  • Improve responsiveness of $(...).click on touch interface

    - by Bram W.
I need access to a web-based on screen keyboard which will be used on a touch interface. This example looks nice and functional, however when I try it on an iPad, the responsiveness it very low IMHO. It's not comfortable to use and sometimes whole words are misspelled due to slow response. Is there a way to improve the experience on this type of on screen keyboard? This implementation uses the $('#id').click(...); function to process the events. Is there a better way to achieve the goal of typing on the screen? Are there better plugins out there? Note: The final application will run on different types of devices. For several reasons, native on screen keyboards are no option.

  • [C++] Can all/any struct assignment operator be Overloaded? (and specifically struct tm = sql::Resu

    - by Luke Mcneice
Hi all, Generally, i was wondering if there was any exceptions of types that cant have thier assignment operator overloaded. Specifically, I'm wanting to overload the assignment operator of a tm struct, (time.h) so i can assign a sql::ResultSet to it. I have already have the conversion logic: sscanf(sqlresult->getString("StoredAt").c_str(),"%d-%d-%d %d:%d:%d",&TempTimeStruct->tm_year,&TempTimeStruct->tm_mon,&TempTimeStruct->tm_mday,&TempTimeStruct->tm_hour,&TempTimeStruct->tm_min,&TempTimeStruct->tm_sec); //populating the struct I tried the overload with this: tm& tm::operator=(sql::ResultSet & results) { //CODE return *this; } however VS08 reports: error C2511: 'tm &tm::operator =(sql::ResultSet &)' : overloaded member function not found in 'tm'

  • Anyone know how to use TValue.AsType<TNotifyEvent> properly?

    - by Mason Wheeler
I'm trying to use RTTI to add an event handler to a control, that may already have an event handler set. The code looks something like this: var prop: TRttiProperty; val: TValue; begin prop := FContext.GetType(MyControl.ClassInfo).GetProperty('OnChange'); val := prop.GetValue(MyControl); FOldOnChange := val.AsType<TNotifyEvent>; prop.SetValue(MyControl, TValue.From<TNotifyEvent>(self.MyOnChange)); end; I want this so I can do this in MyOnChange: begin if assigned(FOldOnChange) then FOldOnChange(Sender); //additional code here end; Unfortunately, the compiler doesn't seem to like the line FOldOnChange := val.AsType<TNotifyEvent>;. It says E2010 Incompatible types: 'procedure, untyped pointer or untyped parameter' and 'TNotifyEvent' Anyone know why that is or how to fix it? It looks right to me...

  • Unable to use 'class' as a key in NSDictionary with Xcode 4.5

    - by Vivin Paliath
I'm trying to use a class as a key in an NSDictionary. I looked at the answer to this question and what I have is pretty much the same; I'm using setObject: forKey:. However, XCode complains, saying Incompatible pointer types sending 'Class' to parameter of type 'id<NSCopying>'. The call I have is: [_bugTypeToSerializerDictionary setObject: bugToStringSerializer forKey: [bugToStringSerializer serializedObjectType]]; bugToStringSerializer is an instance of BugToStringSerializer whose concrete implementations implement serializedObjectType. An example of a concrete implementation looks like this: - (Class) serializedObjectType { return [InfectableBug class]; } What am I doing wrong here?

  • where does the professional sheen of a GUI application realistically come from?

    - by JW
I have been playing around with php-gtk recently and in the past I have experimented with Java to make GUI 'hello world' apps. However both these types of applications have had a bit of a clunky (almost childish) look and feel to them. I cannot deny that they are handy for making apps for in-house use (and I totally respect the amount of community effort that goes into these projects). But I would not necessarily be proud to sell it as a commercial application with a price tag of, say, £450 or £1,000. If I wanted to make an application that had the look and feel of, say, Firefox for Windows, or Adobe xyz, what GUI/language should I use? Is the 'professional sheen' or smart look and feel down to the designer or is it the case that, no matter how good a designer is, picking the right GUI framework is essential to get that look?

  • Unit Testing iPhone Code That Uses NSLocalizedString

    - by Jay Haase
I have an iPhone iOS4.1 application that uses localized strings. I have just started building unit tests using the SenTestingKit. I have been able to successfully test many different types of values. I am unable to correctly test any of my code that uses NSLocalizedString calls, because when the code runs in my LogicTests target, all of my NSLocalizedString calls only return the string key. I have added my Localizable.strings file to the LogicTests target. My question is: How must I configure my LogicTests target so that calls to NSLocalizedString will return the localized string and not the string key.

  • MPI4Py Scatter sendbuf Argument Type?

