• file corruption on read/write 2.6.32-22-server (happens across many kernels)

  Hi Guys, I'm having an issue where after the server has been up for a period of time (~week/few days) the server will start reading corrupt data. For instance when I run a sha1sum of a file after a fresh boot it remains the same. However after a while I will start to get segfaults and from then on whenever I read this file I get a different sha1sum. • How can I verify the integrity of a WAN connection?

  We have two scanners in our branch office which upload images to the head office via FTP. In the last week, both scanners have started delivering a lot of corrupted images. I suspect that the problem may be with the WAN link, and that TCP might not be detecting/correcting all errors. • If I use a video format converter to change a movie from AVI to MKV, will quality stay the same?

  I know they're both container formats and what matters is the actual codec used, but what I don't know is if video converting software will do anything to change the codec, or if it just repackages. The reason I need to know is that I have several .avi files with subtitle files, and I'm wanting to turn them into .mkv so I can attach the subs and not need a second subtitle file anymore. Will my new .mkv files be identical in video and audio quality to the original .avi?

If I export it to Excel I can tinker around with the results but I would rather that I change the actual report than have users manually change it. • How do I fix a corrupted copy of .Net Framework on Windows 7?

  I receive the following error when trying to run applications that require .net Framework 3.5: "Could not load file or assembly 'System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest." I've tried numerous fixes, such as reinstalling through ad/remove software, copying the .net folder over from a clean windows 7 install, and running the .net cleanup tool. Just wondering if anyone has run into this issue before, or has an idea on how to fix it.

  On a lenovo ThinkServer RD240 running firmware 1.20 with the latest BNC software, using the remote console to redirect a CD-ROM fails with the error: "CD-ROM redirection is not supported on this platform". Similar error for forwarding an iso image, foppy and USB drive. I tried executing the management console from Ubuntu, Windows 7 and OS X with the exact same error. The question is: What platform does the jViewer console support any kind of media redirection?

  I have this situation: the drummer records the track (8 tracks in a multitrack session). Now, how do I check how distant are the recorded beats from their theoretical position i.e.: there is always some error in human recorded tracks, but is there any software that can show me the ideal (theoretical, quantized) beat and the recorded one and could alert me if the error is too big. P.S.: I'm searching for a standalone tool, or for a plugin that can work with Adobe Audition 3 or Nuendo 3.

• Is there a way to suppress keyboard sounds picked up by a desktop microphone in Windows 7?

  The problem I'd like to solve is that my desktop microphone picks up all my keystrokes very loudly compared with my voice. Even just lightly tapping a key without depressing it causes a loud click to be picked up. I'd like a way to filter out this type of sound, while picking up voice normally.   We have a MySQL database on EC2 and are looking at the disk IO performance there. Currently we have a single EBS volume with XFS and take snapshots for backup. It seems that a lot of people have seen significant performance gains by striping across multiple EBS volumes with software RAID. If this is done, how does one take snapshots and ensure the consistency of the file system? It seems to me that restoring the file system from multiple snapshots could be tricky.

  Our hardware vendor has sold us a laptop that comes with Windows 7 Pro OEM. Since we want Windows 7 Enterprise (for features like DirectAccess and BitLocker), the vendor has supplied us with a Software Assurance only license to upgrade OEM Win 7 Pro to Win 7 Ent. Do I need to install Windows 7 Enterprise Volume License media and re-install Windows, or is there a process to turn this existing Windows 7 Pro install into an "Enterprise" ?
