  • iptables syn flood countermeasure

    I'm trying to adjust my iptables firewall to increase the security of my server, and I found something a bit problematic here : I have to set INPUT policy to ACCEPT and, in addition, to have a rule saying iptables -I INPUT -i eth0 -j ACCEPT. The only solution I found until now was to set $IPT -P INPUT ACCEPT and $IPT -I INPUT -i eth0 -j ACCEPT, but this configuration does not protect me of any attack, which is a great shame for a firewall. I suspect that the error comes from my script and not from iptables, but I don't understand what's wrong with my script. Could some do-gooder explain me my error, please? The result proved unexpected : while the server was unavailable to SSH connections, even already established, I ping-flooded it from another server, and the ping rate was restricted to 10 requests per second. During this test, I also tried to open new SSH connections, which remained unanswered until the script flushed rules. iptables, but SSH rules were not. This does not make any sense... Does somebody understand where my error comes from? EDIT #3 : After some more tests, I found out that commenting the SYN flood countermeasure removes the problem. I continue researches in this way but, meanwhile, if somebody sees my anti SYN flood rule error...

    I have an identity mapping like so: Id(x => x.GuidId).Column("GuidId") .GeneratedBy.GuidComb().UnsavedValue(Guid.Empty); When I retrieve an object from the database, the GuidId property of my object is Guid.Empty, not the actual Guid (the property in the class is of type System.Guid). However, all of the other properties in the object are populated just fine. The database field's data type (SQL Server 2005) is uniqueidentifier, and marked as RowGuid. The application that is connecting to the database is a VB.NET Web Site project (not a "Web Application" or "MVC Web Application" - just a regular "Web Site" project). I open the NHibernate session through a custom HttpModule.     Assuming the urls are saved to a database where they each have id and the url saved. For example a url www.example.com (let's say with id 1000) would possibly be shortened to www.url.com/c1hd5 etc. Is the url www.example.com shortened to c1hd5 with base64 or similar or are the ids shortened? The 566 id could be shortened like this: 1 = 1, 2 = 2, ... 9 = 9, 10 = a. The 1000 id would be fE if we used every possible letter from a-Z and - _. Is it good idea to use ids from database to shorten urls?

  • Get User SID From Logon ID (Windows XP and Up)

    I have a Windows service that needs to access registry hives under HKEY_USERS when users log on, either locally or via Terminal Server. I'm using a WMI query on win32_logonsession to receive events when users log on, and one of the properties I get from that query is a LogonId. To figure out which registry hive I need to access, now, I need the users's SID, which is used as a registry key name beneath HKEY_USERS. In most cases, I can get this by doing a RelatedObjectQuery like so (in C#): RelatedObjectQuery relatedQuery = new RelatedObjectQuery( "associators of {Win32_LogonSession.LogonId='" + logonID + "'} WHERE AssocClass=Win32_LoggedOnUser Role=Dependent" ); where "logonID" is the logon session ID from the session query. Running the RelatedObjectQuery will generally give me a SID property that contains exactly what I need. There are two issues I have with this. First and most importantly, the RelatedObjectQuery will not return any results for a domain user that logs in with cached credentials, disconnected from the domain. Second, I'm not pleased with the performance of this RelatedObjectQuery --- it can take up to several seconds to execute. Here's a quick and dirty command line program I threw together to experiment with the queries. If the user has clicked on a marker so that it is showing an open info window, currently when the boundaries are redrawn the info window is closed, because the marker is added again from scratch. How can I prevent this? It is not ideal, because often the boundaries are redrawn when the user clicks on a marker and the map moves to display the info window - so the info window appears and then disappears again :) I guess there are a couple of possible ways: remember which marker has an open info window, and open it again when the markers are redrawn don't actually re-add the marker with an open info window, just leave it there However, both require the marker with an open window to have some kind of ID number, and I don't know that this is actually the case in the Google Maps API.     Hi, I'm trying to write an app that associates a particular USB string descriptor (of a USB mass storage device) with its volume or bsd name. So the code goes through all the connected USB devices, gets the string descriptors and extracts information from one of them. I would like to get the volume name of those USB devices. I can't find the right API to do that. I have tried to do that: DASessionRef session = DASessionCreate(kCFAllocatorDefault); DADiskRef disk_ref = DADiskCreateFromIOMedia(kCFAllocatorDefault, session, usb_device_ref); const char* name = DADiskGetBSDName(disk_ref); But the DADiskCreateFromIOMedia function returned nil, I assume the usb_device_ref that I passed was not compatible with the io_service_t that the function is expecting. So how can I get the volume name of a USB device? Could I use the location id to do that? ( both got the same structure) An object Reporting containing for one logRequest, a list of logReport with a date. I tryed to set an EmbededId, that would be an attribute of the logRequest. And that's the problem i got. I don't arrive to mannage embedded id.     hello, i'm trying to build a mini reply system, based on the user's posts on a mini blog. Every post has a link named reply. if one presses reply, the reply form appears, and one edits the reply, and submits the form.The problem is that i don't know how to take the id of the post i want to reply to. In the view, if i use as a parameter one number (as an id of the blog post),it inserts the reply to the database. But how can i do it by not hardcoding?   • IDs necessary in update script not being stored (or even seen!?) (PHP MySQL)