    - by Noel
I'm having trouble with the Scatter function in the MPI4Py Python module. My assumption is that I should be able to pass it a single list for the sendbuffer. However, I'm getting a consistent error message when I do that, or indeed add the other two arguments, recvbuf and root: File "code/step3.py", line 682, in subbox_grid i = mpi_communicator.Scatter(station_range, station_data) File "Comm.pyx", line 427, in mpi4py.MPI.Comm.Scatter (src/ mpi4py_MPI.c:44993) File "message.pxi", line 321, in mpi4py.MPI._p_msg_cco.for_scatter (src/mpi4py_MPI.c:14497) File "message.pxi", line 232, in mpi4py.MPI._p_msg_cco.for_cco_send (src/mpi4py_MPI.c:13630) File "message.pxi", line 36, in mpi4py.MPI.message_simple (src/ mpi4py_MPI.c:11904) ValueError: message: expecting 2 or 3 items Here is the relevant code snipped, starting a few lines above 682 mentioned above. for station in stations #snip--do some stuff with station station_data = [] station_range = range(1,len(station)) mpi_communicator = MPI.COMM_WORLD i = mpi_communicator.Scatter(station_range, nsm) #snip--do some stuff with station[i] nsm = combine(avg, wt, dnew, nf1, nl1, wti[i], wtm, station[i].id) station_data = mpi_communicator.Gather(station_range, nsm) I've tried a number of combinations initializing station_range, but I must not be understanding the Scatter argument types properly. Does a Python/MPI guru have a clarification this?

  • How to pre-check checkboxes in formtastic

    - by trustfundbaby
I have a form I'm trying to set up ... Users can have many posts, and each post can have many people watching it. The Watch model is set up polymorphically as 'watchable' so it can apply to different types of models. It has a user_id, watchable_id, watchable_type and timestamps as attributes/fields. This is soley so that when people comment on a post, users watching the post can get an email about it. What I'm trying to do is show the user a list of users that they can tag on each post, which is not problem. This is what I'm using right now http://pastie.org/940421 The problem with this, is that when you go to edit an update/post ... all the checkboxes are prechecked ... I want it to pre-check only users who are currently watching the post.

  • Parsing Complex Text File with C#

    - by David
Hello, I need to parse a text file that has a lot of levels and characters. I've been trying different ways to parse it but I haven't been able to get anything to work. I've included a sample of the text file I'm dealing with. Any suggestions on how I can parse this file? I have denoted the parts of the file I need with TEXTINEED. (bean name: 'TEXTINEED context: (list '/text '/content/home/left-nav/text '/content/home/landing-page) type: '/text/types/text module: '/modules/TEXTINEED source: '|moretext| ((contents (list (list (bean type: '/directory/TEXTINEED ((directives (bean ((chartSize (list 600 400)) (showCorners (list #f)) (showColHeader (list #f)) (showRowHeader (list #f))))))) (bean type: '/directory/TEXTINEED ((directives (bean ((displayName (list "MTD")) (showCorners (list #f)) (showColHeader (list #f)) (showRowLabels (list #f)) (hideDetailedLink (list #t)) (showRowHeader (list #f)) (chartSize (list 600 400))))))) (bean type: '/directory/TEXTINEED ((directives (bean ((displayName (list "QTD")) (showCorners (list #f)) (showColHeader (list #f)) (showRowLabels (list #f)) (hideDetailedLink (list #t)) (showRowHeader (list #f)) (chartSize (list 600 400)))))))) Thanks!

  • Custom Validator and specifying type of message

    - by user102533
I have a custom validation in the enterprise validation block. The DoValidate method is as shown below. protected override void DoValidate(Double objectToValidate, object currentTarget, string key, ValidationResults validationResults) { if (!IsSalMoreThanMinWage(objectToValidate)) { //Here I need to mark this message as a "Warning" LogValidationResult(validationResults, "Salary is too low for this state", currentTarget, key); } } I'd need to mark this validation failure as a "warning" message. In the front end, when I iterate through the ValidationResults collection and grab a ValidationResult object, I would need to identify and group different types of messages and render them differently. My question is - how do I mark a failure as a warning?

  • Binding multiple arrays for WHERE IN in PostgreSQL

    - by Alec
So I want to prepare a query something like: SELECT id FROM users WHERE (branch, cid) IN $1; But I then need to bind a variable length list of arrays like (('a','b'),('c','d')) to it. How do I go about doing this? I've tried using ANY but can't seem to get the syntax right. Cheers, Alec Edit: After some fiddling around, this is valid syntactically: SELECT id FROM users WHERE (branch, cid) = ANY ($1::text[][]); and then binding the string '{{a,b},{c,d}}' to $1 but throws the error "operator does not exist: record = text". Changing 'text' to 'record' then throws "input of anonymous composite types is not implemented". Any ideas?

  • Resources for TDD aimed at Python Web Development

    - by Null Route
I am a hacker not and not a full-time programmer but am looking to start my own full application development experiment. I apologize if I am missing something easy here. I am looking for recommendations for books, articles, sites, etc for learning more about test driven development specifically compatible with or aimed at Python web application programming. I understand that Python has built-in tools to assist. What would be the best way to learn about these outside of RTFM? I have searched on StackOverflow and found the Kent Beck's and David Astels book on the subject. I have also bookmarked the Wikipedia article as it has many of these types of resources. Are there any particular ones you would recommend for this language/application?

  • Database Design: A proper table design for large number of column values.

