  • Click-Once deployment is leaving multiple versions (yes, more than 2)

    - by Clyde
I've got a click once application that is leaving all old versions on my disk. It's an internal corporate application that gets frequent updates, so this is a disaster for rapidly inflating our backup size. According to the docs and other SO questions, it is supposed to only leave the current and previous versions on disk. However, each time I deploy the project and upgrade a client, I get another copy of all exe/dll/data files. I'm making no changes whatsoever to the application, just pushing deploy again in Visual Studio. Any ideas? Updates: The problem seems to happen on both Windows 7 and XP. 64 bit windows and 32. I've done a diff of the folders where the version is installed and the following files are different: MyApp.exe.manifest MyApp.exe.cdf-ms MyDll1.cdf-ms MyDll2.cdf-ms No actual executable files are different, nor the MyApp.manifest, MyDll1.manifest, etc.

  • In ASP.NET, can too many CacheDependency instances affect scalability?

    - by frankadelic
I am building an ASP.NET application. Within each ASPX page, we are outputting inline snippets of HTML that are pulled from static text files. Similar to the example shown here: http://www.dotnetcurry.com/ShowArticle.aspx?ID=331 As in the article, we store the contents of the files in HttpRuntime.Cache with a CacheDependency pointing to the included file. For each cached file, the operating system needs to monitor a file for changes. Is this going to be a potential scalability problem? Does Windows 2008 have a maximum number of file change monitors?

  • Partially Modifying an XML serialized document.

    - by Stacey
    I have an XML document, several actually, that will be editable via a front-end UI. I've discovered a problem with this approach (other than the fact that it is using xml files instead of a database... but I cannot change that right now). If one user makes a change while another user is in the process of making a change, then the second one's changes will overwrite the first. I need to be able to request objects from the xml files, change them, and then submit the changes back to the xml file without re-writing the entire file. I've got my entire xml access class posted here (which was formed thanks to wonderful help from stackoverflow!) using System; using System.Linq; using System.Collections; using System.Collections.Generic; namespace Repositories { /// <summary> /// A file base repository represents a data backing that is stored in an .xml file. /// </summary> public partial class Repository<T> : IRepository { /// <summary> /// Default constructor for a file repository /// </summary> public Repository() { } /// <summary> /// Initialize a basic repository with a filename. This will have to be passed from a context to be mapped. /// </summary> /// <param name="filename"></param> public Repository(string filename) { FileName = filename; } /// <summary> /// Discovers a single item from this repository. /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="TItem">The type of item to recover.</typeparam> /// <typeparam name="TCollection">The collection the item belongs to.</typeparam> /// <param name="expression"></param> /// <returns></returns> public TItem Single<TItem, TCollection>(Predicate<TItem> expression) where TCollection : IDisposable, IEnumerable<TItem> { using (var list = List<TCollection>()) { return list.Single(i => expression(i)); } } /// <summary> /// Discovers a collection from the repository, /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="TCollection"></typeparam> /// <returns></returns> public TCollection List<TCollection>() where TCollection : IDisposable { using (var list = System.Xml.Serializer.Deserialize<TCollection>(FileName)) { return (TCollection)list; } } /// <summary> /// Discovers a single item from this repository. /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="TItem">The type of item to recover.</typeparam> /// <typeparam name="TCollection">The collection the item belongs to.</typeparam> /// <param name="expression"></param> /// <returns></returns> public List<TItem> Select<TItem, TCollection>(Predicate<TItem> expression) where TCollection : IDisposable, IEnumerable<TItem> { using (var list = List<TCollection>()) { return list.Where( i => expression(i) ).ToList<TItem>(); } } /// <summary> /// Attempts to save an entire collection. /// </summary> /// <typeparam name="TCollection"></typeparam> /// <param name="collection"></param> /// <returns></returns> public Boolean Save<TCollection>(TCollection collection) { try { // load the collection into an xml reader and try to serialize it. System.Xml.XmlDocument xDoc = new System.Xml.XmlDocument(); xDoc.LoadXml(System.Xml.Serializer.Serialize<TCollection>(collection)); // attempt to flush the file xDoc.Save(FileName); // assume success return true; } catch { return false; } } internal string FileName { get; private set; } } public interface IRepository { TItem Single<TItem, TCollection>(Predicate<TItem> expression) where TCollection : IDisposable, IEnumerable<TItem>; TCollection List<TCollection>() where TCollection : IDisposable; List<TItem> Select<TItem, TCollection>(Predicate<TItem> expression) where TCollection : IDisposable, IEnumerable<TItem>; Boolean Save<TCollection>(TCollection collection); } }

  • [C#] How to share a variable between two classes?

