  • Core Data inserting objects

    I'm trying to get my head around Core Data on the iphone. This is code from Apple's 'Navigation based app using Core data' template (method - insertNewObject) // Create a new instance of the entity managed by the fetched results controller. NSManagedObjectContext *context = [fetchedResultsController managedObjectContext]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [[fetchedResultsController fetchRequest] entity]; NSManagedObject *newManagedObject = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:[entity name] inManagedObjectContext:context]; It seems completely counter intuitive to me that the fetched results controller is used when inserting a new object. I changed the code to this: NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Event" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSManagedObject *newManagedObject = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:[entity name] inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; which works just as well and does not require access to the fetch request. Am I missing something here? Is there any good reason to use the fetched results controller in the insert method?

    have an application that processes real-time data and is supposed to beep when a certain event occurs. The triggering event can occur multiple times per second, and if the beep is already playing when another event triggers the code is just supposed to ignore it (as opposed to interrupting the current beep and starting a new one). Here is the basic code: Clip clickClip public void prepareProcess() { super.prepareProcess(); clickClip = null; try { clipFile = new File("C:/WINDOWS/Media/CHIMES.wav"); ais = AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(clipFile); clickClip = AudioSystem.getClip(); clickClip.open(ais); fileIsLoaded = true; } catch (Exception ex) { clickClip = null; fileIsLoaded = false; } } public void playSound() { if (fileIsLoaded) { if ((clickClip==null) || (!clickClip.isRunning())) { try { clickClip.setFramePosition(0); clickClip.start(); } catch (Exception ex) { System.out.println("Cannot play click noise"); ex.printStackTrace(); } } } The prepareProcess method gets run once in the beginning, and the playSound method is called every time a triggering event occurs. My question is: do I need to close the clickClip object? I know I could add an actionListener to monitor for a Stop event, but since the event occurs so frequently I'm worried the extra processing is going to slow down the real-time data collection. The code seems to run fine, but my worry is memory leaks. The code above is based on an example I found while searching the net, but the example used an actionListener to close the Clip specifically "to eliminate memory leaks that would occur when the stop method wasn't implemented". My program is intended to run for hours so any memory leaks I have will cause problems. I'll be honest: I have no idea how to verify whether or not I've got a problem. I'm using Netbeans, and running the memory profiler just gave me a huge list of things that I don't know how to read. This is supposed to be the simple part of the program, and I'm spending hours on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Michael

That's occurs only on setMainwindow method. So the questions is - why Core class method setMainwindow() is invisible in MainWindow class?

    I have some logic in a method that operates on a specified type and I'd like to create a generic lambda that encapsulates the logic. This is the spirit of what I'm trying to do: public void DoSomething() { // ...   • why is this rails association loading individually after an eager load?

