here I want to keep my data safe if the array 1 fails for example, that would mean that every chunk of data are always copied on both arrays. I set the web.xml (see code fragment below) but I have tough time configuring WebLogic.   Hi, if i have a number between 100 and 1000 i want to get the value 3 because 10^3 = 1000. Likewise, if i had a number between 10 and 100 i would want to get the value 2, because 10^2 is 100. Incase you're wondering, its to do with calculating a probability and i always need to divide through by 10^value, to keep the probability between 0 and 1. For example if i calculate 9256, i need to divide through by 10^4, so that i get a probability of 0.92 I'm not sure how to do the rounding up and how to do the base 10, could someone please help?

• How to get iTunes to recognize that certain ID3 tags have been removed from files?

  I use MusicBrainz Picard to manage the ID3 tags on my MP3 collection and iTunes for playing them and managing my iPod. I have Picard set to remove the Composer tag from any files that don't also contain the word "Classical" in the Genre tag. I've run Picard and it has removed the Composer tag from many of my files. However, iTunes keeps displaying the old value of the Composer field. I have tried right-clicking on the file to update, choosing "Get Info" and clicking OK. This has no effect on the Composer field when it has been removed entirely; it only refreshes the displayed value when it has been changed from one non-empty value to another. How can I get iTunes to stop showing the old values for tags that have been removed? Please note I don't want to lose other iTunes metadata such as ratings and play counts, so removing the files from the iTunes library and re-adding them is not an option.

  I recently had to reset my PC back to factory settings which lost my entire iTunes library. I still have my music and other files on my iPad and want to sync it back to the PC. Upon syncing it only gives me two options. "Erase and Sync" which replaces the contents of my iPad with the blank iTunes library, or, "Transfer Purchases" which reads like it will only transfer the purchases from iPad to iTunes. I would like to avoid re-burning my entire CD library to iTunes all over again. Is there a way for me to sync the iPad to the iTunes library (aka the computer)?

  Managing my itunes files (music,video,tv shows, iphone apps) is a really hard task and I have not had much luck yet. If I had a single PC for the rest of my life with the same hard drive, it would work great but infortunately it cannot be that simple. I just build a new PC as my old hard drive crashed with all my itunes purchased songs, video, etc. So is there anyway to get itunes to recognize that I own all them and let me re-download everything? As I see it so far, it knows what I own by my itunes account login (it knows if I purchased a file or not ever) but does not seem to let you just re-download everything to a new PC or new hard drive. I realize I should of had backups but I didn't. My backup plan is a work in process and it is getting much better but that doesnt help with my situation at the moment. So I am asking for any help, ideas of how to retrieve all my previous itunes purchases?

  In lieu of some official documentation I'm in the process of putting together some posts on the new 10.1.3.4.1 Excel templates. No more HTML, maskerading as Excel; far more flexibility than Excel Analyzer and no need to write complex XSL templates to create the same output. Multi sheet outputs with macros and embeddable XSL commands are here. Their capabilities are pretty extensive and I have not worked on them for a few years since I helped put them together for EBS FSG users, so Im back on the learning curve. Let me say up front, there is no template builder, its a completely manual process to build them but, the results can be fantastic and provide yet another 'superstar' opportunity for you. The templates can take hierarchical XML data and walk the structure much like an RTF template. They use named cells/ranges and a hidden sheet to provide the rendering engine the hooks to drop the data in. I can then generate the following binary XLS file. There are few cool things to notice in this output. DEPARTMENT-EMPLOYEE master detail output. Not easy to do in the Excel analyzer. Date formatting - this is using an Excel function. Remember BIP generates XML dates in the canonical format. I have formatted the other data in the template using native Excel functionality Salary Total - although in the data I have calculated this in the template Conditional formatting - this is handled by Excel based on the incoming data Bursting department data across sheets and using the department name for the sheet name. This alone is worth the wait! there's more, but this is surely enough to whet your appetite. These new templates are already tucked away in EBS R12 under controlled release by the GL team and have now come to the BIEE and standalone releases in the 10.1.3.4.1+ rollup patch. For the rest of you, its going to be a bit of a waiting game for the relevant teams to uptake the latest BIP release. • iPhone application name on iTunes

  Sorry if these are stupid questions but I couldn't find answers :( Is there any way to set the display name of the application which is shown on iPhone and on iTunes different? The name that I wrote to "Display bundle name" in info.plist is shown both on iTunes and iPhone, is there any way to separate them? My second question is: how can I change the genre of my application? Now it's "Unknown Genre".
