    I've been managing server installations both on and off Ubuntu flavor for some time - I've become quite adjusted to /etc/init.d/ for restarting servcies. Now I get this message: root@tatooine:~# /etc/init.d/mysql status Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8) utility, e.g. service mysql status Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an Upstart job, you may also use the status(8) utility, e.g. status mysql mysql start/running, process 14048 This seems to have been brought about in the latest LTS of Ubuntu - why? What's so bad about /etc/init.d/ and what/is there a difference between service and /etc/init.d/?

Error log record number: 259343920016 I have just created database with name magenhto inside mysql. Previously I had cpanel and used one click installer. Hence am not aware of how to use that data inside mysql to this new system and are there any more changes.

For Rails 2, you can see the answer to "How do I use long IDs in Rails?"1 In Rails 3, however, this will throw an error. I'm not sure if that's because the class is no long used, or if the code needs to go in the same place. You can see in active_record/connection_adapters/mysql_adapter.rb that the NATIVE_DATABASE_TYPES constant is still defined. What's the correct way to achieve the same effect in Rails 3?

I am looking for a recursive, inplace replace one-liner. This is what I have : perl -p -i -e 's/--/# /g' `fgrep -- -- * ` A sample .sql file : use myDB; --did you get an error I get the following error : Unrecognized switch: --did (-h will show valid options). p.s : fgrep skipping 2 dashes was just discussed here if you are interested.   • Retreiving data from MySQL with html/javaScript on one domain and the PHP file on the other

    I need to retrieve data from a MySQL database, and have it work one way for all types of servers. For example it should work on a server that runs no server side language, it should also work on LAMP, and IIS. I was thinking about using ajax and xmlhttprequest, but learned of the cross domain limitation. I also tried to just include the PHP in a tag, but it comes back with a syntax error in the HTML code created by the PHP file, even though it looks correct. Does anyone know how to fix either of these issues, or have a different way to go about it?

  • HTML stops at a PHP script made to connect to a mysql database. No errors printed.

    I'm trying to set up a login script for PHP using the tutorial on this site. The problem is that the site stops when it hits these lines, no error, no text: <?php $conn = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', 'password') or die('error line7' . mysql_error()); mysql_select_db('mydb', $conn) or die('error line8' . mysql_error()); ?> If I take out these lines, the rest of the html runs perfectly. I've double checked my passwords and everything, nothing is working. I know very little about php and mysql other than what I've learned trying to set this up.

    I recently switched my database from MySQL to PostGres. I also use GeoKit. When I started my app up with the new database already seeded, I get the following error: PGError: ERROR: function radians(character varying) does not exist LINE 1: ...COS(0.661045389762993)*COS(-2.12957994527573)*COS(RADIANS(ti... ^ HINT: No function matches the given name and argument types. You might need to add explicit type casts. Anyone know why this is breaking now? I know GeoKit still works because it's still performing the geocoding in the model per ticket when the database is seeded, it just won't do the distance calculations correctly.

  • Magento, NGINX, PHP-FPM, APC, MEMCACHED, 16gb Ram CentOS, Spiking PHP-FPM to 100% CPU

    I have been trying to resolve my issue of spiking cpu caused by php-fpm processes. I've reduced the php-fpm config settings to: pm = ondemand pm.max_children = 12 pm.start_servers = 2 pm.min_spare_servers = 2 pm.max_spare_servers = 10 pm.max_requests = 500 php_admin_value[memory_limit] = 128M Problem still exists. I'm running a Joomla main site (which is having no problems) and a Magento store in a sub-directory. My server is a Linux CentOS, running NGINX, APC, Memcached, Full Page Cache and php-fpm. My server has 8 cores and 16gb dedicated ram. My host has shut down my server several times the past week because my php-fpm processes are consuming the entire network. A lot of the individual php-fpm processes are getting over 50% cpu. I've hired several "professionals" and none of them was able to help me, so now broke and stumped, I'm turning to you guys for help. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Shouldn't this be set to 80% of available ram? So I have 16gb ram so it should be set at 12G; however, I set it at 10G. What do you think? I made that change and restart everything. Php-fpm is still spiking cpu. And as free server management panel: Virtualmin GPL on centos 5.6 In a new centos 5.6 setup. Using this code for installing virtualmin: wget http://software.virtualmin.com/gpl/scripts/install.sh chmod +x install.sh ./install.sh After setup, i see php is 5.1 and mysql is 5.0 version. And system not supporting php-fpm but supporting fcgid wrapper. So i had php 5.3.6 + mysql 5.5.10 with PHP-FPM, APC installed. But virtualmin not supporting PHP-FPM + fastcgi and its still running on fcgid. I am ultra newbie on server management so i couldnt find workaround after this. I want to switch fcgid wrapper to PHP-FPM + fastcgi at least for 1 virtual server. And if i can find a fix for this section, i want to setup nginx 1.0 as front end reverse proxy for serving static files and passing php files to apache. http://nginxcp.com/ is what i want but its for cpanel.

