  • DB2 load partitioned data in parallel

    I have a 10-node DB2 9.5 database, with raw data on each machine (ie node1:/scratch/data/dataset.1 node2:/scratch/data/dataset.2 ... node10:/scratch/data/dataset.10 There is no shared NFS mount - none of my machines could handle all of the datasets combined. each line of a dataset file is a long string of text, column delimited. The first column is the key. I don't know the hash function that DB2 will use, so dataset is not pre-partitioned. Short of renaming all of my files, is there any way to get DB2 to load them all in parallel? I'm trying to do something like load from '/scratch/data/dataset' of del modified by coldel| fastparse messages /dev/null replace into TESTDB.data_table part_file_location '/scratch/data'; but I have no idea how to suggest to db2 that it should look for dataset.1 on the first node, etc.

    Hi, I'm developing a web app, and I'd like to log some information to help me improve and observe the app. (I'm using Tomcat6) First I thought I would use StringBuilders, append the logs to them and a task would persist them into the database like every 2 minutes. Because I was worried about the out-of-the-box logging system's performance. Then I made some test. Especially with log4j. First I used log4j 1.2.14 then I realized there was a newer version, so I switched to 1.2.16 Here are the figures (all in millisec) LoggerThread.threadsNumber = 10 1.2.14: 4235, 4267, 4328, 4282 1.2.16: 2780, 2781, 2797, 2781 LoggerThread.threadsNumber = 100 1.2.14: 41312, 41014, 42251 1.2.16: 25606, 25729, 25922 I think this is very fast. Don't forget that: in every cycle the run method not just log into the file, it has to concatenate strings (name + ": " + i), and check an if test (i == 9999). When threadsNumber is 10, there are 100.000 loggings and if tests and concatenations. When it is 100, there are 1.000.000 loggings and if tests and concatenations. (I've read somewhere JVM uses StringBuilder's append for concatenation, not simple concatenation). Did I missed something? Am I doing something wrong? Did I forget any factor that could decrease the performance? If these figures are correct I think, I don't have to worry about log4j's performance even if I heavily log, do I?

  • Efficient way to create/unpack large bitfields in C?

    I have one microcontroller sampling from a lot of ADC's, and sending the measurements over a radio at a very low bitrate, and bandwidth is becoming an issue. Right now, each ADC only give us 10 bits of data, and its being stored in a 16-bit integer. Is there an easy way to pack them in a deterministic way so that the first measurement is at bit 0, second at bit 10, third at bit 20, etc? To make matters worse, the microcontroller is little endian, and I have no control over the endianness of the computer on the other side.

I don't want to keep adding fields to the 'songs' table for this. How can I store song related data a more efficient way? What's the best practice here?

  • C# WPF: Combobox isn't jumping down the list as I type when I use a multiconvert on it.

    Basically, I have a combobox that is built by doing multibinding (multiconverter) for the memberdisplaypath. The problem is if the combobox is selected and I start typing, it doesn't jump down the list. Doesn't it go by what's displayed in the combobox for typing? That is, if the combobox is setup like so: //value/display (please disregard how weird the numbering is...) //ref - the value is built upon an observablecollection of a class. ref / "" ref / "10 - Very much agree." ref / "15 - Somewhat agree." ref / "19 - No weight." ref / "23 - Somwhat disagree." ref / "33 - Very much disagree."   • C# Reading and Writing a Char[] to and from a Byte[]

    Hi, I have a byte array of around 10,000 bytes which is basically a blob from delphi that contains char, string, double and arrays of various types. This need to be read in and updated via C#. I've created a very basic reader that gets the byte array from the db and converts the bytes to the relevant object type when accessing the property which works fine. My problem is when I try to write to a specific char[] item, it doesn't seem to update the byte array. I know a possible solution is to use a private variable called _usercaplas that I set and update as needed however as the byte array is nearly 10,000 bytes in length the class is already long and I would like a simpler approach as to reduce the overall code length and complexity.     I'm having trouble figureing out how to query every item in a certain category and only list the newest 10 items by date. Here is my table layout: download_categories category_id (int) primary key title (var_char) parent_id (int) downloads id (int) primary key title (var_char) category_id (int) date (date) I need to query every file in a main category that lets say has 100 items and 5 child categories and only spit out the last 10 added. I have functions right now that just add up all the files so I can get a count by category, but I can't seem to modify the code to only display a certain amount of items based on the date.

