• Mysql: ROLLBACK for multiple queries

  Hi I have more than three MySql queiries in a PHP script triggered by scheduled task. If a query catch an error, script throw an exception and rollback that Mysql query. It works fine. However if first query works fine, but not 2nd query, throw an exception, it rollback 2nd one but not 1st query. I am using begin_trans(), commit and rollback() for individual queries because Sometimes i need to rollback one query, sometimes all queries. Is there any way to rollback one query or all queries? Thanks in advance UPDATE: I got it working, there was no problem with in begin_trans(), commit and rollback(), the database connection config was different for one query from other queries, crazy code without any comments!!!

• How can I dismiss keyboard in iPhone OS 3.2 with text field in popover?

  I have several text fields in a custom uiviewcontroller subclass, which is displayed within a popover. The popover is displayed form a bar button. I want the keyboard to go down when the popover is dismissed (either by the user tapping the bar button again, or tapping outside the popover. From the view controller that displays the popover, when the popover is dismissed, in either of the 2 fashions, I call [optionsController dismissFirstResponder]; Optionscontroller is the uiviewcontroller subclass in the popover. Dismissfirstresponder is a method I defined: -(void)dsimissFirstResponder { [nameField resignFirstResponder]; [descriptionField resignFirstResponder]; [helpField resignFirstResponder]; } Those are three IBoutlets which I connected in the xib to the text fields. That doesn't work. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

• Can a CWinApp be placed in a DLL?

  I'm updating some legacy apps to Visual Studio 10 and am in linker hell. All of these DLLs derive classes from CWinApp and use AfxGetApp() to get access to the object. When I link the DLLs I get unresolved externals that look like global static objects that would get pulled in by a normal app's main(): Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static struct CRuntimeClass const CException::classCException" (?classCException@CException@@2UCRuntimeClass@@B) Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static struct CRuntimeClass const CFrameWnd::classCFrameWnd" (?classCFrameWnd@CFrameWnd@@2UCRuntimeClass@@B) Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static class CRect const CFrameWnd::rectDefault" (?rectDefault@CFrameWnd@@2VCRect@@B) My current combination of ignore default libraries and additional libraries (the method you can easily google to find the answer to linker hell) is: msvcprtd.lib,mfc100d.lib,mfcs100d.lib,libcmtd.lib When I add nafxcwd.lib (the mfc library), these three external symbols resolve but I end up with a bunch of other duplicate symbols (requiring the use of /FORCE:MULTIPLE) and in end __argc and __argv become unresolved. So the basic question is: Can you link a DLL containing a CWinApp in VS10? How do you setup the linker to do it?

  I'm having a look at the date_sunset function in PHP and have met an issue that I find a bit strange. Is is supposed to be like that? If so what is the reason behind that?

• Exception Class: When to Derive from it, In C# (.Net)?

  I am continuing with my exam revision. I have come across the usage of the Base Exception class and I have seen it on exam papers also. My question is when do you derive from the Base Exception class? I am of the impression if you want a custom class to throw an exception with more meaningful information, then you can create a custom exception class that contains the exact data that is representative of how your custom class is used and what scenario it is designed to be used for? Why can't my custom exception class derive from 'ApplicationException' or 'SecurityException' or the base 'Exception' class? I am of the impression that I should derive from the base Exception class and not the previous two. My question second is, when would you derive from the other two??? Are there any clear-cut distinctions as to when you would derive from either one of these three? Assuming there are no others I have I have missed out? Thanks, Ibrar

• OpenGL extensions available on different Android devices

  I'm in the process of writing an OpenGL ES powered framework for my next Android game(s). Currently I'm supporting three different techniques of drawing sprites: the basic way: using vertex arrays (slow) using vertex-buffer-objects (VBOs) (faster) using the draw_texture extension (fastest, but only for basic sprites, i.e. no transforming) Vertex arrays are supported in OpenGL ES 1.0 and thus in every Android-device. I'm guessing most (if not all) of the current devices also support VBOs and draw_texture. Instead of guessing, I'd like to know the extensions supported by different devices. If majority of devices support VBOs, I could simplify my code and focus only on VBOs + draw_texture. It'd be helpful to know what different devices support, so if you have an Android-device, do report the extensions list please. :) String extensions = gl.glGetString(GL10.GL_EXTENSIONS); I've got a HTC Hero, so I can share those extensions next.

