  • creating new usercntrols at runtime in ASP.NET MVC

    - by Paul Connolly
Hi everyone, My situation is that the user is creating an entity on my site which contains the particlars of the driectors of that company, name address etc.. The Director form is a separate user control with the appropriate textboxes etc. At run time we don't know how many of these directors there will be so I need one to be able to use something like an "ADD DIRECTOR" or "DELETE DIRECTOR" button which will present or delete the another usercontrol to add the additional director. Currently I am trying to make this happen within a pane of the JQuery Accordion control. I have looked many places for how to do this but to no avail. Can anyone tell me where I might find some inforamation about how I can do this? All the best Paul

  • ASP.NET MVC: null reference exception using HtmlHelper.TextBox and custom model binder

    - by mr.nicksta
I have written a class which implements IModelBinder (see below). This class handles a form which has 3 inputs each representing parts of a date value (day, month, year). I have also written a corresponding HtmlHelper extension method to print out three fields on the form. When the day, month, year inputs are given values which can be parsed, but a seperate value fails validation, all is fine - the fields are repopulated and the page served to the user as expected. however when an invalid values are supplied and a DateTime cannot be parsed, i return an arbitrary DateTime so that the fields will be repopulated when returned to the user. I read up on similar problems people have had and they all seemed to be due to lack of calling SetModelValue(). I wasn't doing this, but even after adding the problem has not been resolved. public object BindModel(ControllerContext controllerContext, ModelBindingContext bindingContext) { string modelName = bindingContext.ModelName; string monthKey = modelName + ".Month"; string dayKey = modelName + ".Day"; string yearKey = modelName + ".Year"; //get values submitted on form string year = bindingContext.ValueProvider[yearKey].AttemptedValue; string month = bindingContext.ValueProvider[monthKey].AttemptedValue; string day = bindingContext.ValueProvider[dayKey].AttemptedValue; DateTime parsedDate; if (DateTime.TryParse(string.Format(DateFormat, year, month, day), out parsedDate)) return parsedDate; //could not parse date time report error, return current date bindingContext.ModelState.AddModelError(yearKey, ValidationErrorMessages.DateInvalid); //added this after reading similar problems, does not fix! bindingContext.ModelState.SetModelValue(modelName, bindingContext.ValueProvider[modelName]); return DateTime.Today; } the null reference exception is thrown when i attempt to create a textbox for the Year property of the date, but strangely not for Day or Month! Can anyone offer an explanation as to why this is? Thanks :-)

  • Implementing a pager for asp.net's DataList/Repeater

    - by emre
I have a DataList showing the results, and a Repeater that is supposed to be the pager. I decided to use the page number by redirecting with a QueryString parameter, so it will also be bookmarkable ... My problem is mainly in the UI actually. If I put DIV's with their onclick calling a JS function that does window.location = url + pagenumber , then somehow I have to deal with QueryString operations via JS which is a bit messy. If I use LinkButton objects within the ItemTemplate, then the Redirecting happens only when the linkbutton is clicked while whole div has cursor: pointer , you what I mean. What would be the best approach to this? Thanks in advance. Note: I really want to spend the time and effort implementing my own server-side paging. I think its more fun than reading 3rd party manuals.

