  • VSS Information

    - by MJ
I'm currently taking care of backups for about 100 clients, and I'm really getting hammered with VSS issues. I've tried many different things, re-regsitering the VSS Dlls, reboots, patches, etc. What I want to know: Where can I find some detailed, technical information about VSS.

  • Build a server in KVM linux

    - by Lai Yu-Hsuan
I owned a linux server. Now there are several users want to build web services on it, but they require different enviroments. For convenience I give a KVM virtual machine root permission to each user. But obviously the linux server has only one IP. How can I deliver the external requests to corresponding virtual machine? (I expect it's somewhat complicated. If so I want at least some docs/websites I can start reading.)

  • How to process requests twice in Apache

    - by Pieter
In order to perform realistic tests for a new backend server, I'd like to process all Apache requests twice. So simply handle all the live requests with the old server, as it's done right now, but then also 'duplicate' the requests to a different virtual host, where the new backend is deployed, which will process the request and log the response. What's the best / most simple way to achieve this in Apache? (the backend is a FastCGI process)

  • Security: Managing network shares remotely on Ubuntu?

    - by Industrial
Hi everyone, I am about to setup a home network server running Ubuntu Server and I'm currently a bit worried about how to handle network shares and permissions in a good way. After working a bit lately with Netgears ReadyNAS's units, I have become really spoiled with how easy it was to set up network shares and giving a specific user different levels of network access to a specific share (forbidden access, read, read/write). How would I accomplish the same with my Ubuntu server through SSH? Thanks a lot

  • creating iTunes listing INCLUDING "Where" information

    - by Hugh
Although iTunes produces a very good comprehensive listing of all music which can be copied and pasted into excel to give a database of music, unfortunately it does not include"where" information as shown on the "Get Info" summary. As, in my own case, music files are in a number of different locations(drives and folders) I would like to be able to identify, quickly and simply, duplicate tracks as the last column in the excel listing. Is there a way to do this?

  • Total RAM % from perfmon Windows Server 2008 R2

    - by Xaxum
I am trying to find a good way to get available RAM percentage from perfmon. I can get Available Mbytes but I can't find any way to get the total installed memory on the server or what is in use via perfmon. I can obviously alert on GB but each of my servers have different total RAM so not a great alert. The way I understand % Committed Bytes is this includes page files on disk so this is not a good indicator. Any help would be appreciated.

    - by cagcowboy
We have recently installed Blackberry Express Server for our UK Blackberry users (who are on Vodafone, not sure if the network matters) Our US users have got wind of this and are hoping we can do the same for them. (They're mostly on AT&T) The UK & US Exchange mailboxes are based on 2 different exchange servers So... Q. Is it possible to support the US users with the current installation/server configuration?

  • Differences between Fedora servers

    - by Yarin
I'm using Amazon EC2 and trying to choose a machine image (AMI) for my project. It seems all their LAMP AMIs are Fedora Core 4, but this seems like quite an old version, considering the current release is apparently Fedora 12, and < 10 releases are no longer supported. My question is how significantly different are the early fedora releases- is it crazy to be on versions 4 or even 8? (I realize this is probably a broad question)

  • Is there any way I can share the 3.42GB download of Windows 8.1 from Windows Store?

    - by LoneWOLFs
Windows 8.1 is out and I would like to know if it is possible to share the Windows 8.1 download upgrade between different computers so that I don't have to download it over and over again? This might be helpful for people who are on a metered connection. Store is downloading 3.42GB of data so it must be stored somewhere. Is there any way I can copy it to my other computers and start the setup so that I don't have to download it over and over again on each computer I own?

  • How do I recover jegs with zero bytes?

    - by Jill
I downloaded some wedding photos into my external drive about a month ago. A total of 3 cards were downloaded into 3 different files. The first file lists all of the photos, about 600 images, but they have zero bytes. The other 2 files are fine. I can't recover the compact flash card because I have used it too many times since then. Is there any way to recover the images on my drive?

  • Windows 7: How to disable auto-maximize/resize window (aero-snap) when near screen edge?

    - by glenneroo
Whenever I drag or resize a window near any edge or corner of either monitor, Windows wants to maximize or resize the window for me in several different ways: dragging a window near a corner offers resize to full-screen dragging directly to the corner offers half-screen maximize resizing to top or bottom edges offers a vertical maximize (one long strip from top to bottom) Actually, now that I think about it the 3rd one isn't so bad, its just the full and half-screen maximize features that drives me mad. Is there a registry hack to disable these settings, preferably independently?