• Should integration testing of DAOs be done in an application server?

  I have a three tier application under development and am creating integration tests for DAOs in the persistence layer. When the application runs in Websphere or JBoss I expect to use the connection pooling and transaction manager of those application servers. When the application runs in Tomcat or Jetty, we'll be using C3P0 for pooling and Atomikos for transactions. Because of these different subsystems, should the DAO's be tested in a fully configured application server environment or should we handle those concerns when integration testing the service layer? Currently we plan on setting up a simple JDBC data source with non-JTA (i.e. resource-local) transactions for DAO integration testing, thus no application server is involved....but this leaves me wondering about environmental problems we won't uncover.

• VBA Tab Key putting actual Tab Value in Text Box instead of navigating to next control

  I have a VBA form (in Excel if that matters) that contains text boxes. On three occasions, I have found myself pressing the tab key to navigate to the next control, but instead an actual TAB is being put in the text box. The form normally acts as it should, but it does concern me that this gremlin is showing up sporadically. It has shown up on Office 2003 as well as Office 2007 on two different computers. Has anyone else encountered this problem and, if so, how did you fix it?

• JavaScript onload/onreadystatechange not firing when dynamically adding a script tag to the page.

  I am developing a bookmarklet that requires a specific version of jQuery be loaded on the page. When I have to dynamically insert a jQuery script tag to meet the requirments of the bookmarklet I want to wait for the onload or onreadystatechange event on the script tag before executing any function that requires jQuery. For some reason the onload and/or onreadystatechange events do not fire. • How do you assign a variable with the result of a if..else block?

  I had an argument with a colleague about the best way to assign a variable in an if..else block. His orignal code was : @products = if params[:category] Category.find(params[:category]).products else Product.all end I rewrote it this way : if params[:category] @products = Category.find(params[:category]).products else @products = Product.all end This could also be rewritten with a one-liner using a ternery operator (? :) but let's pretend that product assignment was longer than a 100 character and couldn't fit in one line. Which of the two is clearer to you? The first solution takes a little less space but I thought that declaring a variable and assigning it three lines after can be more error prone. I also like to see my if and else aligned, makes it easier for my brain to parse it!

  I have three tables (user, friends, posts) and two users (user1 and user2). When user1 adds user2 as friend then user1 can see the posts of user2 just like on Facebook. But only the posts after the date when user1 added user2 as friend. How can I fix it?

• Python Imaging: YCbCr problems

  Hi, I'm doing some image processing in Python using PIL, I need to extract the luminance layer from a series of images, and do some processing on that using numpy, then put the edited luminance layer back into the image and save it. The problem is, I can't seem to get any meaningful representation of my Image in a YCbCr format, or at least I don't understand what PIL is giving me in YCbCr. PIL documentation claims YCbCr format gives three channels, but when I grab the data out of the image using np.asarray, I get 4 channels. Ok, so I figure one must be alpha. Here is some code I'm using to test this process: import Image as im import numpy as np pengIm = im.open("Data\\Test\\Penguins.bmp") yIm = pengIm.convert("YCbCr") testIm = np.asarray(yIm) grey = testIm[:,:,0] grey = grey.astype('uint8') greyIm = im.fromarray(grey, "L") greyIm.save("Data\\Test\\grey.bmp") I'm expecting a greyscale version of my image, but what I get is this jumbled up mess: http://i.imgur.com/zlhIh.png Can anybody explain to me where I'm going wrong? • Why will this code compile using ifort compiler and not when using gfortran compiler? Help!