    - by Altefquatre
Hello, How would you share the same object between two other objects? For instance, I'd like something in that flavor: class A { private string foo_; // It could be any other class/struct too (Vector3, Matrix...) public A (string shared) { this.foo_ = shared; } public void Bar() { this.foo_ = "changed"; } } ... // inside main string str = "test"; A a = new A(str); Console.WriteLine(str); // "test" a.Bar(); Console.WriteLine(str); // I get "test" instead of "changed"... :( I read there is some ref/out stuff, but I couldn't get what I'm asking here. I could only apply some changes in the methods scope where I was using ref/out arguments... I also read we could use pointers, but is there no other way to do it? Thanks Altefquatre

  • Is there an easy way in Python to wait until certain condition is true?

    - by Checkers
I need to wait in a script until a certain number of conditions become true? I know I can roll my own eventing using condition variables and friends, but I don't want to go through all the trouble of implementing it, since some object property changes come from external thread in a wrapped C++ library (Boost.Python), so I can't just hijack __setattr__ in a class and put a condition variable there, which leaves me with either trying to create and signal a Python condition variable from C++, or wrap a native one and wait on it in Python, both of which sound fiddly, needlessly complicated and boring. Is there an easier way to do it, barring continuous polling of the condition? Ideally it would be along the lines of res = wait_until(lambda: some_predicate, timeout) if (not res): print 'timed out'

  • Intercept close Popup from Parent Page

    - by sangi
Hi all, I have a question. In an html page, I have javascript code that allows me to open and close a popup window by clicking on a link displayed in the link, so the text displayed in the link changes to the state of the popup window (open-closed). With a variable true / false I manage the opening and closing of the popup window to click on a link whose text is aligned "opened popup" / "closed popup". The next step is to make this same change in state (true / false, "opened popup" / "close popup") directly by closing the popup window. The idea is to not have to refresh the page. Is this possible? Thank you and best regards

  • Maven workspace resolution horked

    - by user237815
I'm using m2eclipse to manage maven projects. Somehow I did a bad thing, and now the system is behaving as if workspace resolution is disabled. I have several projects that depend on a main project. This project has a version of 4.0-SNAPSHOT, and all the dependent projects reference it in the dependencies section of their poms. Everything was working fine until I created an entirely new project and mistakenly copied the pom from the main project into the new project. Suddenly, all of the dependent projects got the error: "The container 'Maven Dependencies" references non existing library C:\users\myusername.m2\com\mydomain\myproject\4.0-SNAPSHOT\myproject-4.0-SNAPSHOT.jar I zapped the offending new project, but the error remains for all the dependent projects. I've made no changes (to my knowledge) in the main project or any of the dependent projects, so I'm guessing something got changed in the Eclipse environment. Does m2eclipse or Maven itself maintain settings anywhere that I can blow away?

  • checkbox selected value is lost after coming back to the pagei.e., viewstate value is lost with use

    - by M.Vijay bhasker
In the left navigation i have a series of check boxes and a grid view in the page body.Grid view results changes based on the check box selection, whenever i click on the links in grid view it goes to the second page and there is a link on the page which takes me back to the first page, but the check box selected value is maintained for the first time only and if we repeat the same process for the second time and i see that the first time selection of the check box is maintained. Here the grid view is placed in update panel and the check box in the left is called using .... AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="cphLeftNavigation". I've tried removing the above code referring the cphLeftNavigation and i see the results are coming up correctly and the last selected check box value is being maintained correctly and i want the same functionality to be implemented with/without update panel. Can anyone let me know, what exactly should i change to implement the above mentioned functionality.

