  • Efficient mass string search problem.

    - by Monomer
    The Problem: A large static list of strings is provided. A pattern string comprised of data and wildcard elements (* and ?). The idea is to return all the strings that match the pattern - simple enough. Current Solution: I'm currently using a linear approach of scanning the large list and globbing each entry against the pattern. My Question: Are there any suitable data structures that I can store the large list into such that the search's complexity is less than O(n)? Perhaps something akin to a suffix-trie? I've also considered using bi- and tri-grams in a hashtable, but the logic required in evaluating a match based on a merge of the list of words returned and the pattern is a nightmare, and I'm not convinced its the correct approach.

  • What's the official Microsoft way to track counts of dynamic controls to be reconstructed upon Postback?

    - by John K
    When creating dynamic controls based on a data source of arbitrary and changing size, what is the official way to track exactly how many controls need to be rebuilt into the page's control collection after a Postback operation (i.e. on the server side during the ASP.NET page event lifecycle) specifically the point at which dynamic controls are supposed to be rebuilt? Where is the arity stored for retrieval and reconstruction usage? By "official" I mean the Microsoft way of doing it. There exist hacks like Session storage, etc but I want to know the bonafide or at least Microsoft-recommended way. I've been unable to find a documentation page stating this information. Usually code samples work with a set of dynamic controls of known numbers. It's as if doing otherwise would be tougher. Update: I'm not inquiring about user controls or static expression of declarative controls, but instead about dynamically injecting controls completely from code-behind, whether they be mine, 3rd-party or built-in ASP.NET controls.

  • How to create custom exception handler for custom controls or extension methods.

    - by Shantanu Gupta
    I am creating an extension method in C# to retrieve some value from datagridview. Here if a user gives column name that doesnot exists then i want this function to throw an exception that can be handled at the place where this function will be called. How can i achieve this. public static T Value<T>(this DataGridView dgv, int RowNo, string ColName) { if (!dgv.Columns.Contains(ColName)) throw new ArgumentException("Column Name " + ColName + " doesnot exists in DataGridView."); return (T)Convert.ChangeType(dgv.Rows[RowNo].Cells[ColName].Value, typeof(T)); }

  • How to save the content of Textbox into a textfile

    - by Owais Wani
    I have a textbox which has some content. I also have a button (SAVE) which shud open the FileSaveDialog and allow the content to be saved in a .txt file. XAML: <TextBox Height="93" IsReadOnly="True" Text="{Binding Path=ReadMessage, Mode=TwoWay}" Name="MessageRead" /> <Button Content="Save" Command="{Binding Path=SaveFileCommand}" Name="I2CSaveBtn" /> ViewModel: private string _readMessage = string.Empty; public string ReadMessage { get { return _readMessage; } set { _readMessage = value; NotifyPropertyChanged("ReadMessage"); } } public static RelayCommand SaveFileCommand { get; set; } private void RegisterCommands() { SaveFileCommand = new RelayCommand(param => this.ExecuteSaveFileDialog()); } private void ExecuteSaveFileDialog() { //What To Do HERE??? } What I basically need is to read the content of textbox, open a file save dialog and store it in a text file to be saved in my system.

  • NSWindowController and isWindowLoaded

    - by Jim
    Hi, I have an NSWindowController and I initialize it like this; + (MyWindowController *) sharedController { static MyWindowController *singleton = nil; if (!singleton) singleton = [[self alloc] initWithWindowNibName: @"myWindow"]; return singleton; } and I show windows like this; [[MyWindowController sharedController] showWindow: nil]; Now the problem is that I need information from some controls on that window. But I do not want to load the window if it's not yet loaded because then I can just go with the defaults. Should I use @property to access the singleton? or what is recommended here? (If @property, then please give me the readonly, nonatomic attributes too.)

  • Why my custom CStatic derived control does not receive WM_SIZE message?

    - by Michael P
    Hello everyone! I'm currently developing a custom control that derives from CStatic MFC class (Smart Device C++ project). I have created the control class using VC++ MFC class wizard, selecting CStatic class as its base class. I have used Class View to add OnSize event handler for my control class (I have selected WM_SIZE message from messages list), and new OnSize method has been created by Visual Studio along with ON_WM_SIZE() statement between BEGIN_MESSAGE_MAP(...) and END_MESSAGE_MAP(). The problem is that my control does not receive WM_SIZE thus OnSize method is never called - I used MoveWindow to change size of my control - its size changes as I have seen on dialog window but WM_SIZE message is never being sent. When I send WM_SIZE through SendMessage or PostMessage function - the control OnSize method is called normally. What do I wrong? I've read MSDN docs about CStatic control and there is no information that WM_SIZE message is never sent to a static control window. Sorry for my bad English.

