Can stacks be created for application windows in mac os x - leopard? For example, if I click on firefox, it should show a stack of all open firefox windows and I could choose between them.
What roles do the Xorg server and a window manager, for example, metacity, play in displaying windows? Does the window manager communicate with the OS or Xorg? Does Xorg then use OpenGl to display things? Can someone explain what exactly the Xorg server does, and what exactly the window manager does, and the differences between the two. Also, if you could show me the Windows equivalent, that would be helpful. Thanks in advance, ell.
For example when we want to open Microsoft Paint we can open run ( windows + R ) and then write 'mspaint' and then enter
so is there any sshortcut command allow me open my shared folders ?
I know that 'mspaint' is just the name of the file 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\mspaint.exe' but i think may be a shortcut command for shared folders
Without booting to Linux, how do you delete a directory that was created in Linux on an NTFS partition that contains a pipe in the file name?
For example:
f:\flac\foreign\Yoshida_Brothers\Best_of_Yoshida_Brothers_|_Tsugaru_Shamisen
Tried and failed:
Midnight Commander
Recursively deleting the parent folder
del /f /s /q Yoshida_Brothers
del /f /s /q "\\?f:\flac\foreign\Yoshida_Brothers\
rmdir /s Yoshida_Brothers
FileASSASSIN
Other ideas?
I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, but...
I need a scanner (paper feed scanner) where depending on either a barcode, or number, or some identifier on the paper being scanned, creates a PDF file with a name based on that identifier.
For example: If I scanned a page with the number 12345 on the top-left of the page, a PDF file named 12345.pdf would be created.
Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated!
Hi
How can I get IIS7 to serve an default image instead of a 404 html page, when an image is requested?
e.g.
request for: http://www.example.com/myImage.jpg
myImage.jpg does not exist, so we deliver another image instead?
Thanks

Hello,
By luck do you know a software on Windows (Vista) which can easily split a big folder (and its contents) into several small new folders ?
notes:
the new small folders should be independent
the "file splitter" that I have already tested don't do alas the "folder splitter" job ! ;(
Example :
I have a main big folder
C:\big\ (size: about 3Go)
The result I need :
C:\big01\ (size: about 200MB)
C:\big02\ (size: about 200MB)
etc...
Thanks in advance ;)
Hello,
I can connect to a remote machine using ssh,
I would like to open a URL from the remote machine. Well, I can do this using lynx (a command line browser), but then, javascript etc... gets messed up.
Is there a way I can open the URL and see it in my local machine firefox browser for example ??
Thanks
I am using gnuplot (Version 4.4 patchlevel 2) to generate rowstacked histograms, very similar to the example called "Stacked histograms by percent" from the gnuplot demo site at
http://www.gnuplot.info/demo/histograms.html
I want to display the values of each stacked box within it.
I.e. I want to display the actual numerical value (in percent and/or the absolute number) of each box.
How can I do that?
Kindly give me the full path of regedit from where I can disable the windows notification. For example if I disable the ctrl+alt+del from regedit, after disabling windows sends me the notification that Task manager have been disable by your administrator. I don't need these type of notification. Kindly guide me.
when I install stuff under built-in Administrator - the other users cannot see the changes. for example I changed VS2012 install - added Blend and few other features - and they are invisible under another user - my 'Microsoft account' ...
I surely don't want this kind of behavior. Can it be changed?
EDIT: I want those apps 'legitimately installed' for all users so I can use Search and see them on my Start screen.
Is there a way to forcibly terminate an SSH session in PuTTY, short of closing the PuTTY window?
For example, in OpenSSH, I can use the ~. escape sequence to kill the connection.
This is useful when the SSH session stops responding for some reason, but I don't want to lose any of my current session-specific settings. In that case, I'd like to kill the session and then use Restart Session to reconnect.
Is it possible to use ntbackup.exe (Windows XP SP3, 32) with two incremental backup plans?
An example:
"My Documents": every day, incrementally to D:\My_Documents.bkf
Drive C: every month, incrementally to D:\All.bkf
As far as I understand it, ntbackup.exe marks files as having been backed up in the file system. Thus, two incremental backup plans would interfere in a bad way. So, I assume that the answer to my question is: No
But maybe I'm wrong...