  • App Engine: how would you... snapshotting entities

    - by Andrew B.
Let's say you have two kinds, Message and Contact, related by a db.ListProperty of keys on Message. A user creates a message, adds some contacts as recipients, and emails the message. Later, the user deletes one of the contact entities that was a recipient of the message. Our application should delete the appropriate Contact entity, but we want to preserve the original recipient list for the message that was sent for the user's records. In essence, we want a snapshot of the message entity at the time it was sent. If we naively delete the contact entity, though, we lose snapshot integrity; if not, we are left with an invalid key. How would you handle this situation, either in controller logic or model changes? class User(db.Model): email = db.EmailProperty(required=True) class Contact(db.Model): email = db.EmailProperty(required=True) user = db.ReferenceProperty(User, collection_name='contacts') class Message(db.Model): recipients = db.ListProperty(db.Key) # contacts sender = db.ReferenceProperty(User, collection_name='messages') body = db.TextProperty() is_emailed = db.BooleanProperty(default=False)

  • Can I store and join based on external attributes in Lucene/Solr

    - by Kibbee
Is there a way to store information about documents that are stored in Lucene such that I don't have to update the entire document to update certain attributes about the documents? For instance, let's say I had a bunch of documents, and that I wanted to update a permissions list of who was allowed to see the documents on a daily, or more frequent, basis. Would it be possible to update all the permissions each day, without updating all the documents. I could do it by keeping a exactly which permissions were added and removed, but I would rather just be able to take the end list of permissions, and use that, rather than have to keep track of all the permission changes and post those entire documents to Lucene.

  • Forcing a method to be non-transactional in JPA (Eclipselink)

    - by rhinds
Hi, I am developing an application using Eclipselink and as part of the app I need to be able to manipulate some of the objects which involves changing data without it being persisted to the database (i merging/changing objects for some batch generation processes). I am reluctant to change the data in the Entity objects, as there is a risk that even though i have not marked the methods as @Transactional, this method could in the future be inadvertantly called from within a transactional method and these changes could be persisted. So my question is, is there anyway to get around this? Such as force a method to always be non-transactional regardless; terminate any transactionality as soon as the method is started; etc. I know there is a .detach() method that can detach the objects from the Entity Manager, however, there are many objects and this seems like a potentially error prone fail-safe on my code.

  • javascript: getting two sibling windows communicate

    - by romuwild
i have 2 windows: window A and window B. -window A and window B have same domain -window A and window B doesn't have any parent window. first question: -is it possible for window A to get a reference of window B? second question: -what is the most elegant way to make window A notify something to window B? (modern browser supporting HTML5 restriction is not a problem) 2 ways i am aware of doing this: -messaging by server: where window B regulary asks the server if window A has notified something -messaging by local data (HTML5): when window A wants to notify something it changes the local data, window B regulary checks the local data for any change. but the 2 ways are not so elegant. for example it would be nice to get an reference of window B and using window.postMessage() (HTML5) ultimate goal is to make something like facebook where if you open 4 facebook tabs, and chat in one tab, the chat is actualized on every facebook tab, which is neat! thanks folks!

  • Focus stealing is evil.

    - by lunixbochs
A quick Google search for solutions to Focus Stealing in Windows reveals two main result categories: People suggesting incomplete solutions involving the ForegroundLockTimeout registry entry (or TweakUI, which I believe simply changes the aforementioned registry entry), which isn't very effective. Incessant hordes of Windows users complaining about it. It's particularly annoying in two common scenarios: Something triggers a program to popup a dialog window in the background while a fullscreen app is focused, causing the fullscreen app to minimize. A window steals focus while you are typing, stealing all of your keystrokes. If you happen to press Space, Enter, or trigger a keyboard shortcut (like Y for Yes), it can cause completely undesirable outcomes. What creative solutions can be applied to fix this problem for either or both of these scenarios?

