• Is `hg pull --rebase` analogous to `svn update`?

  This question assumes there's a "blessed" central repository that members of a team clone from push to when they have contributions that they want other team members to see pull from when they want to see other people's contributions. etc. If so, I would assume hg update is not analogous to svn update (why would there be two commands that do exactly the same thing?). From what I can gather, hg update more like svn revert. Is that correct? • How to retrieve .properties?

  Im developing desktop java application using maven. I got a *.properties file that I need to retrive during execution (src/resources/application.properties). The only thing comes to my mind is to use: private Properties applicationProperties; applicationProperties.load(new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream("src/resources/application.properties"))); This would work if I run my application directly from IDE. I want to to keep outpout hierarchy clear, so I set maven to copy resources folder dircetly to target folder (which is a basedir for the output application). This way application.properties file won't load (since I have target/resources/application.properties but not target/src/resources/application.properties). What is the best way to manage resources so they work both when I debug from IDE and run builded jar file directly?

• Is there an extensible SQL like query language that is safe for exposing via a public API?

  I want to expose some spatial (and a few non-spatial) datasets via a public API. The backend store will either be PostgreSQL/PostGIS, sqlite/spatialite, or CouchDB/GeoCouch. My goal is to find a some, preferably standard, way to allow people to make complex spatial queries against the data. I would like it to be a simple GET based request. The idea is to allow safe SQL type queries, without allowing unsafe ones. I would rather modify something that is off the shelf than doing the entire thing myself. I specifically want to support requesting specific fields from a table; joining results; and spatial functions that are already implemented by the underlying datastore. Ideas anyone?

• Level of SVG SMIL (animation) support among the browsers

  Hi, Does anyone know the current state of SVG SMIL animation support in the popular browsers? It looks like Safari, Chrome, and Opera support it. Firefox has confusing reports in their dev pages about SMIL support having been added, but I don't see it as of v3.6: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=216462 I am ignoring IE since they don't even support SVG at all, and probably never will, much less SMIL. The other thing - just comparing this test page between Safari, Chrome, and Opera: http://srufaculty.sru.edu/david.dailey/svg/ovaling.svg looks like Opera is the only one that renders it correctly. Should we not be using SMIL - kind of looks half-baked in all the browsers (sadly)? Blast. Thanks

  Is it possible to catch a method in the current class the try-catch block is running on? for example: public static void arrayOutOfBoundsException(){ System.out.println("Array out of bounds"); } ..... public static void doingSomething(){ try { if(something[i] >= something_else); } catch (arrayOutOfBoundsException e) { System.out.println("Method Halted!, continuing doing the next thing"); } } If this is possible how will it be the correct way to call the catch method? If this is not possible, could anyone point me in the right direction, of how to stop an exception from halting my program execution in Java without having to create any new classes in the package, or fixing the code that produces ArrayOutOfBoundsException error. • Invalidate (MFC) debug assertion failed error message

  I've made a custom control, and when I want it to repaint on the screen I call Invalidate(), and afterwards UpdateWindow(), but i get message: debug assertion failed for a file afxwin2.inl in line 150 which is: AFXWIN_INLINE void CWnd::Invalidate(BOOL bErase) { ASSERT(::IsWindow(m_hWnd)); ::InvalidateRect(m_hWnd, NULL, bErase); } The thing is that when I run the same app in release mode, it doesn't report any message! So this clue makes me think it's about some environment configuration I should change. What do you think? Thanks.

• How to use a specific Windows SDK with MSBuild?

  I have a large project made of many C++ and C# projects, and a MSBuild (3.5) script to build the whole thing. This script is based on the VCBuild (C++ projects) and MSBuild (C# projects) tasks. It is regularly executed by a Continuous Integration server. I want to be able to select a specific Windows SDK (v6.0A, v7.0, v7.1...) to be used for compilation. As I have many branches in my repository that would ultimately need a different SDK version, I need a way to select the right one before each compilation. On my computer, I have been able to setup a batch script that calls the right SetEnv.cmd before launching the MSBuild script. But this solution is not usable on the CI server as the MSBuild script is executed directly. Do you know of a way to achieve the equivalent of SetEnv.cmd under MSBuild?

The stored procedure has 2 input parameters (@p1 and @p2) and when I enter some test data for @p1 and @p2 within crystal report IDE , every thing is all right. Then, I added the report1 in visual basic 6.0 IDE and added a new form (form1) and a crystal report viewer control on form1. Now please help me: I wanna to show the report1. What codes exactly should I write to show it?How send data user has entered to the stored procedure parameters via application?   Hi, I have a program that is compressing a string in an unknown way. I know a few inputs and the output produced, but I am not sure what is being used to compress the string. Here are my examples. (just 38 x a, no spaces or anything else) In: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" Out: "026900211AA63000026900"   (just 32 x a) In: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" Out: "0209001c1aa7a000020900" (31 x a, then 1 b) In: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaab" Out: "0209000177c553c000020900" (31 x b, then 1 a) In: "bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbba" Out: "0209001e7754f38000020900" In: "Hey wot u doing 2day u wanna do something" Out: "02990011C7C62E78CE6B8E3ACD83E81B37C5C5A6B9D1E1B06963DB5E71155C1000029900" (same as previous string, but with a space at the end) In: "Hey wot u doing 2day u wanna do something " Out: "02A90012C7718B9E339AE2EB360FA02CDF17177A674786DF4B1EDAF388AAE08000000002A90000" The only definite thing I can see so far is digit 2 and 3 are the amount of characters (hex value), ie first one is 26 = 38 Also the first 6 digits are repeated at the end Any help / advice would be great, thanks!

