    I would like to get started with PHP, and 5.3 release seems to bring many nice features (namespaces, lambda functions, and many others). I have found some MVC frameworks, and some of them support only PHP 5: PHP Frameworks PHP MVC Frameworks Model–view–controller on Wikipedia but can anyone recommend one of those MVC frameworks that plans to actively use PHP 5.3 features, not just being compatible with PHP 5.3?     Hi, I recently contacted a web host regarding support for external database access to a Microsoft SQL Database included in a package they offer. They replied saying that it is only possible with an SSH-tunnel. Is it possible to connect to a MS SQL database in Visual Studio using an SSH-tunnel? It is important for me to be able to access the database from my local machine (for debugging, generating LINQ classes, editing tables, etc). Or, how should I go about working with their database?

  • Which TextEditor is easiest to customize for a new scripting language?

    It's been more than an year that i'm developing a new scripting language with its own grammar rules and constructs. I'd like to give the users of this language some minimalistic ide to work with, but i don't want/have time to make one from scratch so i'd like to take one already existing (it has to run on Linux platforms natively, so no windows-only editors plz) and customize it. Well, which one is the easiest to customize without changing the source code and recompiling it, maybe even with plugin support? Thank you.

  • How to get all <img> tags inside a text selection?

    I've looked around for a while, but there doesn't seem to be a simple way to do this. jQuery doesn't help the in least, it seems to entirely lack any support for selection or DOM ranges. Something which I hoped would be as simple as $.selection.filter('img') seems to only be doable with dozens of lines of code dealing with manually enumerating elements in ranges and browser implementation inconsistencies (though ierange helps here). Any other shortcuts?

  • Best Practices for Working with Multiple Monitors in Visual Studio 2010

    Now that Visual Studio 2010 has support for multiple monitors, I am curious how other people have their environments arranged. I have yet to come up with an arrangement that I am really satisfied with. The current best I have come up with for my 2 monitor system is to have all code windows detached. Then, on my primary monitor, I am able to have two code windows side by side (using the Windows 7 keyboard shortcuts WinKey+LeftArrow and WinKey+RightArrow.) On my secondary monitor I put the rest of the IDE with all of the tool windows that are normally on the bottom (errors list, find window, call stack, etc...) docked where the code windows normally go. I've also tried having all those things detached and having almost nothing in the IDE proper. The problems with this layout are: Newly opened code windows always open in the IDE, not on top of one of the detached windows. Detached code windows do not remember their exact placement from session to session (they are slightly off, having me to use the winkey + arrow key shortcut again and again for each window. There seems to be no way to have the code panes aware that they are on top of one another (IE -- multiple tabs.) The CTRL+TAB shortcut always displays on top of the IDE proper. The Code Panes are always "on top" of (children of) the IDE. So clicking on any code pane brings the IDE to the foreground, even when I care only about that code pane, and not the IDE. Other more minor issues... What would go a long way to making this better is having the code panes detach such that they are tab strips that can have other code panes docked within them. The new multi-monitor support in VS2010 is good, but it still seems really lacking. Can these issues be solved with an add-in? If so, is anyone aware of one? Is there a better way to work with the IDE on multiple monitors than what I am doing? NOTE: While this question is subjective (there is certainly no "this is the best way and that's final" answer) I'd really like to know possibly better methods of working with the IDE than what I have come up with. The intent is not to start a "mine's best" flame war.

Since it's in flash, we do not worry about Javascript, we do not support non-javascript users.   • Are there any programmable barcode scanners that can call a webservice?

    I am looking at integrating a C# application with a barcode scanner. The last time I did this was with Delphi 1 (win 3.11) using a scanner that plugged in-line into the keyboard cable. Looking around it appears most scanners are USB based these days and assume they emulate keyboard entry. Anybody know of more sophisticated/programmable scanner that can call a webservice or even just do a basic POST/GET this would eliminate the C# application and the computer to support it?

  • Is there a good in-browser code editor?

    We've all seen in-browser rich text editors, which allow you to edit colored/styled text in a WYSIWYG manner. But what about code editors, which automatically highlight code based on language rules as you type? Think Eclipse in a textarea (but without the refactoring support). Do such things exist? I imagine scaling would be a problem - larger files would be difficult to edit efficiently.
