  • What is this type of sound effect called?

    There is a sound typically associated with a bright flash of light, which starts with a lower whirring noise, then breaks into a higher pitched sound. What is that type of sound called? I'm not sure how to begin searching for that, so a typical name for it would be very helpful. It's something similar to what occurs at 0:41 in this youtube video (here's a link to a few seconds beforehand), where Naruto 6 tails transforms into Kyuubei in Naruto Generations.

  • Mirroring: what happens if principal loses contact with both mirror and wittness?

    Imagine a database mirroring setup where you have two LANs with a WAN link in between. Let's call them site A and site B. Say that principal is currently in site A, and both mirror and witness are in site B. I.e., we are running database mirroring with a witness, and assuming we are running safety FULL (synchronous), we have auto-fail over.   • Multiple readers on FIFO

    I've asked a question here before about multiple writers on a FIFO, and I know now that the write is thread safe as long as I write less than the PIPE_BIF, here is the link for that limit. What about read? what if have two(or more) readers in multiple threads for reading from the same fifo, do I need locks here? or all I need is to read less than the PIPE_BUF? BTW, I'm talking about Linux FIFO, And I'm using C.

    I have 301 redirects which direct /index.html to /site folder and when i created a sub-domain it also redirects the link to /site which causes 404 Not Found ex. members.mysite.com redirects to members.mysite/site which causes 404 error can I add execption for specific forlder or something without changing the redirect. htaccess content AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .htm .html RedirectMatch 301 ^/index.html(.*)$ /site$1

    I noticed almost all of StackExchange's sites uses the same url in mobile browser, I think this is cool because when I share something on my phone, people viewing the link would not see a mobile webpage on their desktop. What is this specification called by W3C? How do I find other websites that use this technology. I noticed that ArsTechnica and the Telegraph used the same url with their desktop version.