  • Date javascript object from IE cannot be automatically bound to Datetime in ASP.NET MVC

I have noticed than when using the system from within IE (all versions) ASP.NET MVC will fail to bind the datetime to the action that send back the correct events. The sequence of events goes as follows. Calendar posts to server to get events Server ActionMethod accepts start and end date, automatically bound to datetime objects In every browser other than IE the start and end date come through as: Mon, 10 Jan 2011 00:00:00 GMT When IE posts the date, it comes through as Mon, 10 Jan 2011 00:00:00 UTC ASP.NET MVC 2 will then fail to automatically bind this to the action method parameter. Is there a reason why this is happening?   • .NET Remoting Connecting to Wrong Host

    I have an application I wrote which has been running well for 4 years. Yesterday they moved all their servers around and installed about 60 pending Windows updates, and now it is broken. The application makes use of remoting to update some information on another server (10.0.5.230), but when I try to create my remote object, I get the following exception: Note that it is trying to connect to 127.0.0.1, not the proper server. The server (10.0.5.230) is listening on port 9091 as it should. This same error is happening on all three terminal servers where this application is installed.   • SSRS 2008 Interactive Sorting in Sub-Report not working as expected

    I have a (parent) report that has a list. The details group of this list contains one sub-report. So basically if the list has 10 records (rows) the sub-report is executed 10 times. The problem seems to be with interactive sorting in the Sub-Report. It has 4 columns with interactive sorting enabled. When I run the parent report and try to sort columns SSRS "remembers" the previous sort column and sorts by multiple columns at the same time. For example if I sort by Col A then click to sort by Col B, SSRS will preserve the sorting of Col A (and the direction) and then apply the sorting to Col B. However I simply want to sort by Col B and do not want to Col A to be part of the sort. When I try this directly with the sub-report everything works as expected. Any ideas why this is happening?

    Is there a simple way to discard/remove the last result in a queryset without affecting the db? I am trying to paginate results in Django, but don't know the total number of objects for a given query. I was planning on using next/previous or older/newer links, so I only need to know if this is the first and/or last page. First is easy to check. To check for the last page I can compare the number of results with the pagesize or make a second query. The first method fails to detect the last page when the number of results in the last set equals the pagesize (ie 100 records get broken into 10 pages with the last page containing exactly 10 results) and I would like to avoid making a second query. My current thought is that I should fetch pagesize + 1 results from the db. If the queryset length equals 11, I know this is not the last page and I want to discard the last result in the queryset before passing the queryset to the template.

  • How to make gcc on SUN calculate floating points the same way as in Linux

    I have a project where I have to perform some mathematics calculations with double variables. The problem is that I get different results on SUN Solaris 9 and Linux. There are a lot of ways (explained here and other forums) how to make Linux work as Sun, but not the other way around. I cannot touch the Linux code, so it is only SUN I can change. Is there any way to make SUN to behave as Linux?     When I instantiate a textField, I have a number in it that I want to be the default text. The problem is, I can't seem to be able to place that value into the textfield without getting an error. The strange thing about it is that the same TextField is what I use to set the value of the variable containing the number. TextField myTF = new TextField("Number", value, 10, TextField.NUMERIC); When I run this code, I receive an exception stating that value doesn't match the constraints of TextField.NUMERIC. However, when I check the vale of the value of the variable, I get the following output: value = 1234567890 value.length() = 10 The value is set by the same TextField, saved to the phone that I am working on, and when loaded from the phone's settings, throws an exception.

The closest I can come is multiple cubes, so for int[,,,] [5,10,2,7] would be cube 5, row 10, column 2, layer(depth) 7. I'm not sure if this is the best way to visualize a 4-D array, though... and I'm not sure it's the best way to teach it... however it does have the advantage of being extensible ( a row cubes, a table of cubes, a cube of cubes ( 6-d array ) Cubes through time is another way that I can think of it. Am I on the right track here?

    Has anyone had difficulty getting what has otherwise been a solid iPhone app working on the iPad? I was under the impression that iPhone apps would run without problems on the iPad. We are are experiencing crashes (not intermittent - same place, at same time) that we've never gotten on the iPhone or iPod Touch.     Warning: include(): Failed opening 'SiteTest: Firefox.php' for inclusion ... \yii\framework\YiiBase.php on line 418 Yii v1.1.10 PHPUnit v3.6.10 PHPUnit_Selenium v 1.2.6 I get this error when trying to run the example on the book "Agile Web Development with Yii 1.1 and PHP5" I kind of feel that there is a problem with the phrase SiteTest:, it shouldn't be there. But, how do I fix this? UPDATE (SOLVED): Apparently, the problem is not the warning shown above, but there is another error down the road. It says that "curl_init()" is undefined. I already enabled the php_curl extension, but the PHP from CLI is not using the same .ini file as the apache one. So, after I enabled the php_curl in the CLI version of the ini, it works fine now (still giving the warning, but the test is running).
