    Hello, I'm reading questions and answers around here for a few days. I have seen the c++ faq lite at Parashift has been mentioned many times. Personally I have always considered it to be a good reference, not my favourite one but certainly useful. Here I have seen somebody advising it, but many others commenting against it instead. Somebody mentioned it's full of mistakes. Could you please point out which are the major errors in there, if any?

    I have a class variable called attributes which lists the instance variables I want to update in a database: attributes = ['id', 'first_name', 'last_name', 'name', 'name_url', 'email', 'password', 'password_salt', 'picture_id'] Each of the class attributes are updated upon instantiation.     Hi, I'd like to know how people decide whether to define a method as static. I'm aware that a method can only be defined as static if it doesn't require access to instance fields. So lets say we have a method that does not access instance fields, do you always define such a method as static, or only if you need to call it statically (without a reference to an instance). Perhaps another way of asking the same question, is whether you use static or non-static as the default? Thanks, Don

  • How would someone implement mathematical formulae in java?

    What I mean is like have to user input a string with multiple variables and get the value of those variable. Like a simple quadratic formula: x^2 + 5x + 10. Or in java: (Math.pow(x,2)) + (x * 5) + 10The user would then enter that and then the program would solve for x. I will be using the BeanShell Interpreter class to interpret the string as an equation. But how would I solve for x?

    I thought about this: Is there a performance difference in these two practices: Store the return value of a function in a temporary variable than give that variable as a parameter to another function. Put the function into the other function. Specification Assuming all classes and functions are written correctly. Case 1. ClassA a = function1(); ClassB b = function2(a); function3(b); Case 2. function3(function2(function1())); I know there aren't a big difference with only one run, but supposed that we could run this a lot of times in a loop, I created some tests.     The TouchUtils class in the android documentation has functions like drag() [http://developer.android.com/intl/de/reference/android/test/TouchUtils.html#drag(android.test.InstrumentationTestCase,%20float,%20float,%20float,%20float,%20int)], but they do not support multi touch gestures, like a two finger swipe. Looking at the MotionEvent.obtain() methods, there does not seem to be any way of invoking a "virtual" multi touch event from a testcase. Anyone has got it working?

    I'm using Computed Columns to provide me with the following information: Hours, Minutes, and Seconds between a Start DateTime and Finish DateTime (Where Minutes and Seconds are between 0 and 59 and Hours can be any value 0 or greater) Computed Column for Seconds: datediff(second,[Start],[Finish]) % 60 Computed Column for Minutes: floor(datediff(second,[Start],[Finish]) / 60.0) % 60 Computed Column for Hours: floor(datediff(second,[Start],[Finish]) / 3600.0) Here's the table for reference Note: I'm also calculating TotalElapsedSeconds, TotalElapsedMinutes, and TotalElapsedHours in other computed columns, but those are easy. I just feel like I might be missing out on a nice built in function in SQL.

    What I'd like to use: 2009 XAML primitives How it would be nice to use them: <sapv:ExpressionTextBox xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" ExpressionType="x:String" /> What actually happens: "Type reference cannot find the public type named String" The examples I see don't have updated namespaces. I tried 2009 and 2010, but to no avail. This is in VS 2010 RTM. What am I doing wrong?