  • dynamic behavior of factory class

    - by manu1001
    I have a factory class that serves out a bunch of properties. Now, the properties might come either from a database or from a properties file. This is what I've come up with. public class Factory { private static final INSTANCE = new Factory(source); private Factory(DbSource source) { // read from db, save properties } private Factory(FileSource source) { // read from file, save properties } // getInstance() and getProperties() here } What's a clean way of switching between these behaviors based on the environment. I want to avoid having to recompile the class each time.

  • GCC destructor behaviour

    - by joveha
    I've noticed a difference in behaviour for gcc's destructor when compiled under linux and crosscompiled with mingw. On linux the destructor will not get called unless the program terminates normally by itself (returns from main). I guess that kind of makes sense if you take signal handlers into account. On Win32 however, the destructor is called if the program is terminated by say a CTRL-C, but not when killed from the Task Manager. Why is this? And what would you suggest to make the destructor get called no matter how the process terminates - on Win32 in particular? Example code: #include <stdio.h> int main(int argc, char **argv) { printf("main\n"); while(1) {} return 0; } __attribute__((destructor)) static void mydestructor(void) { printf("destructor\n"); }

  • database vs flat file, which is a faster structure for "regex" matching with many simultaneous reque

    - by Jamex
    Hi, which structure returns faster result and/or less taxing on the host server, flat file or database (mysql)? Assume many users (100 users) are simultaneously query the file/db. Searches involve pattern matching against a static file/db. File has 50,000 unique lines (same data type). There could be many matches. There is no writing to the file/db, just read. Is it possible to have a duplicate the file/db and write a logic switch to use the backup file/db if the main file is in use? Which language is best for the type of structure? Perl for flat and PHP for db? Addition info: If I want to find all the cities have the pattern "cis" in their names. Which is better/faster, using regex or string functions? Please recommend a strategy TIA

  • Are there any nasty side affects if i lock the HttpContext.Current.Cache.Insert method

    - by Ekk
    Apart from blocking other threads reading from the cache what other problems should I be thinking about when locking the cache insert method for a public facing website. The actual data retrieval and insert into the cache should take no more than 1 second, which we can live with. More importantly i don't want multiple thread potentially all hitting the Insert method at the same time. The sample code looks something like: public static readonly object _syncRoot = new object(); if (HttpContext.Current.Cache["key"] == null) { lock (_syncRoot) { HttpContext.Current.Cache.Insert("key", "DATA", null, DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(5), Cache.NoSlidingExpiration, CacheItemPriority.Normal, null); } } Response.Write(HttpContext.Current.Cache["key"]);

  • Activator.CreateInstance(string) and Activator.CreateInstance<T>() difference

    - by Juan Manuel Formoso
    No, this is not a question about generics. I have a Factory pattern with several classes with internal constructors (I don't want them being instantiated if not through the factory). My problem is that CreateInstance fails with a "No parameterless constructor defined for this object" error unless I pass "true" on the non-public parameter. Example // Fails Activator.CreateInstance(type); // Works Activator.CreateInstance(type, true); I wanted to make the factory generic to make it a little simpler, like this: public class GenericFactory<T> where T : MyAbstractType { public static T GetInstance() { return Activator.CreateInstance<T>(); } } However, I was unable to find how to pass that "true" parameter for it to accept non-public constructors (internal). Did I miss something or it isn't possible?

  • Grails: Property Null error

    - by richardhell
    I've a domain called Modulo with some properties and a Controller with a method that create a object from model and save it, when execute save the shell show this error: La propiedad [{0}] de la clase [{1}] no puede ser nulo But if i set the constraint nullable to true, the error show again. I think that i should not set this cosntraint. The model is linked to a mysql table with all properties except id allow null. I think I am not doing something wrong here. Any advice?? Domain: Modulo class Modulo { String nombre String icon String url //static constraint = { // url(nullable:true) //} } Controller: Example class ExampleController { def index = { def modulo = new Modulo( nombre:'xxx', icon:'xxx' ) if (modulo.save()){ println 'ok' }else{ modulo.errors.allErrors.each { println it.defaultMessage} } } } Thanks. • Is it faster to do the pages first and CSS second, or should I do them at the same time?

    - by Fred Haslam
    I have been tasked with building a new web project from scratch, with the exception of reusing CSS files (the look and feel) from an existing project. In the past I have always completed development of the functionality and the web-ui before considering the appearance. This is mostly due to CSS development overlapping with the tail end of the project. I now have the opportunity to integrate a static set of CSS as I build the application. I have no experience with this circumstance. Would it be faster to develop the project and web-pages first, then integrate the CSS; or would it be faster to integrate the CSS as part of page development?

