Let me know which one of the following is your favorite article from memory lane. 2007 Convert Text to Numbers (Integer) – CAST and CONVERT If table column is VARCHAR and has all the numeric values in it, it can be retrieved as Integer using CAST or CONVERT function. List All Stored Procedure Modified in Last N Days If SQL Server suddenly start behaving in un-expectable behavior and if stored procedure were changed recently, following script can be used to check recently modified stored procedure. If a stored procedure was created but never modified afterwards modified date and create a date for that stored procedure are same. Count Duplicate Records – Rows Validate Field For DATE datatype using function ISDATE() We always checked DATETIME field for incorrect data type. One of the user input date as 30/2/2007. The date was sucessfully inserted in the temp table but while inserting from temp table to final table it crashed with error. We had now task to validate incorrect date value before we insert in final table. Jr. Developer asked me how can he do that? We check for incorrect data type (varchar, int, NULL) but this is incorrect date value. Regular expression works fine with them because of mm/dd/yyyy format. 2008 Find Space Used For Any Particular Table It is very simple to find out the space used by any table in the database. Two Convenient Features Inline Assignment – Inline Operations Here is the script which does both – Inline Assignment and Inline Operation DECLARE @idx INT = 0 SET @idx+=1 SELECT @idx Introduction to SPARSE Columns SPARSE column are better at managing NULL and ZERO values in SQL Server. It does not take any space in database at all. If column is created with SPARSE clause with it and it contains ZERO or NULL it will be take lesser space then regular column (without SPARSE clause). SP_CONFIGURE – Displays or Changes Global Configuration Settings If advanced settings are not enabled at configuration level SQL Server will not let user change the advanced features on server. Authorized user can turn on or turn off advance settings. 2009 Standby Servers and Types of Standby Servers Standby Server is a type of server that can be brought online in a situation when Primary Server goes offline and application needs continuous (high) availability of the server. There is always a need to set up a mechanism where data and objects from primary server are moved to secondary (standby) server.   • Installing Sql Server 2005 SP2 - Getting error on analysis services component

    At first many of the components didn't install and I followed this workaround (fixing user/SID mappings in registry.) After that everything installed successfully except for analysis services. I am getting the exact same error message as before on analysis services. (Are there other users installed by sql server I'm not aware of perhaps?) Do you guys have any ideas? All of my searches seem to just point to that workaround above that I already did.     Hello, I have a fresh Server 2008 R2 installation that cannot load a basic HTML or ASP file. I can however load .jpg and .gif images, so I know the file paths are setup correctly.   • New computer WindowsXP on Server 2003 network will not connect to file server

    When we try to connect to our file server with the new computer, it denies access. The computer is joined to the domain and I can see it on active directory. We need to connect to the file server for printing and terminal services. We have had this happen before and found that reinstalling Windows will fix the problem but I would like a speedier solution. any help would be appreciated.

  • Database hidden in SQL Server

    During an aborted TFS import (2008 into 2010), I have managed to "lose" a database in 2008. The database is not visible in Management Studio, but the SQL Server exe has a handle on the .mdf file (according to UnLocker), it says it cannot attach it because the file is in use and it cannot attach a copy of the file (created when SQL Server was stopped), as it says a DB of the same name is already attached. Given I am using the same TFS admin account I have always used and have always been able to see the database in, why is this database missing and, more importantly, how do I get it back again?

  • Double Linked List Insertion Sorting Bug

    Hello, I have implemented an insertion sort in a double link list (highest to lowest) from a file of 10,000 ints, and output to file in reverse order. To my knowledge I have implemented such a program, however I noticed in the ouput file, a single number is out of place. Every other number is in correct order. The number out of place is a repeated number, but the other repeats of this number are in correct order. Its just strange how this number is incorrectly placed. Also the unsorted number is only 6 places out of sync. I have looked through my program for days now with no idea where the problem lies, so I turn to you for help.   • SQL Server not releasing Memory

    I am using SQL Server 2005. I am running a job which processes around 100 K records. Job runs fine, it takes are 45 mins to execute, which is good. But after that job is processed, I can see instance of SQL Server 2005 still there with around 900 MB of Memory. I waited for around 2 hrs but that memory was not released. Is there any process which takes care of memory here, something like GC (unpredictable) Or am I doing something wrong???

  • SQL Server 2005 SP3 Express Backups Incredibly Slow

    I'm attempting to troubleshoot an issue with one of our customers who's using SQL Server 2005 SP3 Express to house their application data. The automatic backups that we perform when upgrading our application are timing out after 30 minutes, and I've been sitting and watching the backup take place in SSMS for about 20 minutes now and it's only gotten to 30%. The database is only slightly over 1GB, so I'm baffled as to what could be causing this sort of horrible performance. The machine is a 1.87GHz Xeon with 3GB of RAM running Windows Server 2003 R2. While that's hardly a powerful box, this seems ridiculous. Does anyone have any idea why these backups could be taking so long and, more importantly, how I can do something about it?

  • Can storage-spaces drives be moved to a replacement server when there is a failure

    I have tried to search here and Google, but cannot find a case explaining this. Storage spaces is similar to software raid. If the server fails due to motherboard or some other issue, can the drives that comprise that storage spaces config be moved to another win2k12 server without restoring from backup? This can be done in linux software raid. If so, does the storage space config have to be re-created prior to the move, or do the drives hold the config so they are essentially plug and play? Thanks.

    Hi everyone, I've followed the Microsoft article to install FPSE 2002 on my Windows 2003 server: To install and enable FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions 1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. 3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components. 4. In the Windows Components Wizard, double-click Application Server, double-click Internet Information Services, and then select the FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions check box. 5. Click OK twice, click Next, and then click Finish. But on step 4 "FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions" does not show up in the list in the IIS details window. How do I get FPSE 2002 installed on my server? From what I can understand it's supposed to be there and I just have to enable it. But that's not an option for me. Thanks.

  • Terminal Server 2008 - Slow File open dialog in Office 2003

    I have yet another small issue that annoys me everyday in our Terminal Server environment. It seems when logging into Terminal Server users report the initial File | Open or File | Save As from within an application such as Word, Excel (2003 edition) is very slow to display the actual dialog box. The dialog appears quickly but it is whited out (sometimes displays not responding in title bar) and unresponsive, it then sits like this for about 20-30 secs before popping into life and displaying all the folders etc. The second time you go to save or open a file it loads almost instantly. Any suggestions or similar problems out there?

I'm under the impression that these licences will entitle us to have 10 concurrent connections to Remote Desktop. At the moment we are only allowed two. Can we have a RD connection per CAL? If so - how do we configure this? Thanks!

  • Mail Permissions on a File Server Resource Manager Server

    In 2008 server the File resource manager can be set up to alert users when they go over their quota etc. This is all configured however the email notifications are not working. They have been configured but the event log shows that the user does not have permission to send to the exchange server. There isnt an option to chosse who to send the email from. Is there a way to get this to work? Thanks
