  • Excel 2010 Move data from multiple columns to single row

    So frustrating! I get data sent to me and it looks like this: a 1 a --2 2 a-------3 3 b 1 b-- 2 2 b ------ 3 3 b------------ 4 4 and i need it to look like this: a 1 2 2 3 3 b 1 2 2 3 3 4 4 I have about 30 columns that needs to move to the top value in their group, then removing the duplicates. I have been searching forums for several days and trying bits and pieces of code. I am having such a tough time with VBA!!!!

  • Word 2010 doc skips pages

    A Word document with 9 pages, 3 section brakes next page (no odd and even breaks used) and inserted page numbers shows the correct sequence of pages when moving thru the document. When I change the page numbers in section 2 to start from 1 (Section 1 is only one page numbered with a roman numeral.) Then two strange things happen: The sequence in the status bar goes from 1 to 3. Page 2 disappeared (no text is missing) and my total number of pages reads 10 when i actually only have 9. The first page has a table of contents. Page 2 is listed, but when I press ctrl + click the shortcut it goes to page 4?

  • Biztalk Schema generator in Visual Studio -- How to enable 'Well-Formed XML' ? [migrated]

    I have installed Visual Studio 2010 and Biztalk. I create a new Biztalk-project in Visual STudio 2010. I choose 'Add new item' and then 'New generated schema'. Here I can choose 'Document type'. I choose 'Well-Formed XML (Not loaded)' and choose an input file. Now I get the message 'XFW to XSD schema generation module is not installed. Execute 'C:\Program files (X86)\Microsoft Biztalk Server 2010\SDK\Utilities\Schema Generator\InstallWFX.vbs to install the WFX to XSD schema generation module. I try to execute that file and some text hastily appear on the console. I restart Visual Studio 2010, but it still doesn't work. Apparently the execution of the shell script didn't work. I try to restart the computer, but it still doesn't work. Could anyone tell me what to do?

  • Weird formatting in Word 2010

    A few months ago while writing a paper, I copied some paragraphs created in one computer to a different computer. I guess the formatting was different. Please see the following image: I noticed that a strange formatting has also been imported. I thought it would go away when I select all and choose a format. But the problem did not go away. Now, when I am trying to finish the paper, the weird formatting still remains. Does anyone have any solution? Also, how to make sure that when we copy something from a file with different Styles, we retain the destination style definitions? EDIT I would prefer a solution where I do not have to re-do the formatting manually.

  • Web Platform Installer bundles for Visual Studio 2010 SP1 - and how you can build your own WebPI bundles