I was just wondering about the CPU usage while downloading data (say, for example, a movie) from the internet. Can anyone tell me, how much is a processor really in use while downloading and, in the first place, is a processor even really required during download?
What difference does the 'Rank' of DIMMs make to server memory? For example, when looking at server configurations I see the following being offered for the same server:
2GB (1x2GB) Single Rank PC3-10600 CL9 ECC DDR3-1333 VLP RDIMM
2GB (1x2GB) Dual Rank PC3-10600 CL9 ECC DDR3-1333 VLP RDIMM
Given the option of Single Rank vs. Dual Rank or Dual Rank vs. Quad Rank is one always:
Faster?
Cheaper?
Higher Bandwidth?
There are many types of CPUs, like Pentiume, Atom, core 2 duo, core iX (X = 3,5, ....), But I always don't look at them this way! I always look at their speed which in GHZ unit and then compare them with each other.
For example when some CPU is in type of 'X' with 2 GHZ of speed and another one is in type of 'Y' with 2.2 GHZ of speed, I say the second one ('Y') has better speed and also better performance.
Is it a correct way?
Thanks
I'm looking to buy some usb sticks which will mainly be used in tech support for the purposes of removing viruses and booting up various OS's. Therefore, I am looking for the following features:
Write protected switch (so that they may be safely plugged in to potentially infected machines)
As fast as possible (so that loading, for example, a windows recovery, doesn't take forever)
At least 4GB in size
Any other features that might be useful for the above purpose
Price is no object but, of course, the cheaper the better.
for example, to save electricity. Could you make a domain policy that makes a pc go to sleep between the hours of 9 pm and 6 am. You can always turn it back on. It just goes to sleep unless it's being used or it gets woke up.
Thank you.
I want to have a nice little icon displayed when users surf my site like Google for example:
I also, specifically, want my Rss feed to generate such an icon. My Rss feed page has a php extension if that makes any difference.
I am using XAMPP and MediaWiki 1.11.1 and PHP 5.2.12
Is there an easy way in windows to set a given string, like "sidb" to run a program or open a given folder in Windows?
My original idea was to be able to run commands like that in the "Execute" start button menu (or Win + R),so I'd just have to do WIN+R and type "sidb".
What is the best way to accomplish this?
EDIT:
May I rephrase this as : Is there a way to define for example, in systems variables, sibd="C:.......blabla\ and then I'd just have to type "sibd" in Run?
I'm trying to optimize my apache and nginx installations and have been looking for information on how to setup correct number or min/max servers and connections in Apache and worker processes in Nginx.
I was wondering whether or not Apache and Nginx take advantage of multy core processors and how to set configuration in Apache and Nginx?
For example, lets say I have a 4 core processor, should I set workers to 4 in nginx? what should I set spare server in apache to?
I've become so used to aligning windows to a grid on Windows (via Win+Arrow Key) and Linux (via Compiz Grid) that when I sit down at a Mac I want to gouge my eyes out trying to align windows.
Is there any sort of application or service for Mac OS X that handles windows like this?
Here is an example of Compiz Grid plugin.
I have a c project with multiple files (more than 100), the codes are written in Whitesmiths style, but I want to change them into K&R style indentation. Is it possible to do using vim in an automated way ?
For example I have a emacs-lisp script to achieve this --
(progn
(find-file "{}")
(mark-whole-buffer)
(setq indent-tabs-mode nil)
(untabify (point-min) (point-max))
(indent-region (point-min) (point-max) nil)
(save-buffer))
I was wondering if there is a similar trick that could be done with vim.
We have several different environments (developer dekstop, integration, QA, prod) which should have slightly different variants of the same httpd.conf file. As an example, the httpd.conf file configures that httpd should act as a reverse proxy and proxy certain URLs to Jetty, but the hostname of the Jetty instance is different in each environment.
Is there a recommended practice for mangaging these kinds of differences? I looked around the apache documentation for the httpd.conf file and I didn't see anything that does what I need.
