• broadcom 43225 wireless on acer laptop is disabled

  I have a acer aspire 5820T with a broadcom 43225 wireless card. I previously used ubuntu 10.10 and the wireless worked straight away, but when I updated to 11.04 the wireless stopped working. I have managed to get the wireless hardware to switch on for a couple of seconds before turning off (When you turn the wireless on using the manual switch the wireless light stays on for a couple of seconds and in the drop down connections menu the information under wireless networks changes from 'device not ready' to 'Disconnected' but shows no wireless networks despite there being one). So far I have tried installing an additional driver, and also disabling the additional driver and installing b43-fwcutter and firmware b43 installer. There may have been other things that I've found in searches that i've tried but unfortunately I can't remember them. Any help would be appreciated.

• Books library organizers for Ubuntu 12.04

  I would like to ask if there is any good program for ubuntu 12.04 to organize a library of books.I have to mention that I have books written on my native language (Greek) and I have books written in other languages like English,French,etc....So basically I need an application which can fetch information from databases for Greek books.For example add a Greek (ISBN) book database source and when I type the ISBN of the book in the program to find the book from that database/es.Do you know if this is possible?I have already tried Tellico and GCstar but they were unable to find books with Greek ISBN.I tried to add a Greek book source but my wasn't successful.

• HTML5 clicking objects in canvas

  I have a function in my JS that gets the user's mouse click on the canvas. Now lets say I have a random shape on my canvas (really its a PNG image which is rectangular) but i don't want to include any alpha space. My issue lies with lets say i click some where and it involves a pixel of one of the images. The first issue is how do you work out the pixel location is an object on the map (and not the grass tiles behind). Secondly if i clicked said image, if each image contains its own unique information how do you process the click to load the correct data. Note I don't use libraries I personally prefer the raw method. Relying on libraries doesn't teach me much I find.

• AMD 6870 Twin Frozr II video adapter issues

  Hardware: AMD 6870 Twin Frozr II (1GB), ASUS 990 chipset Software: Ubuntu 11.10 Built a new PC from scratch, loaded it with Ubuntu 11.10. It's displaying, but with poor resolution, unable to change, as it says no drivers are installed. Ubuntu indicates that there are 2 proprietary drivers available to download: ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX Graphics driver (Post-release update) ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX Graphics driver The first won't even finish downloading. The second downloads and installs, but when I restart the PC as requested it boots up, I see purple in the background, then the video feed just stops with a black screen. I can still hear ubuntu boot up though. It seems like I just need the latest drivers, googled around and not had much luck. I'm pretty new with Ubuntu, but have basic knowledge. Any potentially helpful information would be welcome.

• easy visualization of usage statistics (web app)

  I have some usage queries for my web app's database, the results of which I want to display graphically. Is there an easy-to-use api that exists for this purpose? I want to show things like average query-time per user (a small user-base), average query time per day, and things like that. I think it would be cool to show these on a two-axis graph. I am displaying this data on my site, so a jQuery/javascript/html solution for rendering information into graphs would be ideal. Thank you :) P.S. I wasn't sure if I should ask this on SO, but I am looking more for which product to use, not how to program with it.

• How to control fan speed and temperatures on Asus A8Js laptop?

  I have tried installing asusfan and lm-sensors but I'm unable to control my fans to cool my laptop down sufficiently. • Advice on how to understand in general and in practice IT Infrastructure

  My IT knowledge resides mainly in SW development. I have just some basic know how about networks. On the net I tried to get information and read books in order to better understand the overall IT infrastrcuture, but all the sources I found are too generic or, mainly, too detailed in just one aspect, making me lost. Could anyone suggest some books or web resources as good compromise in details? My goal would be able to understand the network issues and security threats when, for example, two remote system have to be setup and put in connection each other. Considering this scenario there are several aspects to consider: firewalls, intranet/internet interconnections, certificates for httpS, etc. The argument is quite wide, therefore I was looking for something that might help to start to understand this subject without going too deep in details (Computer Networks from A.Tanenbaum is a wonderful milestone, but way too specific for my scope). • Default save directory for gnome-screenshot?

  Are there any sort of configuration options for specifying the default save location for gnome-screenshot, or is this hard-coded into the source code? It used to be ~/Desktop, which seems to have changed to ~/Pictures (in 12.04). The only possible solution I've seen is about Setting the default name (as it includes time stamp information now instead of simply Screenshot#), but that solution doesn't really seem ideal to me. Also, this post suggested that the last save location is remembered the next time you take a screenshot, but in my experience, this doesn't seem to be the case. And in any case, following on from that, that entry in gconf-editor doesn't even seem to accurately reflect the last location, so more than likely an entry related to an older version of gnome-screenshot.