  • FileSystemWatcher surpassing Active Directory restrictions

    - by DevexPP
While experimenting with FileSystemWatcher, I've found out that it somehow surpasses Active Directory's restrictions to files and folders, and will raise change events with information about what has changed in files and folders that you don't even have access to. I have two questions about that: 1) Why does this happen ? 2) Is this a problem in the AD configuration ? how do I fix it ? 3) Is there any way to gather these files, or even create a FileSystemInfo of them to get more info about the files (not only the changes made on them) ? As far as I've tried, only the FileSystemWatcher immune to the restrictions, I can't run any other thing over it, here's a list of what I've tried: File.Exists Directory.Exists FileInfo instance on found files DirectoryInfo instance on found files File.Copy File.Delete

  • XSLT Similar functionality to SQL "WHERE LIKE"

    - by Fishcake
I have the following XML <Answer> <Label>FCVCMileage</Label> <Value>3258</Value> <Iteration>0</Iteration> <DataType>NUMBER</DataType> </Answer> And need to get the Value underneath the Mileage label. However the 4 letter prefix to Mileage could be any 1 of 8 different prefixes. I know I could find the value by testing for every combination using xsl:if or xsl:choose but is there a more elegant way that would work similar to the following SQL and also wouldn't need changes to code being made if other prefixes were added. WHERE label LIKE '%Mileage' NB. There will only ever be 1 label element containing the word Mileage Cheers!

  • Any reason why I shouldn't use couchdb for message passing or realtime activity streams?

    - by Up
While using ampq or xmpp (rabbitmq or ejabbered that could have couchdb as backends) seems like a good fit to deliver real time updates about friend state in a social gaming platform where updates are small but frequent, I can't help but think why wouldn't couchdb be a good platform to deliver such updates? The main advantage I could think of is its ability to filter updates based on friends and availability of changes api, which makes developing such an application and managing it (including replication) quite easy compared to ampq or xmpp where you have to think about how to manage the pubsub nodes and who is subscribed to them at any point in time. However, I can't help but think this is too good to be true, I can't find information on what couchdb's shortcomings are. Somehow, it feels like using MySQL for message passing which is why I am hesitant to using it. Anyone have any experience in using couchdb for such applications? would you recommend another platform to use?

  • nightmare with relative imports, how does pep 366 work?

    - by pygabriel
I have a "canonical file structure" like that (I'm giving sensible names to ease the reading): mainpack/ __main__.py __init__.py - helpers/ __init__.py path.py - network/ __init__.py clientlib.py server.py - gui/ __init__.py mainwindow.py controllers.py In this structure, for example modules contained in each package may want to access the helpers utilities through relative imports in something like: # network/clientlib.py from ..helpers.path import create_dir The program is runned "as a script" using the __main__.py file in this way: python mainpack/ Trying to follow the PEP 366 I've put in __main__.py these lines: ___package___ = "mainpack" from .network.clientlib import helloclient But when running: $ python mainpack Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python2.6/runpy.py", line 122, in _run_module_as_main "__main__", fname, loader, pkg_name) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/runpy.py", line 34, in _run_code exec code in run_globals File "path/mainpack/__main__.py", line 2, in <module> from .network.clientlib import helloclient SystemError: Parent module 'mainpack' not loaded, cannot perform relative import What's wrong? What is the correct way to handle and effectively use relative imports? I've tried also to add the current directory to the PYTHONPATH, nothing changes.

  • "Project description file" error in git?

    - by Paul Wicks
I've a small project that I want to share with a few others on a machine that we all have access to. I created a bare copy of the local repo with git clone --bare --no-hardlinks path/to/.git/ repoToShare.git I then moved repoToShare.git to the server. I can check it out with the following: git clone ssh://user@address/opt/gitroot/repoToShare.git/ test I can then see everything in the local repo and make commits against that. When I try to push changes back to the remote server I get the following error. *** Project description file hasn't been set error: hooks/update exited with error code 1 error: hook declined to update refs/heads/master Any ideas?

  • Paths when both including and requesting AJAX

    - by Cristian
I was wondering if there is a way of making a relative path to the main folder (where the index.php lies) from every file that needs to be included or requested by AJAX. I want to combine both AJAX and PHP include so first time the page loads with PHP, and then to be able to refresh parts of the page with AJAX, but the files are the same and lie in subfolders. I'm having problems with the path and although I can set an absolute path, then I have to change it every time the server changes. I want a relative path to where my project is, but not DOCUMENT_ROOT, because that one doesn't work with aliases. (or do you know how to make it work with aliases? ) Thanks !

