  We have a legacy web application (not Spring based) and are looking for best practices to autowire some newer Spring configured (thread safe) service beans into instance variables in several of the legacy servlets. Rewriting every servlet to Spring MVC is out of scope. For testability, we do not want any Spring specific bean lookup code in the Servlets to look up beans by name or similar. Note that we are not concerned about web specific bean scopes such as session or request; all services are singleton scope. • Login time out when calling opening a new window from modal popup (ASP.NET)

  I have a weird problem. I have a window, on a button click I open a modal popup (using ModelPopupExtender), that let's you select a few criteria and then click a submit button. On click of submit button, I open a new window (using window.open()) that shows the status of what happened to your submitted request. However, every time this status window is opened, it goes to the login page. I am thinking the modal popup can't pass the authentication cookie to the newly opened window, but I'm not sure. Here is what I want to do: I have a class DataRetriever The class has a method GetData GetData makes a jsonp request with the following code: var new_tag = document.createElement('script'); new_tag.type = 'text/javascript'; new_tag.src = 'http://somesite.com/somemethod?somedata'; // Add the element var bodyRef = document.getElementsByTagName("body").item(0); bodyRef.appendChild(new_tag); Now, the jsonp data from the server somesite.com can call a function in my code with the data. The problem is, how does the data get delivered to the instance of DataRetriever that requested it? I'm really stuck here.

  I'm trying to get cross-domain Ajax to work. I downloaded a PHP proxy script from the Yahoo Developer site, ran it from command line and verified that it receives the XML from the server with a GET request. Now, I'm trying to connect to the PHP script within JS with no results. I have the following: <script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.4.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $.ajax({ type:"GET", url:"proxy.php", dataType:"html", success:function(msg){ alert(msg); } }); </script> What this does, though, is to output the source of the PHP script in the alert box, not the XML!   Operating systems read from disk more than what a program actually requests, because a program is likely to need nearby information in the future. In my application, when I fetch an item from disk, I would like to show an interval of information around the element. There's a trade off between how much information I request and show, and speed. However, since the OS already reads more than what I requested, accessing these bytes already in memory is free. What API can I use to find out what's in the OS caches? Alternatively, I could use memory mapped files. In that case, the problem reduces to finding out whether a page is swapped to disk or not. Can this be done in any common OS?

  As a concluding assignment for the technologies taught in a data management course, we have to write a web application using the technologies taught throughout the course, this mostly includes xhtml, css, JSP, servelets, JDBC, AJAX, webservices. the project will eventually be deployed using tomcat. we are given the option of choosing the technologies that we see fit. since this is my first time developing a web application I am having some uncertainties about where to start, so for example now I am writing the object classes that will be used in the database and implementing the operations that will be performed on the database, but I am not sure about how to make these operations available to a client through the website, I mean I think I have to write a servlet through which I can extract the request parameters and set the response accordingly, but I would still like a more specific overview of what I am going to do, so if someone can link me to a tutorial with an example that makes use of these technologies while illustrating the stages of the design so that I can see how all these things are linked together in a web project. thanks

  I have a website which useses a mysql database for its whole operation . But for a new requirement i need to query a external oracle database( used by other component) and compile a list of items and display in a page in the website. How is it possible to connect to a external database just for rendering a single page. And is it possible to cache the queried result for say 1 month before invalidating the cache and get the updated list of items. i dont want query the external oracle db for each request.

AuthName "Myfolder" AuthType Basic AuthUserFile url/protect/.htpasswd Require valid-user Also created a .htpassword file which contain username:password When I run my URL http://localhost/url/protect, I got a pop up asking username and password, I entered username as username and password as password. After that I got an error page "server error 500" "The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster." Why this happened?. Any thing wrong here? Anything needs to see my pages under the folder. Please give me the answer.

• FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage reload page

  Hi, I am using the .Net memebership system, and uptil now I haven't had any real troubles with it. I now have a overlay where a user can create a profile. When the profile is created I just want to redirect to the same page, and not to the default page or the return url - which doesn't exists. I have tried to stop the FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage response, but with no effect: FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(username, false); // End the redirect so it doesnt redirect to default url (front-page) Response.End(); Response.Redirect(Request.RawUrl); Does anyone have an idea to how this can be solved?

• CakePHP - Just Layout?

  I want to set $this->layout to json in the controller action. In the json layout, there will be a line saying $this->Javascript>object(); which will parse through the data given to it by the controller, and output the jSON. However, creating a new view file for each jSON request, eg. recipe_view, ingredient_view isn't necessary, I just need a layout. Is there a way to bypass the view file altogether and have just the layout, without the notorious Missing View! error? Many Thanks Kieran

  I'm developing an iOS app with Twitter features. To do that I'm using SA_OAuthTwitterEngine and MGTwitterEngine wrappers. I've followed this post. I'm trying to retweet a tweet from the followed user timeline. This is what I send/receive: 2012-04-12 18:34:00.291 Project[13605:207] INFO -> Twitter URL: https://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/retweet/190459190869753856.xml 2012-04-12 18:34:00.292 Project[13605:207] INFO -> retweet response: 0AFF2EF9-6BCC-4B1E-B65A-02BD24A38C18 Here I pass to the API the id field of the selected tweet which I want to retweet. But after execute the method, the retweeted doesn't appears in the user timeline, where I'm getting the user tweets and tweets retweeted by user. What I'm loosing here? According with this the request to the Twitter API is ok. And I've checked the app permissions setted in twitter and have all: read/write and direct messages. Thanks.