• What's the best language to use for a simple windows 7 dynamic gui desktop app [closed]

  [Note: I hope I am not breaking etiquette, but I originally posted a variant on this question here, but am re-asking here because I am making this now solely a question about programming.] I would like to program of the following simple form: The user can produce X number of resizable frames (analogous to HTML frames). Each frame serves as a simple text editor, which you can type into and save the whole configuration including resized windows and text. The user should be able alternately "freeze" and present the information, and "unfreeze" and edit frames. Thus it will be a cross between a calendar and a text editor. I don't particularly care if it is a web application or not. What languages are ideal for such a setup? I know some C and Python and Html, and am willing to learn others if need be. It seems to me this should be a relatively easy program to make, but I need a little direction before starting. EDIT: My OS is Windows 7.

• VMPlayer does not flush all outputs to serial port

  I am debugging a Linux kernel in the VMPlayer on Ubuntu 12.04 configured a serial port to a file to see the debug information. However, each time when the kernel panics, only the backtrace stack were printed out instead of all the booting messages. This does not happend on VMPlayer Fusion. • nouveu driver logs into unity-2d by default

  I have an old system with NVIDIA Corporation NV25 [GeForce4 Ti 4600]. When running Ubuntu , the nouveau driver loads fine but does not log into Unity with compiz. Instead it logs into Unity-2D. Any idea how to enable 3D/ compiz with the nouveau driver. OS: Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 The nvidia driver is no more available for this graphics card, so have to rely on nouveau. UPDATE: Bug reported on launchpad . See here. There has been no reply as yet to this bug-report - does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Further information, Also, if I use kubuntu desktop, kwin graphics works just fine. But, the users prefer Unity over KDE so I have uninstalled Kubuntu.

  I've made a poorly written, yet fully functioning website, in (shock, horror, shock) PHP. Everything works as expected, I've implemented the necessary security measures: http://php.net/manual/en/security.php and phpsec.org/projects/guide/ It's poorly written in the sense that it's a bunch of functions thrown together that do something...oddly enough I was consistent with the naming conventions. Would you release something you were not happy with, but worked? I would also like to point out that I don't collect much user information (username, email and password) is about it -- but it's not really the security part I'm worried about, it's the spaghetti code I've written.

• Why can't get past the user info screen when installing 10.10?

  I have a Dell Inspiron 1318 (07-08?) with an Intel Cored 2 Duo Processor and 3 GB of RAM. I can run Ubuntu 10.10 from the disk, but I've tried to install it three times with no success. As the files are installing, the program asks me to enter my user information. I'm fine through the time zone screen, and fine through the keyboard screen. But when it asks me to set my used name and password, the "next" button stays ghosted out no matter what I enter. Eventually, the installation gets to the point where it says it's waiting for me, but no matter what I do I can't get the "next" button to click. I'm a complete newbie, and I've been stuck at the same spot three times. If anyone has any idea what's going wrong, I'd love to hear about it.

  E-Business Suite 11.5.10 Sustaining Support Exception & 12.1 Extended Support Now to Dec. 2018 [ID 1495337.1] As part of Oracle’s continued commitment to our customers, we will be providing an exception for the first 13 months of Sustaining Support on Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10 (11i10), valid from December 1, 2013 – December 31, 2014. This exception support will be comprised of three components: (1) new fixes for Severity 1 production issues, (2) United States Form 1099 2013 year-end updates, and (3) payroll regulatory updates for the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia for fiscal years ending in 2014.  In addition, the Extended Support period for E-Business Suite Release 12.1 has been extended through December, 2018. Customers with an active Oracle Premier Support for Software contract will automatically be entitled to Extended Support deliverables for E-Business Suite 12.1. • Nvidia Driver versions?

  I've looked all over and can't find any reason as to why or how Nvidia names their drivers. for example they have a 330.xxx/340.xxx series that are current but also a 300.xxx and i've found that they aren't always release in order by number. Here's an example on there site with version and release date 331.38 - January 13 334.16 - Feb 7 331.49 - Feb 18 I'm really confused about what driver to actually go with, a few different series versions seem to work adequately and I just want to have an understanding of it and what the best option to work from would be. • Question about server usage, big community platform

  I’m working on a community platform writen in PHP, MySQL. I have some questions about the server usage maybe someone can help me out. The community is based on JQuery with many ajax requests to update content. It makes 5 - 10 AJAX(Json, GET, POST) requests every 5 seconds, the requests fetch user data like user notifications and messages by doing mySQL queries. I wonder how a server will handle this when there are for more than 5000 users online. Then it will be 50.000 requests every 5 seconds, what kind of server you need to handle this? Or maybe even more, when there are 15.000 users online, 150.000 requests every 5 seconds. My webserver have the following specs. Xeon Quad 2048MB 5000GB traffic Will it be good enough, and for how many users? Anyone can help me out or know where to find such information, like make a calculation?

• Integrating Java webapps with Adobe Professional: Resources?

  I'm interested in learning what resources there are for integrating Java and Adobe Professional, in general. If it helps, my projects already use the Spring Framework. My boss is particularly interested in being able to fill out a PDF form from within a Java webapp and have that data go directly to our database. She mentioned that .net had a lot of bridges to Adobe Professional. I would rather new projects be in Java so I am eager to find if there are any easy bridges between Java and Adobe Professional.