    Visual Studio SP1 is  now available via the Web Platform Installer, which means you've got three options: Download the 1.5 GB ISO image Run the 750KB Web Installer (which figures out what you need to download) Install via Web PI Note: I covered some tips for installing VS2010 SP1 last week - including some that apply to all of these, such as removing options you don't use prior to installing the service pack to decrease the installation time and download size. Two Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Web PI packages There are actually two WebPI packages for VS2010 SP1. There's the standard Visual Studio 2010 SP1 package [Web PI link], which includes (quoting ScottGu's post): VS2010 2010 SP1 ASP.NET MVC 3 (runtime + tools support) IIS 7.5 Express SQL Server Compact Edition 4.0 (runtime + tools support) Web Deployment 2.0 The notes on that package sum it up pretty well: Looking for the latest everything? Look no further. This will get you Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 and the RTM releases of ASP.NET MVC 3, IIS 7.5 Express, SQL Server Compact 4.0 with tooling, and Web Deploy 2.0. It's the value meal of Microsoft products. Tell your friends! Note: This bundle includes the Visual Studio 2010 SP1 web installer, which will dynamically determine the appropriate service pack components to download and install. This is typically in the range of 200-500 MB and will take 30-60 minutes to install, depending on your machine configuration. There is also a Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Core package [Web PI link], which only includes only the SP without any of the other goodies (MVC3, IIS Express, etc.). If you're doing any web development, I'd highly recommend the main pack since it the other installs are small, simple installs, but if you're working in another space, you might want the core package. Installing via the Web Platform Installer I generally like to go with the Web PI when possible since it simplifies most software installations due to things like: Smart dependency management - installing apps or tools which have software dependencies will automatically figure out which dependencies you don't have and add them to the list (which you can review before install) Simultaneous download and install - if your install includes more than one package, it will automatically pull the dependencies first and begin installing them while downloading the others Lists the latest downloads - no need to search around, as they're all listed based on a live feed Includes open source applications - a lot of popular open source applications are included as well as Microsoft software and tools No worries about reinstallation - WebPI installations detect what you've got installed, so for instance if you've got MVC 3 installed you don't need to worry about the VS2010 SP1 package install messing anything up In addition to the links I included above, you can install the WebPI from http://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx, and if you have Web PI installed you can just tap the Windows key and type "Web Platform" to bring it up in the Start search list. You'll see Visual Studio SP1 listed in the spotlight list as shown below. That's the standard package, which includes MVC 3 / IIS 7.5 Express / SQL Compact / Web Deploy. If you just want the core install, you can use the search box in the upper right corner, typing in "Visual Studio SP1" as shown. Core Install: Use Web PI or the Visual Studio Web Installer? I think the big advantage of using Web PI to install VS 2010 SP1 is that it includes the other new bits. If you're going to install the SP1 core, I don't think there's as much advantage to using Web PI, as the Web PI Core install just downloads the Visual Studio Web Installer anyways. I think Web PI makes it a little easier to find the download, but not a lot. The Visual Studio Web Installer checks dependencies, so there's no big advantage there. If you do happen to hit any problems installing Visual Studio SP1 via Web PI, I'd recommend running the Visual Studio Web Installer, then running the Web PI VS 2010 SP1 package to get all the other goodies. I talked to one person who hit some random snag, recommended that, and it worked out. Custom Web Platform Installer bundles You can create links that will launch the Web Platform Installer with a custom list of tools. You can see an example of this by clicking through on the install button at http://asp.net/downloads (cancelling the installation dialog). You'll see this in the address bar: http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/install.aspx?appsxml=&appid=MVC3;ASPNET;NETFramework4;SQLExpress;VWD Notice that the appid querystring parameter includes a semicolon delimited list, and you can make your own custom Web PI links with your own desired app list. I can think of a lot of cases where that would be handy: linking to a recommended software configuration from a software project or product, setting up a recommended / documented / supported install list for a software development team or IT shop, etc. For instance, here's a link that installs just VS2010 SP1 Core and the SQL CE tools: http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/install.aspx?appsxml=&appid=VS2010SP1Core;SQLCETools Note: If you've already got all or some of the products installed, the display will reflect that. On my dev box which has the full SP1 package, here's what the above link gives me: Here's another example - on a fresh box I created a link to install MVC 3 and the Web Farm Framework (http://www.microsoft.com/web/gallery/install.aspx?appsxml=&appid=MVC3;WebFarmFramework) and got the following items added to the cart: But where do I get the App ID's? Aha, that's the trick. You can link to a list of cool packages, but you need to know the App ID's to link to them.   • Setting int more than once causes crash

    I'm doing a CABasicAnimation and getting the value from a nested NSMutableArray. Everything is great the first time it runs but crashes when called again either with custom functions or viewDidLoad.   • HTMLUNIT Facebook javascript warning

    Hi I am trying to create simple application that would be able to search people on facebook using given e-mail. I am already able to log into an account using the HTMLunit tool and even create a page, which should throw result of my search. But when I try to print the result as XML the file is missing some blocks of javascript results (I can tell that they are missing by comparing file created by my application and source code, that can be viewed by using IE) Is there any way around this? I just need to get the same result IE's showsource function does. Thanks a lot.   • Open Visual Web Developer Express file in Visual Studio Professional

    I started working on an Asp.net MVC website using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 a while ago. Just recently, I managed to get my hands on a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional (through DreamSpark). I installed the Service Pack, and also the MVC2 files for Visual Studio. However, now I can't open my project anymore. When I try to open the solution in Visual Studio, it tells me that the project type is not supported. Does this mean that I have to resort to using VWD Express again? Note: I installed MVC2 through the Web Platform Installer, and it says that it installed successfully, but yet when I restart the WPI, the box next to MVC2 isn't checked; if I check it and click "Install", it finishes the install process instantly and tells me that it was successful.