  • asp.net mvc json result format

    - by ile
public class JsonCategoriesDisplay { public JsonCategoriesDisplay() { } public int CategoryID { set; get; } public string CategoryTitle { set; get; } } public class ArticleCategoryRepository { private DB db = new DB(); public IQueryable<JsonCategoriesDisplay> JsonFindAllCategories() { var result = from c in db.ArticleCategories select new JsonCategoriesDisplay { CategoryID = c.CategoryID, CategoryTitle = c.Title }; return result; } .... } public class ArticleController : Controller { ArticleRepository articleRepository = new ArticleRepository(); ArticleCategoryRepository articleCategoryRepository = new ArticleCategoryRepository(); public string Categories() { var jsonCats = articleCategoryRepository.JsonFindAllCategories().ToList(); //return Json(jsonCats, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); return new JavaScriptSerializer().Serialize(new { jsonCats}); } } This results with following: {"jsonCats":[{"CategoryID":2,"CategoryTitle":"Politika"},{"CategoryID":3,"CategoryTitle":"Informatika"},{"CategoryID":4,"CategoryTitle":"Nova kategorija"},{"CategoryID":5,"CategoryTitle":"Testna kategorija"}]} If I use line that is commented and place JsonResult instead of returning string, I get following result: [{"CategoryID":2,"CategoryTitle":"Politika"},{"CategoryID":3,"CategoryTitle":"Informatika"},{"CategoryID":4,"CategoryTitle":"Nova kategorija"},{"CategoryID":5,"CategoryTitle":"Testna kategorija"}] But, I need result to be formatted like this: {'2':'Politika','3':'Informatika','4':'Nova kateorija','5':'Testna kategorija'} Is there a simple way to accomplish this or I will need to hardcode result? Thanks in advance!

Does anyone have any guidance when working with ServerXmlHttp? Thanks.

  • How to add favicon.ico in ASP.NET site

    - by Tapas Bose
    The solution structure of my application is: Now I am in Login.aspx and I am willing to add favicon.ico, placed in the root, in that page. What I am doing is: <link id="Link1" runat="server" rel="shortcut icon" href="../favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> <link id="Link2" runat="server" rel="icon" href="../favicon.ico" type="image/ico" /> Also I have tried: <link id="Link1" runat="server" rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> <link id="Link2" runat="server" rel="icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/ico" /> But these aren't working. I have cleared the browser cache but no luck. What will be the path to the favicon.ico from: Login.aspx Site.master Thank you. The login page's URL: http://localhost:2873/Pages/Login.aspx and the favicon.ico's URL: http://localhost:2873/favicon.ico. I am unable to see the favicon.ico after changing my code as: <link id="Link1" rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> <link id="Link2" rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico" type="image/ico" />

  • Accounting Style string format in ASP .NET

    - by Russ Bradberry
I would like to know the easiest way to format a string as accounting style. I know how to format as currency using {0:c} but there are some differences in accounting style, for example, all the dollar signs will line up as well as all the decimal points, and negatives are expressed in parenthesis rather than with a "-" minus sign. You can find a good example of the way i would like it in excel if you format the cells as "accounting" with 2 decimal places. thanks in advance, russ

  • Add ASP.NET web service while impersonating credentials.

    - by George
I have a web reference that I do not have access to through my windows credentials, but do through impersonation. Unfortunately, I cannot update or add the reference because of my lack of credentials. When the service is added, it works fine when I set impersonation to true and add credentials. Is there a way to impersonate a credentials when adding/updating a web service reference through the GUI?

  • ASP.NET MVC unit test controller with HttpContext

    - by user299592
I am trying to write a unit test for my one controller to verify if a view was returned properly, but this controller has a basecontroller that accesses the HttpContext.Current.Session. Everytime I create a new instance of my controller is calls the basecontroller constructor and the test fails with a null pointer exception on the HttpContext.Current.Session. Here is the code: public class BaseController : Controller { protected BaseController() { ViewData["UserID"] = HttpContext.Current.Session["UserID"]; } } public class IndexController : BaseController { public ActionResult Index() { return View("Index.aspx"); } } [TestMethod] public void Retrieve_IndexTest() { // Arrange const string expectedViewName = "Index"; IndexController controller = new IndexController(); // Act var result = controller.Index() as ViewResult; // Assert Assert.IsNotNull(result, "Should have returned a ViewResult"); Assert.AreEqual(expectedViewName, result.ViewName, "View name should have been {0}", expectedViewName); } Any ideas on how to mock the Session that is accessed in the base controller so the test in the descendant controller will run?

  • Aletrnatives to MultiView in ASP.NET

    - by remdao
Hi The website I'm building contains a large number of views which will be displayed on the same place but hidden or shown according to how the user navigates the menu. It gets quite messy in visual studios design view when you have a MultiView with 10 different views in it. I've already separated the content of each view in several user controls. But is there an alternative to MultiView?