    Hi guys, I really need help with this one...have spent 3 hours trying to figure it out... Basically, I have 3 tables necessary for this function to work (the query and PHP)... Authors, Books and Users. An author can have many books, and a user can have many books - that's it. When the admin user selects to update a book, they are presented with a form, displaying the current data within the fields, very straight forward... However there is one tricky part, the admin user can change the author for a book (incase they make a mistake) and also change the user for which the book is associated with. When I select to update the single book information I am not getting any values what so ever for author_id or user_id. Meaning that when the user updates the book info, the associations with the user and author is being scrapped altogether (when before there was an association)... I cannot see why this is happening because I can clearly see the IDs for the users and authors for my option values (this is because they are in select dropdowns). Here is what my sql to retrieve the user ID is: SELECT user_id, name FROM users and then i have my select options which brings up all the users in the system: <label>This book belongs to:</label> <select name="name" id="name"> <option value="<?php echo $row['user_id']?>" SELECTED><?php echo $row['name']?> - Current</option> <?php while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { ?> <option value="<?php echo $row['user_id']; if (isset($_POST['user_id']));?>"><?php echo $row['name']?></option> <?php } ?> In the presented HTML form, I can select the users (by name) and within the source code I can see the IDs (for the value) matching against the names of the users. The products table id is auto-incrementing, and here's a brief description on what I would like to do: $prod = new Products(); $prod->type = '0'; $categ = new CategoriesToProducts(); $categ->cat = '111'; $categ->product = $prod->id; $conn = Doctrine_Manager::connection(); $conn->flush(); How can I do this while using flush? Using a regular save is an alternative, but there will be multiple transactions while doing such. I have tried to find a Mysql_insert_id version for doctrine, but without any luck. Thanks!

The program is HWID (Hard Ware ID) locked, and the only reason I use the program to access the webpage instead of direct access via a webbrowser, is so that I can use HWID authentication. However, I've just been told I can code a script to get computer information, such as hardware ID etc. Is this actually possible completely server-side? If so, can I do it with PHP? If not, what language would this be, and what functions would I have to look into for this?

  • At most how many customized P3 attributes could be added into Agile?

    I have one customer/Oracle Partner Consultant asking me such question: how many customized attributes can be allowed to add to Agile's subclass Page Three? I never did research against this because Agile User Guide never says this and theoretically Agile supports unlimited amount of customized attributes, unless the browser itself cannot handle them in allocated memory. However my customers says when to add almost 1000 attributes, the browser (Web Client) will not show any Page Three attributes, including all the out-of-box attributes. Let's see why. Analysis It is horrible to add 1000 attributes manually. Let's do it by a batch SQL like below to add them to Item's subclass Page Three tab. Do not execute below SQL because it will not take effect due to your different node id. Performance Below two screenshot are jvm heap usage from before-SQL and after-SQL. We can see there is no big memory gap between two cases. So definitely there is no performance impact to Agile Application Server unless you have more than 1000 attributes for EACH of your dozens of  subclasses. And for client, 1000 attributes should not impact the browser's performance because in HTML we only use dt and dd for each attribute's pair: label and value. It is quite lightweight.

    I have a strange effect on my site when it is under heavy load. I randomly get the properties of other users settings. I have my own implementation of the profile system so I guess I can not blame the profile system itself. I just need a point to start debugging from. I guess there is a cookie-value that maps to an Profile entry somewhere. Is there any chance to see how this mapping works?