    I'm trying to avoid the N+1 queries problem with eager loading, but it's not working. The associated models are still being loaded individually. Here are the relevant ActiveRecords and their relationships: class Player < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :tableau end Class Tableau < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :player has_many :tableau_cards has_many :deck_cards, :through => :tableau_cards end Class TableauCard < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :tableau belongs_to :deck_card, :include => :card end class DeckCard < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :card has_many :tableaus, :through => :tableau_cards end class Card < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :deck_cards end and the query I'm using is inside this method of Player: def tableau_contains(card_id) self.tableau.tableau_cards = TableauCard.find :all, :include => [ {:deck_card => (:card)}], :conditions => ['tableau_cards.tableau_id = ?', self.tableau.id] contains = false for tableau_card in self.tableau.tableau_cards # my logic here, looking at attributes of the Card model, with # tableau_card.deck_card.card; # individual loads of related Card models related to tableau_card are done here end return contains end Does it have to do with scope? This tableau_contains method is down a few method calls in a larger loop, where I originally tried doing the eager loading because there are several places where these same objects are looped through and examined. Then I eventually tried the code as it is above, with the load just before the loop, and I'm still seeing the individual SELECT queries for Card inside the tableau_cards loop in the log. I can see the eager-loading query with the IN clause just before the tableau_cards loop as well. EDIT: additional info below with the larger, outer loop Here's the larger loop.     Hi I have a web application running in cluster mode with a load balancer. It consists in two tomcats (T1, and T2) addressing only one DB. T2 is nfs mounted to T1. This is the only dofference between both nodes. I have a java method generating some files. If the request runs on T1 there is no problem but if the request is running on node 2 I get an exception as follows: java.io.IOException: Invalid argument at java.io.FileOutputStream.close0(Native Method) at java.io.FileOutputStream.close(FileOutputStream.java:279) The corresponding code is as follows: for (int i = 0; i < dataFileList.size(); i++) { outputFileName = outputFolder + fileNameList.get(i); FileOutputStream fileOut = new FileOutputStream(outputFileName); fileOut.write(dataFileList.get(i), 0, dataFileList.get(i).length); fileOut.flush(); fileOut.close(); } The exception appears at the fileOut.close() Any hint?     I have a WinForms multiselect listbox, and each item in the listbox is of type MyClass. I am also writing a method that needs to take a parameter that is a collection of MyClass. It could be of type MyClass[], List<MyClass>, IList<MyClass>, IEnumerable<MyClass>, etc. Any of those would work fine. Somehow, I need to pass the selected items in the listbox to my method. But how would I convert SelectedObjectCollection to any of the MyClass collection types described above?

  • GKSession sendDataToAllPeers including sender?

    I've got a number of devices connected over wifi using GameKit. I have a simple UIAlertView popping up when peers receive data. All but the sendee show this alert view when data is sent, so I'm wondering if that's a bug in my app or if that's expected behavior. If the device doing the sending is also a GKSessionModePeer, I would expect it to "fire" its receiveData: message as well since I'm sending to all peers. Should I call a method manually at the same on the sendee device? For example, if I wanted to send a "GameStart" packet to the 4 phones, the peers would call startGame: in the receiveData:fromPeer:inSession:context: method when it receives that packet and the sendee would be calling sendDataToAllPeers: and call startGame: on itself. Does that sound right or is there a way to include the sendee in the sendDataToAllPeers: list so that it responds exactly the same as all connected peers?

  • How to control Time zone formatting in System.Xml.Serialization or during application execution?

    I'm developing a C# .Net Application that is executing on a system located in the Central Time Zone. The application gets information from a third party using an API they provide. I have used the WSDL to produce the code that my application access the API with...their reporting API allows you to define a start date and end date for the report. These are C# DateTime fields and XSD:dateTime. Now when I set the start date and end dates and allow the API to create the SOAP messages the dates don't always include a Time Zone unless I set the date fields using the ToLocalTime method; however, the method will create the DateTime fields in the Central Time Zone (CST) but I need to have it create these fields in the Pacific Time Zone (PST). If I set my machine time to PST all is good...but of course that causes other time issues. What methods can I use to control the formatting of the DateTime? Alternatively, is there a application setting that can be set in C# that allows timezone control?

  • Cannot loop through Excel 2003 files in SSIS 2008

    Hi, I am trying to execute a SSIS 2008 package on a 64-bit OS and import Excel 2003 files to SQL Server 2008. I have created an OLEDB Connection to the Excel file with a Connection String that retrieves the Excel file from a variable, inside the ForEach Loop Container. The Run64BitRunTime is set to false. I am not able to edit the SQL Command on the OLEDB Source in the Data Flow task. It returns an error : Error 2 Validation error. Load List Staged Table: Load List Staged Table: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER. The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "List OLEDB to Excel" failed with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed. 0 0 Appreciate any help.