  Hi guys I'm trying to integrate simple machines forum into my custom made membership website. I'm using the SMF API which is available here at http://download.simplemachines.org/?tools. The thing is that its working on my localhost testing server - however on my online server where the system is hosted - its not working. I have set it up so that when the user log into my own custom CMS membership site, he/she is logged in automatically to his/her corresponding account on the forum. However it works on my localhost but online its not working at all.. I log into my site and then browse to the forum to find out I havent been logged in there :( - I think its not creating the cookies or registering the session.. where should I look here. Please do help.

It seems like it should be simple, but I haven't been able to find what looked like equivalent code anywhere. • Overloading properties in C#

  Ok, I know that property overloading is not supported in C# - most of the references explain it by citing the single-method-different-returntype problem. However, what about setters? I'd like to directly assign a value as either a string or object, but only return as a string. Like this: public string FieldIdList { get { return fieldIdList.ToString(); } set { fieldIdList = new FieldIdList(value); } } public FieldIdList FieldIdList { set { fieldIdList = value; } } private FieldIdList fieldIdList; Why wouldn't this be allowed? I've also seen that "properties" simply create getter/setter functions on compile. Would it be possible to create my own? Something like: public void set_FieldIdList(FieldIdList value) { fieldIdList = value; } That would do the same thing. Thoughts?

• Silverlight -> WCF -> Database -> problem

  Hi there, I have some silverlight code that calls a WCF service which then uses the Entity Framework to access the database and return records. Everything runs fine but ... when I replace the Entity Framework code with classic ADO.NET code I get an error: The remote server returned an error: NotFound When I call the ADO.NET code directly with a unit test it returns records fine so it's not a problem with the ADO.NEt code I used fiddler and it seems to say that the service cannot be found with a "500" error. i don't think it's anything to do with the service as the only thing I change is the technology to access the database. Anyone know what i'm missing here?

  In an ASP.NET Web Site project, I've always been able to make changes to the underlying C# code and simply refresh the page in the browser and my changes would be there instantly. I can do the same thing when working with Java and Eclipse - edit my Java source and refresh the page and my changes are there. I cannot do this in ASP.NET MVC though and it is a real downer - I have to stop the running process and make my changes, and then restart debugging. This is a huge waste of time. Am I doing it wrong? What is the best approach to ASP.NET MVC development?

• Displaying desired properties from search results with grails compass

  Hi, I've been stumped with the problem of displaying a selected set of properties returned as a result via a Compass query in grails. I have 300 columns in my domain class and what I'd like to do is to return ONLY THOSE values I specify (around 10 - 15 properties/fields/columns). All the 300 columns have been indexed, btw. I know I can do this using Lucene by cycling through returned hits and selectively calling a=getField(column_name), et c. (It won't validate, but who cares?)

• NSTableView setting the sort column?

  I have a NSTableView with multiple columns. clicking each of the columns sorts by the column like in iTunes. However when the tableview first loads the rows are unsorted and no tablecolumn is highlighted or displaying the up/down indicator image. I'm wondering if theres a simple way I can programmatically set the column the table is sorted by and set the indicator image on startup. The only solution I can think of is using [NSTableView setIndicatorImage: inTableColumn:] and [NSTableView setHighlightedColumn:], but that makes it so that clicking on the header doesnt highlight the column. I would rather not have to use tableView:mouseDownInHeaderOfTableColumn: and rewrite the whole click on header to sort thing.

• Changing error message for datatype validation?

  Hey guys, I've a small question on ASP.NET MVC 2. I'm using Data Annotations on my Presentation Model and its model binder per default. But one step back, I want to do the most elementary thing: validation of the data type. Let's say I have an "int ID" on my model and want to edit the according entity in my view. If I enter something wrong like "foo", then I get a model error back, but the validation message is on English. I want to have this message in other languages, too. How can I do this? I remember that in MVC 1 I've written a custom model binder which checks the data types, but that's not what I want to do (at least not in MVC 2). Thus I hope there is a better way...   For an ai-class project I need to implement a reinforcement learning algorithm which beats a simple game of tetris. The game is written in Java and we have the source code. I know the basics of reinforcement learning theory but was wondering if anyone in the SO community had hands on experience with this type of thing. What would your recommended readings be for an implementation of reinforced learning in a tetris game? Are there any good open source projects that accomplish similar things that would be worth checking out? • How do You Get a Specific Value From a System.Data.DataTable Object?

  I'm a low-level algorithm programmer, and databases are not really my thing - so this'll be a n00b question if ever there was one. I'm running a simple SELECT query through our development team's DAO. The DAO returns a System.Data.DataTable object containing the results of the query. This is all working fine so far. The problem I have run into now: I need to pull a value out of one of the fields of the first row in the resulting DataTable - and I have no idea where to even start. Microsoft is so confusing about this! Arrrg! Any advice would be appreciated. I'm not providing any code samples, because I believe that context is unnecessary here. I'm assuming that all DataTable objects work the same way, no matter how you run your queries - and therefore any additional information would just make this more confusing for everyone.
