• form data posted using linq-to-sql not showing until I refresh the page

  I have an asp.net mvc app with a form. When you submit the form, it adds records to the sql database with linq-to-sql. After adding the records, the controller displays the form again, and should show those new values on the form. But, when it displays the form, the values are blank, until you refresh the page. While tracing through the code, I can see the records being added to the database when they are submitted, but the view doesnt display them, unless I refresh. The view is not the problem, it just displays the view model, which is missing the new records immediately after the post. I know this is kind of vague, but wasnt sure what parts of code to include here. Could this have something to do with data context life cycle? Basically, there is a data context created when the form is posted, then a different data context is created in the method that displays the form. Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

The API docs says this will render a partial, but I'm not clear where the name of the :partial template is passed in, either here or in the controller Thanks.

• Need advice on multitab form in ASP.NET MVC

  Hi all, i need an advice on how to implement my form. I have a requirement: i need a form that spans through 5 tabs. Each tab has around 10 fields, some of them empty, some of them must contain data from db and be non editable. Each of these tabs must be a part of one form that is submitted to my controller. The question is: what is the best way to implement this? I was thinking about having partial views on each tab, each view would have its own model class. After form gets filled all data from all partials would go to action that will take care of all of it. Any advices? I am using ASP.NET MVC 1, Entity Framework 1, mvc extensions from Telerik and jQuery

• symfony validation problem

  im testing symfony form validation. the problem is very simple. no matter what i put in the body text area and post it, i keep getting "Required" back. i dont know why. i just have one validation rule. here is the code: code what is wrong/how can i debug? thanks UPDATE: it has something to do with the binding in the controller. cause even if i delete the validation the form will still not be valid and it will be passed to the template but this time without the "Required". so it wont be valid no matter if ive got the validation or not. it has something to do with the embedForm() maybe? someone that has validated an embeded form?

• ruby on rails sub directory inside in the 'Views' main directory

  Hello, am a newbie in ruby on rails and am stuck with a simple problem of routing. I have my controller 'sub' and the 'Views' folder containing the add,edit,new erb files. In my routes file, i have 'map.resources :subs'. Until now, everything is fine. Problem: I moved the add,edit,new erb files into a subfolder called 'admin' inside the 'Views' main directory. I have no idea how to call those erb files from that 'admin' subdir. By default, it is looking for /app/views/subs/index.html.erb, and i want it to look in /app/views/subs/admin/index.html.erb Please can anyone tell me how to do this. Many many thanks

  So what I want to do is, in my main layout, have a menu for logged in users, and a different for anon users. THe layout will be used on every page, so I'm not sure how to do this, as I've seen, the Auth Component can only be used in the controller, this would be nice if I had to do this in only one view, but for every view, how can I do this?   My view uses ModelX to render my HTML form and my controller action takes ModelY as input when saving the form. It seems the typesafe textbox API assumes I am using the same model in both places. Is it possible to use different models and beeing type safe without creating my own helpers ? <% = Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.Text) %> I would like something like this. • Zend Framework: How to handle exceptions in Ajax requests?

  Normally when an exception is thrown, Error controller takes command and displays error page with regular common header and footer. This behavior is not wanted in Ajax request. Because in case of error, whole html page is sent over. And in cases where I'm directly loading the content of http response in a div, this is even more unwanted. Instead in case of Ajax request, I just want to receive 'the actual error' thrown by exception. How can I do this? I think, one dirty way could be: set a var in ajax request and process accordingly. Not a good solution.