  • How do I improve the efficiency of the queries executed by this generic Linq-to-SQL data access clas

    Hi all, I have a class which provides generic access to LINQ to SQL entities, for example: class LinqProvider<T> //where T is a L2S entity class { DataContext context; public virtual IEnumerable<T> GetAll() { return context.GetTable<T>(); } public virtual T Single(Func<T, bool> condition) { return context.GetTable<T>().SingleOrDefault(condition); } } From the front end, both of these methods appear to work as you would expect. However, when I run a trace in SQL profiler, the Single method is executing what amounts to a SELECT * FROM [Table], and then returning the single entity that meets the given condition. Obviously this is inefficient, and is being caused by GetTable() returning all rows. My question is, how do I get the query executed by the Single() method to take the form SELECT * FROM [Table] WHERE [condition], rather than selecting all rows then filtering out all but one? Is it possible in this context? Any help appreciated, Lee

    I need to implement a method that takes an address split up into individual parts and returns any matching items from an address table. If no matches are found, I want to be able to return a value indicating where it failed. Each input param has a corresponding field in the table. The signature would look something like this: List<Address> MatchAddress(string zipCode, string streetName, string houseNumber, string houseLetter, string floor, string appartmentNo, out int mismatchPosition) { // return matching addresses // if none found, return the position where it stopped matching // zipCode is position 0, appartmentNo is position 5 // // an empty param value indicates "don't check" } I know I can construct the method such that I start with all the parameters, execute the query and then remove param by param (from the right side) until either a match is found or I run out of parameters, but can I construct a query that is more effective than that, i.e minimizing the number of calls to the db, maybe even as a single call?

    I know there are LOT of questions like that but I can't find one specific to my situation. I have 4x4 matrices implemented as NIO float buffers (These matrices are used for OpenGL). Now I want to implement a multiply method which multiplies Matrix A with Matrix B and stores the result in Matrix C. So the code may look like this: class Matrix4f { private FloatBuffer buffer = FloatBuffer.allocate(16); public Matrix4f multiply(Matrix4f matrix2, Matrix4f result) { {{{result = this * matrix2}}} <-- I need this code return result; } } What is the fastest possible code to do this multiplication? Some OpenGL implementations (Like the OpenGL ES stuff in Android) provide native code for this but others doesn't. So I want to provide a generic multiplication method for these implementations.

  • How do I pass a reference type to Control.Invoke / display a form centered on the main form

    I'm on a thread other than the UI thread and need to display a modal form that's centered on the application's main form. What I usually do is use the width and height of the main form and the modal form to calculate the location, then use the PointToScreen method of the main form to get the location of the modal form. Since I'm on another thread I need to use Control.Invoke to call this method. I just can't figure out how to pass a parameter of type Point to Control.Invoke (params object[]). Value types and String works fine. Or, if someone can find a better way to display a form centered on the main form regardless of thread, that would be great. MessageBox seems to be able to do this (although not modally).

    Hi I have set a property in a constructor like so function __construct() { $this->count = count(@$_SESSION['filearray']); //count how many files in array } and using it in condition statements if($this->count > 10) //then do something but it appears the count isn't being updated when I use another method of injecting values into this 'filearray' until I refresh the page. am I doing something wrong? I thought that my constructor would detect a change had been made in the session and whenever I call $this-count I would get the current count value but it seems to be 1 step behind until I refresh the page. If this is all vague I can include my form page that has all the method calls, but this is the jist of my question, why is my property not updating and how do I fix it :) TIA

I tried the following linked server method: SELECT * INTO db1.dbo.table1 FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0', 'Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls)};DBQ=c:\renju.xls', 'SELECT * FROM [sheet1$]') But it is returing an error as: OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "(null)" returned message "Could not find installable ISAM.". I'm using Excel 2003, and I've already added the linked server for "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0."

    Hi, I'm trying to integrate Sugar CRM with one of my projects. I'm using Apache Axis as my SOAP client. I've created the Sugar CRM client Stub classes using Apache Axis. I'm able to login and add Leads, Opportunities, Accounts and Contacts. But I'm unable to add a relation ship between my Account and Opportunity. I've found following method in the SugarsoapPortType port.set_relationship(session, module_name, module_id, link_field_name, related_ids, name_value_list, delete) but I cannot understand the different parameters required by this method.
