Hello,
I normally hang out over on SO but wanted to ask this question in a more appropriate forum. I have, for the sheer fun of learning how to do (as I'm sick of GHOST and dd images) set up WDS and captured a reference WIM file.
One of the things that I remember being promised was the ability to do offline servicing of WIM files. I'm just wondering what the actual procedure is for this?
I have the full SP1 ISO down (covers 7 and 2008R2) and was wondering about next steps. If someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it greatly.
Thanks
- Derek
Hey guys,
Wondering if anyone has any ideas on what's causing my pc to lockup at the splash screen on bootup for 1-3minutes. This ONLY happens on the first power up, subsequent reboots run fine.
Running on a Falcon II SSD
I did the customary move of files to another drive when i first formatted the ssd. The slow first boot only started happening recently.
Thanks in advance!
I have Bluetooth installed in my laptop. The Bluetooth is enabled according to the status light. However, I do not see Bluetooth listed in device manager or have a control panel option for it. A scan for new hardware doesn't turn up Bluetooth. Nor are any devices listed with a Yellow Exclamation Point. I do have three USB Hubs Listed as "Generic USB Hub."
There is no Bluetooth icon in the notification area and Bluetooth is not listed under Devices and Printers.
What am I missing?
So I ran spyware doctor and it had a bunch of malware stuff. I clicked "Remove" but failed to create a restore point first. Now my websites running on .net 2.0 as well as visual studio 2008 are not working. My websites running .net 4 and visual studio 2010 are working just fine. I'm assuming I need to restore either .net 2.0/3.5 or something. Any idea on how to do this?
Thanks!
I have just added a MBP to my home network and while I can connect to the internet etc, i cannot browse my home networked computers. I have already added a new location in my Network preferences yet when I goto the WINS tab, there is no dropdown to select my workgroup so i manually enter it.
From what I have read, once I go to the finder and open the network, i should see the workgroup and systems...yet i do not. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
I have a program that by default only runs on one CPU. I have tried using the start /affinity x notepad.exe batch command but i can't get it to run my program. it changes the title of the command line window but doesn't execute the program. this start command does work for notepad so it might just be a problem with the software. I have set the affinity manually via task manager so i know it works.
I am not the programmer of this software so changing that is not an option.
I requested a new ssl cert from godaddy which has been issued.
When try to install it in iis through the website directory security tab i get a "the pending certificate request for this response file was not found. this request may be cancelled. you cannot install selected response certificate using this wizard" error.
I may have run the wizard and deleted the pending request.
Is there any way i can install the certificate without getting a new one? (i hope so)
I have the original certrequest.txt file
I've run into some errors writing CDs and DVDs recently:
Trying to burn a dual layer disc using ImgBurn I come across this error when trying to finalize the disc.
Potential 'WaitImmediateIO' Deferred Error - (0%, 0/3) - Session Fixation Error Writing Lead In
Finalise Disc Failed! - Reason: Session Fixation Error Writing Lead In
Anyone have an idea what could be the problem? There is no problem until it comes time to finalize the disc
In Windows 8, when I go into Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization\Window Color and Appearance the amount of control over window colors is greatly reduced as compared to Windows 7. The color controls do not allow you to make Window borders display in black.
Is there some other way to set the window border color in Windows 8?
Edit 1: Clearly the standard way does not work in Windows 8. The question is, is there another way? Perhaps through the registry for example?
Edit 2: I tried copying the values in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM from my Win7 system to the Win8 system without success (killing the 2 DWM processes after each change - they are automatically restarted and do use the new values).
When I get new mail and go to the "unread email" quick view I always see two version of the email, even though I definitely have only one such version in the inbox itself. Further, viewing the message via inbox usually marks only one of these copies as read, or sometimes none at all.
I have no custom filters defined that could cause duplication.
Any idea what's going on?
PS This is the new version (2011).
I am trying to create client certifications against a microsoft CA using the built in website. (Microsoft Active directory Certificate Services) From what I can tell you have to login as the user to create the corresponding certificate.
Is there anyway to get around that? I tried to create my own template duplicating the user tempalte but it doesn't match and gets rejected when trying to authenticate. Is this something I'd have to look at building?
Any help is appreciative, thank you for your time.
upgraded my HP pavilion notebook from Vista to 7, no access to internet, HP tech support worked on it for an hour, then referred me to my ISP, who worked for 90 min and referred me to microsoft, my desktop is still running XP and connects fine. help please?
I have a user I am supporting who has the strangest issue. There are 2 problem applications, Word 2010 and a scanning program called ScandallPro. Intermittently (and at least once a day), she will close an app and the underlying process will not close. Both Word 2010 and this scanning software have all the latest updates.
There is another user who has the same software that does not have this problem, and has identical hardware. I have formatted and rebuilt the computer for the user who is having the problems. After the rebuild, the machine was fine for a day but the scanning software continues to intermittently keep the process running even after it is closed. This is a problem because she cannot open a new instance of it while the process is still running.
There is a boatload of line of business software on this machine, all of which she needs. I believe the Word 2010 issue is due to a misbehaving add-in (there are 2 add-ins, neither of which seem stable), and I think my best bet is to work with the add-in vendor on it. The scanning program staying open is isolated to this 1 user. The only difference between her machine and the other user is that she has Quickbooks, RoboForm, and Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
Any ideas of what can be causing this, or other diagnostic steps to try?
Basically I love quick launch and pinning is not for me, I can't just pin 50 apps, nor pin them to start menu / use the win + type method.
Anyway, Quick Launch works perfectly under Win7 IF you don't use the language bar. If you use it, sometimes (or always) it may fail to start/appear, you have to readd it.
So my question is: Is there a tray app, a RainMeter way to show this? (First would be better).
Thanks. (Best would be if I could switch layout globally but that train is gone. (Look at the changing global layout. Thank you Microsoft. (Irony included)).
Is it possible to dual boot between Ubuntu and W7.vhd? If anyone knows please tell me how.
if you can answer to [email protected] would be perfect. Thanks
Just did a clean install of Win7 x64. I have a Microsoft Ergo Keyboard 4000 and use the calculator key a lot. Previously I could hit it and get multiple copies of calculator to popup. Now it will only show one copy of calculator. I tried adding a shortcut to the calculator app but it has the same limitation. However if I click the calculator icon it will open a new one each time.
How can I fix this so each time I press the calculator key it will open a new copy?
Do I really need to split the single file into multiple files first? Shouldn't there be a one-step utility that lets you burn a CD and define track points at the same time?
Does anyone know an easy way to write files to a DVD from the command line. I've found a program that does it for CDs, and another that writes .ISO images to DVD.
I want to use it to write files to a backup DVD overnight.
I'm using r.js as a build tool but as of today that tools doesn't give me the ability to delete empty folders in the build dir. I've found these two scripts
for /f "usebackq" %%d in ("dir /ad/b/s | sort /R") do rd "%%d"
for /f "delims=" %%i in ('dir /s /b /ad ^| sort /r') do rd "%%i">NUL
looking around the net but i always get
%%i was unexpected at this time.
or
%%d was unexpected at this time.
And i wouldn't know how to tell the script where my directory is.
My build script is
@echo off
where /q r.js || (
echo requirejs node package is not installed. You must install node, npm and then run npm install -g requirejs
goto :eof
)
node r.js -o app.build.js
:end
I need to tell the script to remove all empty directories which are located inside ../../js
