• System.XML or Regex.Replace?

  I'm generating a large amount of XML documents from a set of values in an Excel file. The only thing that changes for each XML document is the values. I figured the best way to generate these documents was to make a "XML skeleton" (since the XML format never changes) and then plug in symbols like "&%blahNameblahTest", so then I could just preform a Regex.Replace on each value. I will be handing over this project to another developer and I'm wondering if I should convert the project to generate the XML file manually everytime through the System.XML namespace. The only advantages I see to this is ensuring that the XML document is valid. The current method would be more readable than that method, and way faster since I'm generating around 1500 documents.

• jsonp cross domain only working in IE

  EDIT: At first I thought it wasn't working cross domain at all, now I realize it only works in IE I'm using jQuery to call a web service (ASP.NET .axmx), and trying to us jsonp so that I can call it across different sites. Right now it is working ONLY in IE, but not in Firefox, Chrome, Safari. Also, in IE, a dialog pops up warning "This page is accessing information that is not under its control..." Any ideas? • How to add external library properly in Eclipse?

  So today I downloaded Apache Commons Lang library (binary, zip format). I extracted it to C:\eclipse\commons-lang-2.5 folder. There are a commons-lang-2.5.jar, a commons-lang-2.5-javadoc.jar, and a commons-lang-2.5-sources.jar inside, and a folder for HTML Javadoc. I started Eclipse, added commons-lang-2.5.jar, and set its source and Javadoc respectively as the screenshot below. My question is, is there a convenient or standard way to add external libraries? Or am I actually doing the right thing?

• Can I programatically determine if a PNG is animated?

  I have PNG (as well as JPEG) images uploaded to my site. They should be static (i.e. one frame). There is such thing as APNG. (it will be animated in Firefox). According to the Wikipedia article... APNG hides the subsequent frames in PNG ancillary chunks in such a way that APNG-unaware applications would ignore them, but there are otherwise no changes to the format to allow software to distinguish between animated and non-animated images. Does this mean it is impossible to determine if a PNG is animated with code? If it is possible, can you please point me in the right direction PHP wise (GD, ImageMagick)?

  The excel spreadsheet is connecting to SQL server 2005 using the connection string below: Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=True;Initial Catalog=XXXXXX;Data Source=XXXXXX;Extended Properties="HDR=No";Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=XXXXXX;Use Encryption for Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False It then pulls data from a view into Excel. The business user wants this information without a header row. This will allow her to review then save as a "headless" csv in SAGE file format. I attempted to alter the connection string by adding HDR=No but that hasn't worked. Additionally, I can't delete the header row. Deleting the content replaces the column names with "Column 1" etc. Any ideas appreciated!

My export creates a file successfully as a .xls file. However, my contents for the file are being written as standard html table as seen below rather than the file content that normal excel files are saved in. The issue I have now is this. I need to take this file along with whatever changes or additions that were made by an end user and upload it back to a table in SQL Server.   Ive built a webpage with 'tabs' using rails. When a user clicks a tab, a new page loads. I want to format it so the tabs are always in the same place on the page as a user clicks them. This happens as long as the user has not scrolled down on the page. If a user has scrolled down, clicking on the tab will refresh the page and it is no longer scrolled down - which make clicking the tabs look bad. Is there a way to keep the spot on the page where the user has scrolled down, without using Javascript? If it must be done with Javascript, any suggestions? T

  So from the code below, I have managed to get the string *tempstring into an array chunk. Now chunk[0] contains 'a' while chunk[1] contains 'aa'. I am trying to format chunk[0] to '0a' which I can using the replaceObjectAtIndex method. Here's my question: How do I detect that chunk[0] is formatted as 'a' and not '0a'. I want to check all the indexes and make sure they have double digits and if not use a 0 to prefix it.   I am trying to figure out how to grab a value from Expression.Blend.SampleData. If my id is equal to a drop down for example, I can grab it by doing this: ((Expression.Blend.SampleData.MyDatabase.something)(MyDropDown.SelectedItem)).description; I need some way to place my own value where (MyDropDown.SelectedItem) is. Visual studio wants me to convert it a "Expression.Blend.SampleData.MyDatabase.something" format. I have tried a few ways to do this but I have been unsuccessful. Any Ideas? EDIT I am starting to think there is no way in Silverlight to do this

It appears that the getJson() method is working fine as far as parsing the json goes.   I'm using flow player 3.1.1 for streaming videos to my browser.The videos are uploaded by the users and they may upload different formats. What will be solution to stream the videos as mp4 , what ever be the format they upload. I'm currently using ffmpeg commands. ffmpeg -i "InputFile.mp4" -sameq -vcodec libx264 -r 35 -acodec libfaac -y "OutputFile.mp4" But video files of more size(say 100mb) are taking a minute more for laoding in to the flowplayer and buffering.   This sample app ("thoughtsite") for App Engine contains a pom.xml in its trunk: http://code.google.com/p/thoughtsite/source/browse/#svn/trunk But I don't know what command to run in Maven to set up the project locally. (The README doesn't mention anything about Maven.) I tried to just import the project code directly into Eclipse but it doesn't look like it's in an appropriate format for a direct import. So I assume I need to do something with Maven to get it set up correctly. I haven't really used Maven before so I'm not sure what command I would need to run to set everything up. The pom.xml seems like it downloads a bunch of dependencies for the project like the Spring jar files which I don't see anywhere else in the svn repository.

