    Hello, This may seem an easy question, but not to me, also a search has led to nothing. Up until now the only .net programming I have done is with Delphi Prism. With Prism I can do things like: var l := new List<String>(['A','B','C']); or var l := new List<String>; l.AddRange(['A','B','C']; but can I do a similar thing in C#, or do I have to do it like: var a = new String[] {"A","B","C"}; var l = new List<String>(a); Thanks, AJ

    Is there a commonly accepted terminology for various types for common functors? For instance I found myself naturally using comparitor for comparison functors like this: struct ciLessLibC : public std::binary_function<std::string, std::string, bool> { bool operator()(const std::string &lhs, const std::string &rhs) const { return strcasecmp(lhs.c_str(), rhs.c_str()) < 0 ? 1 : 0; } }; Or using the term deltor for something like this: struct DeleteAddrInfo { void operator()(const addr_map_t::value_type &pr) const { freeaddrinfo(pr.second); } }; If using these kinds of shorthand terms is common, it there some dictionary of them all someplace?

From stuff I read all over the web I was under the impression that the whole point of use java_implements in the Ruby section was for the interface implementations to be compiled in properly. What am I doing wrong?

    I'm going to create a class to hold a long list of parameters that will be passed to a function. Let's use this shorter example: class ParamList{ public: ParamList(string& a_string); string& getString(); //returns my_string private: string& my_string; } My question is this: my_string is private, yet I'm returning the reference to it. Isn't that called something like private pointer leaking in C++? Is this not good programming practice? I want callers of getString to be able to get the reference and also modify it.     For my Google Wave robot, on the onDocumentChanged event I want to apply a filter as follows: @Capability(filter = FILTER) @Override public void onDocumentChanged(DocumentChangedEvent event) { ... } I want the filter to be generated the first time the robot is run, which I'm trying to do as follows: private static final String FILTER = generateFilter(); private static final String generateFilter(){ ... } However, it complains FILTER isn't a constant expression when used within @Capability. generateFilter() will return the same string every time it is called, I'm only using it to create the string so that when I make changes, I don't need to worry about updating the filter. Now I could be going about this all wrong, so wondered if anyone knew what I'm doing wrong, or knew a better way in which I could generate a constant expression from the function.

  • Is std::move really needed on initialization list of constructor for heavy members passed by value?

    Recently I read an example from cppreference.../vector/emplace_back: struct President { std::string name; std::string country; int year; President(std::string p_name, std::string p_country, int p_year) : name(std::move(p_name)), country(std::move(p_country)), year(p_year) { std::cout << "I am being constructed.\n"; } My question: is this std::move really needed? My point is that compiler sees that this p_name is not used in the body of constructor, so, maybe, there is some rule to use move semantics for it by default? That would be really annoying to add std::move on initialization list to every heavy member (like std::string, std::vector). Imagine hundreds of KLOC project written in C++03 - shall we add everywhere this std::move? This question: move-constructor-and-initialization-list answer says: As a golden rule, whenever you take something by rvalue reference, you need to use it inside std::move, and whenever you take something by universal reference (i.e. deduced templated type with &&), you need to use it inside std::forward But I am not sure: passing by value is rather not universal reference?

    I just started playing with Clojure, and I wrote a small script to help me understand some of the functions. It begins like this: (def *exprs-to-test* [ "(filter #(< % 3) '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" "(remove #(< % 3) '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" "(distinct '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" ]) Then it goes through *exprs-to-test*, evaluates them all, and prints the output like this: (doseq [exstr *exprs-to-test*] (do (println "===" (first (read-string exstr)) "=========================") (println "Code: " exstr) (println "Eval: " (eval (read-string exstr))) ) ) The above code is all working fine. However, (read-string exstr) is repeated so I tried to use let to eliminate the repetition like so: (doseq [exstr *exprs-to-test*] (let [ex (read-string exstr)] ( (do (println "===" (first ex) "=========================") (println "Code: " exstr) (println "Eval: " (eval ex)) ) )) ) But this works once for the first item in *exprs-to-test*, then crashes with a NullPointerException. Why is the addition of let causing the crash?

  • C++ - getline() keeps reading the same line over and over again for some reason

    I am wondering WTF my while loop which calls istream& getline ( istream& is, string& str ); keeps reading the same line again.     The following code does not compile in VS2012, it gives error C2064: term does not evaluate to a function taking 1 arguments on the line of the second for_each (line 4 below). vector<string> v1; for_each(begin(v1), end(v1), [](string s1) { vector<string> v2; for_each(begin(v2), end(v2), [](string s2) { cout << "..."; }); }); I found some related stuff like http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/560907/capturing-variables-in-nested-lambdas which shows a bug (they are doing something different) but on the other hand that shows that what I print above should be possible. What's wrong with the above code?

(Since this field is part of a struct with other fields, which I've omitted for clarity, I can't simply change the CharSet of the containing struct.) Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

How can I prevent this? I'd prefer not to have to have javaScript trim the string before submits.

    I am new to C# and trying to create my 1st app. I have 3 errors. The first two say that txtSalary and Salary do not exist. The 3rd says that it cannot convert method group 'ToString' to non-delegate type 'string'. and asks if I intend to invoke the method. Here is what I have: protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { int salary, AnnualHours, Rate; string txtAnnualHours, txtSalary, txtRate; salary = AnnualHours * Rate; txtsalary = int.Parse(Salary); txtAnnualHours = salary.ToString; MessageBox.Show(salary); } According to my book, when you enter numerics in AnnualHours and Rate textbox, when click Button1, these values are converted from string to integers, then multiplied for salary. Then numeric answer converted to string and displayed in messagebox named txtSalary. Please show me what I got wrong because according to the book, I am not missing anything.

    I have a nasty situation. I am using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express edition locally on my pc for testing, and once tested I upload database changes to a remote server.