  • Stop debug stalling in eclipse

    - by Lumpy
I recently installed eclipse on my Mac pro. I had previously been using eclipse on my mac book. When I run an app engine project on the mac book, it works fine. When I run it on my mac pro it brings me into the debugger where I have to click resume a few times but then everything works well again. I went looking into the debug settings and many other settings pages but everything looks the same. I don't remember making any changes to my mac book settings. The code is an exact copy on both machines. What am I missing here? What settings do I need to change.

  • Binding to object properties in C++

    - by Rich.Carpenter
I've seen in WPF where you can bind control values to properties of other controls. How is that binding accomplished in C++? For example, if I have a class called Car and a guage control called RPM, how do I tie the value of RPM to the member variable Car.RPM, so that when Car.RPM changes, it is automatically (as in without a specific update call coded by me) reflected by the RPM control? General answers or directions to pertinent resources would be fine also, as I'm just beginning to dabble in C++ and haven't had much Google luck with this particular question.

  • Using Remote Web Page to Initialize iPhone App

    - by Chris_K
My iPhone app relies on a vendor's XML feed to provide data. But that feed is not locked down. The vendor could change the format of the XML at any time, although so far they've promised not to. Since I might want to tell my app to use a different URL for its data source, I'd like to set up a single "Command Central" Web page, on my own server, to direct the app to the correct data source. In other words, each time my app starts, in the background and unseen by the user, it would visit "http://www.myserver.com/iphoneapp_data_sources.xml" to retrieve the URL for retrieving data from my vendor. That way, if my vendor suddenly changes the exact URL or the XML feed that the app needs, I can update that Web page and ensure that all installations of the app are using the correct XML feed. Does anyone have any advice or examples showing this kind of approach? It seems as if this must be a common problem, but so far I haven't found a well-established design pattern that fits it.

  • How can this be done with (N)Hibernate?

    - by Vilx-
I'm creating a windows forms application with NHibernate. It's an MDI application, so there is no limit to how many forms the user can have open at the same time (probably many). For most forms I want to have an "OK" and a "Cancel" button. Both close the form, but "OK" also saves the modified data to the DB. The forms can be pretty complex, and the modifications are likely to touch a whole graph of objects, adding some, deleting some, and changing some more. It would be good if the changes could be automatically detected and persisted as needed, without the need to manually keep track of each of them. What would be a good way to do this? Extra information: I can make whatever DB schema I want. I'm using MSSQL 2008 and currently have decided for GUID primary keys (with guid.comb generator) and a TIMESTAMP column for optimistic concurrency. I tried to simply set FlushMode of a NHibernate ISession to Never, doing all modifications as needed, and then calling Flush() if the user clicked OK. But that didn't work.

  • Platform independent remote file editing

    - by Ressu
I've been investigating possibilities on editing remote files from a website without having a need to download and upload the files manually while editing. So far I've ruled out WebDAV as a possibility since it is cumbersome to use on any platform (it either requires manual setup or works unreliably). Currently I'm looking in to various Applets, but they mostly target either uploading or downloading, not file editing. What I'm currently looking for is an applet that downloads the document, launches the application that is meant to open the file and then monitors the file for changes and uploads the changed file (either automatically or by prompting the user first). I know that I'm not alone with this scenario, so i'm looking for solutions that others have thought of.

  • Ruby method Array#<< not updating the array in hash

    - by Mladen Jablanovic
    Inspired by http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2552363/how-can-i-marshal-a-hash-with-arrays I wonder what's the reason that Array#<< won't work properly in the following code: h = Hash.new{Array.new} #=> {} h[0] #=> [] h[0] << 'a' #=> ["a"] h[0] #=> [] # why?! h[0] += ['a'] #=> ["a"] h[0] #=> ["a"] # as expected Does it have to do with the fact that << changes the array in-place, while Array#+ creates a new instance?
