  • "Hello World" in less than 20 bytes

    - by xelurg
    We have had an interesting competition once, where everyone would write their implementation of hello world program. One requirement was that is should be less than 20 bytes in compiled form. the winner would be the one whose version is the smallest... What would be your solution? :) Platform: 32bit, x86 OS: DOS, Win, GNU/Linux, *BSD Language: Asm, C, or anything else that compiles into binary executable (i.e. no bash scripts and stuff ;)

  • Unable to compile output of lex

    - by dbarker
    When I attempt to compile the output of this trivial lex program: # lex.l integer printf("found keyword INT"); using: $ gcc lex.yy.c I get: Undefined symbols: "_yywrap", referenced from: _yylex in ccMsRtp7.o _input in ccMsRtp7.o "_main", referenced from: start in crt1.10.6.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status lex --version tells me I'm actually using 'flex 2.5.35' although ls -fla `which lex` isn't a symlink. Any ideas why the output won't compile?

How can I use one of those project templates?

  • Streaming output with commons-exec?

    - by Stefan Kendall
    Can anyone give me an example of how to stream the output of an external program executed with DefaultExecutor? I'm not finding any documentation describing how to do this. My external process will run for several hours, so just grabbing all output data isn't feasible; it must be streamed.

  • When is #include <new> library required in C++?

    - by Czarak
    Hi, According to this reference entry for operator new ( http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/std/new/operator%20new/ ) : Global dynamic storage operator functions are special in the standard library: All three versions of operator new are declared in the global namespace, not in the std namespace. The first and second versions are implicitly declared in every translation unit of a C++ program: The header does not need to be included for them to be present. This seems to me to imply that the third version of operator new (placement new) is not implicitly declared in every translation unit of a C++ program and the header <new> does need to be included for it to be present. Is that correct? If so, how is it that using both g++ and MS VC++ Express compilers it seems I can compile code using the third version of new without #include <new> in my source code? Also, the MSDN Standard C++ Library reference entry on operator new gives some example code for the three forms of operator new which contains the #include <new> statement, however the example seems to compile and run just the same for me without this include? // new_op_new.cpp // compile with: /EHsc #include<new> #include<iostream> using namespace std; class MyClass { public: MyClass( ) { cout << "Construction MyClass." << this << endl; }; ~MyClass( ) { imember = 0; cout << "Destructing MyClass." << this << endl; }; int imember; }; int main( ) { // The first form of new delete MyClass* fPtr = new MyClass; delete fPtr; // The second form of new delete char x[sizeof( MyClass )]; MyClass* fPtr2 = new( &x[0] ) MyClass; fPtr2 -> ~MyClass(); cout << "The address of x[0] is : " << ( void* )&x[0] << endl; // The third form of new delete MyClass* fPtr3 = new( nothrow ) MyClass; delete fPtr3; } Could anyone shed some light on this and when and why you might need to #include <new> - maybe some example code that will not compile without #include <new> ? Thanks.

  • bug/error in basis set path algorithm i can't figure out

    - by Roy McAvoy
    The following looks through a 2d array to find basis set paths. It is supposed to print out the individual paths but not repeat any and end when all paths are found. It however doesn't stop at the last path and has a bug in it somewhere in which the following happens: It goes halfway through the path and then goes to zero and ends the path for some reason. For example the table is filled with the following: all 0s, except for [1][2], [1][3], [2][4], [2][5], [3][5], [4][6], [5][6], [6][0] which all have a 1 in them. The desired paths are P1: 1 2 4 6 0 P2: 1 3 5 6 0 P3: 1 2 5 6 0. The output I get when i run the program is 12460 13560 1250 124 Any and all help on this is much appreciated, this is just the function that scans through the array looking for paths, I can add the entire program if that would be helpful. Thanks.. void find_path(int map[][MAX], int x){ int path =0; int m=1; int blah=0; bool path_found = false; do { for(int n=0;n<(x+1);n++){ if(map[m][n]==-1){ blah=(n+1); if(blah<(x+1)){ for(blah;blah<(x+1);blah++){ if(map[m][blah]==1){ map[m][blah]=-1; path=m; path_found = true; cout<<path; m=blah; n=0; } } } else{ path=m; path_found=false; cout<<path; m=n; if(m==0){ path=0; cout<<path<<endl; m=1; path_found=false; } } } else if(map[m][n]==1){ map[m][n]=-1; path=m; path_found = true; cout<<path; m=n; if(m==0){ path=0; cout<<path<<endl; m=1; path_found=false; } } } } while(m<(x+1) && path_found); }

  • Do you ever create fake progress bars?

    - by wrongusername
    Do you (and would you) ever create progress bars that are just there to keep the client happy and moves without reflecting the true progress of the program? I remember reading about this somewhere, and am wondering if there are other developers that do it too...

  • How to compile libsox with MinGW

    - by kaykun
    Hi, I'm trying to use libsox into another program of mine, but I can't seem to compile libsox with MinGW or find any places with working binaries. I downloaded the source from the official site http://sox.sourceforge.net/ but I don't know which files to include in the project to compile it. I can't compile it with all the files included in the 'src' directory and I think I only need to compile the functions listed here: http://sox.sourceforge.net/libsox.html but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone help?