• Fake Mouse (C# or C++)

  I need a way to fake that a mouse is connected. The problem: My HTPC (Windows 8) has no mouse connected and I wrote a program to simulate mouse input using my Xbox 360 Controller. This works just fine, the only problem is, that there is no cursor visible (I can move it, but I cant see it). My guess is, that Windows doesn't show a cursor when there is no mouse connected, so I need a way to pretend that a mouse is connected to the PC. Of course, if you know another way to make the cursor visible I would gladly take this solution as well. Regards, Hidden

• Generated PersonController expects Authority to contain word ROLE

  I'm brand new to acegi and relatively new to Grails. I just followed the tutorial to set up a new role and a new user. Every time I saved the user (with a role checked), it saved the user information fine, but not the role associated with the user. I finally dug into the controller code that was generated, and noticed this: private void addRoles(person) { for (String key in params.keySet()) { if (key.contains('ROLE') && 'on' == params.get(key)) { Authority.findByAuthority(key).addToPeople(person) } } } So to be sure I was interpreting it correctly, I added the word ROLE to my authorties, and it worked like a charm. Am I missing something obvious, is this a bug, or.......? The examples showed simple role names like "user" or "manager".

• ASP.NET MVC vs. Jquery/AJAX (Where to draw the dividing line?)

  I am learning MVC and I understand the basics now. It is very good for CRUD pages and has built in HTTP methods to post/get edits/updates. That is nice. This is all very testable by just creating a new controller and testing it. But I was thinking about other web page scenerios when using MVC. What about a page that has 2 listboxes that you add/remove users with. (A button will move the user from one listbox to another) This would be done using Jquery/Javascript... But then what happens to testing? How do you test adding/removing users from a listbox like that example? It seems to me the more jquery you use the less testable the page becomes right? When you get beyond basic forms being filled out then you need to use something more than the standard MVC pages. What is the correct philosophy on this on when am I not understanding ?

• How to set up two models having a has_many association with each other

  I'm looking for a suggestion on how to set up two models, Teacher and Subject. A Teacher can have many Subjects, and a Subject can have many Teachers. Another thing to consider in the relationship between the two models is that a Teacher can create a Subject and add other Teachers to the Subject. I think I'm solid on the basics of the set up for each model: for teacher.rb: has_many :subjects for subject.rb: has_many :teachers and the teachers table should have a subject_id column and the subject table should have a teacher_id column. What I'm not sure about is how to set up the views (and corresponding controller methods) to allow the addition of a Teacher to a Subject. Any suggestions (or links to examples) are greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find anything on this exact case.

• Singleton pattern with Web application, Not a good idea!!

  Hi I found something funny, I notice it by luck while I was debugging other thing. I was applying MCP pattern and I made a singleton controller to be shared among all presentations. Suddenly I figured out that some event is called once at first postback, twice if there is two postback, 100 times if there is 100 postbacks. because Singleton is based on a static variable which hold the instance, and the static variable live across postbacks, and I wired the event assuming that it will be wired once, and rewired for each postback. I think we should think twice before applying a singleton in a web application, or I miss something?? thanks

  Hi Everyone, I am working on adding a custom accessory view, (a button) to a UITableViewCell, and I need it to tell the table view when it is touched, but I can't figure out how to communicate to the table view what button was pressed. Ideally I'd like to somehow call a function like this: [controller tableView:view didSelectCustomButtonAtIndexPath:indexPath usingCell:self]; when my custom view button is pressed. Sorry if this is a bit vague, I'm not really sure how to explain this well. I am basically looking for how to mimic the implementation for tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: without having to subclass UITableViewCell. Thanks for any help.

  Hi, I would like to know if it is possible in rails to run some test cases through my application. I mean, i want show the test results to users. So i was thinking to be able to call my tests through a controller and put the tests output in a dialog.   is it possible to have a common view for both master and detail view controllers. What if I need to add a header image(at top, the very first view) common for both the master and detail view controllers. When the device is in the portrait mode the width of the header image view has to shrink to fit to the detail view controller's view and when the orientation changes to landscape the width of the same header image view has to be expanded that is the width of it has to be 1024.   I added format.js to my controller, yet I still cannot get the js in index.js.erb to execute when I view my index page. The only thing I can figure out is that it must be because of the model name. I had to add ActiveSupport::Inflector.inflections do |inflect| inflect.irregular 'business', 'businesses' end to my inflections.rb file...because my model is called Business. my views/js are located at views/businesses/* Please help before I pull my hair out! All I have in the index.js.erb file is: alert(1); Obviously the goal is that I will get an alert when I finally get the issue fixed, letting me know it is working.