    - by Jake
I wish to perform an experiment many different times. After every trial, I am left with a "large" set of output statistics -- let's say, 1000. I would like to store the outputs of my experiments in a table, but what's the best way...? Option 1 Have a table with 1000 columns. Seems like a bad idea. What if the number of statistics one day exceeds the maximum number of columns? Option 2 Have a table with three columns. Let's say, ID, StatisticType, and StatisticValue. That way, you can have as many statistics as you want. However, reading a single experiments statistics becomes more complicated. Moreover, what if different statistics are different data types?? Any suggestions?

  • Format number as I type Expand this post

    - by conorhiggins
Hi I am working on an app at the moment that requires number input to be formatted as the textfield changes as well as perform a calculation. I have the text fields set up so that as the user types notifications are passed out and a calculation is performed. However what I need to do now is format the text to be in this style: €1,000,000 rather than 1000000. I have this working for the output of the calculation already but everytime I try to apply it to the input text the simulator seems to crash or at least freezes for a while. I'd imagine its a simple enough fix.

  • MongoDB - how to join parent and child products by reference

    - by Jaro
    my mongo collection stores products. There are two product types: child and parent. Parent product holds array of its child as reference. Use case: use mydb; child1 = { _id: 1, name: "Child 1", is_child: true, is_parent: false, children : [] } child2 = { _id: 2, name: "Child 2", is_child: true, is_parent: false, children : [] } parent = { _id: 3, name: "Parent product", is_child: false, is_parent: true, children : [1, 2] } db.product.insert( [child1, child2, parent] ); And I'm looking for any query returning { _id: 3, name: "Parent product", is_child: false, is_parent: true, children: [ { _id: 1, name: "Child 1", is_child: true, is_parent: false, children : [] }, { _id: 2, name: "Child 2", is_child: true, is_parent: false, children : [] } ] } I'm newbie to mongodb, but I guess an usage of map-reduce could solve the problem. Can anyone advice? Thx

  • Ruby on Rails - f.error_messages not showing up

  • Worst side effects from chars signedness. (Explanation of signedness effects on chars and casts)

    - by JustSmith
I frequently work with libraries that use char when working with bytes in C++. The alternative is to define a "Byte" as unsigned char but that not the standard they decided to use. I frequently pass bytes from C# into the C++ dlls and cast them to char to work with the library. When casting ints to chars or chars to other simple types what are some of the side effects that can occur. Specifically, when has this broken code that you have worked on and how did you find out it was because of the char signedness? Lucky i haven't run into this in my code, used a char signed casting trick back in an embedded systems class in school. I'm looking to better understand the issue since I feel it is relevant to the work I am doing.

  • Serving Advertisements - What should the View be responsible for?

    - by jboyd
My requirements are that Ads have a definite size, could be different media types (although I'd like to focus on Images first) and need to have their impressions tracked I'm using Spring-MVC and will likely have a service that will retrieve all the relevant ad information adService.getAdsForPage("news"); adService.getFeaturedAd("news"); and so on... My question is, what will my view be responsible for? I need to track impressions, and I can only really think of how to do that on the server side. But what would my view look like. I'd like any example code, ideas, or a link to a page that has some in depth discussion of this topic

  • PHP specifying a fixed include source for scripts in different directories

    - by Extrakun
I am currently doing unit testing, and use folders to organize my test cases. All cases pertaining to managing of user accounts, for example, go under \tests\accounts. Over time, there are more test cases, and I begin to seperate the cases by types, such as \tests\accounts\create, \tests\account\update and etc. However, one annoying problem is I have to specify the path to a set of common includes. I have to use includes like this: include_once ("../../../../autoload.php"); include_once ("../../../../init.php"); A test case in tests\accounts\ would require change to the include (one less directory level down). Is there anyway to have them somehow locating my two common includes? I understand I could set include paths within my PHP's configurations, or use server environment variables, but I would like to avoid such solutions as they make the application less portable and coupled with another layer which the programmer can't control (some web-host doesn't allow configuration of PHP's configuration settings, for example)

  • What division operator symbol would you pick?

    - by Mackenzie
I am currently designing and implementing a small programming language as an extra-credit project in a class I'm taking. My problem is that the language has three numeric types: Long, Double, and Fraction. Fractions can be written in the language as proper or improper fractions (e.g. "2 1/3" or "1/2"). This fact leads to problems such as "2/3.5" (Long/Double) and "2/3"(Long/Long) not being handled correctly by the lexer. The best solution that I see is to change the division operator. So far, I think "\" is the best solution since "//" starts comments. Would you pick "\", if you were designing the language? Would you pick something else? If so, what? Note: changing the way fractions are written is not possible. Thanks in advance for your help,

  • FileInputStream for a generic file System

    - by Akhil
I have a file that contains java serialized objects like "Vector". I have stored this file over Hadoop Distributed File System(HDFS). Now I intend to read this file (using method readObject) in one of the map task. I suppose FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream("hdfs/path/to/file"); wont' work as the file is stored over HDFS. So I thought of using org.apache.hadoop.fs.FileSystem class. But Unfortunately it does not have any method that returns FileInputStream. All it has is a method that returns FSDataInputStream but I want a inputstream that can read serialized java objects like vector from a file rather than just primitive data types that FSDataInputStream would do. Please help!