  • Visual Artifacts in Visual Studio 2010

    I'm using VS 2010 on Windows Server 2003, running on a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. VS 2010 runs fine, except for persistent and random screen re-drawing issues. Samples of these are here. These artifacts occur as the mouse moves over items that highlight on a mouse-over event, while scrolling, and when switching tabs. VS 2008 has non of these issues, so I assume that it is related to VS 2010's use of WPF. Could it be that my video card or driver is not up to the task of rendering WPF? Some other WPF applications (not Silverlight) also have some of these screen repainting problems. I have tried a variety of settings in System Properties--Advanced--Performance Options--Visual Effects, and in the related "Advanced" tab, Processor Scheduling is adjusted for best performance of programs. In fact, it’s been 18 years since the first Visual Studio product was launched. In that time, there have been some major changes but perhaps the most important (or at least influential) changes for the course of the product have been in the last few years. While we can argue over what was and wasn’t an important change or what has and hasn’t changed, I want to talk about what I think is the single most important change Microsoft has made to Visual Studio. Specifically, I’m referring to the Visual Studio Gallery (first introduced in Visual Studio 2010) and the ability for third-parties to easily write extensions which can add new functionality to Visual Studio or even change existing functionality. I know Visual Studio had this ability before the Gallery existed, but it was expensive (both from a financial and development resource) perspective for a company or individual to write such an extension. The Visual Studio Gallery changed all of that. As of today, there are over 4000 items in the Gallery. Microsoft itself has over 100 items in the Gallery and more are added all of the time. Why is this such an important feature? Simply put, it allows third-parties (companies such as JetBrains, Telerik, Red Gate, Devart, and DevExpress, just to name a few) to provide enhanced developer productivity experiences directly within the product by providing new functionality or changing existing functionality. However, there is an even more important function that it serves. It also allows Microsoft to do the same. By providing extensions which add new functionality or change existing functionality, Microsoft is not only able to rapidly innovate on new features and changes but to also get those changes into the hands of developers world-wide for feedback. The end result is that these extensions become very robust and often end up becoming part of a later product release. An excellent example of this is the new CodeLens feature of Visual Studio 2013. This is, perhaps, the single most important developer productivity enhancement released in the last decade and already has huge potential. As you can see, out of the box CodeLens supports showing you information about references, unit tests and TFS history.   Fortunately, CodeLens is also accessible to Visual Studio extensions, and Microsoft DevLabs has already written such an extension to show code “health.” This extension shows different code metrics to help make sure your code is maintainable. At this point, you may have already asked yourself, “With over 4000 extensions, how do I find ones that are good?” That’s a really good question. Fortunately, the Visual Studio Gallery has a ratings system in place, which definitely helps but that’s still a lot of extensions to look through. To that end, here is my personal list of favorite extensions. This is something I started back when Visual Studio 2010 was first released, but so much has changed since then that I thought it would be good to provide an updated list for Visual Studio 2013. These are extensions that I have installed and use on a regular basis as a developer that I find indispensible. This list is in no particular order.     My company has two development teams using TFS 2008. My team would like to migrate our .Net 3.5 app to the .Net 4.0 framework, but the company is not ready to upgrade TFS to TFS 2010. Can we still use TFS 2008's team build system but with a Visual Studio 2010 solution/project structure that targets the .Net 4.0 framework? I am thinking we would need to add a new build agent to TFS 2008 that would have VS 2010 installed. But I am not finding any information on how to do this. Is this possible? Are there any articles explaining how to do this?

    Hi, I am using Visual Studio 2010 Express on Windows 7. I recently installed GitExtension and it seems to work fine (cloning and branching and what not). I expected it to show up on Visual Studio Express when I opened VS, but it does not. I have searched online and found a few references to the same problem recommending to use VS Extension manager to download the Git plugin for 2010. However, when I tried to use Extension manager on VS to access and install GitExtension plugin nothing related to Git showed up. Any suggestions to make the GitExtension show up on VS 2010 Express on Windows 7? Really appreciate any help.

  • Decrease the height of title bar in Visual Studio 2012 on secondary screen

    I have two screens on my VS2012. No problems with title bar on the main screen, on the secondary however, the title bar takes up lots of space - see screenshot attached. In VS2010, for example, the title bar on secondary screen is a lot thinier. I guess this change was made to address touch interfaces (??) but it is highly inconvenient to waste some much space just because of that. Anybody knows how the change just the height of the title bar on the secondary screen?

  • Flexible cloud file storage for a web.py app?

    I'm creating a web app using web.py (although I may later rewrite it for Tornado) which involves a lot of file manipulation. One example, the app will have a git-style 'commit' operation, in which some files are sent to the server and placed in a new folder along with the unchanged files from the last version. This will involve copying the old folder to the new folder, replacing/adding/deleting the files in the commit to the new folder, then deleting all unchanged files in the old folder (as they are now in the new folder). I've decided on Heroku for the app hosting environment, and I am currently looking at cloud storage options that are built with these kinds of operations in mind. I was thinking of Amazon S3, however I'm not sure if that lets you carry out these kinds of file operations in-place. I was thinking I may have to load these files into the server's RAM and then re-insert them into the bucket, costing me a fortune. I was also thinking of Progstr Filer (http://filer.progstr.com/index.html) but that seems to only integrate with Rails apps. Can anyone help with this? Basically I want file operations to be as cheap as possible.