  • How to get back to Lock Screen from Password screen in Microsoft Surface?

    - by GaTechThomas
Similar to question, Can I bring the lock screen back after dismissing it? ('go back a screen' from password entry) How do I go back to the Lock Screen once I've gone to the password screen in Microsoft Surface tablet? This is a different mechanism from using the referenced question in that no physical keyboard is available. Alternately, can the timout on the password screen be shortened?

  • What exactly interpret #!/bin/bash line?

    - by vava
Many scripts in different languages have a #!/bin/bash header with a path to interpreter, so they can be executed without explicit call to interpreter from command line. But what exactly reads this line and run the interpreter, is it shell or kernel?

  • Triple monitor setup in linux

    - by Brendan Abel
I'm hoping there are some xorg gurus out there. I'm trying to get a three monitor setup working in linux. I have 2 lcd monitors and a tv, all different resolutions. I'm using 2 video cards; a 9800 GTX and 7900Gt. I've seen a lot of different posts about people trying to make this work, and in every case, they either gave up, or Xinerama magically solved all their problems. Basically, my main problem is that I cannot get Xinerama to work. Every time I turn it on in the options, my machine gets stuck in a neverending boot cycle. If I disable Xinerama, I just have three Xorg screens, but I can't drag windows from one to the other. I can get the 2 lcds on Twinview, and the tv on a separate Xorg screen no problem. But I don't really like this solution. I'd rather have them all on separate screens and stitch them together with Xinerama. Has anyone done this? Here's my xorg.conf for reference. p.s. This took me all of 30 seconds to set up in Windows XP! p.s.s. I've seen somewhere that maybe randr can solve my problems? But I'm not quite sure how? • What's the difference between DisplayPort, DVI and HDMI?

    - by Leo Bushkin
As an end consumer, are there any significant differences between the newer DisplayPort interface and DVI/HDMI that I should be aware of? I realize they are different connector types and require compatible equipment, I'm primarily interested in whether there are functional or performance benefits of one technology over another. Should I have a preference for one technology or another on newer video card equipment?

  • Can you give one directory two SELinux Policies?

    - by Mike
Out of laziness I want to be able FTP into my WWW directory. However, the SELinux permissions for apache(user_u:object_r:httpd_sys_content_t) to be able to use the WWW directory and for the user(system_u:object_r:user_home_dir_t ) to use the WWW directory are different. Anyway, around this problem without disabling SELinux? Thanks.

  • Reverse proxy a directory through IIS 6 with HTTPS

    - by John P
I have an asp.net based website running on IIS 6 that needs to incorporate a java application running on the same server on a different port. The requests will be coming in via https and I need to invisibly (preserving the https session) proxy domain.com/ over to domain.com:8080/. Does IIS have a built-in mechanism for doing this? If not, are there any reliable free/open source ISAPI extensions that allow it? Thanks in advance

  • SNMP Traps: Telling the difference between sources

    - by MHibbin
I am logging all incoming SNMP traps to file, for further processing, via: snmptrapd -Lf /path/to/my/file.log So this will log all traps coming in on port 162. Is there a way I can tell the differences between different sources, i.e vendors. I believe this would be the "OID" field but i'm unsure. Any thoughts would be welcomed, if not I will just have to use a lookup with IP addresses, but I'm sure I saw that there is a unique part to each vendor. Cheers

  • Hosted file is downloaded damaged by IE

    - by victor hugo
I have a ZIP file hosted via Apache with Akamai as CDN, the problem is when trying to download it with IE (and just IE) it is damaged and I'm unable to open it. Since the problem occurs in other computers in different locations I've discarded network settings (firewall, proxy, etc). I don't even know where start to look? What would be a possible cause for this to happen? UPDATE I'm trying to solve the problem in the server (or CDN), I've verified it's not a client error

  • Backup system, two locations. Recommendations?

    - by Ragnar123
Hi there, I have two servers running Ubuntu 10.10, placed at two different locations. One is production, and one development. I wondered, if any of you had experience with backing up, best practices and alike. I think a smart solution would be to backup the data on the production server to the development server. Also, I have looked into visualization, but it seems like an overkill, assuming the servers only server about 8 users in a small company.

  • Log viewer server and client

    - by Scott Crooks
I'm looking for a log viewing solution for (mostly) Linux and (preferably) Windows too. I want to be able to centralize the log information for a lot of servers so that people in the company can see what's going on for different servers. I would guess this would involve having a central server which accepts information from the various computers / virtual machines with (perhaps) a running daemon on each of the servers. Does such a software exist?