  • Problem retrieving multiple instances of the same asp.net session variable

    - by sw1sh
I'm having problems with retrieving multiple instances of a session variable from an InProc session state. In the following code I persist a simple BusinessObject into a session variable on the Page_Load event. On the click of a button I try to retrieve the object back into 2 new declared instances of the same BusinessObject. All works great until I change one of the properties in the first instance, it changes the second instance as well. Is this normal behaviour? I would have thought as these were new instances they wouldn’t demonstrate static behaviour? Any ideas where I'm going wrong? Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load If Not Page.IsPostBack Then ' create a new instance of a business object and set a containg variable Dim BO As New BusinessObject BO.SomeVariable = "test" ' persist to inproc session Session("BO") = BO End If End Sub Protected Sub btnRetrieveSessionVariable_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles btnRetrieveSessionVariable.Click ' retrieve the session variable to a new instance of BusinessObject Dim BO1 As New BusinessObject If Not Session("BO") Is Nothing Then BO1 = Session("BO") ' retrieve the session variable to a new instance of BusinessObject Dim BO2 As New BusinessObject If Not Session("BO") Is Nothing Then BO2 = Session("BO") ' change the property value on the first instance BO1.SomeVariable = "test2" ' why has this changed on both instances? Dim strBO1Property As String = BO1.SomeVariable Dim strBO2Property As String = BO2.SomeVariable End Sub ' simple BusinessObject class Public Class BusinessObject Private _SomeVariable As String Public Property SomeVariable() As String Get Return _SomeVariable End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _SomeVariable = value End Set End Property End Class

  • asp.net mvc form add comment

  • MVC and repository pattern data effeciency

    - by Shawn Mclean
My project is structured as follows: DAL public IQueryable<Post> GetPosts() { var posts = from p in context.Post select p; return posts; } Service public IList<Post> GetPosts() { var posts = repository.GetPosts().ToList(); return posts; } //Returns a list of the latest feeds, restricted by the count. public IList<PostFeed> GetPostFeeds(int latestCount) { List<Post> post - GetPosts(); //CODE TO CREATE FEEDS HERE return feeds; } Lets say the GetPostFeeds(5) is supposed to return the 5 latest feeds. By going up the list, doesn't it pull down every single post from the database from GetPosts(), just to extract 5 from it? If each post is say 5kb from the database, and there is 1 million records. Wont that be 5GB of ram being used per call to GetPostFeeds()? Is this the way it happens? Should I go back to my DAL and write queries that return only what I need?

  • URLRewriter.net fails relative paths when using more than one substring in URL

    - by Andreas Strandfelt
Hi. I have installed the URLRewriter on my server, and it works fine, but I have a rather big problem. Relative links in hyperlinks, CSS-links, images etc. doesn't work when I have URLs with more than one substring. E.g. (sorry, no http:// in front, as I do not have enough reputation): dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft leads to the path dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Workers.aspx and works just fine. But dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft/Midtjylland leads to dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Workers.aspx?Region=Midtjylland using this line in the Web.config: <rewrite url="~/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft/(.+)" to="~/Workers.aspx?Region=$1"/> It rewrites just fine, but my relative links doesn't work anymore. CSS, Images, links and so on thinks my root is now http://dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft, which of course doesn't exist. Can't this be fixed? All my links are correctly set using the ~/, like this: <asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink3" CssClass="black_text" NavigateUrl="~/Forgot-Password" runat="server">I have forgotten my password</asp:HyperLink>

  • ASP.NET Page Caching in a Web Farm

    - by Achilles
We have a small web farm(2 servers) balanced by the built in network load balancer in Windows 2003. We have a few pages that use page caching. My question is: Is it possible that that a given user could cause a page to be cached and another user see that content? Here is the page directive for the page in question: <%@ OutputCache Duration="1" NoStore="true" VaryByParam="none" %> The reason the duration is set to "1" is to ensure that the page isn't cached any longer than 1 second because of transactions that actions on the page can trigger.