  • How to marshal the type of "Cstring" in .NET Compact Framework(C#)?

    - by SmartJJ
    How to marshal the type of "Cstring" in .NET Compact Framework(C#)? DLLname:Test_Cstring.dll(OS is WinCE 5.0),source code: extern "C" __declspec(dllexport) int GetStringLen(CString str) { return str.GetLength(); } I marshal that in .NET Compact Framework(C#),for example: [DllImport("Test_Cstring.dll", EntryPoint = "GetStringLen", SetLastError = true)] public extern static int GetStringLen(string s); private void Test_Cstring() { int len=-1; len=GetStringLen("abcd"); MessageBox.Show("Length:"+len.ToString()); //result is -1,so PInvoke is unsuccessful! } The Method of "GetStringLen" in .NET CF is unsuccessful! How to marshal this type of "Cstring"? Any information about it would be very appreciated!

GetStringByTypeCode(enumX) methods.

  • LINQ DefaultIfEmpty(), generating inferred argument error

    - by Refracted Paladin
    I am trying to get the below linq query to return -1 if there isn't any current value. I was looking at this article on MSDN, here, and it seemed that DefaultIfEmpty() was what I wanted. Unfortunately, I am getting a The type arguments cannot be inferred from the usage. Try specifying the type arguments explicitly. error. I guess I am not sure what that means or what it is telling me to do. Can someone explain, please. public static int CheckForDRIID(int personID) { using (var context = ConnectDataContext.Create()) { var masterIndex = (from applicationAssociation in context.tblApplicationAssociations where applicationAssociation.ApplicationID == 1 && applicationAssociation.PersonID == personID select applicationAssociation.PersonApplicationID).DefaultIfEmpty(-1).Single(); return Convert.ToInt32(masterIndex); } }

  • CSS - Could use some pointers on correct positioning

    - by Kenny Bones
    Hi, I'm in need for some pointers on positioning. I've got this square which should be centered on the page. And with a logo and a logo font image kinda wrapped around the square. Now, I want this as dynamic as possible, because I use both the square and images elsewhere as well. So I can't really use stiff static positioning. This is the site: www.matkalenderen.no How should I do this? I want to logo to appear on the left side of the square. And the font to appear above the square. And the square itself should be centered. You probably get the picture :) Right now I've got a wrapper around everything, which is also centered.

  • C#/.NET: Separation of multipage tiff with compression "CCITT T.6" very slow

    - by Alex B
    I need to separate multiframe tiff files, and use the following method: public static Image[] GetFrames(Image sourceImage) { Guid objGuid = sourceImage.FrameDimensionsList[0]; FrameDimension objDimension = new FrameDimension(objGuid); int frameCount = sourceImage.GetFrameCount(objDimension); Image[] images = new Image[frameCount]; for (int i = 0; i < frameCount; i++) { MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); sourceImage.SelectActiveFrame(objDimension, i); sourceImage.Save(ms, ImageFormat.Tiff); images[i] = Image.FromStream(ms); } return images; } It works fine, butt if the source was encoded using the CCITT T.6 compression, separating a 20-frame-file takes up to 15 seconds on my 2,5ghz CPU. Saving the images afterwards to a single file using standard compression (LZW), the separation time is under 1 second. Is there a way to speed up the process?

  • Will the URL /nosuchpage get routed via my ASP.NET MVC application?

    - by Gary McGill
    [I'm trying to figure out the reason why I'm having another problem, and this question is part of the puzzle.] I have an MVC 2 website that has routing set up so that URLs such as /Customer/23/Order/47 get handled by various controllers. I do not have a rule that would match, for example, /nosuchpage and in my Cassini environment a request for that URL will trigger my Application_Error code, which lets me log the error and show a friendly response. However, when I deployed this website on IIS7 using integrated mode, my Application_Error is not triggered, and IIS shows its own 404 message. No matter what I've tried, I can't get Application_Error to fire. Now I'm thinking: is the reason it doesn't fire because the request is not getting routed via my application? Either because I didn't explicitly set up a catch-all route, or because the file-extension fools it into thinking it should use the "static file handler" (whatever that is)? Should I expect my Application_Error to be invoked?

  • How do I implement a fibonacci sequence in java using try/catch logic?

    - by Lars Flyger
    I know how to do it using simple recursion, but in order to complete this particular assignment I need to be able to accumulate on the stack and throw an exception that holds the answer in it. So far I have: public static int fibo(int index) { int sum = 0; try { fibo_aux(index, 1, 1); } catch (IntegerException me) { sum = me.getIntValue(); } return sum; } fibo_aux is supposed to throw an IntegerException (which holds the value of the answer that is retireved via getIntValue) and accumulates the answer on the stack, but so far I can't figure it out. Can anyone help?