My customer request me the multi language but they want the link as: http://site.com/controller_name/lang_code Or http://site.com/controller_name/paramenter1/parameter2/lang_code The language code is always at the last segment. It is stored in the session. The url maybe also http://site.com/controller_name/ Or http://site.com/controller_name/paramenter1/parameter2/ In this case. The language stored in session will be loaded, but the url don't need to display it. I try i18n library, but it cannnot solve my problem. Can anyone help me

• How to rewrite to a virtual directory with a different application

  Hi, I have a CMS application that manages multiple websites, today whenever i change the codebehind of one of these websites - i have to rebuild the dll for all websites, deploy it - this disconnects all current sessions and is really bad. The iis is configured to listen to all domain requests, if the request is to one of the websites' domain , the application rewrites it, or example, if someone requests for http://www.example.com, and example.com is configured in the application to be website 12, it is rewritten to http://www.example.com/websites/12/default.aspx. This is done for all websites. We want to seperate the dlls of the websites from each other, and from the main CMS, we have a virtual directory to each websites, but when trying to rewrite to it, we discover that IIS support this (we get an "Could not load type '_12._Default'". error). How can we perform this rewrite so it does rewrite to virtual directories, or if anyone has any other solution for the initial dll seperation problem. Thanks in advance

• Solr dataimport skips entities in my data-config.xml

  My data-config.xml defines 3 different entities under the document tag (lets call them foo, bar and baz). When I issue a basic full import localhost:8983/solr/dataimport?command=full-import, only 2 of the 3 entities get indexed (foo and bar are in my index but baz never makes it). However, if I then issue a command to just import baz via localhost:8983/solr/dataimport?command=full-import&entity=baz&clean=false it adds baz documents just fine and the index then has all 3 types. Does anyone have any thoughts on why one entity gets skipped in the general data import but then still works okay if I specifically call it out? Is there an error/warning log I can check? Nothing bad shows up in /solr/logs/ but those just appear to be request logs.

• Problem with anchor tags in Django after using lighttpd + fastcgi

  I just started using lighttpd and fastcgi for my django site, but I've noticed my anchor links are no longer working. I used the anchor links for sorting links on the page, for example I use an anchor to sort links by the number of points (or votes) they have received. For example: the code in the html template: ... {% load sorting_tags %} ... {% ifequal sort_order "points" %} {% trans "total points" %} {% trans "or" %} {% anchor "date" "date posted" %} {% order_by_votes links request.direction %} {% else %} {% anchor "points" "total points" %} {% trans "or" %} {% trans "date posted" %} ... The anchor link on "www.mysite.com/my_app/" for total points will be directed to "my_app/?sort=points" But the correct URL should be "www.mysite.com/my_app/?sort=points" All my other links work, the problem is specific to anchor links. The {% anchor %} tag is taken from django-sorting, the code can be found at http://github.com/directeur/django-sorting Specifically in django-sorting/templatetags/sorting_tags.py Thanks in advance.

• Jetty 6: Unknown Error 99

  The system I'm developing is comprised of a jetty server (v6.1.2rc4) and a php frontend that sends http requests to jetty via curl_exec. The server and the client are on the same machine. The requests I send can be both POSTs and GETs, I get the same error for either which is: Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1: Unknown error 99 This is rather cryptic. It seems that after the first problematic request, some of the following (unrelated) requests also get corrupted. It looks like jetty is simply refusing the connection, but I can't read more than that into the error message. I thought it was a problem with the server's configuration, so I tried changing jetty's maxIdleTimeMs, but without success. Any idea about what to do is welcome thanks, Silvio

• What is viewstate in JSF, and how is it used?

  In JSF, there is a viewstate associated with each page, which is passed back and forth with submits etc. I know that viewstate is calculated using the states of the various controls on the page, and that you can store it either client side or server side. The question is: how is this value used? Is it used to validate the values sent at submit, to ensure that the same request is not sent twice? Also, how is it calculated - I realise that richfaces may be calculated differently from myfaces, but an idea would be nice. Thanks.

  Hi, I'm building a chat system for a company and I'm wondering as to what the best way to build the system would be? The current setup we have is a Nginx HTTP Server with PHP and Memcacheq (as a message queue that appends the chat messages to the user's own queue). We then poll the Nginx server (through a Comet style request) and query the message queue for updates. Is it a good idea to use a message queue such as Memcacheq to handle a chat system that has both user-to-user and site-wide chat or is it best to just stick to MySQL? Thanks!

• Facebook: "URL could not be liked because it has been blocked" error in iOS app

  I'm working on an iOS app that allows the user to like a Facebook page within the app. I've implemented this using FacebookLikeView. During the course of testing this functionality, I've liked and unliked the same page multiple times. Unfortunately, this seems to have triggered Facebook's spam detection. Now, when trying to like a page using the like button displayed by FacebookLikeView, the following error is presented: "URL could not be liked because it has been blocked". Based on reports of the same problem found by searching the web, I've filled out this form to request that Facebook remove the block. However, I've received no response from them. I'm not sure how to proceed. Has anyone else run into this issue and successfully solved it?

• How do I fire an asynchronous call in asp classic and ignore the response?

  Here's the gist: I have a call I want to make in asp, and I do not care about the response. I just want to fire the call and I do not want the page to wait for the response. What I can gather from the internet is that users do something like the following: While xmlhttp.readyState <> 4 xmlhttp.waitForResponse 1000 Wend Am I crazy in that this does not really seem like an asynchrous call anymore though if you are waiting for a response? putting the line xmlhttp.waitForResponse 1 right after the send will cause the request to fire, but again, I don't want to wait a second. Any thoughts?

I can not detect the error exactly. Please help.