  We currently have an old product written in classic asp and are about to re-write parts in ASP.NET. One big problem is that much of the cutomer-specifics within the system are hard coded. We want to split this out for specific customers by storing data in the database. Is there a quick an easy open source framework which allows me to set up some quick tables and simple UIs to allow me to change configuration items? We have 6-7 modules, and it would be nice to have the ability to have system admins gain access to a configuration area where they can set-up settings in a tabbed UI format, settings could also be set-up to allow dropdown, fields, numbers etc. The items could then be accessed via classes in C#/vb for use within the operational parts of the system. If not, I'm suprised and it might even be a good basis for a new open source project.

  This is driving me crazy. I have the following string in a ASP.NET 2.0 WebForm Page string s = "0.009"; Simple enough. Now, if my culture is Spanish - which is "es-ES" - and I try to convert the string to Double, I do the following: double d = Double.Parse(s, new CultureInfo("es-ES")); what I'd expect is 0,009. Instead, I get 9. I understand that .NET thinks it is a thousand separator, which in en-US is a comma, but shouldn't it take the culture info I'm passing to the parse method and apply the correct format to the conversion? If I do double d = 0.009D; string formatted = d.ToString(new CultureInfo("es-ES")); formatted is now 0,009. Anybody?

  What I am trying to do is open up a JFilechooser that filters jpeg,gif and png images, then gets the user's selection and inserts it into the JEditorPane. Can this be done? or am i attempting something impossible?   I'm looking for some sample database data that I can use for testing and demonstrating a DB tool I am working on. I need a DB that has (preferably) many tables, and many foreign key relationships between the tables. Ideally the data would be in SQL dump format, or at least in something that maintains the foreign key references, and could be easily import into an RDBMS (MySQL or H2). The dataset itself doesn't have to be huge (in fact, best if it's not). I thought about using the Stackoverflow Data Dump, but it's only about 5 tables.

  Here's what I'm thinking (excuse the Django format): class VehicleMake(Model): name = CharField(max_length=50) class VehicleModel(Model): make = ForeignKey(VehicleMake) name = CharField(max_length=50) class VehicleYear(Model): model = ForeignKey(VehicleModel) year = PositiveIntegerField() This is going to be used in those contingent drop-down select boxes, which would visually be laid out like [- Year -][- Make -][- Model -]. So, to query the data I need I would first have to select all distinct years from the years table, sorted descending. Then I'd find all the vehicle makes that have produced a model in that year. And then all the models by that make in that year. Is this a good way to do it, or should I re-arrange the foreign keys somehow? Or use a many-to-many table for the years/models so that no year is repeated?

  Hi all, Mac OS 10.6, Cocoa project, 10.4 compatibility required. (Please note: my knowledge of regex is quite slight) I need to parse NSStrings, for matching cases where the string contains an embedded tag, where the tag format is: [xxxx] Where xxxx are random characters. e.g. "The quick brown [foxy] fox likes sox". In the above case, I need to grab the string "foxy". (Or nil if no tag is found.) Each string will only have one tag, and the tag can appear anywhere within the string, or may not appear at all. Could someone please help with a way to do that, preferably without having to include another library such as RegexKit. Thank you for any help.

  Hi, Hope someone may be able to help. What i am looking to do is create a small winform app in c# to read the content of a email from a pop account, and upload key values to a sql automatically. The email format is always the same for each email, eg, First name : Last name : Phone number : etc... Currently the emails are being stored in a pop 3 account however i want a way to reduce having to key the information into the sql by hand. Can anyone advise how i would go about doing this or could recommend some guides? Thanks. Steve

  I had code that parses date as follows: String ALT_DATE_TIME_FORMAT = "yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSSZ"; SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat( ALT_DATE_TIME_FORMAT); Date date = sdf.parse(requiredTimeStamp); And it was working fine, suddenly, this stopped working. It turns out an admin made some config changes on the server and the date is currently being returned as "2010-12-27T10:50:44.000-08:00" which is not parse-able by the above pattern. I have two questions: The first would be what pattern would parse the date being returned by the JVM in the format above (specifically, just '-08:00' as the time zone)? And second, where exactly would one change such settings on a linux RHEL 5 server so that we are aware of such changes in the future?