  I'm rewriting some code to make a program compile with the gfortran compiler as opposed to ifort compiler I usually use. The code follows: _Subroutine SlideBits (WORD, BITS, ADDR) Implicit None Integer(4) WORD Integer(4) BITS Integer(4) ADDR Integer(4) ADDR1 ADDR1 = 32 - ADDR WORD = (WORD .And. (.Not.ISHFT(1,ADDR1))) .Or. ISHFT(BITS,ADDR1) End_ When I compile the above code using the gfortran compiler, I recieve this error: WORD = (WORD .And. (.Not.ISHFT(1,ADDR1))) .Or. ISHFT(BITS,ADDR1) Error: Operand of .NOT. operator at (1) is INTEGER(4) All three of the variables coming into the subroutine are integers. I've looked around a bit and the gfortran wiki states that the gfortran compiler should be able to handle logical statments being applied to integer values. Several other sites I've visited either quote from the gnu wiki or agree with it. This is the first time I've seen this error as the Intel Fortran compiler (ifort) I normally use compiles cleanly.

  How I can setup my rails app to respond to such urls: http://mydomain.com/white-halogene-lamp http://mydomain.com/children-lamps http://mydomain.com/contact-form The first one should link to my products controller, and show my product with this name The second one should link to my categories controller, and show the category with this name The third one should link to my sites controller, and show the site with this title. All three models (product, category, site) have a method to_seo, giving the mentioned above urls (after the slash) I know it's not the restful way, but please don't disuss here, it is wrong approach or not, that's not the question. The question is how to accomplish this weird routing ? I know we have catch all routes, but how I can tell rails to use different controllers on different urls in the catch all route ? Or have You an better idea ? I would avoid redirects to other urls.

  Hello, Here's how the situation looks : I have a couple simple forms <form action='settings.php' method='post'> <input type='hidden' name='setting' value='value1'> <input type='submit' value='Value1'> </form> Other small forms close to it have value2, value3, ... for the specific setting1, etc. Now, I have all these forms placed on the settings.php subpage, but I'd also like to have copies of one or two of them on the index.php subpage (for ease of access, as they are in certain situations rather frequently used). Thing is I do not want those forms based on the index.php to redirect me in any way to settings.php, just post the hidden value to alter settings and that's all. How can I do this with JS ? Cheers

• How do I transfer this logic into a LINQ statement?

  I can't get this bit of logic converted into a Linq statement and it is driving me nuts. I have a list of items that have a category and a createdondate field. I want to group by the category and only return items that have the max date for their category. So for example, the list contains items with categories 1 and 2. The first day (1/1) I post two items to both categories 1 and 2. The second day (1/2) I post three items to category 1. The list should return the second day postings to category 1 and the first day postings to category 2. Right now I have it grouping by the category then running through a foreach loop to compare each item in the group with the max date of the group, if the date is less than the max date it removes the item. There's got to be a way to take the loop out, but I haven't figured it out!

• Copying Data to a Master sheet from other sheets without duplicates

  I have four workbooks, three of which are for data entries, and the latter which hosts all data entered in the other workbooks; as a matter of fact, it serves as a master workbook. I need code to copy data entered in each workbook in sheet 1 to be copied to the next available row on sheet 1 of the master workbook, but if the data to be copied from these individual workbooks are duplicates, then a message box should pop up displaying that its a duplicate. To be precise, I want the users to type p in column j indicating process, and click a button in the spreadsheet to copy the data to the master sheet. I would be glad for any assistance.   I'm writing a utility that takes in a .resx file and creates a javascript object containing properties for all the name/value pairs in the .resx file. This is all well and good, until one of the values in the .resx is This dealer accepts electronic orders. /r/nClick to order {0} from this dealer. I'm adding the name/value pairs to the js object like this: streamWriter.Write(string.Format("\n{0} : \"{1}\"", kvp.Key, kvp.Value)); When kvp.Value = "This dealer accepts electronic orders./r/nClick to order {0} from this dealer." This causes StreamWriter.Write() to actually place a newline in between 'orders.' and 'Click', which naturally screws up my javascript output. I've tried different things with @ and without using string.Format, but I've had no luck. Any suggestions?