I think, sudo is defeating here. I'd rather use a mix of setgid/setuid directories and add ACL here and there but I really need to know what are the best practices before starting up. Our servers have %admin, %production, %dba, %users -i.e many groups and many users. Each service (mysql, apache, ...) has its own way to install privileges but members of the %production group must be able to consult configuration file or even log files. There is still the solution to add them into the right groups (mysql...) and set the good permission. But I do not want to usermod all users, I do not want to modify standards permissions since it could change after each upgrade. On the other hand, setting acls and/or mixing setuid/setgid on directories is something I could easily do without "defacing" the standard distribution. What do you think about this ? Taking the mysql example, that would look like this: setfacl d:g:production:rx,d:other::---,g:production:rx,other::--- /var/log/mysql /etc/mysql Do you think this is good practise or should I definetely usermod -G mysql and play with standard permissions system ?     When I'm executing the following statement in Magento with a really large $sku, the execution terminates without any errors thrown what so ever.   • Migrating from Apache2 to Lighttpd creating errors in PHP/mySQL?

    Ok, I've been using basics ubuntu LAMP setups for years now, and I wanted to give lighttpd a try. My LAMP setup run in a virtual machine with scripts running just fine. So I created a new virtual machine, starting with a fresh install of ubuntu and made my setups. On this new VM, lighttpd + php works just fine. (Or at least it seems...) Problem occurs when I take the scripts from my LAMP setup and upload them to the new VM. I'm getting : Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): Access denied for user 'www-data'@'localhost' (using password: NO) My lighttpd setup is configured as php-cgi but not my apache2 setup. Could this be the source of the problem? I think that scripts would be independent of the server configuration, so I doubt it. Also, I know that my DB connexion informations are good (as I can log in via phpmyadmin perfectly). I'm in the dark here, any pointers ? Thanks,

    Ok so I'm making a "simple" web app using the technologies from the topic, recently I found http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex_hibernate.html so I'm following it and I try to apply it to my app, the only difference being I'm working on a Mac and I'm using MAMP for the database (so no command line for me). The thing is I'm having some trouble with retrieving/connecting to the database. I have the remoting-config.xml, persistance.xml, a News.java class (my Entity), a NewsService.java class, a News.as class - all just like in the tutorial. I have of course this line in one of my .mxmls: <mx:RemoteObject id="loaderService" destination="newsService" result="handleLoadResult(event)" fault="handleFault(event)" showBusyCursor="true" /> And my remoting-config.xml looks like this (well part of it): <destination id="newsService"> <properties><source>com.gamelist.news.NewsService</source></properties> </destination> NewsService has a method: public List<News> getLatestNews() { EntityManagerFactory emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory(PERSISTENCE_UNIT); EntityManager em = emf.createEntityManager(); Query findLatestQuery = em.createNamedQuery("news.findLatest"); List<News> news = findLatestQuery.getResultList(); return news; } And the named query is in the News class: @Entity @Table(name="GLT_NEWS") @NamedQueries({ @NamedQuery(name="news.findLatest", query="from GLT_NEWS order by new_date_added limit 5 ") }) The handledLoadResult looks like this: private function handleLoadResult(ev:ResultEvent):void { newsList = ev.result as ArrayCollection; newsRecords = newsList.length; } Where: [Bindable] private var newsList:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection(); But when I try to trigger: loaderService.getLatestNews(); nothing happens, newsList is empty.   • Which is better for multi-use auth, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or LDAP?

    I want to set up an Oracle Linux 6 server that gives users secure IMAP email (with dovecot), Jabber IM, FTP (with vsftpd), and calDav. However, I want each user logon to be able to authenticate all services (e.g. Joe Smith signs up once for a username and password that he can use for email, ftp, and his calendar). My question is, which database service will be best suited for that application? Also, is there a way to link the database with the preexisting server shell logins (e.g. so I can read the root account's LogCheck emails on a different device)?