  • MSDeploy doesn't deploy to remote server using MSBuild and Visual Studio 2010

    I'm currently running Visual Studio Team System 2010 RC and I'm trying to get the Build Service setup to build my solution and deploy 3 web applications in it. I've created a custom build configuration called Integration and I've setup the "IIS Web site/application name to use on the destination server" on the Package/Publish tab of the Properties for each of the web applications. In my Build Definition I've set the following arguments: /p:DeployOnBuild=True /p:DeployTarget=MSDeployPublish /p:MSDeployPublishMethod=InProc /p:MsDeployServiceUrl=http://my-server-name:8172/msdeploy.axd /p:EnablePackageProcessLoggingAndAssert=True However, when I run the build I get the following error, for all three web applications: Updating setAcl (RightContent). C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\Web\Microsoft.Web.Publishing.targets(3481,5): error : Web deployment task failed. (Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.) I don't think this is my actual problem though. This error is occuring after the following entry in the log: Updating setAcl This is what's causing the error message, but it appears that MSDeploy is trying to deploy to the local IIS on the Build server, not the server I specified with the MsDeployServiceUrl parameter. After looking at the targets file at C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\Web\Microsoft.Web.Publishing.targets, I added the EnablePackageProcessLoggingAndAssert, which adds extra logging. The log shows an emptry string for the value of MsDeployServiceUrl. I also noticed in the target that MsDeployServiceUrl has a lowercase s, which is somewhat confusing because the task name MSDeployPublish has an uppercase S. I tried using it using uppercase, then again using lowercase, but neither worked. A couple other things to note: My build service is running as NETWORK SERVICE. The server I'm trying to deploy to is on another domain. I also tried adding /p:username=mydomain\myusername /p:password=mypassword to the MSBuild paramter list, but that didn't help. Does anyone know if I'm supplying the correct parameters? Or provide me with the correct ones? Thanks

  • TFS Build 2010: BuildNumber and DropLocation

    Automatic Builds for Application Release is a current practice in every major development factory nowadays. Using Team Foundation Server Build 2010 to accomplish this offers many opportunities to improve quality of your releases. The following approach allow us to generate build drop folders including the BuildNumber and the Changeset or Label provided. Using this procedure we can quickly identify the generated binaries in the Drop Server with the corresponding Version. Branch the DefaultTemplate.xaml and renamed it with CustomDefaultTemplate.xaml Open it for edit (check out) Go to the Set Drop Location Activity and edit the DropLocation property. Write the following expression: BuildDetail.DropLocationRoot + "\" + BuildDetail.BuildDefinition.Name + "\" + If(String.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(GetVersion), BuildDetail.SourceGetVersion, GetVersion) + "_" + BuildDetail.BuildNumber Check in the branched template. Now create a build definition named TestBuildForDev using the new template. The previous expression sets the DropLocation with the following format: (ChangesetNumber|LabelName)_BuildName_BuildNumber The first part of the folder name will be the changeset number or the label name (if triggered using labels). Folder names will be generated as following: C1850_TestBuildForDev_20111117.1 (changesets start with letter C) LLabelname_TestBuildForDev_20111117.1 (labels start with letter L) Try launching a build from a Changeset and from a Label. You can specify a Label in the GetVersion parameter in the Queue new Build Wizard, going to the Parameters tab (for labels add the “L” prefix):

  • Visual Studio 2010 on Macbook Air

    Does anyone here run Visual Studio 2010 (or VS12 RC) on a Macbook Air? I have the current model with 4GB ram, 13" screen, and 256GB SSD drive. Before I go through the effort of configuring this, I'd like to know if anyone from the community has done this and: Was the performance acceptable? If it is, I plan to get a larger cinema display monitor as a second display and do all my coding on this machine ditching my desktop. Did you use Boot camp, Parallels, or VMWare? I feel to maximize performance that boot camp would be necessary to make the most utilization of the memory, but am not sure if this completely necessary. I'd prefer to use a VM, but wasn't sure if this was practical and would value your input before buying a license. Did you also run anything else on the Windows installation, such as SQL Server express, IISExpress, etc? Did performance lag after a certain point? Note: I would have asked this in superuser.com, but felt this applied more directly to the programming community.
